16 November - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good afternoon. Last week it was mild, wet and windy. This week it's going
00:05to be totally different. More sunshine, yes, but some much colder temperatures. Why is
00:11this? Well, it's all thanks to some very cold air plunging all the way down from the
00:15Arctic and spreading its way southwards across the country. Not only this, but some very
00:19blustery winds which are really going to add on to the wind chill, possibly even bring
00:23us some wintry showers, something we do need to keep an eye on as we head towards Tuesday.
00:28Some showers, perhaps some more organised bands of rain pushing into the northwest, falling
00:33into colder air. So a chance we could see some more significant snow, mainly in the northwest,
00:38mostly across hills, but potentially to lower levels. Before we talk about that though, I
00:42do just want to reverse the clock and of course talk about this afternoon, where most of us
00:48will eventually start to see some sunshine, but there will still be plenty of cloud, mostly
00:52across southern counties. For many of us though, that cloud will be clearing away, allowing
00:57plenty of bright, if not sunny spells. Mostly dry, though still we can't rule out some showers,
01:03mostly moving into north sea coasts. These may be wintry, mainly across high ground in
01:07Scotland. It is going to be feeling much chillier for all though. Highs still reaching between
01:1211 to 12 degrees Celsius across the south, but mostly in the mid to high single figures elsewhere.
01:19And really, that wind chill is going to make things feel a lot colder. Through into the
01:25evening, there will be widespread clear skies. So temperatures are soon going to drop away.
01:30Quite a widespread frost across the country and some possible icy stretches. We actually
01:35got down to minus 7 degrees Celsius across Scotland last night, and it's likely we'll see
01:40similar temperatures through the course of this evening. So quite a widespread frost across
01:44Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern parts of England. A more patchy frost across Wales,
01:48central and southern parts of England. But it should remain mostly frost free across the
01:53south east. Mostly dry too, though still once again, plenty of showers feeding into those
01:58eastern coasts. So a chilly start to Monday, but the good news is once again it should be
02:04mostly dry with lots of sunshine, wall to wall, blue skies for many areas. Still once again
02:10around those eastern coasts, we could see some showers, still perhaps turning wintry across hills,
02:15mainly in Scotland. Well, once again, we're going to see some very brisk northerly winds,
02:20which is going to add on to the wind chill once more. So temperatures will be down by a degree or two,
02:26highs reaching around 8 to 9 degrees Celsius. But if we add on that wind chill, it is going to be
02:31feeling much chillier than that. So more like freezing, for example, across parts of Aberdeenshire.
02:36So a cold day, but mostly dry with clear skies, and it will remain that way through the course
02:42of the evening. Once again, it's likely we'll see another widespread frost and a risk of ice.
02:47More clouds starting to fill the skies across Scotland, and then it is just this system in
02:52the northwest which we need to keep an eye on. Some showers, longer spells of rain falling into
02:56that colder air, so a chance we could see some more significant spells of snow, mostly across
03:01Scotland and parts of the northwest. Nevertheless, though, there is a chance we could see some
03:06Met Office warnings into next week. But of course, for more information on that, don't forget
