00:00The rain continues to fall for most of the UK today. We have a number of Met Office warnings in place, including an amber rain warning for parts of eastern Scotland.
00:10The view from space shows lines of cloud draped across the UK, old weather fronts that continue to bring the rain through the day.
00:18But also out in the Atlantic, a couple of active weather systems.
00:21This one's developing into what could be quite a nasty little area of low pressure, likely to bring some damaging winds and rain to parts of Portugal.
00:30The Portuguese Weather Service have named that as Storm Ingrid.
00:33It will bring us some wet and windy weather on Friday as well. More on that in a moment.
00:38First of all, let's get through today's rain because, as I said, there's plenty of it about continuing to feed into eastern Scotland.
00:45That's where the amber warning is as we go through the day, turning increasingly to snow over the hills.
00:50But a soggy day also for Northern Ireland, northeast England, pulses of heavy rain across Wales, southwest England.
00:56There's a couple of slots that may see something a bit drier at times, parts of North Wales, northwest England and the southwest of England too.
01:04But for most areas, it's cloudy and it's wet.
01:07The far northwest of Scotland may also do well with a bit of shelter from this brisk wind.
01:12But that wind in itself also brings some large waves to the coast of eastern Scotland and making for a pretty cold day in northeastern England.
01:21Now, the warnings are for rain today. We've got a yellow one for Northern Ireland, South Wales and parts of southwest England.
01:29A broad yellow rain warning covering central and eastern Scotland.
01:33And that amber embedded warning over the hills, we could see 100 to 150 millimetres of rain.
01:39As I said, turning increasingly to snow over the higher routes above about 400 metres.
01:45Not very pleasant for driving through with the strong winds also blowing that snow around.
01:50And also along the coast, those large waves that I mentioned.
01:54In that amber warning area, very real likelihood of some flooding as that rain continues to build up.
01:59So really consider where you need to travel if you're in that amber warning area through the rest of today.
02:04It's valid until six o'clock this evening.
02:06Temperature-wise, well, about average for the time of year, maybe a touch below.
02:09Certainly feeling colder, though, with that brisk wind across northeastern areas and the rain,
02:15which continues to fall in many places through the night.
02:17Should turn a little drier in the southwest as we go through the evening.
02:21Bands of rain tracking northwards, staying pretty gusty along those north sea coasts.
02:25The wind's whipping up in the southwest as well.
02:27We're going to see more rain coming in here through the early hours.
02:30After a brief drier spell, further rain, again, likely to cause some further flooding issues.
02:35And that rain in eastern Scotland turning increasingly to snow over the hills here.
02:41Temperature-wise, well, most places holding up four or five degrees above freezing.
02:44With some clearer skies in rural spots, we might just drop down to two or three, say, over parts of northern England and to north Wales.
02:51On to Friday.
02:52As I said, more rain to come.
02:54The winds whipping up in the southwest, a wind and rain warning in place for South Wales and southwest England for Friday.
03:01That rain warning remaining in place over eastern Scotland.
03:04Should be a drier day for Northern Ireland, a bit brighter here and for southern Scotland.
03:08We may even see some sunny spells coming through on the west coast of Scotland, again, sheltered by that brisk wind.
03:13Elsewhere, there'll be rain on and off with some drier and brighter spells at times.
03:18But generally, again, not a very pleasant day.
03:21And temperatures, again, roundabout, maybe a touch below average.
03:24Certainly feeling colder with the wind and the rain in the southwest.
03:27And again, that noticeable wind coming in from the North Sea, generating some large waves.
03:32Not a great deal of change as we go through Friday evening.
03:35So if you're heading out, again, be prepared for a lot of rain around.
03:38Continuing with the spray and surface water on the roads through Friday evening's rush hour,
03:43in particular in Wales and southwest England, ongoing flood risk in places also.
03:48Staying pretty showery as we go into the weekend too.
03:51Now, for more details on that, you'll want to watch our weekend video.
03:54That'll be available on our YouTube channel by Thursday afternoon.
03:57And for all of those warnings, do check them for yourself.
03:59See how you could be impacted.
04:01They're available on the Met Office website and app in full details.
