00:01Hi there.
00:02England, Wales, Northern Ireland will by and large enjoy a drier spell during the rest
00:07of Wednesday as one band of rain and hill snow moves north before the next band of rain
00:12appears overnight.
00:14Here's the initial band of rain that moved north across the UK bringing some snow to
00:18places but slightly milder air is now arriving from the south and so the snow level tending
00:24to rise.
00:25A mix of rain and sleet at low levels for Shetland, snow over the hills, snow confined
00:29to the peaks of eastern Scotland, a damp day to come through the central belt, east and
00:35northern Scotland nevertheless with this strong southeast wind continuing to make it feel
00:40raw even if it is turning very slightly less cold as that snow level rises.
00:47Northern Ireland meanwhile, Northern England still seeing a lot of cloud cover, low cloud
00:52covering the hills and some spots of rain but not as persistently wet and further south it
00:58is actually drier.
00:59It's even in some places a little brighter.
01:01The cloud breaking up for parts of south Wales, central southern and south west England.
01:07Feeling milder in the south but still feeling cold elsewhere.
01:10Now we're going to see the next band of rain push spells of showery weather into the south
01:16overnight and a damp end to the night in the south of England, south Wales.
01:21Northern Ireland seeing a bit of rain arrive as well.
01:24Northern England and eastern Scotland continues to see this southeast wind and that will produce
01:30more rain as the night goes on especially over some of these east-facing hills.
01:36With colder air eventually arriving we'll see some snow over the peaks as well and of course
01:42the wind will keep widespread frost at bay even if it is a chilly start for many on Thursday
01:48away from the far south and south west.
01:52In the south and south west it's a wet start to the day because of the next low making appearance
01:57and once again this will push another band of rain or at least another two bands of rain
02:02in from the south and it's going to maintain the unsettled flavour in those areas where we
02:08don't want more rain.
02:09So yellow warning of force for the south and for parts of south Wales because it's going
02:14to be a very showery start to the day, some heavy bursts initially and then it dries off
02:18briefly before some heavier and more persistent rain arrives.
02:22For the evening rush hour there could be issues on the roads both during the morning and evening
02:26rush hour.
02:27Not a huge amount of rain, 10 to 20 and in some places 30 millimetres but of course on
02:31top of the saturated ground could cause some issues.
02:34It's also looking increasingly damp elsewhere.
02:36Northern Ireland, much of central and northern England seeing these outbreaks of rain arriving
02:40from the east on an increasingly strong easterly wind which will also bring colder weather
02:46back in so the snow level beginning to fall once more across northern parts of the UK.
02:51A couple of hundred metres elevation we'll see snow by the end of the day and the only
02:57place where we're likely to see prolonged drier and brighter weather, western Scotland.
03:01But it's going to feel cold for much of the UK, 4 to 6 Celsius away from the south and
03:08southwest where we'll continue to see double figures.
03:11Nevertheless, it's not going to feel mild in the south because of the heavy rain that
03:15we'll continue to see into Thursday evening and it all gets very messy as we end Thursday.
03:20Spells of persistent rain in places, hillsnow for the Peak District northwards, North Wales
03:25seeing a little bit of hillsnow as well.
03:29But western Scotland remains sheltered from the wet weather.
03:32It has been a very dry period for western Scotland of course.
03:36The rest of the UK, we don't want more rain.
03:38We are going to see more rain over the next few days.
