00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05It turns cold tonight with a fairly widespread frost, even with the risk of ice.
00:11And into tomorrow, that bodes well for some brighter and drier weather.
00:15Here's your warning zone though, through into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
00:19You can see covering most of Scotland, particularly where you've seen showers through the day
00:24and they'll be wintry, particularly over the higher ground through this evening.
00:27Here's that cloud and rain which has been bothering southern counties.
00:31It is slowly clearing, but clearer skies elsewhere, allowing for that frost overnight.
00:37And if you are travelling, you may encounter some slippery surfaces.
00:41Still some showers running in on a north-westerly wind across the north and the west of Northern Ireland.
00:46North-west England seeing one or two drier skies further east.
00:50A rash of showers across Orkney as well as Shetland, the Western Isles.
00:54And notice as these showers encounter the cold air, turning to snow, particularly over the higher ground.
01:01So this front here is slow moving.
01:03So across the south coast, you may continue to see a little rain through this evening and overnight.
01:09Clearer skies though extend across the Midlands, eventually east Anglia.
01:14Whereas further north, we'll see those clearer skies mostly towards more central and eastern areas.
01:19But where you've seen those showers, temperatures falling close to freezing, if not below, expect some frost, but also some slippery surfaces.
01:27And a frost first thing further south across England and Wales, under those starry skies.
01:33Now through the morning, most of us seeing some bright weather, if not some sunny spells.
01:38However, towards the west, the cloud will thicken.
01:41Eventually, we will see some outbreaks of rain.
01:44A little rain just nudges in across southern counties through the morning into the afternoon as well.
01:50So by afternoon, you can see most of Northern Ireland will be wet with a strengthening wind.
01:55Mainland western Scotland as well, the Western Isles, those showers clearing Shetland.
01:59And elsewhere, it's a mostly dry end to Wednesday, but it will be a chilly one.
02:05Temperatures lower than Tuesday, coming in around 4 to 7 degrees Celsius.
02:10Now into Wednesday evening, this area of rain starts to blossom as it pushes northwards, as this batch of wet weather pushes ever eastwards.
02:19So we will see some wet weather as we head into the early hours of Thursday morning.
02:24Showers will follow across the north as well as the west, whereas this trailing front here continues to develop, bringing with it outbreaks of rain as we start Thursday.
02:32The winds then picking up some strength and the Met Office has issued a rain warning for southern counties of England and Wales.
02:39Some high rainfall totals likely through Thursday and into Friday as this system pushes northwards.
02:45It turns milder in the south on Thursday.
02:47Temperatures in the north probably a nudge higher than Wednesday, 6 or 7 degrees Celsius.
02:53Into Friday, that system will have cleared, taking any rain, perhaps even some hill snow towards the northeast.
02:59In its wake, showers towards more western areas, further north the legacy of cloud and a few wintry showers across western Scotland as well.
