15 November - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good afternoon.
00:02Quite a murky start this morning, some drizzle and also some fog in places.
00:06Away from Scotland though, where there was plenty of sunshine, but is there more sunshine
00:10on the way for everyone else?
00:12Well, yesterday there was very little sunshine, heavy outbreaks of rain, all thanks to storm
00:16cloudier, now sitting just to the north-west of Spain.
00:20And it does still leave behind plenty of cloud, some rain and drizzle.
00:24And because high pressure sits to the north, that means the cloud and the rain can't really
00:28move anywhere, but eventually it does start to sink its way southwards as arctic air takes
00:34hold, pushing south across the country and really drying out the air, so there will be
00:38more sunshine, but with it some cold temperatures, some frost as we head into next week and possibly
00:43even a sprinkling of snow.
00:45But before we talk about next week, let's reverse the clock and talk about the weekend, where
00:50for most it's going to remain rather murky.
00:53Still plenty of cloud across much of England and Wales, this cloud still thick enough to
00:58produce some drizzle.
00:59Particularly across Northern Ireland, across the Welsh hills, also the Pennines, there could
01:03be some quite persistent spells of drizzle at times, perhaps some breaks in the cloud
01:07across the south later this afternoon, but for most it's going to remain fairly cloudy.
01:13Across Scotland though, a very different story, much brighter here with some sunny spells, but
01:17it is going to be feeling chillier.
01:19Elsewhere though, feeling fairly cold under cloudy skies, but across the south there's still
01:23plenty of mild air, so highs still reaching around 15 degrees Celsius, so well above average
01:28for the time of year.
01:30Now into the evening across Scotland, as soon as that sun goes down it is going to be turning
01:34chilly here, likely quite a widespread frost across many areas of Scotland.
01:39The cloud will start to clear across Northern Ireland, northern parts of England, so once
01:43again turning colder here as we progress through into Sunday morning.
01:46But for many areas of the south, Wales and central England, there's still plenty of cloudy skies
01:52which will keep temperatures up, but across the northern half of the country, a few areas
01:56dipping below freezing, particularly across Scotland, where we are expecting a frosty start
02:00to Sunday.
02:02Now the good news is, it is going to be brightening up for many of us, this cloud eventually sinking
02:07towards the south, so more sunshine across Wales, northern and central parts of England,
02:12though the cloud will linger across many southern counties.
02:16Mostly dry and bright for many areas, though some showers will scoot across Scotland, perhaps
02:20some north sea coasts, bringing perhaps a sprinkling of snow across the Scottish Highlands.
02:26But for most, a much sunnier end to the weekend, feeling much chillier though, particularly in the
02:31brisk northerly winds around any north sea coasts, though temperatures more towards average
02:36for this time in November.
02:39Now, when those brisk winds, we do need to keep an eye on the windchill temperatures because
02:44for many areas, particularly around Scotland, any north sea coasts, despite temperatures being
02:48more towards average for the time of year, it is actually going to be feeling more like
02:52the mid to low single figures for many areas.
02:54So in any exposed spots, it is going to be feeling much chillier on Sunday.
02:59And once again, as soon as that sun goes down, feeling cold for many areas, quite a widespread
03:04frost once again across Scotland, perhaps even northern areas of England.
03:08Oh, some frost possible, patchy frost across central areas of England, parts of Wales in
03:12the south.
03:13Away from the southeast, though, a little bit more cloud here and still that brisk wind around
03:17north sea coasts, which will keep temperatures up a little bit.
03:20Nevertheless, on Monday into the new working week, it is going to be feeling much chillier
03:25for all.
03:26And that's the theme as we head into next week, more frost, also a risk of ice, perhaps even
03:31some snow.
