00:0030 minutes or an hour ago and so he is now last gate pick all the way up to the riders outside
00:06and that's going to be a massive disadvantage for the rookie who's riding the 450 for the first time
00:11in his career. A lot of expectations out of this young man. And he's going to have to start every
00:16one of these three races tonight from that gate. You see the countdown clock. 30 second board is
00:21up. It's going to turn sideways and she's going to exit the racetrack and we're going to get
00:25underway. You see Anderson to the far right. Ken Roxton right next to the doghouse just to the
00:29right of it. Here we go. Getting set. The first race for the 450s of the 2025 season about to get
00:39underway. Deegan with a big slide coming out of the gate. Terrible start for him. Roxton goes right to
00:47the front but he's got challenges up the inside. A couple of riders down there at Chaos Corner. Here
00:53goes Roxton. Best thing he can do Jeff is get out front and set a pace he can stay with. Yeah set a
00:59pace that he can sustain and just not have that pressure of having guys like battling you to
01:04where it really wears him out. Oh we got more riders down. Christian Craig is right behind him in
01:09second place. Is that Anderson? Anderson. Yes Anderson. El Hombre is now making his debut in this
01:15championship. I believe that was Devin Simonson and possibly Ryan Brees down in the first turn.
01:22Caught a glimpse of Joey Savace. Looks like he is sitting in fourth right now on the 17 in the black
01:27riding gear. So the far right through the whoops there. Timing and scoring has Vince Friese on the
01:34start. Dead last 16th. His teammate. Yeah I think he got knocked down Jeff. Yeah. Jorge Zaragoza the rider out of
01:42Spain. Here's the reflex. Okay watch the 917. 719 is freezing. Oh the bike. Oh he got caught. He got caught by the bike and there he goes. Oh there he is. Yep. Right there. That's what took Vince to the back. No problem though for Kid Rockson. No Rockson doing a great job right now. The former world champion.
02:03Christian Craig.
02:04Christian Craig. Joey Savace. Second and third. Both on the Quadlock Honda. And we talked to Yariv Konski. The team owner of this Quadlock Honda team. And they brought on Christian Craig to join Joey Savace. They have big hopes for both riders. Especially in the team competition. Here's Deegan right here. And he is digging. Hayden Deegan up to eighth on his
02:33Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing Bike. And that Jeff is a tremendous ride as we catch a glimpse of Justin Cooper right here on the 32. Coop is up to eighth. He's right behind Deegan on his matching Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing Bike. Two wild cards. Deegan already up to sixth. Zaragoza is right in front of him. That's who he's chasing right now. There they are coming at you. And Justin Cooper. Not a great start for him but certainly one of the riders being a wild card.
03:03That you really feel like has the speed and the talent to compete for the win. All right Jeff. Let's watch Hayden Deegan here on that 38. The blue machine battling. Trying to get around Zaragoza on the start. That's an electric bike just in front of him. And he's got his teammate Cooper coming up to the inside. So let's watch his race craft on the 450 Jeff. You've seen him a bunch on the 250. How's he doing here? As he closes in on Zaragoza on the outside.
03:33The word is that the start. If it does have a little disadvantage is that it doesn't get across the whoops as good as the internal combustion engines.
03:43But how is Deegan doing adjusting to the 450? You like his style as he gets around Zaragoza here?
03:49Oh he was riding in practice today. He was riding a 450 like it was a 250. He was revving the thing out. Hitting the rev limiter. I mean I think it was second round of practice. He was fastest. I mean this is a lot more bike. Right? There's 200 cc's more displacement.
04:07And Cooper gets around Zaragoza now too. So they're now going to move up. Both of them. They will be running 6th and 7th. Deegan and Cooper here.
04:17And look at this lead for Kit Roxson. 4.2 seconds over Christian Craig. Savace about 3 seconds behind Craig. Matt Mosty, Australian, still running 4th.
04:29I love what I love seeing out of Deegan right now Jeff. He is really flowing. You can see him doing the big whips coming over the finish line jump. He is into it.
04:36Oh blasted the turns. Just tough blocks flying everywhere. He's having fun isn't he?
04:42Yeah he's just that type of kid. He's 19 years old. He's having the time of his life. You know this is the first time that Hayden Deegan has ever been out of the United States.
04:51Yeah. Ever. First time out of the country. Yeah. Really had a big time over here. Taking in the site he has been. Like the Beatles going on tour.
04:59Oh here's Justin Cooper. Here he comes inside of his teammate.
05:02Now Hayden's going to have to figure out how to get back around him.
05:07But Jeff this is one of the things they wanted him to experience in his development.
05:12Get out there. Run up front with the top riders like a Justin Cooper.
05:17If they get by you then follow him. Get right up behind him and see what they do. Learn from him.
05:22Yeah. Justin Cooper had a terrible run through the whips.
05:25He was down the right side and Deegan just really blasted there.
05:29Oh he's trying to make the move on Moss.
05:32As Politelli, Moto Concepts rider, is fourth.
05:36Moss to fifth.
05:38And now Deegan to fifth.
05:42Deegan just 19 years of age.
05:44Cooper 28.
05:46Both riders out of America on the Star Racing, or Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha.
05:56You see the 98 of Austin Politelli and that Moto Concepts racing entry.
06:02Politelli sits fourth.
06:03So Hayden Deegan doing right what they want as he gets around him.
06:08He's inside the top five now, up to fourth.
06:11Running well.
06:11Remember Jeff, he had that terrible gate pick.
06:14Had a terrible start.
06:15Was dead last going into the first quarter.
06:18And now Hayden Deegan finds himself up to fourth.
06:21Yeah, it's really impressive.
06:22I mean, watch what he's doing here.
06:25Oh, we just missed it.
06:26He's blasting tough blocks on the outside.
06:28Just throttling up the Yamaha.
06:30Meanwhile, Ken Roxxon out front is doing what Ken Roxxon has done so many times.
06:35You give Ken Roxxon a clear track, and he's allowed to ride whatever line he wants.
06:39He makes it look so easy.
06:41He's got a five and a half second lead.
06:43He ran his last lap of the 54-7, Jeff.
06:46So I think he's pushing just hard enough.
06:49That's a fairly quick lap time, but not too fast.
06:54Deegan having made up 12 spots already here in this race.
06:58He's 12 positions.
07:00Impressive ride.
07:01Really impressive.
07:04Final lap for Ken Roxxon, who's going to be very happy to see this one come to an end.
07:08He can go back and relax a little bit.
07:10Hopefully rehydrate some, Jeff.
07:11He'll pick up 10 points and get ready for race number two.
07:15I mean, that's the way to do it if you're Ken Roxxon, right?
07:17Just try to stay in your zone.
07:19Try to conserve energy and ride as efficiently as you can.
07:22Obviously, getting off early in the race with the whole shot makes life so much easier, but it's only going to get tougher as the night goes on.
07:31This is eight laps.
07:32The next one's eight laps.
07:33Then it's going to be 12 at the end of the night.
07:36The track's getting really slippery.
07:37It's getting difficult.
07:39The whoops are going to be more difficult as the night goes on.
07:42But Ken Roxxon is riding like the champion that he is.
07:45Ken Roxxon doing a tremendous job, looking to grab these 10 valuable points.
07:51Here he comes, headed to the checkered flags.
07:53Kenny Roxxon lights the candles here in Buenos Aires to take race number one.
07:59Christian Craig will finish in second.
08:01That's an outstanding ride for him.
08:03Joey Savace in a good position in third.
08:05And here he comes in his 450 debut.
08:08Hayden Deegan will come across the finish line, jump in fourth.
08:12And a big cheer, I've got to believe, Jeff, just went up in Temecula, California at the Deegan family home.
08:18Yeah, and he was only 14.7 seconds off of the lead after starting last and having to pass riders.
08:26That was a really impressive ride for him.
08:28His last lap was a 55.3 quicker than Ken Roxxon.
08:34He was seventh in qualifying practice.
08:39Didn't make Super Bowl, had the worst-case pick of the night, passed 12 riders to finish fourth in his 450 debut.
08:48And he's got two more races to go.
08:50I think we're in store for a great night with Hayden Deegan.
08:54And Ken Roxxon as well, Kristen.
08:58Ken, battling a stomach virus all week.
09:01But can you maintain, do you have enough in the tank for two more starts?
09:06I am very surprised.
09:08But as of right now, on the track and the race, I felt really good.
09:11I was a little worried not having enough, like, nutrition in general in me.
09:15But as of right now, I feel really good.
09:18Great start, whole shot.
09:19The track's tricky.
09:20I mean, it's tacky in some areas, but very slippery exiting the turn.
09:24So I just rode really mellow, really calm, strung the laps together, and didn't overdo it.
09:30I mean, I had a gap to Christian behind me and just rode my own race.
09:34So I'm very pleased with the first one.
09:37Ken Roxxon's 10th career World Supercross race win.
09:40Ralph?
09:41All right, Kristen.
09:42It's going to be interesting to see if Ken can make it through the rest of the night.
09:45He's got another eight-lap race and then finished the night off with a 12-lap race with 25 points up for grabs.
09:55We'll see how the former world champ can do here tonight.
10:03All right, Jeff.
10:08So, Ken Roxxon, have you ever had to race with a stomach flu?
10:13We all have.
10:14Okay, so how did you nurse yourself through that?
10:17You know, oh, just taking a look at Deegan just spinning off the gate there.
10:21You know, sometimes you just overcome.
10:23I've had one of my best races of my career when I was totally sick.
10:27I went to the track, and I said, I just hope I don't lose too many points today, and I ended up winning.
10:32Ken Roxxon has won Super Bowl and now race won and really kind of has been in his zone.
10:39And I think maybe, in a way, you just focus more on your body and you just kind of put the blinders on and forget about everything else.
10:47And, you know, you don't let anything bother you.
10:50But I've got a feeling that number 38 is going to bother him before the night's over.
10:54We hear how adrenaline can overcome pain when a rider has an injury that way.
10:58Can adrenaline overcome something like a stomach virus?
11:01Yeah, I think so.
11:03I mean, he certainly is a veteran racer, so he knows his body extremely well, knows what he has to do.
11:10And at this point, you're like, okay, there's 20 more laps.
11:14That's all I've got to do is 20 more laps.
11:15Can I do eight?
11:16Can I do 12?
11:17Yeah.
11:17Yeah, I can do that.
11:20All right, we'll see how Ken Roxxon can do.
11:22All right.
11:22All right.
11:22All right.
11:22All right.
