06 May - National morning forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Good morning. For many, it's going to be a bit of a drier day compared to yesterday, but it's definitely
00:06not going to be totally dry everywhere.
00:09We do actually have an area of low pressure to the northwest of the UK, and that's going to bring
00:13cloud, rain and some blustery winds to parts of the far northwest later.
00:18More on that in a second. Even elsewhere, there are a few spots of rain here and there.
00:23We currently have a bit of rain across parts of Wales and southwest England, quite a grey start to the
00:27day here, a bit brighter across other parts.
00:30But there will be a bit more rain at times across parts of Northern Ireland and further outbreaks of rain
00:36for parts of Wales and southwest England, also western parts of Scotland as we go through the day.
00:40And also further east, some outbreaks of rain will push their way in.
00:43But away from those zones that I've just mentioned, there's actually going to be a lot of dry weather around
00:48and even some brightness and sunshine breaking through the cloud, albeit it's not going to be anywhere near as sunny
00:54as it was through much of last week.
00:57And we also have some colder air that's coming through, plunging down from the north.
01:01It was a chilly day in the north yesterday for the time of year, and quite markedly temperatures will be
01:06down a few degrees compared to yesterday further south as well.
01:10Highs of around 15 or 16 Celsius at best.
01:13And so, yes, those temperatures are a little bit lower than average for the time of year.
01:17Quite feeling it towards parts of the northeast.
01:21Do bear in mind across parts of the southwest as we go through the afternoon and into the evening, we
01:25could see some heavy, maybe even thundery showers developing.
01:28Elsewhere, the rain doesn't look particularly heavy if you see it.
01:31And actually overnight, we sort of end up with a bit of a west-east split or a northwest-southeast
01:36split.
01:37It's not totally dry in the southeast, there may be a few spots of rain, but the cloudiest, the wettest
01:42weather will be towards the northwest.
01:44Outbreaks of rain down the western side of the country and then further east, drier with some clear skies.
01:50And where you get those clear skies because of that cooler air across us, well, we could see a touch
01:55of frost in some prone spots.
01:57It's not that unusual for the time of year, but if you're under the cloud, all temperatures holding up at
02:02a few degrees higher here.
02:04And then through tomorrow, we're very much under the influence of that low pressure towards the northwest, particularly across Scotland.
02:10So it'll be quite cloudy at times towards the north and west.
02:12It'll be quite blustery here and there will be some rain coming through as well.
02:16More outbreaks of rain for western areas in particular.
02:19Further east, we're staying drier.
02:21There will be some breaks in the cloud.
02:23It looks quite cloudy here, but I think there will be some sunshine at times.
02:27And yes, the outbreaks of rain mainly towards the west, drier further east.
02:32Temperatures should be picking up a little bit, not everywhere, but for many, it may be a degree or so
02:37warmer than today.
02:39So starting to feel a bit warmer.
02:40There's a warming trend as we go through this week.
02:43Speaking of through this week, well, let's look at the bigger picture.
02:46And we stick with that low pressure towards the northwest of us as we go through the end of the
02:50day, Thursday and into Friday.
02:52That does gradually shift away.
02:54And then we see things quietening down a little bit for a short period of time.
02:58I say only for a little bit because there's more wetter weather towards the south of us.
03:02That's set to push its way in as we go through into the weekend.
03:06But we'll have more information about that on our 10-day trend.
03:08Alex Deacon will be bringing that to you later on.
03:11Bye-bye.
