00:00This afternoon will be one of those days where it's sunshine one moment and then it's raining
00:05the next. That's all because we're expecting a day of sunshine and showers. Now across
00:09central areas, parts of the east and southeast, it will probably be mostly dry, plenty of
00:14sunny spells, but even by the afternoon we could catch one or two showers here. The bulk
00:18of the showers will be across western areas where it could be quite breezy. We could also
00:22see some heavy showers with some hail and thunder mixed in there, and if you do catch
00:26any heavy downpours, it could turn quite gusty for a time, but there will be sunny
00:30spells in between. Temperatures around about average for the time of year, highs
00:34reaching around 20 degrees Celsius across the southeast, around the mid-teens
00:38elsewhere. Through into the evening we'll see a bit of a rinse and repeat in our
00:44weather, a mix of clear skies and also some showers, some more persistent showers
00:48pushing across Northern Ireland overnight into Scotland, parts of northern England
00:52as we head through the early hours of Saturday. So if you're up early during the
00:56weekend you could catch some quite heavy downpours, some isolated showers too
01:00across parts of the south and a mixture of some dry spells, but plenty of cloud
01:04which means temperatures won't drop too low, lows reaching around nine to ten
01:08degrees Celsius. For the start of the weekend it's going to be a fairly similar
01:13day to what we'll see on Friday, some sunny brighter spells, but keep your raincoat
01:18close because there's a chance of showers once again across western areas as they
01:21push in through, moving their way eastward, so at times central areas or parts of the
01:26east and southeast could catch some of these showers as they drift their way in
01:29from the west. The old one or too heavy with some hail and thunder, but plenty of
01:33bright spells in between, highs reaching 19 degrees Celsius.
01:38Now Saturday is probably the better day of the weekend. Yes, into the evening those
01:42showers will continue, but eventually we'll start to see a ridge of high
01:45pressure ease away any showery outbreaks, and that means with plenty of clear skies
01:50overnight it will turn cooler, quite fresh by the time we reach Sunday morning. But low pressure,
01:55not too far away, pushing in from the west, bringing in some heavy outbreaks of rain and
02:00also some strong winds, but only really starting to push into parts of the southwest during
02:04the early hours of the morning. Elsewhere it's going to be quite a dry and bright start with
02:07some sunshine, but through the day we'll see those conditions start to deteriorate. Heavy
02:12band of rain pushing its way northeastwards, it's going to turn quite gusty along this band
02:16of rain too, a chance we could even see some gales in exposed regions. And even behind this,
02:22once this area of rain has cleared, there's set to be some quite heavy downpours, heavy
02:26showers behind it. So it's going to be quite a windy day, outbreaks of rain, staying mostly
02:30dry across the far northeast of Scotland, but even here later we'll start to see heavy
02:35outbreaks of rain. And actually it'll probably feel a little warmer, a bit more humid, highs
02:39reaching around 20 degrees Celsius, but this obviously being offset by the unsettled weather.
02:43Now later Sunday through into the early hours of Monday, that's where we're expecting the
02:49strongest winds, so a chance of severe gales across the southern half of the country. So
02:53a Met Office warning has been issued for these areas. Keep an eye on our website and our social
02:58media channels for any details on those. Low pressure still sitting to the north as we
03:02head into Monday and into next week it still looks to remain unsettled with some strong winds
03:08and some showers and also some longer spells of rain. So do keep an eye out for the warning
03:12details later Sunday through into Monday, but otherwise if you want any more weather updates
03:17don't forget to stay subscribed.
