00:00John Lynch says that substation thing.
00:03Yeah, we checked into it.
00:04Yeah, we got a scientist in there with about four decades worth of electromagnetic experience.
00:10Debunked.
00:11You know what I'm making for dinner tonight?
00:13I can't wait.
00:14I'm excited.
00:14This is one of my favorite things to make for the kids when I get home tonight.
00:17I don't know where you're going.
00:19We're making nothing burgers tonight.
00:21We did hire an independent scientist.
00:24You know, he basically was a big nothing burger.
00:27I'm going to eat it.
00:27We're safe.
00:28Like we're in a safe place of work.
00:31The levels are, I think I read in there, 400 times less than unsafe zones.
00:36And so it's a normal place of work.
00:38It's a normal gym.
00:40We are safe.
00:40We're healthy.
00:41And we feel really good about that.
00:43So I'll let Corey fill you in on more details.
00:45I read that part and felt really good.
00:47That was important to us, not just to turn a blind eye, but to look into it because it's
00:52our players' wellness.
00:53It's not only our players' wellness.
00:54It's coaches.
00:55It's staff.
00:56All that.
00:56It's encouraging.
00:58And I felt like it would be that way, but it's encouraging that it came out in a good
01:01place.
01:01Can I translate, John?
01:03My God, the patience that it would take to be in one of these positions.
01:07Here's what John Lynch said behind the scenes, according to me.
01:10Okay.
01:12This is stupid.
01:13This has always been stupid, but it became a big thing.
01:16And everyone started talking about it and certain players even started talking about it and
01:21it's their health and we're a free agent destination and we're a multi-billion dollar organization.
01:26So we better throw a couple of dollars at this so that we can come out and officially say what
01:31we already knew all along, which is, this is stupid.
01:33This is so incredibly unbelievably for 40 years now stupid, but you all talked about it so much
01:43that we better go take care of it and be sure.
01:48That's what my bet is, is happening behind the scenes.
01:50Well, this is what happens when you get information, not facts, but information, and it starts to
01:56take on a life of its own.
01:58And I'm thinking about the early days of the COVID pandemic when some had opined that ammonia might be
02:06something that would help to keep the virus at bay or hydroxychloroquine or whatever that thing was.
02:13But there was things that were thrown out and things become believed.
02:17And when they're believed by some, they get perpetrated and they get believed by more.
02:22And this is one of those cases where this electromagnetic wave from the substation that happens to be
02:28close enough to maybe be a thing.
02:30So now you have to go out there and get an independent scientist to, to debunk it.
02:35I'm sure behind the scenes, a lot of the execs are thinking, I can't believe that we had to
02:40use some of our man hours to actually have this be done.
02:44But unfortunately that's where we are.
02:47Um, and then there's one other lynch that I wanted to hit because I want, I'd love to know how
02:53you
02:54translate this.
02:56Um, and we're going to go to the phones here in a little bit, 888-957-957.
03:00We've got the Valks jersey to give away in the five o'clock hour.
03:02So stay tuned.
03:04You'll know the sounder when you hear it.
03:05And then you'll call the contest line and you'll win.
03:07The jersey's really, really good looking.
03:09Check this out though.
03:11Let's talk about Mike Evans and Christian Kirk both, both being in the wide receiver room this year.
03:15I want you to hear one of the comments that he makes in the process of talking about this.
03:20Check it out.
03:21Well, Mike and Christian, we're excited about, you know, that room that those rooms are always
03:25interesting ones.
03:26There's a lot of dynamics.
03:28And I think to have two grown men, uh, I think is, uh, is really exciting.
03:32Uh, I think Hank's looking forward to it.
03:34Uh, I think we're all looking forward to it.
03:37And, uh, that is not to disparage anybody we've had, but I think anytime you can add players
03:42to your team in general, but especially at that position.
03:45Those guys play the game the right way.
03:47And, uh, we've long looked at Christian Kirk and for ages and Christian was another guy.
03:52We had priced a lot higher and, you know, for whatever reason, uh, missed his market,
03:57but then really had opportunities to go play for more elsewhere, wanted to be a part of
04:01what we are all about.
04:03And so we were able to do something on a one-year deal and, and we're excited.
04:07He had, you know, we used to face him at Arizona here.
04:09Then he went over to Jacksonville, Houston last year, had spurts of really good play.
04:14And he's always been a respected player that plays the game the right way and plays, um,
04:20our style.
04:21So we're excited about adding him as well.
04:23Right at the beginning, he says, boy, those rooms always have some dynamics, don't they?
04:28Yeah, they sure do.
04:30And then he says, but it's great to have two grown men there.
04:34Right.
04:34All right.
04:35What's the translation?
04:36The translation is we had Brandon Iyuk who decided he didn't want to rehab here.
04:41We never heard from him.
04:42You had Juwan Jennings, who is a grown man doing things the right way, playing through
04:46injury, but he also had a bit of a contract thing in the off season.
04:50And then you've got a bunch of pups.
04:52You got Ricky Pierce, all still figuring out how to be a pro and a healthy pro.
04:56He got shot.
04:57He got hurt.
04:58He's not somebody who can command the room.
05:00And then you've got Sky Moore, who was just trying to stick as a kick returner.
05:04Demarcus Robinson coming off a three game suspension for a DUI situation.
05:10Kendrick Bourne, who kind of came in, breezed in and breezed out.
05:13And you kind of get the point where you didn't really have that OG presence in the room that
05:19you would want.
05:20And so now you bring in Mike Evans, a guy who is ticketed for the Hall of Fame.
05:23Eventually, Christian Kirk, a good, solid pro.
05:26And now that room, Jordan Watkins is still learning and finding his way and Pierce all in
05:30year three and all the rest of it.
05:32Now you've got real experienced leaders in there that you probably haven't had the last
05:37few years.
05:38I agree with everything you said, and I think you left one thing out.
05:42And that's Debo Samuel.
05:46A loved 49er.
05:48And I'm not trying to say otherwise.
05:51But let's think about what the wide receiver room has looked like over the last handful of
05:57years.
05:57You've had three different wide receivers get into contract squabbles with the 49ers.
06:03You've had one of them get into a shouting match with a long snapper and a kicker.
06:09One of them also demanded the ball more and then went out the very next week and dropped
06:15a game-winning touchdown pass.
06:16I don't need to recount for you the entire Brandon Ayuk situation.
06:21I agree with you.
06:22I think Juwan has been a great 49er.
06:25Although, even with him still sitting out on the market, they openly in this press conference
06:30said goodbye to him.
06:31They're like, wish him the best.
06:33See you later, Juwan.
06:35And the chuckle about the dynamics.
06:38I mean, I can imagine that there are 12 other things that we don't know about.
06:43And wide receivers are wide receivers.
06:46And to put seven or eight of them together and think that everybody is going to just kind
06:52of get along and make sense and be good teammates at a position that is complimentary and is
06:58not in charge of getting the ball to self and all of those things, I wonder what it's been
07:06like the last handful of years in that position room, putting all those personalities together.
07:13I'm betting it was more difficult than we realized.
07:15Absolutely.
07:16And I will refer to the stat that I came up with at the end of the year where the
07:2049ers
07:21ranked number 30 out of 32 in percentage of catches made by wide receivers.
07:27So it's an offense that doesn't use the receiver a lot.
07:30They had, I think only 40% of their catches went to wide receivers.
07:34They do two receiver sets a lot.
07:36So if you're not wide receiver one or two and you're third in Juwan, well, you're not going
07:41to get the target share that you probably want.
07:43And so it takes a certain individual to come into that room and do what they ask, which
07:48is block.
07:50You got to block to get the rock.
07:51And even when you block, we're not going to throw it a ton if things are going good,
07:55because we have this guy, Christian McCaffrey, and then we have George Kittle.
07:59And so, yeah, wide receivers, we love you and we're going to use you, but not like some
08:03of these high-flying, high-falutin teams.
08:05So just, I think the room in and of itself is a challenge based on the way Shanahan runs
08:11his offense.
08:12Kay Bueno in Oakland wants to weigh in.
08:14What's up, Kay Bueno?
08:15What you doing?
08:17Happy Monday, guys.
08:18Just going on 580 right here.
08:20Going to go pick up my son from my in-laws babysitting today.
08:23So I wanted to call you real fast before I got him in the car.
08:28And, yeah, look, I love what Lynch was saying there.
08:32You got to think about that.
08:34You know, now the guy that we have who's leading the receiver room, the pedigree of the leader
08:39down in the receiver room is the first ballot Hall of Famer.
08:42He's a pro's pro.
08:44And now you're talking about Christian Kirk, who's still got some, I think he's got plenty
08:48of gas in the tank to make a difference.
08:49But, yeah, you got Evans, who's the first ballot Hall of Famer, when it's all said and
08:53done.
08:54So that changes the whole dynamic of the leadership that's happening within the receiver room.
08:58And then, like you said, you got a bunch of young guys that are still waiting to see something
09:02from.
09:02So now we got, like you said, grown men that are leading that room who can really now set
09:08an example of who's got a career to look at, a resume to look at, and say, look, do as
09:12I do, and look at what I'm doing.
09:14And someone who can really, truly set an example for the other young receivers that we're waiting
09:19to see some results from still.
09:21So he's speaking facts, Lynch is.
09:24And it's not knocking who we had before.
09:26Love Jennings, third and Juwan.
09:29Always got to have love for him.
09:30The dude is a dog.
09:31Absolute dog.
09:32I think, you know, nothing I can't say, I'm sorry, it hasn't been said by everybody else.
09:37But it's just now, it just seems like a change of tone with getting Evans and Christian Kirk
09:42in there, and Evans as being the leading horse to kind of look at, okay, this is now our leader
09:46in the receiver room.
09:47This is the standard, not the standard so much, but this is what we're going to be, this is
09:53who we're following in the leadership now in terms of the receiver room.
09:56Here's the example.
09:58Okay, bueno, thanks.
09:58Like, I think the 49ers have maybe less of a tolerance than most organizations as far
10:08as this kind of behavior.
10:11Everybody falls into it.
10:12They're like, we're talking about organizations that have hundreds of people.
10:16Not everybody is going to be a perfect role model, but they have tried to subscribe to
10:22the no knuckleheads theory to the best of their ability.
10:26I mean, I just think that when they do accidentally stumble into it, especially when they stumble
10:31into it and then pay for it the way they did with Brandon Ayuk, they're almost prone to overreact
10:38to it.
10:39And I think that they did here.
10:41They overreacted to it, though, in a very, very good way.
10:44Like, they just rebuilt that entire, the only veteran, if you even want to call them that,
10:50that they're holding on to and moving forward with who's been a part of the plan over the
10:55last couple of seasons, is Ricky Pearsall.
10:57I know Robinson's in there as well.
10:59Right.
11:00I mean, look what you, like, Debo, Brandon, Juwan, even Kendrick Bourne comes in, doesn't
11:06get an offer.
11:06It's like, we're redoing that room.
11:10Incompletely.
11:11It's time to redo that house.
11:14Yeah.
11:15And I think they did it in a pretty intuitive way.
11:18And they're still in the midst of the redo because you've got Jacob Cowing, who either
11:23will be there or won't, and Jordan Watkins, who will get another chance to break through.
11:28Robinson will be there for just one more year.
11:30And so you've got Evans and you've got Kirk as your veterans.
11:33You probably are going to draft a receiver, hopefully not with that first round pick.
11:37I think you'll probably throw a pick at another receiver because that's kind of what you do
11:41and stuff.
11:42And so the room is still evolving, but you do have Mike Evans at the top.
11:47And I caution people on using the expression first ballot Hall of Famer because it doesn't
11:53really work like that in football.
11:54Terrell Owens was a second ballot Hall of Famer, but I think he will be a Hall of Famer.
11:58It's just a question of, of when, not if, but a lot of guys just don't get that first
12:03ballot designation.
12:03And it's the weird cockamamie way that football does it.
12:07I wouldn't be surprised if they called a wide receiver's name.
12:10I'd be shocked if they did it early.
12:12I do not think you're going to see that in, in the first round or anything like that.
12:17To me, you go into the draft, if there's room for a receiver, great.
12:21But to me, edge rusher, running back, offensive line.
12:29Those are the three things I think, and maybe safety, but I think those are the three things
12:35they're really sniffing around as they head into the draft.
12:38Interesting about running back because you look at last year and McCaffrey was 450 touches
12:43in the regular season and the postseason combined.
12:45And I don't know if they are really bothered by that.
12:49And you drafted a guy last year that you hope can be his, his understudy.
12:54Well, Kyle Shanahan did also speak and he sort of expressed, A, some regret that they didn't
13:00get Jordan James more involved.
13:02B, admitted that the level of work for McCaffrey is not sustainable.
13:07And C, they grabbed Brian Robinson and he got into their program and they assessed that there
13:15are a lot of Christian's plays that he couldn't run.
13:17Which is why they, A, didn't play him that much and B, let him go.
13:21So I think that they are looking for Jordan James to be a bigger part of this and probably
13:26add another running back who they think can run at least that skill set.
13:30Yeah.
13:31They've got Isaac Garendo who two years ago, he was able to run some of the plays that,
13:36you know, they needed him to run.
13:37The team was six and 11, so the stakes were lower.
13:39But I also wonder about his future with the team.
