06 February - National morning forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00It's going to be quite a while until we can put those raincoats away, more rain which could be quite heavy at times to come through today and more wet weather this weekend as well.
00:09A very wet picture that we're starting off this morning, still some hill snow over some parts of northern England and Scotland, that's going to become less of a thing as we go through the day.
00:17But the rainfall totals building up across parts of northern Ireland, parts of Wales and southern southwestern England, they could cause some issues, a bit more flooding in places and some travel disruption as well.
00:28That persistent rain feeding into parts of northern eastern England and continuing with that easterly wind feeding in, bringing more rain and some hill snow over some parts of Scotland.
00:39All the while, similar to yesterday really, the best of the drier, brighter weather will be across the far west, northwest of Scotland.
00:45Now temperatures on paper, they're not looking too dissimilar to yesterday.
00:49Towards the south, there may be a degree or so higher, could see highs of 12 or maybe 13 Celsius.
00:53Towards the north, they are going to be fairly similar to yesterday, so still feeling pretty raw, but the winds will be ever so slightly lighter, so not making it feel quite as bitter as it did.
01:04Now we do need to watch out for some showers developing in the southwest because these could be quite heavy, could be thundery, but there will be some drier weather in between, even a bit of late sunshine perhaps as we head towards the evening.
01:14But then through the evening itself, yes, there's a drier slot of weather across some central eastern parts of the country before more wet and windy weather feeds into the southwest as we go through the early hours of tomorrow.
01:26Further north and across parts of Northern Ireland, a bit wet at times, across much of Scotland, particularly across southern and eastern parts, there'll be rain pushing through.
01:33But as I mentioned, the chance of hill snow, that's decreasing as we go through the next 24 hours or so.
01:40Temperatures are going to be a little bit higher than through last night across the north.
01:44Any frost really confined just to the top of the Scottish mountains.
01:48Further south, similar really, pretty mild, especially for the time of year, but that's because of the blustery, wet, quite cloudy weather towards the southwest.
01:56Further east, some clearer skies.
01:58Here we could see some pockets of mist and fog developing, perhaps a few pockets elsewhere.
02:03Then Saturday actually looks like a slightly drier day for some places, particularly Northern Ireland, some parts of Northern England down the eastern side, a little bit drier than it has been recently.
02:13Still some further very wet weather across parts of the southwest, and with the ground so very wet at the moment, we could see some issues as a result.
02:20And some of that rain then will feed into parts of Northern Ireland later on as well.
02:23All the while, across Scotland, there'll be rain coming in from the east, and so across parts of Aberdeenshire, for example, it is again going to be pretty soggy, and some of that rain will spread to some western areas as well.
02:34Temperatures ranging from highs of around 5 to 8 Celsius in the north, 10 to 12, maybe 13 Celsius towards the south, but the strong blustery winds both towards the southwest and also the northeast will always make it feel a little bit colder than those temperatures may suggest.
02:49More cloudy, wet weather to come as we go into the weekend.
02:53Sunday, again, we're going to see some rain pushing through, not a great amount of sunshine, maybe a few glimmers here and there.
03:00And then really into next week, the often cloudy and at times rather wet theme does set to continue, so there could be some more issues as a result of the very wet weather.
03:10And temperatures, well, they're about average for the time of year.
03:12Remember, it's Friday, and so that means our Weather Studio Live will be live on both YouTube and Facebook at 12.15 this afternoon.
03:20Worth checking out if you've not seen it before.
03:22Bye-bye.
