11 September - National Weather Forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Do not adjust your calendar. It is September, but we are seeing lots of showers across the country at the moment.
00:06Heavy downpours coming and going for the next few days.
00:10Here's the view from space, all these speckles there, shower clouds, something brewing behind me off the coast of Canada.
00:17More on that later, that's going to approach for Sunday.
00:19But ahead of that, we've got lots of showers to come over the next couple of days.
00:23This low pressure system is really driving all of those.
00:27Weather fronts sitting into western Scotland, so more persistent rain here.
00:31Elsewhere, you can see those speckled showers that we started the day with in the west,
00:35but they're now moving further east and developing into all areas, seeing that mix of sunshine and showers this afternoon.
00:43There is enough of a breeze to chase them through, but they are going to be heavy in places.
00:47A crack of lightning, a rumble of thunder also possible.
00:50Parts of northeast Scotland may not see much in the way of showers, but to the west,
00:55that's where we've got more persistent rain and the strongest winds.
00:58Very gusty indeed over the Highlands and the Western Isles.
01:01Elsewhere, a brisk breeze, as I said, moving the showers through, meaning a sunny spell is never too far away,
01:08but also bringing a fresh feel.
01:09It's certainly cooler than yesterday out there.
01:11Temperatures mostly just in the high teens, and those temperatures, of course, drop off when the showers come along.
01:16Still plenty of them around for this evening's rush hour.
01:18A lot of spray, a lot of surface water on the roads.
01:20It stays very wet in western Scotland, although the winds will at least ease a touch overnight.
01:26For much of the Midlands, much of eastern England, the showers should fade.
01:30And so, actually, for quite a few of us, much of the night will be dry.
01:33And with the winds easing a little as well, temperatures will dip down into single digits.
01:38And for Friday, a fine start again for the Midlands and a good part of eastern England.
01:42A sunny beginning to the day, but there'll already be showers in the west.
01:48And just like today, the showers will develop as we go through mid to late morning, becoming heavy and thundery once more.
01:55They will, again, zip through because there's enough of a breeze blowing, but the odd really heavy downpour is possible.
02:02And then the sun will pop out maybe five or ten minutes later because that breeze will chase the showers through.
02:07Won't be as wet in northwest Scotland for Friday either.
02:09There'll still be some showers, but not that persistent rain that we're seeing today.
02:13And the wind's a little lighter.
02:15So, as a result, might feel a little better here, but still only 14 or 15.
02:19Further south, maybe 17, 18, 19 degrees.
02:22So, generally around or a touch below average and certainly feeling cooler when the showers come along once more.
02:28And still plenty of those showers around if you're heading out on Friday at night.
02:31Again, if you're heading away for the weekend, quite a bit of spray and surface water on the roads as the showers just keep on coming.
02:37Another band of showers threatening to push in during Friday evening into Northern Ireland, tied into another little weather system.
02:44But most of the eyes out into the weekend for this low, likely to intensify during Saturday and swinging in across the UK during Sunday.
02:53So, Saturday is another day of sunshine and showers.
02:56And then Sunday, this low comes in.
02:58More rain on the weather fronts and the ice of our squeezing together.
03:01So, some strong winds surround West Wales and western parts of England, where we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place.
03:08Honor will have a full weekend forecast available on our YouTube channel by Thursday afternoon.
03:13But broadly speaking, sun and showers again on Saturday.
03:16A spell of wet and windy weather across the country on Sunday.
03:19And we have a wind warning issued.
03:21For more details on that, you'll want to check the app.
03:24Or, of course, there's more details on the weather warnings on our website.
