29 December - National evening forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Good evening. More in the way of sunshine to come on Tuesday, but before then, still pretty grey out there, particularly across many western areas of the UK.
00:10Across the east, those skies will turn much clearer through this evening, particularly across much of Scotland.
00:15Those clearer skies spread further west by tomorrow morning, but there will continue to be a pretty strong northerly breeze affecting many eastern areas, as well as parts of the southwest as well.
00:25A few showers actually potentially clipping the far southwest, but for most of us, it should be a dry night.
00:31But a cold start to the day across parts of Scotland in particular, where the skies remain the clearest and those winds are much lighter here.
00:39Could be down to around minus nine, minus ten in the coldest spots to start the day on Tuesday.
00:44But where the winds continue to stay relatively strong and will continue to see that cloud further east, temperatures well above freezing here.
00:51But still another chilly feel to the day to come on Tuesday.
00:54Plenty of sunshine, though, particularly across northern areas through the morning.
00:58That sunshine becomes more widely felt as we head into the afternoon, spreading into much of England and Wales.
01:04But that pesky northerly breeze still affecting northeastern areas of England in particular.
01:09And the winds will be strong, actually, across more southwestern areas of England, too.
01:15But away from those areas, it will feel slightly better in the sunshine.
01:18Temperatures around six or seven degrees is around average for the time of year.
01:22But where you're exposed to that breeze, feeling much cooler than this.
01:26And it does turn colder as we head through the rest of the week.
01:29Clearer skies becoming more widespread through Tuesday evening.
01:32Quite a harsh frost is expected to develop through.
01:36By the time we get to New Year's Eve morning, quite widely across much of England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland.
01:43Temperatures well below freezing.
01:45So a very frosty start to the last day of the year.
01:48But it should be another dry and bright day.
01:51So a good day to be getting out and about if you are wrapped up.
01:54So plenty of sunshine to come.
01:56But if you notice, looking up to the north and west, we see westerly winds starting to arrive.
02:01A change in our weather starting to show its face as we head into the new year, as it is turning much more unsettled.
02:09However, before then, plenty of sunshine to come through New Year's Eve day.
02:13Another chilly feel, though.
02:15Temperatures down in the single figures.
02:17A little below average, in fact, for the last day of 2025.
02:21As I said, as we head into 2026, we're going to be seeing a change to more unsettled weather and even colder weather.
02:27There is a risk of snow, particularly over the high ground across northern areas.
02:31Now, you can find more of that in our latest week ahead on YouTube.
02:35And I'll see you again soon.
02:36Bye-bye.
