25 November - National afternoon forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, if you like your weather crisp and bright at this time of year, well you'll enjoy
00:05Tuesday afternoon because there'll be plenty of sunshine across the United Kingdom. It
00:09won't be completely sunny and dry for everyone. Although a ridge of high pressure is moving
00:14in, we've still got low pressure departing the scene and we've got this North Sea breeze
00:20bringing showers into the east of England and some parts of northern Scotland, one or
00:25two showers also funnelling down the Irish Sea coast into parts of Pembrokeshire and Cornwall.
00:32But these are the exceptions for many places away from the immediate coastal exposed parts.
00:38It's going to be a sunny afternoon and with winds lighter compared with the last few days,
00:42feeling perfectly pleasant. Temperatures not far from average, not as cold as the northerly
00:48wind that we had last week, but eight degrees in the south, six degrees further north,
00:53feeling a little chilly in places. And then as we go into the evening, those temperatures fall away
00:59very quickly under clear skies. Once the sun goes down with those light winds, a widespread frost
01:04forming for many, but not for all because we do have some cloud thickening across western Scotland
01:10and Northern Ireland. So temperatures here actually rising through the night, likewise for West Wales
01:14and Cornwall frost free. But where we've got the clear skies throughout the night, temperatures
01:19dipping as low as minus four to minus six Celsius in sheltered spots. Then a marked contrast,
01:25north-west to south-east as we begin Wednesday. Plenty of sunshine after a chilly start in the south-east,
01:30but cloud and rain topples in from the north-west. Outbreaks of rain on and off for many western
01:35parts continuing through the day. A freshening breeze, fairly windy in the north and west of Scotland,
01:41and some heavy rain for the north-west Highlands at times as well as the Northern Isles. But that rain is
01:46moving through, albeit slowly. A fine day for the south-east, staying chilly here, but milder as that
01:53rain pushes in further west and it only slowly arrives into the south-east as we end Wednesday
02:00as a weakening feature. That then moves through and the rest of the week is dominated by this large
02:06area of low pressure and that's going to switch the winds to south-westerlies, bringing much milder air
02:11than we've experienced until recently really, until the start of last week. So marked contrast on
02:19Thursday as we go through the day with outbreaks of rain in places, but also temperatures back
02:24widely into the double figures.
