00:00Welcome to your Friday afternoon update from the Met Office. Big contrasts with the weather today.
00:05Much of the south and east dry and quite warm again. Further north and west we've got some windy weather
00:10and some fairly heavy outbreaks of rain as well. The satellite picture is a little bit messy.
00:16We've seen some heavy rain earlier on Friday from this weakening, or now weakening, weather front.
00:21But there's another tangle of fronts, another waving system moving its way in,
00:26bringing wet conditions through the day across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.
00:30Some bright colours there on the radar, some heavy bursts of rain continuing to spread in.
00:34So quite a soggy and gusty afternoon for Northern Ireland and the west coast of Scotland.
00:38We'll continue with some outbreaks of rain across the north and the west of Wales
00:41and the northwest of England, particularly for Cumbria.
00:44Something a little drier in between, so some brighter spells at times in eastern Scotland.
00:49Much of England and Wales away from the northwest will be dry.
00:52Quite a bit of cloud spilling in, but we should see some breaks in the cloud
00:55across eastern parts of England, revealing a bit of sunshine here.
00:59The breeze is coming up from the south.
01:01The mild air is still in place, so we could easily again get 20, 21 degrees, maybe 22.
01:06Further north and west, obviously with the rain, not as warm.
01:09But even here, temperatures are above average.
01:11Obviously not feeling all that pleasant.
01:12With these gusty winds around Western coast and that quite heavy rain,
01:16which will be a feature through the evening rush hour
01:19as it tracks its way through central and southern Scotland,
01:21then into northern parts of England and into then north and west Wales through the evening time.
01:28Then after midnight, it sinks down towards the Midlands.
01:30We'll see some rain here, perhaps into southwest England.
01:33But that rain band is kind of weakening as it does spread in.
01:37Clearer skies will follow along with a few showers into the northwest of Scotland.
01:41Generally staying dry and fine across the southeast,
01:43but it could turn a little misty.
01:45One or two fog patches possible here again.
01:47That line of rain is a cold front, so it is introducing colder air,
01:52but we're still in the warm air across the southeast.
01:54So again, temperatures here likely to stay in the teens.
01:58Really quite mild for October.
01:59Further north in the cooler air, down to single figures,
02:02and well down to single figures in rural spots to start the weekend.
02:06We should start with some sunshine through central and eastern and southern Scotland
02:09and northern Ireland too.
02:11Maybe a little bit mist and fog here and there.
02:12That should clear away.
02:13A much cloudier day over East Anglia and the southeast.
02:16Some outbreaks of rain in the morning that may actually turn into some quite heavy showers in the afternoon.
02:22They'll be hit and miss.
02:23Not everywhere seeing them, but some downpours possible.
02:26Something to watch out for across the southwest.
02:28The odd shower here and there, but where we could really do with the rain,
02:31we're not going to see a huge amount, I don't think.
02:34For Wales, northern England,
02:36much of southern Scotland, northern Ireland's cracking day on Saturday.
02:39Very fine autumnal day with sunny spells and much lighter winds.
02:43Still a few showers coming in across the highlands at times,
02:46but even here again, some dry and bright spells.
02:49Temperatures still a touch above average.
02:51We could still get over 20 Celsius across the southeastern corner, for example.
02:56I'd say feeling pretty pleasant in the sunshine with those lighter winds.
03:00Lighter winds and clear skies means it will turn quite chilly quite quickly,
03:03I suspect, on Saturday at night, certainly compared to many a recent evening.
03:08By the odd shower, continuing over the hills and mountains of Scotland,
03:11I think most places will become dry.
03:14Some mist and fog to watch out for on Sunday morning.
03:17Across particularly East Anglia and the southeast.
03:19Could be quite dense.
03:20Could take a while to clear.
03:21But once it has, much of southern England, the Midlands, eastern England, dry, fine and sunny.
03:27A bit more cloud for Wales and northwest England.
03:28But again, most places here dry.
03:30We will see some rain getting into the far north of England.
03:33And for Scotland and Northern Ireland, well, we're back to cloud and rain for Sunday.
03:37So the weather flip-flopping quite a bit over the next few days.
03:39Again, with a brisk wind at times.
03:42Temperatures mid to high teens.
03:43But again, across the south and east.
03:45Temperatures yet again getting up into the low to 20s.
03:4923 is possible Sunday afternoon.
03:51So plenty going on with the weather.
03:53Contrasting fortunes for many through the weekend.
