17 November - National Morning Forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good morning.
00:02A cold and crisp start to the day with a widespread frost overnight and it's certainly going to
00:07feel today like winter has come early.
00:10The good news is it should be mostly dry and bright for many of us, plenty of sunshine
00:14around, even wall-to-wall blue skies for many areas.
00:17Mostly dry though we can't rule out showers once again, just moving in around some north
00:22sea coasts.
00:23Mostly isolated but if we do see any showers, a good chance they could turn wintry, particularly
00:27across any high ground in Scotland, but even to the south of Scotland there could be some
00:31winteriness amongst the showers.
00:33For most though, dry, settled, lots of sunshine, though it is going to be feeling cold.
00:38We'll see highs between 9 to 10 degrees across parts of the south, elsewhere the mid to low
00:43single figures, but in those brisk northerly winds it is going to be feeling much chillier.
00:49Across Aberdeenshire for example, feeling more like freezing.
00:54Going through into the evening, remaining cold, plenty of clear skies to start, so temperatures
00:59soon dipping away as soon as the sun goes down and it's likely we'll see another patchy
01:03frost.
01:04But a slightly different story across parts of Scotland.
01:06We do need to keep an eye on these showers moving through into the north west, these merging
01:11into longer spells of rain and obviously they're falling into some quite cold air, so it's likely
01:16that we'll see some snow by the time we reach Tuesday morning.
01:20So a very cold start to the day once again, some patchy frost, particularly across England
01:25and Wales, and it's likely that we'll see some snow start to fall mainly to hills, but
01:30also possibly through the day falling to lower levels and not only this, but we're really
01:34going to start to see those winds strengthen, particularly across Scotland.
01:39So a chance of gales, some coastal gales as this area of low pressure drifts into the
01:43north sea.
01:44And with snow as well, there's a good chance we could see some blizzard conditions.
01:48So a very unsettled day across Scotland.
01:51Do keep an eye out for any Met Office weather warnings issued over the coming days.
01:56Elsewhere, there will be more cloud around, also some showers and these too still could
02:00bring some winteriness mainly across hills.
02:03Across the far south and southeast though, mostly dry, though it's likely that we'll see
02:07more cloud.
02:08And there's still fairly brisk winds around, even away from Scotland, so still feeling cold.
02:13Highs reaching around eight to nine degrees, a little higher across the far southwest.
02:21Then into next week, we do need to keep an eye on a couple of things.
02:24It's still going to be cold, so we need to keep an eye out for frost and also the risk
02:29of ice through the overnight period.
02:31There will be some brighter interludes, some sunshine, but it is going to feel cold still
02:36in those winds.
02:37It's quite a noticeable wind chill and also we do just need to keep an eye out for any
02:41more snow coming in next week.
