09 January - National Weather Forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Good morning. Storm Goretti has moved away to the east but there's still disruption
00:05due to the snow and strong winds it brought last night. It is moving away to the east of the UK.
00:11You can see the swirl of cloud that's Storm Goretti out to the eastern area moving into parts
00:16of Europe where it will bring further snow and strong winds through this weekend. But for the UK
00:21things are starting to settle down at least for the start of the weekend. Still some very heavy
00:26rain to come though from Storm Goretti across many eastern areas and it is cold across the rest of
00:32the UK. We've still got that arctic air bringing that cold feel and the risk of snow showers across
00:37many northern areas and where that snow starts to thaw where it fell overnight across parts of the
00:42Midlands and Wales it will likely refreeze overnight bringing a risk of icy stretches. So still a cold
00:49feel, still some disruption from the weather likely into this afternoon. Plenty of cloud around so very
00:55little in the way of sunshine away from parts of Northern Ireland and it is going to feel fairly
01:00chilly out there particularly across eastern areas where we've still got fairly brisk winds
01:04through this afternoon but nowhere near as strong as they were last night. Into this evening clear
01:09skies will develop for many central areas allowing temperatures to fall away quite widely into minus
01:15single figures but where there's any lying snow will likely be down into minus double digits in some
01:20areas. As I said a risk of icy stretches to start the day for parts of Wales, the Midlands, much of
01:26Northern England, Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. So potentially a disruptive start to the day.
01:32Widely a very cold night tonight. A frost is expected as well as that risk of ice away from any coastal areas.
01:40And through Saturday there will be some dry weather, some brighter weather. It's looking like the better day
01:45of the weekend. More in the way of sunshine through Saturday but still a risk of icy stretches to start
01:50the day. Best of the sunshine into the afternoon. Parts of Northern England, Eastern Scotland seeing
01:55some brighter weather as well as Northern Ireland once again. It's not going to feel particularly mild
02:00though. It's still going to be another cold day on Saturday down in the low single figures wherever you
02:06are. And you can see the cloud starting to thicken across western areas into Northern Ireland through
02:12Saturday evening. So there is a change on the way for Sunday. More wet weather as well as some snow
02:19is likely as we head into Sunday. But before then a clear skies developing widely across the country.
02:25So another very cold evening to come on Saturday. So the wet weather moving in will bring milder weather
02:30but as it bumps into the cold air at first on Sunday there is a risk of some fairly widespread snow.
02:37Particularly across parts of Scotland, Northern England there is a warning in force for that. So please
02:42take a look at our app and website for more details on that. But it will quite quickly turn to rain
02:48through the latter part of Sunday and into Monday. So the risk of flooding as we head into the new week.
02:53So there's lots going on with our weather. So please stay up to date and you can do that by
02:57subscribing to our YouTube channel. See you again soon. Bye bye.
