00:00Mr. President, welcome to the Egristiz family. This is Mr. Fatih Çiçek, the Mayor of Daskırı Municipality in Afyon.
00:07Welcome, Mr. President, it's an honor to have you here.
00:09Thank you very much. We also thank you for this invitation.
00:15Mr. Mayor, you are probably one of the youngest mayors in Türkiye, aren't you?
00:19Yes, we are among the youngest mayors. We are using this advantage in various areas.
00:26Hopefully, by combining the experience of our elders with the energy of youth, we will continue with a positive process.
00:36That's wonderful. May God grant you ease. This is your first term, Mr. President.
00:39Yes, this is your first term.
00:40May God grant you ease. Mr. President, I'm curious about something first. Does the meaning of "Daskırı" originate from something like a steppe?
00:49Yes, it's actually an expression that comes from the steppe.
00:53Daskırı means arid plain.
01:01This place was previously called Daskırı, and it was a horse breeding area even during the Ottoman era.
01:09That's how it used to be called Polatlı for a period.
01:16However, due to its similarity to Polatlı in Ankara, it later took the name Daskırı.
01:25It means arid plains.
01:28Mr. President, does it still exist? This horse breeding, these studies that took place in history, are they still around?
01:34Yes, actually, Daskir's carpets are famous right now.
01:39We have a registered carpet, hand-woven with natural dyes.
01:43We are currently working on it.
01:47We are planning a national park.
01:49In terms of horse breeding, we also have a plan to establish a beautiful horse farm within our national park for our young people and those of our citizens who are interested in this field, God willing.
02:05There is currently nothing actively related to horses in the district.
02:10We're trying to walk a little on the carpet.
02:13We are trying to improve the carpet.
02:14Hopefully, with your support, even better projects can emerge in that sense.
02:21Hopefully.
02:22Mr. President, the population situation can be particularly problematic in districts far from the center.
02:30If you were to assess the population decrease or increase in your district, would you see a decrease or an increase in population?
02:40What's your perspective?
02:41Now Daskır is an area where the D320 highway passes through the district.
02:50Our district's population has been increasing, especially in the last 4-5 years.
02:59Now, hopefully when the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data is released in February, we will officially see this increase again.
03:06Our population continued to increase last year as well.
03:10We have an organized industrial zone in our district.
03:14It has just been completed.
03:15We have currently allocated them to 11 companies.
03:20We currently have 5 companies laying the foundation.
03:23We currently have 6 factories outside of our organized industrial zone.
03:28These are mainly focused on textiles and clothing.
03:32We currently have around 2,000 employees in the district.
03:37In this sense, we have sufficient employment opportunities.
03:41Since we don't have an unemployment problem in Daskır, the construction sector is also progressing well, thank God.
03:47We also have residential areas.
03:49Naturally, this also leads to an increase in the district's population.
03:53We have high hopes for Daskır.
03:56Hopefully, positive progress is being made.
03:59We have some new factories we've been in contact with in our organized industrial zone.
04:03With these efforts, our goal is to increase our population, currently at 6,500 in the city center, to around 10,000 within the next 2-3 years.
04:14Including the villages, we currently have 16 villages.
04:17We have 6 neighborhoods.
04:18We have 22 settlements.
04:19Currently, our central population is 6,500, and including the villages, it's 12,000.
04:25In this sense, livestock farming and the textile sector can be considered sources of livelihood in the district.
04:32In that context, regarding our topic in the field of agriculture, we will also be requesting support from you in the area of livestock farming.
04:41In our district, we have approximately 12,000 to 13,000 head of cattle and around 20,000 head of sheep and goats.
04:52Young people are starting to turn to this field, but right now we need to take action regarding livestock facilities related to animal husbandry to pave the way for our young people in this area.
05:06Let me mention this in parentheses as well.
05:10Yes.
05:10Mr. President, regarding another photograph related to agriculture, could we also get information from you about what crops are grown in that region in terms of crop patterns?
05:21Agriculture-related fields primarily involve barley, wheat, sugar beet, and poppy, which are areas where our farmers are heavily involved.
05:32Studies on lavender and roses are also continuing in various of our villages.
05:38We even have a lavender distillation unit in one of our villages.
05:44The villagers and the region have the opportunity to extract the lavender oil directly on the spot and sell it themselves.
05:52In fact, tourists from outside the region also come and go to that area, especially during the lavender blooming season.
06:04We have 20,000 decares of lavender and 1,500 to 2,000 decares of roses.
06:11Agriculture in this region generally progresses in this manner.
06:15We heard something about an egg exchange in those regions, Mr. President.
06:18We have a neighboring district right next to us, our neighboring district, Başmakçı.
06:23In this sense, Başmakçı is also known as a place where the egg market is determined in Türkiye.
06:31Of course, the recent bird flu outbreak has reduced the number of animals in that region somewhat, but egg production and poultry farming are still at a good level there.
06:44Mr. President, I heard you make a statement about sustainability the other day.
06:51So you were saying let's continue with the present without affecting the opportunities of future generations.
06:56Could you elaborate on that a bit? It's a very important statement.
07:01This is related to the sustainable development plan, which the United Nations also emphasizes.
07:06Could you please explain this sentence a little more?
07:09Of course. Now, as Daskırı Municipality, we have very big goals for this district, which is open to development and is one of the most suitable districts for development in the region, and this is also observed from the outside.
07:27Actually, the origin of this word comes from here.
07:31Now, in districts and smaller towns, the stronger we are economically, the more valuable services and development become.
07:42Recently, we have observed that our municipalities are selling off land and using their own resources to develop certain areas.
07:56Because we clearly saw this in the period before us, we are saying the following.
08:04Daskırı is a place suitable for development. We will do our best to develop this district.
08:11However, our aim in this development process is to ensure sustainable development without touching the district's own resources.
08:19When we talk about what sustainability is, it means preserving and further increasing today's level of prosperity without touching the resources of the future.
08:29In this sense, our aim is to strengthen our municipality economically through revenue-generating projects, and to transform this place into a city with new investments and new projects.
08:43We had a conversation about this recently as well.
08:48Yes. Mr. President, thank you very much. You are the agricultural leader of Afyon. You are providing great services to Daskırı.
08:53Thank you very much. We have also noted the point you made regarding small livestock farming and youth employment.
09:01Hopefully, in the coming period, we will think together about how we can work together and share our findings with you.
09:11Thank you very much. Thank you for your contribution and participation.
09:14Thank you very much. First of all, we are grateful for the opportunity to consult with you thanks to your invitation.
09:20Of course, in this context, we would also like to host you in our district in the future, and give you a tour and introduce you to our district.
09:28We would be very happy. Thank you again for your invitation. Best regards.
09:33Thank you very much. Best regards, sir/madam. Wishing you all the best.
09:36I miss you. Thank you very much.
