07 October - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good afternoon.
00:02High pressure is the name of the game this week, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's
00:06going to remain dry.
00:07We've already had some spells of rain across Scotland, Northern Ireland.
00:11This is now sinking its way southwards into southern parts of Scotland, northern England
00:15and Wales.
00:16It should be mostly light rain, possibly drizzle, but it could persist through much of the afternoon.
00:21To the north of this, an improvement in conditions, some sunny spells returning, though a chance
00:24we could see occasional showers, particularly around coasts of Scotland.
00:28To the south of this system, remaining mostly dry, though it's likely to be a cloudier
00:32afternoon compared to what we saw yesterday.
00:34There will be some brighter, if not sunny spells in that cloud at times, and where we see those,
00:39it should remain warm, highs reaching 18, possibly 19 degrees Celsius in the southeast.
00:45Now through the course of the evening, we'll continue to see this system sink its way southwards,
00:49still bringing quite a lot of clouds, some quite low clouds, possibly some foggy conditions
00:53at times, and also some light rain and drizzle, particularly around hills of Wales through
00:57the overnight period.
00:58But to the north, plenty of clear skies, so temperatures soon dipping away here, a chance
01:03of some mist and fog, and possibly some isolated frost.
01:06A slightly different story across Scotland, though, we'll see a return of the cloud, some
01:10more showers, if not longer spells of rain here, and quite breezy once again across coasts
01:14of Scotland.
01:15So the main risk of frost is going to be across northern England, possibly across Northern Ireland,
01:19if we see any breaks in the cloud.
01:20And it's set to be chillier here, but to the south, a slightly milder night due to all the
01:24cloud and drizzly outbreaks.
01:26And this picture is fairly similar through the course of the day.
01:30Once again, we'll continue to see that system slowly sink its way southwards, but it's generally
01:34a weakening feature, so it's more likely to bring in any cloud, possibly some drizzle,
01:38once again, mainly around hilly areas.
01:40And it should be mostly dry across the country, a return of the sunshine across central parts of
01:45England and Wales.
01:46But once again, across Scotland, more cloud here, some showers, quite blustery, and it's
01:51likely these showers will merge into longer spells of quite persistent rain across the far
01:55north.
01:56So quite a different story across Scotland, but elsewhere, it should be a mostly pleasant
01:59afternoon.
02:00Highs once again reaching around 17, 18, possibly 19 degrees Celsius, where we see the sunshine
02:06stick around.
02:07And the clear skies are here to stay, once again, a bit of a flip in conditions.
02:11So across the south, that's where we'll see the clearest of skies through the evening.
02:14So temperatures soon dipping away as soon as the sun goes down, a chance as we head towards
02:19dawn as we head through into Thursday, a chance of mist and fog, and also some isolated frost.
02:25Once again, the cloud and spells of rain sticking around across Scotland.
02:29After that, we have high pressure once again re-establishing itself from the west, slowly
02:33pushing its way eastwards as we head towards the end of the week and into the weekend.
02:37Across the northern flank at times, some systems will push in, so once again, more cloud, possibly
02:41some spells of rain across Scotland.
02:43But for the bulk of the country, conditions do look like they're set to remain dry and
02:47settled.
