00:00Dear Egristiz family, our guest on this program is the Mayor of Ergani Municipality in Diyarbakır, Mr. Şiar Güldüken.
00:10Mr. Güldüken, hello and welcome to our program.
00:13Hello, thank you, and have a good broadcast.
00:15Thank you very much. Ergani is a very important district of ours.
00:20After hearing from you a general picture of Ergani from a historical and cultural perspective...
00:26If you could also add information about what's available in terms of agricultural production, we would be very grateful. Please go ahead.
00:34Thank you very much, it's a very valuable invitation, we are honored to have you.
00:41On behalf of the people of Ergani, we greet you all with respect.
00:44Ergani is a city with a population of 141,000, comprising 14 centers and a total of 107 village headmen.
00:54and a settlement with 206 rural neighborhoods, including hamlets.
01:03As you know, the Çayönü settlement has a history of approximately 12,000 years.
01:08And Gülden is one of the earliest known settlements.
01:13It was also the time when settled agriculture began, when wheat was domesticated, when other crops were tamed.
01:22Ergani is one of the first settlements.
01:26Therefore, it has both a historical aspect and a religious significance.
01:33This is a place that has been the cradle of humanity, a place we call the "Makam Mountain".
01:39This is the place where the tomb of the Prophet Zulki is located.
01:47It also serves as a gateway connecting Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia.
01:54Therefore, it is a place that receives a large influx of migrants from surrounding districts.
02:02It has an area of approximately 150,000 hectares, that's its total surface area.
02:08But at the same time, about one-fourth or one-fifth of this area is used for agriculture.
02:17Irrigated farming is also practiced in an area of approximately 75-80 thousand hectares.
02:24That's all I can say for now.
02:26What kinds of crops are grown in terms of agricultural production, Mr. Gültüken?
02:32Mainly wheat and barley, but recently also lentils; both irrigation dams were built recently.
02:41Along with these, corn and, to a lesser extent, soy were also studied for a period.
02:48Then, when they don't get much of a response, they give up.
02:52Now, they are working with cucumbers and gherkins, which are used for pickling.
02:57Potatoes have been studied for the last few years.
03:01Although not on a large scale, we do have farmers who cultivate tobacco on an area of approximately one thousand hectares.
03:10Apart from that, fruit farming isn't very developed, but there has been some research on almonds recently.
03:17Of course, viticulture has a historical aspect.
03:21In Ergani, grape cultivation, especially of what we call "şire" grapes, which are used for winemaking, has been practiced since ancient times.
03:29But there aren't many now.
03:32Both in terms of the recent general drought and the mismanagement of water resources.
03:38Viticulture has started to decline somewhat in this sector.
03:42But now, thanks to our efforts and the sensitivity of our Ministry of Agriculture on this issue...
03:48He started to emphasize viticulture a bit more.
03:51And there are some yellow peppers, for example, in Ergani.
03:54Yellow bell peppers are a registered trademark, a product.
04:00These things are done mostly, but generally speaking, it's what we know about Anatolia.
04:04So, let's plant the wheat, barley, and lentils, apply fertilizer if we have it, and then pray.
04:12Whatever happens, it depends somewhat on what God has given us, but lately...
04:16As I said, our Ministry of Agriculture has some incentives in this regard, and they are very beneficial.
04:21However, with more irrigated agriculture and the irrigation dams built by our administration...
04:28a more efficient management of water has begun to emerge.
04:30Moreover, this has enabled our farmers to obtain multiple crops from the same location.
04:37In this respect, both employment was created and it was time for hazelnut harvesting and tomato harvesting.
04:45You know, or perhaps it's during the cotton harvesting season, there were times when seasonal workers would leave Ergani in large numbers.
04:52But with those dams built in the last five years, as well as other incentives from our Ministry of Agriculture...
04:59Thankfully, there is less external dependence now.
05:04This is very good for us; it creates a lot of added value that is very pleasing.
05:08We are trying to support this as well.
05:11Thank you very much, Mr. Gültüken.
05:13You really summarized it very well, you painted a general picture.
05:16This is ecological municipalism, agricultural municipalism,
05:19There are also discussions about climate change that are related to sustainable development.
05:23Could we get a few words from you on that subject as well?
05:26So, in terms of water management, we are now focusing on our parks, gardens, and median strip projects.
05:35We've largely transformed them into waterless operations.
05:39So, it's like sowing grass, planting turf.
05:42We've reduced their numbers a bit since we arrived.
05:45At the same time, our colleagues have started operating the automatic drip irrigation system.
05:51We have made good progress on this issue.
05:53Apart from that, we produce our own flowers, such as roses for the median strips or seasonal flowers.
06:02We started together with our friends.
06:04From this year onwards, it will be more like something we produce ourselves rather than buying from abroad.
06:12Apart from that, our female colleagues will start a production project on a 14-hectare area.
06:21From summer onwards.
06:23We have a public restaurant.
06:25The public restaurant obtains its dried legumes, especially peas and beans, from there.
06:31We have a project to evaluate that product there.
06:35As I said, there's also flower production, seasonal flower production, in the parks and in the middle of it all right now.
06:41We've done some research on these topics as well.
06:42Regarding recycling, specifically waste disposal, our relevant scientific field, environmental science, is conducting research on this subject.
06:54There will be project work with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Interior.
06:58And that's all I'm saying for now.
07:01Thank you very much, Mr. Güldüken, our esteemed chairman.
07:05We wish you success in your endeavors.
07:07We hope to host you at the Egristis Congresses soon, God willing.
07:12We definitely want to come, we will definitely come.
