21 October - National morning forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Whilst low pressure is still firmly in charge, it's not going to be as unsettled as it was yesterday for many people.
00:08That's because there's slightly less instability and so whilst we will still get some big, maybe even towering cumulus clouds at times,
00:16I'm not expecting as much CB, as much cumulonimbus and therefore less likely to see the thundery showers compared to yesterday.
00:24And actually, through this morning, there's some bright, fine weather across eastern parts of England, even parts of the Midlands, central southern England, having some sunshine for a time.
00:33And that sunshine then pushing its way eastwards through the morning.
00:36After that, though, bands of showery rain coming in from the west.
00:41As I mentioned, though, they're not expected to be as heavy or as thundery as the showers that we saw yesterday.
00:46Nonetheless, towards parts of northwest England, we could be looking at 10 to 20 millimetres of rain building up.
00:52And actually, across parts of Scotland, where we get some more persistent rain, we could see 20 to 30 millimetres, perhaps, in some places.
00:59So a fair amount of rain for some.
01:01Otherwise, a few showers to watch out for and actually the showers easing from the southwest as we go through the afternoon.
01:07There will also be a bit of sunshine in between any showery bursts, especially across parts of Northern Ireland, central southern England and Wales.
01:14It should be a bit brighter than yesterday, really, and so probably feeling a bit warmer and the winds will be a bit lighter as well.
01:20Meanwhile, across parts of Scotland, more cloud, perhaps, and temperatures down a degree or so compared to yesterday.
01:27The showers continue for a little bit longer as we go through the end of the day today.
01:31But actually, then they start to fizzle out almost entirely if you're still piling into parts of northwest Scotland, in particular, and one or two around some other northern western coastal parts, perhaps.
01:40But most places turning dry overnight and clearer skies.
01:44As a result, it is going to turn a little bit fresher, a little bit chillier.
01:48Most towns and cities holding up in high single figures, but rural spelt's getting close to freezing.
01:54There could be a touch of frost here and there and more likely to see a few pockets of mist and fog developing compared to last night.
02:01So, a bright start, a fine start for many of us tomorrow, albeit a bit of a fresh one.
02:07And then, yes, the cloud's going to build a bit as we go through the day and there will be some showers coming in from the northwest.
02:12But actually, for many, lots of fine weather through much of the day.
02:16However, later on, a weather system's going to come in from the southwest.
02:20And this is going to bring, yes, increasing amounts of cloud towards southern areas,
02:24but also some stronger winds and some heavy rain that's going to feed into southern parts later on.
02:29Before that comes in, though, temperatures really, well, they're relatively similar to today.
02:34Obviously, as the thicker cloud develops in the south, it will make it feel a little bit fresher,
02:38that little bit earlier, but further north temperatures, yeah, low teens, really, for many places.
02:43So, near normal for this stage of the year.
02:47Then, I mentioned this weather system that's towards the south.
02:49That is going to bring some heavy rain, potentially even some very strong winds across southern eastern parts as we go through Thursday.
02:57So, watch out for that because that could cause some problems.
03:00Further north, it's looking a bit drier and less unsettled.
03:04Showery rain as we go into Friday, but things turning a bit drier by the weekend.
03:09But with that as well, changing our wind direction means that we're going to see our temperatures dropping.
03:13Less noticeable by day, but by night, things could get quite chilly through this weekend.
03:18For more information about that, well, why don't you check out the deep dive,
03:21which Honour will be bringing to you later on.
03:24Bye-bye.
