00:00As of a couple hours ago, a very, very positive update on Steph Curry.
00:06Full practice today, full contact.
00:09You had an interesting question that we'll throw to Steve Curry here at 5 o'clock.
00:14I actually don't have the full picture of what that means.
00:18Right.
00:19So even just think about the way he says this, it's kind of interesting.
00:23Steph Curry practiced in full today, and now we're about to go do five on five.
00:27Well, what'd you do in practice?
00:30My perception has always been that you do five on five.
00:34Like, you play basketball in practice.
00:36Right?
00:37Probably not at the NBA level.
00:39Are you doing yoga?
00:40Are you doing yoga?
00:41I don't know.
00:42So, like, I want to hear what was Steph's day.
00:46Walk us through it like we're dumb.
00:48Well, because we are.
00:49Maybe we are.
00:50I mean, yeah.
00:52I mean, I coached high school, and you do a two-hour practice.
00:55And you do, like, okay, we're going to do, like, layups, or we're going to do shooting drills.
01:00And we're going to do this.
01:00We're going to do that.
01:01We're going to run.
01:02And at the end, we're going to scrimmage.
01:04And that's what you did virtually every day.
01:06But if you're an NBA coach, especially at this point of the year where we're damn near to April,
01:12and tomorrow is one of the worst days of the year, but I won't get into that now.
01:16April 1st, April Fool's Day, it's just so stupid.
01:19It'll be fine.
01:20It's jump the shark.
01:20I know it'll be fine, but it's just annoying.
01:23But if you're an NBA coach at this point of the year and you're practicing,
01:27you're not, like, doing a full-on five-on-five, let's go out there and let's run the press break
01:33and let's do this and that.
01:34So if Steph Curry needs the scrimmage, like, who sticks around for that?
01:38At 2.30 tomorrow, Victor Wimanyama is getting traded to the Golden State Warriors.
01:42Exactly.
01:43I'll announce it at 2.30 tomorrow.
01:44Grandi will hit the breaking news sounder.
01:46Victor Wimanyama forces his way to the Warriors just in time for the game tomorrow night at 7 o'clock.
01:52Yeah.
01:52Victor is going to play for the Warriors.
01:53That's my prediction.
01:54Well, and tomorrow you have to be aware on Twitter of, like, you know, rap sheet with two P's or
02:00an extra E in there.
02:01Well, that's every day, though.
02:02Or Adam Schnifter or all the rest of it, like, you know, the breaking news.
02:07It is every day, but especially tomorrow.
02:10Like, Adam Schnifter and, you know, John Heyman.
02:15Well, just John Heyman.
02:16Just John Heyman.
02:18Hey, here's what Steve Kerr said, and then we'll go from there.
02:23You'll also hear slates in this back and forth.
02:27He went through full practice, but it was very late.
02:29We didn't do anything live.
02:31He's going to scrimmage right now, five on five.
02:35And so, yeah, it's a good step for him.
02:39Do you, I mean, I would assume he's out tomorrow.
02:41Yeah, he won't play tomorrow.
02:42I mean, we've got to see how he responds to the scrimmage, and then we'll just take it.
02:48Is Thursday even on the table?
02:51Doubtful.
02:51Well, I mean, we'll be talking to Rick at some scrimmage today, and see how he feels
02:56tomorrow, and then we'll go from there.
02:58Jive's exactly what, do you want to hear the text back and forth with Doc Pandia?
03:02I do, yeah.
03:02Or does it trigger you since you feel like that?
03:04No, no, no, you've been teasing it.
03:04Well, I mean, I, you know.
03:06I'm just eight years of medical school away from being Doc Pandia.
03:09That's a good point.
03:10That's a good point.
03:10That and a GPA, which was woefully close to 2.0.
03:13I mean, I'm sure there's a school out there that would take you.
03:16But anyway, the way I frame the question is I want your opinion based on what we just
03:23learned and the fact that there are people out there who believe that something is being
03:30risked here.
03:32Are they risking anything either now or into the future?
03:37Doc Pandia's response.
03:40If he does five on five and feels well, it's a very good sign.
03:44The only tricky thing is knowing how the knee will respond to several games in a row, as
03:49things can always flare back up with increased load.
03:52But at this point, you kind of got to put him out there and see how he does if he
03:57passes
03:58all the tests through scrimmaging.
04:00You just can't simulate extended activity over several games.
04:04So then, right over here, I have a follow-up.
04:09Follow-up, Doc Pandia?
04:10Let's go to Mark on the text.
04:12And so what I said was, okay, that's great info.
04:16What about long-term?
04:18Because I have heard over and over, why would you play now and put next season at risk?
04:26Is that a thing?
04:28He says, quote, unless there's something they're not telling us about the MRI, the good news is
04:34you can't really cause any long-term damage unless you push through pretty high pain for
04:41an extended period, i.e. he would be limping around out there every game and play through
04:46it anyway, which is clearly not happening.
04:49There's always the risk of a secondary injury by compensating, but that would be more kind
04:55of bad luck than anything else.
04:58Yep.
04:58So that's his answer.
04:59So, everybody tuck all your grandma energy away with all of the fear-mongering and the
05:07what if and the if and the next year and then and the lottery and what happens if, like,
05:13put it away.
05:14Put it away.
05:15He's healthy and can do essentially no reasonable related damage now that has anything to do
05:23with this fall and winter.
05:25And we'll know more tomorrow based on what he did in the scrimmage, like, what's the
05:29level of soreness?
05:30Because I'm sure there'll be some soreness, there'll be some fatigue, and, you know, they
05:33play tomorrow and they play Thursday, so he's going to be out for both of those.
05:37And then you have a Sunday game, which I think that would be the most likely game for him
05:42to return.
05:43Then it's Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday.
05:46So if you want to look at the last five games of the year, if he plays Sunday, could he
05:51play
05:51Tuesday?
05:51Sure.
05:52Would he play Thursday?
05:54Maybe.
05:55It would be Thursday or Friday.
05:57Or Friday, right.
05:57And then Sunday, if you're already locked in your seed, you probably don't play him there
06:00either.
06:01Which I think they are likely to be.
06:03You know me.
06:03Exactly.
06:03I don't like to be defeatist, but the good thing about this ramp up, if you want to call
06:08it that, is I don't believe there's any part of the remaining seven games where the
06:13Warriors are like, hey, Steph, come save us and go get us a seed.
06:17This is literally just about get yourself ready for April 14th, which is the first possible
06:26day that they would play.
06:28April 14th.
06:29In the play-in, yeah.
06:30In the play-in.
06:30So they've got seven games left, and it's going to be no, no, probable, I think, against
06:35Houston.
06:36Questionable.
06:37Right.
06:37I mean, by the time you get there, and again, I'm just guessing, but if you've got seven
06:43games left, you're probably going to see Steph in three at the most.
06:46I would guess.
06:48Three or four.
06:48At the most.
06:49Yeah.
06:49I mean, if it's no, no, and then it's like a Sunday and a Tuesday, and then a back-to
06:55-back
06:55he'll play one of them, and then you get to that last game of the year, if it's meaningless,
06:59you probably sit everyone.
07:00Maybe.
07:00Except for Malavi and my guy, Yurt Seven.
07:04Unless he wants some minutes, because he's still kind of, you know, getting his legs and
07:11all that.
07:11I mean, how many games has Kristaps played?
07:13And he's still like, yeah, we're not like 100%.
07:15And I love that, because, you know, Kristaps, you were five for five from three.
07:19How's that jumper?
07:20No, it's not there yet.
07:22It's not there yet.
07:22It's not back-back.
07:23It's not there yet, because I was supposed to be six for six, but that Pods dude won't
07:26pass.
07:27Seriously, right?
07:28I mean.
07:29Sorry.
07:30No, I mean.
07:32It's true.
07:32Go ahead and give the phone number.
07:33We'll unlock the phones.
07:34And you can have, yeah.
07:35Yeah.
07:35888-957-PODS.
07:37Exactly.
07:38And call it.
07:39On the Pods hotline.
07:40Yep.
07:40So, I mean, we had the Valkyries management team in the building today.
07:45And so, you know, we're 13 days away from that.
07:47But in the meantime, yeah.
07:50If you're bored, just call and rip Pods.
07:52Casey Schmidt in less than 10 minutes.
07:54And then Nick Fidel and Steve Kerr later on in the show.
07:57And it sounds like Steph Curry is getting ramped up and has crossed, you know, again, not the
08:04last hurdle, but maybe almost all of the hurdles except for the last one.
08:08The last one being, do your five-on-five, and then let's monitor you for 48 hours and
08:14see how your leg is reacting.
08:16And if so, as you just detailed, I think the practices get ramped up.
08:22On maybe Friday or Saturday in advance of Easter Sunday against the Houston Rockets
08:27and playing in that basketball game.
08:29Which would be great.
08:29It'd be the hope.
08:30And I'm just a little struck by what you played from Steve Kerr when he said, yeah, we didn't
08:35do anything live.
08:35So, today at practice, they didn't do anything live, which means it was drills without defense
08:42or drills without contact.
08:43And it was just kind of, you know, maybe what we used to do, like five-on-zero, where, you
08:49know, you run the play against air.
08:50You run the offense against nobody.
08:52And maybe you do, like, shooting drills against nobody.
08:55So, if you don't do anything live, it's kind of like an NFL practice where it's, you know,
09:01non-padded.
09:02And you're just, like, doing a little bit more than a walkthrough.
09:05It's like a full-speed walkthrough type of thing.
09:07Nice workout.
09:08It's funny, though, because they said nothing live, but then they also called it full contact.
09:12Again, like, I don't know.
09:13I don't know.
09:14Like, I'd love to hear the blow-by-blow of exactly what they did today.
09:19And obviously, it's great that Steve will join us at five o'clock because what we have
09:24from Steve now is prior to the five-on-five scrimmage.
09:28We'll get an update after the five-on-five scrimmage.
09:31It still won't be definitive because, again, per Steve, per Celebrini, per Doc Pandia, what
09:37they all want to do is you've arrived at the five-on-five.
09:41Now, we want to know how your body reacts over the next 48 hours.
09:44But we can at least hopefully get, yeah, he did it.
09:47He did the five-on-five and seemed fine.
09:49And I want to know what it is.
09:51Like, are there refs?
09:53Is it, like, a 48-minute scrimmage?
09:55Like, what is it when you do a five-on-five scrimmage?
09:57I am fascinated by that.
