00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05It's wet tonight with a band of rain and some hill snow, and then through tomorrow we are expecting further showers towards the northwest, some more heavy rain further south.
00:15So here are these bands of clouds and rain pushing over northeastwards.
00:19This one here will bring the risk of some heavier downpours across southern counties.
00:23A rain warning has been issued for Thursday, problems on the roads in particular through morning and evening rush hour.
00:29As we see showers following, low pressure still centred across the UK, causing some problems with some heavy downpours, and certainly the weather remains unsettled.
00:39So here's that rain through this evening, covering most of Scotland, northern England, Wales, the west country.
00:44This feature here bringing showery bursts extending from the southeast towards Lincolnshire.
00:50Notice some snow over the higher ground, so there could be a few problems if you are travelling over higher routes through this evening and overnight.
00:57But there is a clearance coming in from the west.
01:00Certainly you'll notice that across Wales, northern Ireland, seeing a few showers across the far north into the early hours of the morning.
01:07And showers continue and they'll be frequent across the northwest of Scotland.
01:11And again, hill over the hills as well as the mountains.
01:14Temperatures could dip close to freezing if not below, so a frost in places.
01:19Let's pick up on that rain towards the south through Thursday.
01:22A rain warning kicks in at 9am, covering much of southern counties.
01:26Some heavy downpours are likely, so expect spray and flooding on the roads as it extends towards the southeast of England and pushes up across East Anglia.
01:36Clips the Midlands towards Lincolnshire and then eventually east Yorkshire.
01:41Elsewhere through tomorrow morning, some drier skies.
01:44A few showers lurking across the northwest of England, far north and west of Northern Ireland.
01:48West and Scotland seeing frequent showers and that hill and mountain snow.
01:52Brighter skies then replaced by cloud across East Wales, northern England, as this rain intensifies and pushes ever northwards and eastwards,
02:01covering the Midlands and eventually pushing up to southern parts of northern England.
02:06Dry skies elsewhere to follow, though, across more western areas.
02:10But those showers will file in across the far southwest, and we continue with those showers across the north and northwest of Scotland.
02:19Wintry over the higher ground.
02:20Temperatures slightly higher across more southern counties through the afternoon, 9, 10 degrees Celsius.
02:26Notice this rain clears by around 10, 11 o'clock through into Friday morning.
02:31Then a frost develops, but showers will push in from the west.
02:35They could be heavy, merging to form longer spells of rain as we enter the day on Friday.
02:40This band of showers will push over northwards with further showers, likely just coming in yet again from the west-southwest with a bit of a breeze,
02:49but some broken cloud through the afternoon across eastern counties.
02:53Temperatures then 5 or 6 across the north, up to 10 further south.
02:57Bit of a breeze to end the working week.
03:00And into the weekend, there's a lot of cloud.
03:03Watch out for some mist and fog patches.
03:05It's going to be chilly, and with that, where the cloud's thick enough, we could see some bits and pieces of drizzle and light rain.
