00:00Cole Thompson on his way to the gate, so yeah, he's put it out of his mind Jeff. Yeah, he said he would. It's over. I'm not thinking about him at all. I'm just going to roost him a little bit here. Yeah, so look on the right side of your screen, the number two. That's going to be Cole Thompson. Then you're going to go over. One, two, three, four, five, six. The 43 is going to be Colin Park. Luckily, they're separated. They're not lined up right next to each other.
00:26I get the feeling they've got a magnet that's going to pull the two of them together. Let's watch this. Here we go, folks. Getting ready for the gate drop here in Vancouver. Watch the 30-second board. She's going to walk off the racetrack. FIM official says, we're ready to go. All right, fellas, get set. Gate drop in Vancouver.
00:44Who's going to be first to Carpe? Turn number one. It looks like Anstey right through the middle. He's going to get it, and he's already trying to put gap between him and Lopes on the 16 who got another good start. He's sitting in second.
01:03Great start for Lopes and for Schock.
01:05Schock in third. Schock trying to get inside of Lopes. He does. Cody Schock moves up to second.
01:10Yeah, and just behind the top three right there.
01:13Guess who's together. Fourth and fifth.
01:15Guess who's together. That magnet pulling him right there. Park and Thompson. Oh, boy. Here we go. Race number two at BC Place for Essex 2. About to get real spicy here.
01:27Colin Park covered that. Thompson goes inside, but Colin Park definitely played some good defense, but Thompson gets it early.
01:34Got it. Yeah, but can he stay there? He's just in front of him right now. Oh, it cuts across in front of him. Park's not going to like that.
01:41Maybe, maybe that's what Colin Park was talking about through that rhythm section.
01:46Oh, look at it. Here they come. It definitely looked like that Thompson changed up his line through there.
01:55So here they are like Velcro. You would be upset about that as well, Jeff?
01:58Well, it seems like Park is, and, you know, he's peppering him here, trying to make his way past, but Thompson is super motivated also, and maybe that's what both riders needed, is to have this little personal battle between each other to sort of give them a little extra motivation.
02:15Well, let's keep an eye on it. This is that fight for fourth. These two have been going at it all throughout race number one, and they're picking right up where they left off in race number two for Essex 2.
02:27Anstey, meanwhile, leading as we approach already the halfway point in this eight-lap event.
02:32Here's Max right there.
02:34Yeah, 1.3, so a nice little lead, no real pressure. You can still probably hear a little engine behind you, so you've got to respect second and third.
02:41But the way he's riding right now, Jeff, is just phenomenal. It's tight, no mistakes, and shocking Enzo Lopes.
02:48Look, they look great, too. But Anstey's just a little bit quicker, probably in the whoops section. He's just inching away.
02:54Yeah, little by little, but both of those Arby's wear racing bikes, running second and third.
03:02I mean, they've been really impressive so far in this championship.
03:09They're going to try to hang on to the final podium spots here. We're about halfway through this race.
03:14Park is starting to lose a little bit of ground to Thompson. Thompson was jumping through the whoops, and Park was trying to blitz through them.
03:22I don't know if that's making that much of a difference, but it did on that last lap.
03:25It's ironic you've got Peters and Hicks right here on your screen, two riders that have raced quite a bit together in what's called Arena Cross,
03:36so a smaller version of this in the United States. These two guys have gone head-to-head, and now here they are, stuck together like Velcro, just like Parks and Thompson.
03:48Yeah, Hicks really having to wrestle that start through the whoops there, the electric bike.
03:53Meanwhile, Anstey continues to lead. Shock lopes, and then it's still Thompson just in front of Park, fighting over fourth.
04:02So we watch that battle here again.
04:04Great lap for Shock, 56-0. He caught half a second onto Anstey, so he's closing back up, only down 1.6,
04:09but these two in the exact same position they were last race. Park's lost a little bit.
04:14Thompson's got these great defensive lines, a lot of insides. He's playing really good defense,
04:20and that's probably what's frustrating Park, too, is he can't really make a run on them anywhere except for the whoops,
04:25but Thompson jumping 3-3-3 right in front of him.
04:28Yeah, but look how tight the top five is right now. They're only separated by 4.8 seconds.
04:33I mean, we thought Anstey was going to check out last time around. Shock had the fastest lap.
04:38Lopes was the second fastest. Now look how tight and close Thompson and Park are to them.
04:45And that battle's starting to heat up again a little bit.
04:48Park is starting to reel back in on Thompson.
04:52He's just about two bike lengths behind as they come over the finish line.
04:55Inside he goes, and Park is around him.
04:59You know, Thompson was a little more worried than he needed to be right there.
05:02I think Park in the air kind of had accepted that it wasn't going to be a full-blown dive to the inside takeout,
05:07but Thompson kind of lets up at the berm.
05:09He might look back on that one, Jeff, and say, I think I probably gave that one away.
05:14Little afraid. Didn't need to be.
05:16And look at Park picking up on that inside line. Real smart.
05:18So good riding. Smart race craft by Colin Park.
05:21Well, I don't think these two are done, and I don't think that the race for the lead is done
05:26because Shock is all over Anstey going through the whoops right now.
05:30Yeah, here they come. There's Lopes, too, as well.
05:32He sits in third. Meanwhile, Park. Oh! Big problems through the woods.
05:36Thompson looks inside. That mistake very constantly for Park as Thompson gets by on the number two.
05:42All that work. All that work to get him to get it right back in the walk.
05:46He's coming back. He came right back on him, and guess what? Park is back around.
05:50Just tripled past him. What a line by Colin Park,
05:53but he's got to separate himself from Thompson right now so he can focus on the top three.
05:59That mistake and those little passes back and forth has – oh, that was –
06:05Oh, that was not smooth.
06:06Yeah, it's –
06:07He's not riding real smooth, and that keeps giving Thompson an opportunity to get back at him
06:12as we approach the final lap here.
06:14Yeah, and look at the gap now between Lopes and Park. It's huge.
06:18And the gap between Anstey and Schock is to a second, so Cody Schock nipping away while the action's here.
06:26Peters and Hicks staying in this battle, too, because of their back and forth.
06:30Pumps up a little bit there at fourth.
06:32They're holding sixth and seventh, Peters and Hicks.
06:35Still Anstey, Schock lopes out front.
06:37One, two, three.
06:38Park and Thompson still squabbling over fourth, and Peters and Hicks trying to settle who's going to get sixth.
06:43He's on to the final lap now.
06:45Anstey back out in front and continuing to dominate an SX2 in 2025.
06:52Guys, we are about to complete the fifth SX2 race of 2025, and Max Anstey has been perfect so far this season.
07:02Unbelievable.
07:02Yeah, and I feel like watching him ride, yes, Schock and Lopes have been right there, putting in fantastic rides here in race two.
07:12But I also feel like Anstey has the confidence in himself that even if they got close, he's not going to worry about it, right?
07:21He's not going to go.
07:21Oh, big bubble by Lopes.
07:24He's going to hold on to third.
07:26Anstey is just absolutely in control.
07:29He has just got this all locked up.
07:31Everything about his program right now is all set on destroy the field, and he's doing it.
07:37As Max Anstey lights the candles to take another win in 2025 in SX2 competition, he's five for five, looking to sweep the night here at BC Place in Vancouver a little later on when we get to the third and final race of the day.
07:53And this time around, Park gets the better of Thompson, as Thompson actually slips back to sixth, but Peters getting around him right at the finish to move up to fifth.
08:07Great effort by Kyle Peters on the Kawasaki, moving up into that top five.
08:11Lots of storylines that follow here in SX2 in Vancouver.
08:25Here's a look at the winner, Max Anstey on that Team GSM.
08:30What a season he is having so far.
08:35Jeff, we all expected him to be strong, but nobody, I think, would have said he'd be five for five at this point in the season.
08:42Yeah, I mean, maybe Anstey's probably the only guy that had the belief, you know, that he can do that.
08:47He's executed it perfectly.
08:50Anstey the winner again in race number two.
09:00Max Anstey with me now.
09:04Max, at what point during that race did you become conscious of Cody Schock's advance?
09:08Honestly, he's been riding great, and it's really tricky.
09:12The track is so slippery and rocky, so a lot changed from the first moto to the second moto.
09:18And I was making a lot of mistakes, so I've got to clean it up, got to be better for the last one.
09:23We've got one more to go, so we'll make it a good one.
09:25You seem more physically exerted after this race than I've seen you all season.
09:29Was it that physically challenging?
09:31No, I was just really sick all week.
09:33I lost my voice as well, so I'm lucky to be able to talk all right today.
09:38But it's what it is.
09:39Got to deal with the situation and make the best of it.
09:42We've come here to do our job, and that's what I'm here to do.
09:45Max, well done.
09:46Five for five, as Ralph said.
09:47But, guys, there is a bug going around the paddock.
09:49Quite a few of the riders suffering from those illnesses.
09:54And I am with Cody Schock, second on the race, back-to-back seconds.
09:58Really good laps there mid-race.
10:01You made a run at him, got to one second, then lost a bit.
10:04Where is the speed coming from?
10:05Where are the mistakes coming from?
10:06How can we be better in race three and get that Max Anstey?
10:10Dude's good.
10:11I can't lie.
10:12I just definitely have to be better on the left side of the finish.
10:17And it all starts from the whoops.
10:18Max is really good in the whoops and pumping this rhythm.
10:21And I'm pretty good on the other half of the track.
10:25So I just have to figure out the whoops.
10:29I mean, I'm hitting them okay, but it just needs to be better.
10:32This was better.
10:33Yes.
10:33Better start in the second one.
10:34Got up front.
10:35Enzo Lopes, your teammate, gets up the inside, but you were able to get to second early.
10:39In the whoops section, there's guys blitzing, there's guys jumping.
10:42You a few times blitz, blitz, dropped in, threed out.
10:45Did that end up working for you?
10:46Was that just kind of in the moment?
10:47Can that be used in the third race?
10:49Yeah, I think it'll definitely be used in the third race.
10:52Well, something I scoped out on the sight lap, the pockets in the whoops section towards
10:58the end are starting to fill up.
10:59So the jump line is definitely coming.
11:02But yeah, I just, I got to figure out how to get this bike to play a little bit better.
11:06I think it's more so me.
11:08I just got to drop the heels and be better in that department.
11:11But it's got to be patient and keep riding like me.
11:14And I come up the track with a smile on my face.
11:16I just want to get that win so bad.
11:18Well, this is better than Buenos Aires.
11:20We had to dig out of a hole there.
11:21At least we're starting from a better place.
11:23Two, two, one to go.
11:25Can we go one in the last one?
11:28That's always the plan.
11:30That's the plan.
11:30The want, the plan, and we're going to try to do it.
11:33Cody shot great racing.
11:35The track itself, how is it now?
11:37It's tough and qualifying in practice.
11:39They are doing some work on it, so it seems to be getting better.
11:42But it goes right back to the ruts.
11:43Is it raceable?
11:44If you get up there with ANC, can we battle back and forth?
11:46Can we race on this track?
11:48Yeah, you definitely can race.
11:49This track is honestly a lot of fun.
11:51The finish line is nice.
11:54Excuse me.
11:56It reminds me of Perth last year, just some of the booters.
12:00But this layout, Worlds definitely crushed it on this layout.
12:03I feel like a lot of us riders are having a blast.
12:05And it's not just a fun track.
12:08It's a raceable track.
12:09So, yeah, it's going to get gnarly.
12:11The track is getting worse each lap.
12:14And it's all about limiting your mistakes.
12:17It's not all about the speed.
12:18Last week, you mentioned that you were being challenged, which you were.
12:21You overcame those challenges.
12:23Talk me through just the change in you as a person
12:26and where you are now from where you were maybe a year ago.
12:29So, yeah, I'm trying to see the positive in everything.
12:36The human mind naturally wants to think negative.
12:39And you've got to put all that stuff in the past and move forward.
12:42So, for me, 200 feet at a time, one lap at a time.
12:47And when you just tell yourself one more lap at a time,
12:5012 laps goes by pretty quick.
12:52All right.
12:52Well, I'm going to let you move forward to race three.
12:55Thank you, Cody.
