00:00That's the race for the win. McElrath on the very inside. He needs to drop the hammer on that Honda
00:07and try to knock Hansteen out of the number one position. That's what it's going to take to be
00:14dancing. Yeah, for sure. There he is. Reigning champion. Have you seen anything that he can do
00:22differently in his technique? Starting was one of your keys. No, I mean, it's hard to say from here.
00:27They're starting on the metal grates, the metal starting pads. And, you know, right now there's a bit of moisture coming up.
00:35And you wonder if that metal isn't a little bit slippery because of that. But he's already executed two.
00:43So now hopefully he can execute this third one and make it close at the end.
00:49Guys visualizing what they want to do, right, Jeff? That's one of the things they're going through right now,
00:53running the start through their mind. Yeah, it really is. It becomes like a funnel.
00:57Where you have all these distractions. And as you get closer to the gate drop, you just start to block
01:03everything out. Colin Park there to the right side of Hansteen. He has a different technique there than
01:10the 43. He is getting himself hyped up. I like to breathe and calm down. Park is going the opposite
01:18direction with it. Hey, whatever works for you. Do it now because you've got 15 seconds till we drop the
01:24gate. And the main event for SX2 here in Buenos Aires about to get underway. Focus. Get ready. Grab
01:34a handful of throttle. Drop the clutch. Here we go.
01:37Ansteen on the inside cuts across the field to try to take the lead and does so. But McElrath is right
01:47there on the one. The battle for the win is underway between two former champions.
01:51Well, this is the battle that we needed to see to see if somebody can beat Ansteen here tonight. He's been
01:57perfect. If there's anyone that can do it, it's the number one of Shane McElrath on the Quad
02:03Lock Honda. Ansteen from the UK. McElrath out of North Carolina. Here they come. Fighting their way out.
02:09Is that Enzo Lopes, I believe, sitting in third right now in the 16. The rider out of Brazil. And that's going to get this crowd on their feet as well.
02:19Cody Schock, his teammate on that Arby's Ric Ware Racing Yamaha is at fourth.
02:23Colon Park. Yeah, right there in the 43th. And how about Peters on the 110. Kyle Peters and Cole Thompson on those Venom Bud racing cowies having a good run here early.
02:34And the first start would be Michael Hicks running back in eighth. His teammate Lance Cobush back in 14.
02:41McElrath has got to keep the pressure on Ansteen. And Ansteen is inching away right now, Jeff. Not pulling away. Inching away.
02:50Inching away. But remember, I'm pretty sure that McElrath had the fastest single lap in each of the first two races.
02:59Well, he's certainly capable of it. That's for sure.
03:06Here's a look at your top three, four, and fifth. Third, fourth, and fifth.
03:14And then it's Peter Thompson-Hicks, Chisholm, and Wageman back to top ten.
03:21Just trying to take a look as the riders are coming through that whoops section there, the bike sliding all around.
03:28It was interesting. Some of the comments that we heard from the post-race interviews from the riders is how slippery the track is getting, especially in the whoops section.
03:36Viney back here at the tail end of the field struggling on the 39.
03:40Here comes McElrath right at you, the lobes, and then shock, Cody on the 69.
03:50Yeah, just back there, you're going to see a couple of green bikes.
03:53That's going to be Cole Thompson, the number two, that Venom, Bud Racing Kawasaki, and his teammate, Kyle Peters, both running sixth and seventh.
04:02And Jeff, you know, we've talked a lot about Team GSM, Quad Lock Honda, and of course Venom and Moto Concepts, but this Arby's Rick Ware Racing team came in here.
04:12They've been really, really strong in both categories, but certainly here in SX2.
04:17Yeah, and this year they have the entire team riding Yamahas.
04:22There's a little bit of strategy to that as far as extra parts and stuff that are in the travel cases, but two very strong riders.
04:30And with Lopes right here running third, he's trying to get to the inside, not quite enough.
04:37Now that's what Shane McElrath doesn't need is pressure from Lopes.
04:43He needs to be able to focus on Max Anstey, who's out front, pulled away 2.1 seconds.
04:49That's going to make it much easier for Anstey to ride his own race and not have to worry about McElrath.
04:56Here's your live points, Jeff, at the bottom of the screen.
04:58As they run right now, Anstey would have the overall.
05:04Getting close to the halfway point in this, and McElrath is definitely losing ground to the 99.
05:09In fact, if he's not careful, he's going to lose a spot like that to Anzo Lopes.
05:14He takes him way wide, and Lopes has to fall back in line to third.
05:17Ralph, I thought Lopes was going to go around the outside of McElrath at the end of the whoops.
05:24McElrath stayed in there and made a really aggressive block on Lopes to keep him from taking that spot.
05:30That was about as good of a defensive line as you could run.
05:33Oh, he makes a big mistake right there. McElrath starting to slide around.
05:37Well, we heard the track is getting very slippery out there tonight.
05:41A lot of moisture in the air. McElrath finding out all about it.
05:44Here comes Lopes again. Now cutting back inside.
05:47Great move by Enzo Lopes to listen to the Brazilian crowd go crazy.
05:50A lot of Brazilian fans here tonight, and their guy is now finding himself in second.
05:56Let's see if Enzo can run down Max Anstey.
06:01Enzo Lopes is the fastest rider from South America, I think, ever, and certainly here in our championship.
06:09And it's taken him a little bit to sort of get the wheels turning here tonight.
06:14But now in race three, final race of the night, Lopes has found his group.
06:18Now I'm wondering, can Lopes reel in Anstey? Anstey's 5.3 seconds out.
06:25Oh, big bobble by Enzo Lopes, and McElrath tries to get back inside, and he will.
06:32They come out of that corner into the rhythm lane, and Anstey will lead with McElrath back into second.
06:38Look at the train of riders behind McElrath.
06:41You got Lopes, Shock, Park, and Thompson right there at the tail end.
06:46I mean, McElrath, the rating champion, he's got his hands full.
06:50He makes one mistake. He could lose four or five places.
06:53Yeah, right now.
06:54In a hurry.
06:55I mean, look at that. You got four riders on one part of the rhythm section.
06:59One jump.
07:02Here comes Lopes.
07:03Looking through the whoops.
07:05Good roll.
07:06Hang on, Enzo.
07:07Oh, into the tough blocks he goes.
07:09He'll get back on track just in front of Thompson.
07:12So Lopes lost at least two, maybe three positions.
07:16Wow, and he hit those tough blocks straight on.
07:19And instead of the front tire rolling over the tough blocks and throwing Lopes down,
07:25the tough block kind of bounces off.
07:27Watch the replay right here.
07:28Oh, he gets the hops back forth.
07:29Now watch right here.
07:30He hits the tough block and pushes him out of the way.
07:33That's as lucky as any rider is going to get.
07:36Yeah.
07:37Cutting through four tough blocks right there.
07:39That was not technique.
07:40That was purely luck.
07:41That was luck.
07:42Yeah.
07:43Here's the points as we run again.
07:45McElrath.
07:46Shock.
07:47Park.
07:48Lopes.
07:49That's your top five in the points.
07:50I mean, 45 is perfect on the night.
07:52Plus, Anstey won Super Bowl.
07:54Boy.
07:55Look at that.
07:56Look at that.
07:57He's got the whole whoop section.
07:58That whole straightaway lead.
07:59And seven laps down of 12.
08:02He just started lapping.
08:04Anstey in total control.
08:05All I know is we need to find out what kind of tea he's drinking.
08:08Yeah.
08:09I need some of that.
08:10What's the tea called here that you were out there?
08:13Met tea.
08:14Met tea.
08:15The Gauchos drink on the Met tea.
08:17Which is like a really aggressive herbal green tea.
08:22They drink it all day.
08:24Well, getting aggressive right now.
08:26I think Colin Park and Cody Shock, they've got a really good battle going right now.
08:33Shock is third.
08:34Park is fourth.
08:35Lopes has had a pretty exciting couple of laps.
08:39He's got to let us or try to get his heart rate down a little bit and finish this race off.
08:44That was a huge break for Shane McElrath with, what, four laps to go now.
08:49Yeah.
08:50But you see Shock, he's finally found his best ride of the day.
08:56Yep.
08:57Here at the last part of race three.
09:00And he's right there on McElrath.
09:03He's got his hands full.
09:04Yeah, he is.
09:05He's closing.
09:06McElrath and Shock are two of the riders that I would have said, okay, pick, you know,
09:13three riders that you think are going to be there at the end of this championship.
09:17And Steve McElrath and Shock would have been in my top three.
09:21Cody Shock, 28 years old out of Dover, Delaware.
09:24Not exactly a hot spot for supercross racers, Jeff, but he might be the fastest guy ever out of Dover, Delaware.
09:32He was second in this class in the 2024 points.
09:36So this year looking to be champion is Cody Shock as he rides for Rick Ware.
09:42Yeah, just looking ahead there, just trying to read Shane McElrath's body language.
09:47Just doesn't have the flow, this moto.
09:50He looks a little bit, like, just uncomfortable, like he's fighting it.
09:54Yeah, like, even right there through the whoops, Shock closed right up on him.
09:58And Park is right there, too.
10:00Just a couple laps to go.
10:01Shane is in a position right now where catching Anstey probably not going to happen.
10:06What he has to do is not allow the rest of them to get by him.
10:10He needs to minimize the damage in the points.
10:13Yeah, that's a great way to put it.
10:15And another ride, if you look down our leaderboard to Cole Thompson, number two on that Kawasaki,
10:22he's been pretty solid all night, giving him something to build on as we just get this championship underway.
10:33Cody Shock with 44 career AMA 250 Supercross starts to his credit.
10:43Finished third in the 250 East Championship in 2024 back in the States on the AMA Tour.
10:54Anstey just out front doing his thing all night long.
10:57Just it's like he was alone during Super Bowl.
11:01And it's almost like he's been out there just riding Super Bowl, Super Bowl laps in all three of these races.
11:08He has been absolutely perfect, untouchable.
11:12Just perfect through here, just got a couple about a lap and a half to go.
11:23He's made zero, zero mistakes all night long.
11:27Yeah, he really has been just about perfect.
11:31Here's that battle for second.
11:33McElrath, the reigning champion, still holding on.
11:36Shock not giving him any rest.
11:38And Colen Park, what great rides he's put in all night too.
11:43This could go either way here for the podium.
11:49Shock is really quick through the whoops.
11:55Final lap.
11:56McElrath has to hang on for one more lap here in Buenos Aires and minimize the points.
12:01Loss.
12:03But Cody Shock has other things in mind as he pushes hard on McElrath.
12:07Here we go.
12:08Looking inside here.
12:09That could be the move.
12:10He's got him for now.
12:11Can McElrath answer back?
12:13Here he comes.
12:14Great drive through this rhythm lane.
12:16And McElrath finds himself back into second all of a sudden.
12:19Oh, Shock had the move made.
12:21Oh, here he's got it.
12:22He triples.
12:23He's got it.
12:24He didn't get it quite as smooth as he wanted.
12:26So McElrath can counter.
12:28Fans come to their feet here in Buenos Aires.
12:31And now Shock starts to pull away.
12:33And McElrath is under pressure again.
12:35This time by Park.
12:37But here comes Anstey.
12:39Max Anstey will get his third overall win in his career in World Supercross as he lights
12:45the candles here in Buenos Aires.
12:48He also picks up his 12th race win.
12:51Park is down.
12:52Yeah.
12:53Park is down.
12:54Shock will get second.
12:55McElrath should find himself in third.
12:58He does.
12:59And then it's Thompson, Lopes, and the rest of the field as they come across, including
13:06Kyle Chisholm on the number 11, who should be credited with ninth.
13:13That was a really exciting last lap.
13:16We just missed out of the back of the screen what happened with Cullen Park.
13:20I have a feeling he didn't fall on his own.
13:23I think he might have got a little help, Ralphie.
13:27A little aggressiveness here.
13:29Opening round.
13:30Max Anstey came to Buenos Aires.
13:33And boy, did he just crush it.
13:38It's his third career overall win in the World Supercross competition.
13:43Picks up his 12th race win.
13:46He got race wins 10, 11, and 12 here tonight as he absolutely sweeps the day.
13:54Yeah, that's that combination and what Anstey showed us of where he's at in his program right
14:03now.
14:04The other team's got some work to do.
14:06Oh, boy.
14:07Yeah.
14:08The 23 SX2 champ making a statement, planting the flag.
14:11He's going to be one to deal with here in 2025.
14:16Sure looks like the fans enjoying that one.
14:23Well, let's hear more from the winner, Max Anstey.
14:26Here's Kristen.
14:27Max, an incredible night in your World Supercross series return.
14:34How did you find your consistency?
14:37Well, I just executed the start.
14:40It was a crazy night.
14:42Nice to be here in Argentina.
14:43Thank you, guys.
14:44I had a lot of fun.
14:46Cheers.
14:47Awesome to be here in South America.
14:49The fans are amazing.
14:50You know, every time I come here, I've been here for a couple of GPs back in the day.
14:55And man, the fans in Argentina are the best in the world.
14:58So thank you, guys.
15:10Moving down the line, we now have Shane McElrath.
15:11Shane, describe to me the intensity necessary to finish on the podium here tonight.
15:14I know it wasn't as easy as a night as you may have had in years past.
15:17You really had to work for this one for a second place finish.
15:20Yeah.
15:21Praise the Lord.
15:22It was a lot of work tonight.
15:25A lot harder than it should have been.
15:27I mean, we came in really prepared.
15:29But we still got work to do.
15:31So, yeah, the Quad La Conda team, we've been putting in a lot of time.
15:35And we're going to get back to it.
15:36And we'll be back next weekend in Canada.
15:38But, yeah, we're going to be back.
15:41It was some hard racing tonight.
15:43The track was really technical.
15:46There wasn't a lot of lines, but they were really slippery.
15:49So, yeah, we'll be back.
15:51Shane, well done.
15:53And third overall on the night, Cody Schock.
15:57These are the kind of nights that make champions.
16:01That was a showcase ride for you.
16:04What was that final race like?
16:06That was everything.
16:08I mean, I missed my first qualifying session because of a bike issue.
16:12Not the team's fault.
16:13It's dirt bikes.
16:14Things fail.
16:15And I had the second practice and qualifying.
16:20I qualified sixth.
16:21But then I failed sound.
16:22And there's a five-position penalty, which I don't agree with.
16:26I feel like we need to review the rules a little bit.
16:28So I had 11th gate pick all night.
16:31And it sucked.
16:32But I struck with my starts.
16:34But on that last one, I finally figured it out and came out, like, wow.
16:38Really, I was neck and neck with Max.
16:40And he had the inside.
16:41But that was a much better ride for me.
16:43I'm really proud of my whoops tonight.
16:45That was huge.
16:47That's been a big building block for me.
16:50So, yeah, we'll go back to club next with Rick Ware and get back to work.
16:55And that will round out your top three in the SX2 class.
17:00A lot more racing to come here tonight in Buenos Aires.
17:06All right, Kristen.
17:08Great to hear from the guys as they get ready for Vancouver now and BC Place.
17:12We'll take a quick look at the SX2 main event highlights as this one got underway.
17:17The start, Max Anstey got pressured quickly by Shane McElrath who really hugged the inside of the corner there.
17:24Came right up after Max into this rhythm lane.
17:29And then that was pretty much it as far as everybody starting to inch away from the rest of the field.
17:37Max just started to gap them a little bit.
17:39And that gap group more and more.
17:42Good fights back in the field though.
17:44Enzo Lopes really putting the pressure on McElrath here.
17:48Enzo would have his issues right here.
17:51He would end up fighting back to finish fifth on the night for Rick Ware.
17:56So the Arby's Rick Ware racing team goes second with Cody Schock.
18:00Sixth or fifth I should say with Enzo Lopes.
18:03Shane McElrath on his Quadlock Honda racing machine.
18:07Comes home in third for Yariv Khonski.
18:11As they look to be one of the top teams fighting for team championships this year.
18:20There goes Cody Schock by for Ware.
18:23And the candles get lit by Max Anstey, the rider out of the UK.
18:29The former champion from 23, the points leader in 25.
18:45Well, Jeff, that was a pretty incredible race three of the 250s at one point.
18:49You said there was four riders I think on one jump.
18:51There was contact.
18:52And you asked, was there a little help for Cullen Park?
18:55He did get a little help from Shane McElrath in that last corner.
18:58Yeah, because you were right here.
18:59Oh, yeah.
19:00Literally the turn.
19:01Like right there.
19:02That was it.
19:03So who got into him?
19:05Shane did not want to give up the spot.
19:07Let's just put it that way.
19:08And he gave him a little nudge.
19:09Cullen Park came off.
19:10He played some pretty good defense, they say.
19:12Very good defense.
19:14But hey, it's a championship.
19:15You're trying to get those points.
19:16And Cullen Park was riding great.
19:18You also don't want to let a guy get momentum on you.
19:20And Cullen Park's been good today.
19:21So, yeah.
19:22Heavy defense.
19:23Was there words afterward?
19:24No, Cullen came off and was definitely frustrated.
19:27Pulled a tear off really aggressively.
19:28I think he was just frustrated with the moment because he also had a great race.
19:31I mean, in that battle, Cody Schott got a lot of the attention in that battle because
19:35of the way he was left, right, looking for something, finally got it.
19:38A great ride for him.
19:39But Cullen was right there in the shadows the entire time.
19:42And then he was not rewarded for his efforts.
19:45Yeah, I think Cullen Park rode fantastic all day.
19:48Moto Concepts, Mike Genova and the team have to be really happy with that.
19:53They've got something to work with, right?
19:55He improves his starts.
19:58He'll be a solid podium contender.
20:00He's got some podiums before in some races.
20:03But I think it was a real statement tonight of where his program's at.
20:06Max Anstey, program's on lock.
20:08I mean, he was absolutely incredible.
20:10And grabbed the win there.
20:12Shane McElrath, Cody Schott 2-3.
20:14Cody Schott 2-3.
21:03Amen, amen.
21:07Amen.
