00:00Let's go boots on the ground.
00:02He's all about that action, boss.
00:04He's, in fact, a part of the, what is it again?
00:09Channel 6 action, 6 ABC action news.
00:14I want to make sure I get that right.
00:15Straight out of Anchorman.
00:16Because he's our, yeah, thank you.
00:18I read the thing wrong.
00:20No, he's our friend, Jason Dumas.
00:22He used to be here at 95.7 The Game, and now he's in Philly.
00:25So a perfect guy to connect with as we talk this one out
00:28on the River Islands guest line.
00:30Hey, Jason, what's going on, man?
00:32What's up, fellas?
00:33How you doing?
00:33We're doing fantastic.
00:35Is this the worst place where the Niners could have ended up
00:38this weekend, in your opinion?
00:42Yeah, probably.
00:44But I don't think that's saying, like, too much.
00:48I think the Niners are a really good team, too.
00:52Where else could they have been?
00:53Carolina.
00:54It would have been better to be in Carolina.
00:57Chicago.
00:57Chicago, I mean, I think Chicago and Philly are kind of a toss-up.
01:01So, I mean, it is what it is.
01:03I feel like with this NFC playoff this season,
01:06whoever makes it out is going to have to beat at least two really good teams.
01:10So it is what it is, you know?
01:12What are Philly fans thinking about the Eagles' chances,
01:15and do they think that they are one of those really good teams?
01:19Yeah, yeah.
01:20I think the Eagles like their chances, and same with the fans, and why not?
01:26I mean, this is a team they saw win a Super Bowl a year ago.
01:29It's pretty much the same exact group of people.
01:33So they have a reason to be confident.
01:35I don't think they're overconfident or delusional.
01:37I think most rational-minded people know the 49ers are good.
01:41They know the 49ers have some pedigree, too.
01:43A lot of people in that building over there in Santa Clara has been to two Super Bowls, right?
01:48So I think people are aware of that.
01:50And all the players have been very complimentary of Kyle Shanahan and Christian McCaffrey
01:55and Kittle, and they know what comes with it.
01:59They know why this team has kind of been really good for a long period of time, hold last year.
02:04Jason, did you just say rational people while talking about Eagles fans?
02:08Wow.
02:09Yeah, you know, I mean, you got some psychos in the group, no doubt about it.
02:14And Philadelphians, they're passionate.
02:16They're passionate for sure.
02:18But more than not, they know what they're talking about, though, what they see on the field.
02:24Well, let me ask you this, then, because we're hearing a lot, and you're there,
02:28so you tell us that Nick Sirianni and the organization are being criticized a little bit
02:34for not going after the No. 2 seed a little bit harder over the last weekend.
02:42First question is, is that the case?
02:45Are they being criticized for that?
02:47Yeah, you definitely have a portion of the fan base who did not like that decision.
02:52That is 100% accurate.
02:54Okay, and do you agree with that?
02:56Because the other option would have been to go forward and play the Packers,
03:01and I don't know if they're better than the Niners, but they're certainly healthier than the Niners.
03:05No, I mean, so I'm in the business, even when I work for the game,
03:10I am not in the business of telling people who know more than me what they should and shouldn't be doing.
03:18Nick Sirianni has won a lot of games.
03:20He's been to two Super Bowls.
03:22This has been his MO since he got there.
03:24It's more of an organizational thing, I should say.
03:28The Eagles really value rest.
03:31Whenever they can rest their players, going all the way back to training camp, since he's been here, they do it.
03:38Rest one in during the regular season when they can.
03:40The starters virtually never play during the preseason.
03:43They've been doing this for a while, and Nick Sirianni has been very successful.
03:47So who am I to say it was a dumb move?
03:49They don't care who they're playing.
03:51You know what I mean?
03:51They won a Super Bowl last year.
03:53They're more worried about being healthy when it comes time to win or go home,
03:58and it's no disrespect to the 49ers.
04:00There's no disrespect to anybody.
04:01They didn't care who was coming in.
04:03They wanted to be healthy, and it's worked for them.
04:05So, yeah, I tend to go with what Nick Sirianni decision he made, you know?
04:10What's different about the offense this year?
04:12Last year they were seventh in points per game.
04:15This year they're 19th.
04:16What's been the big change?
04:17Now that's the million-dollar question,
04:20and that's the question that has been at the forefront all season long.
04:27I think the biggest issue, I mean,
04:29there's been a different play caller every year since Jalen's been here,
04:32but I think the biggest issue is this offensive line has taken a step back.
04:35The only one who has kind of played up to his high standard is Lane Johnson,
04:40but Jordan Maialata to a lesser degree of the other three I'm going to say,
04:44but Jordan Maialata, Cam Juergens, Landon Dickerson, they haven't played up to their standard.
04:51They just haven't.
04:52They've been significantly worse than they were the year before.
04:55Now all of those guys have been pro bowlers or all pro in their careers,
04:58so it's a high standard, but I think it starts with that.
05:01I think the offensive line just has not played as well,
05:05and that has muddied the waters a bit.
05:08And then obviously you have a first-time play caller in Kevin Petullo.
05:12He's been with the organization for a while,
05:14but this is his first time running the offense,
05:16and there's been some growing pains, and it's been noticeable,
05:20and I think that's the biggest difference between this year's team and last year's team.
05:24Obviously the defense this year is better,
05:26but the defense last year was also really good,
05:28especially the defensive line.
05:31That offense has been the biggest difference between years.
05:34Jason, real quick, is Lane Johnson going to play?
05:36Yeah, yeah, he's going to play.
05:39I mean, that's not reported information.
05:41That's more of my opinion, but he was out there today, practice.
05:44First time he was out on the practice field since they played the Lions,
05:48I think, in week 11 when he played in that game.
05:52Obviously that Liz Frank foot injury, which is a little tricky,
05:55affects basketball players typically more than football players.
05:57We saw Kevin Durant deal with that injury for like two years.
06:02But Lane Johnson's a tough guy.
06:03It's very, very, very hard for me to see him not playing in this game on Sunday.
06:10I do have some reported information that we are looking for from you if you're ready.
06:15Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
06:16Okay, what book is A.J. Brown going to read on the sideline in this game?
06:20It depends how many times he gets the ball in the first half.
06:24Yeah.
06:24Like, where is that relationship?
06:26Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, the receivers as a whole?
06:29I think the relationship is fine.
06:32Jalen has known A.J. for a long time.
06:34I think he kind of understands what comes with it as a teammate, as a competitor.
06:41Jalen is very cerebral and, to be quite frank, a very mature guy.
06:45So if there's a quarterback to navigate the waters of a wide receiver who has an ego
06:53and really wants the ball a lot, Jalen Hurts is the guy who can do that better than most people in NFL.
06:59He's one of the best leaders in the NFL, in my opinion.
07:02He has this quiet confidence about him.
07:05So it's fine.
07:06There's nothing dire.
07:08You know, if you had asked me that maybe six, seven weeks ago, maybe it would have been a little bit of a different answer.
07:12But things have been quiet on the A.J. Brown front for months now.
07:16But it definitely is always something going on, it seems like.
07:20And they've quieted the ships.
07:23That hasn't really been much of a talking point here in Philly over the last couple months.
07:27Jason Dumas here on 95.7 The Game, live from Philly.
07:30You mentioned Kevin Petullo, offensive coordinator.
07:33We know that Lord Vic Fangio is the D.C.
07:35So what does Nick Sirianni actually do?
07:37Shoot, man, he leads the ships.
07:41I mean, he hires smart people when he can, obviously.
07:46There's been mixed bag over the years.
07:48Mostly good, though.
07:49Let's be honest, mostly good.
07:50He's won more than any other coach over the last five years in terms of winning percentage.
07:56But, yeah, I mean, he's another guy.
07:59He's a player's coach, man.
08:01And there's been a lot of situations where a lot of teams would have fallen apart, you know.
08:08And they did that one year in 23.
08:10But more or less, these guys are willing to go to war for Nick Sirianni.
08:15And he's the guy that keeps everything together.
08:18You know, a lot of huge personalities on this team.
08:21You know, it's a team sport.
08:22But within this team sport, a lot of players have their own agenda.
08:25Nick Sirianni does a great job a lot not allowing players' own agenda to get in the way of the bigger message.
08:35And, you know, he's won a lot of games for it.
08:38Okay, so with all that said, what does Philly look like and sound like if they were to lose this game on Sunday?
08:49Oh, man.
08:50I mean, it's Philly.
08:51So the sky would fall.
08:53It would be a tough couple of weeks for a lot of people in this fan base.
08:58You know, Eagles football sets the tone in this city.
09:02You know, you can tell on Monday mornings whether the Eagles won or lost.
09:05You simply can just by how people are acting.
09:08So the sky would definitely be falling.
09:11You know, you'd have some wackos calling for Nick Sirianni's job.
09:16His job is not in jeopardy.
09:19You know, now Kevin Petulo, some of the other guys, yeah, their job would probably – they'd probably lose their job if the Eagles lose tomorrow, especially if it's a poor offensive performance.
09:32Nick Sirianni is fine.
09:33But it would be a tough couple of weeks if they lost on Monday because this isn't the roster that should be one and done.
09:40They have the highest-paid offense in the NFL and overall one of the highest-paid teams in the NFL.
09:48They just won a Super Bowl, and they have, like, all-pro-level players at their peak at, like, multiple different positions.
09:56So on paper, this is a team that theoretically should win another Super Bowl.
10:00So, obviously, you've got to go out there and play.
10:03And there's a couple other teams in the NFL that I think are highly capable of winning a Super Bowl.
10:07But here in Philly, yes, the sky would definitely be falling if they lost.
10:11There would not be any moral victories.
10:13The fan base would not be able to see the good in the situation.
10:16It would be a rough couple of weeks if the Eagles lose on Sunday.
10:20He used to be here.
10:21Now he's there.
10:226-A-B-C.
10:23Jason Dumas.
10:24It's always fun to hear your voice, man.
10:26Thanks for hopping on.
10:27Yeah, great hearing your guys' voice, too.
10:29Tell everybody around the station I said hello.
10:32I miss you guys, and it was great talking to you.
10:34Okay, man.
10:34Bye, RJ.
10:35All right.
10:35Have a good one out there at that game this weekend, Jason.
10:39All right, fellas.
10:40All right, there he goes.
10:41Jason Dumas in Philly right here on 95.7 The Game.
10:44Yeah, great guy.
