00:00Hello, it's been a cold, frosty, and for some of us, snowy start to the day.
00:06We've had some fair amount of snow falling, particularly across northern areas of Scotland,
00:11but there's also been a spell of snow that's moved through Northern Ireland, Wales,
00:15and some central and southeastern areas of England.
00:17This is the Snowdar from the past 24 hours.
00:20That was that spell of snowy weather that pushed through,
00:23but for now, it's actually northern areas of Scotland
00:26where we're going to continue to see the most frequent snow showers.
00:29We do have an amber warning in force here.
00:32That's because there's some very strong winds as well,
00:34so a risk of blowing and drifting snow that does make for pretty tricky travelling conditions.
00:39We'll also see the showers across parts of Northern Ireland,
00:42and Wales turn increasingly into snow through this afternoon, so there's a risk of ice here.
00:46But for many inland areas, after that damper start, particularly across southern areas,
00:51it will turn into a much brighter afternoon with plenty of crisp winter sunshine out there.
00:56But it is going to stay chilly.
00:58Actually, many northern areas struggling to get above zero degrees will be in the low single figures at best,
01:04away from any coastal areas where it's always just a little bit warmer at this time of year.
01:09But there's a pretty brisk northerly wind that will bring a chilly feel.
01:13So we'll continue to see those snow showers into this evening.
01:16We've still got that amber warning in force for northern areas of Scotland in particular.
01:20Inland areas remaining dry, but there is a risk of ice.
01:23Well, we have seen any showers through today, and I think wherever you are, you can expect a frost to develop overnight.
01:30These are the minimum temperatures overnight, widely well below zero, widespread frost expected by Saturday morning.
01:38That could take much of the day to thaw out if it does at all.
01:42Now, I notice this triangle appearing across eastern areas of England through Saturday morning.
01:46That's because this feature here in the North Sea brings a risk of some snow showers to northeastern areas of England in particular,
01:54particularly over high ground.
01:55Some places like the North York Moors most likely to see any accumulations,
01:59but a dusting of snow likely into the afternoon across many coastal areas here.
02:03And we'll continue to see those snow showers across northern Scotland, northern Ireland, some western areas of Wales as well.
02:10But the further south and west we go, the more likely they are to be slushier rather than snow.
02:15And once again, many inland areas seeing lots of sparkling winter sunshine.
02:20But another chilly day to come on Saturday, one or two degrees, if that, across many northern areas,
02:27all the while still a little bit milder just across the coast.
02:30As we head into Saturday evening, there's very little in the way of change.
02:35A continued risk of tricky travelling conditions across many northern and eastern areas.
02:40We could see some further snow and sleety showers across the southwest of England, Wales, as well as parts of northern Ireland.
02:47So a continued risk of snow as well as ice if you are travelling.
02:52But many inland areas staying very sunny.
