00:00It's a sight lab, and for me, Jeff, it's all about the sight.
00:03Get your eyes warmed up, get your blood flowing, see the track at race pace,
00:08and there's different methods for everybody, but I like what you did.
00:11That's what I used to do as well.
00:12And one thing that is interesting about World Supercross also is that the rider's mechanic
00:17would typically go up to the starting line.
00:21You see some of the riders have what we call starting blocks,
00:23so they're little risers to put your feet on.
00:26There's a whole technique to it of holding on to the bike,
00:29and when you shift and everything,
00:30but the riders have to take their starting blocks
00:33and set them on the metal starting greats all by themselves,
00:37and that's typically, I mean, that's very unique to World Supercross.
00:40Here's a look at the championship standings in SX1.
00:43Roxen with a perfect night down in Argentina as well, 45 markers for him.
00:47Christian Craig, 14 points back in second, then Jason Anderson in third.
00:53And you see Matt Moss, the Australian, in seventh, I believe.
00:56He's got an injury that he's dealing with.
00:58Yeah, he re-aggravated a pelvic injury, and he's out for the night.
01:04Tough break for Matt.
01:06Hopefully he'll be ready by the time we get back to his home country of Australia.
01:11What, two weeks?
01:12Yeah, so see that center on the right side of your screen there where the World Supercross icon?
01:17So the center of the starting lane, that's kind of nicknamed like the doghouse, right?
01:22That's where the FIM official drops the gate.
01:27Okay, so we've got Justin Cooper on the outside with first gate pick.
01:32He went to the outside of the doghouse, and he got Tomek just to the inside.
01:36All right, here we go.
01:38You see the clock ticking down.
01:39We're inside of 30 seconds to go to the gate drop.
01:42Final adjustments to the goggles.
01:44Get yourself where you need to be to get the proper start.
01:46Get that bike feeling just the way you want it.
01:49Give it a couple of revs and get ready.
01:51We're about to have at it here.
01:53The 30-second board about to turn sideways and exit the racetrack.
01:57Tension starting to build.
02:08There goes the 30-second board.
02:10We're ready to go racing here, and BC Place dropped the gate.
02:16Headed to Carpe, turn number one.
02:19And it's Tomek out front, but boy, he slipped right in the middle of the corner.
02:22Everything broke away at the rear end of the Red Bull KTM, and Anderson on the 21 comes up the inside to take away the lead.
02:30And that came from gate number one, way inside the safe gate, Jeff, but he pushed everybody wide, cut under, takes the lead.
02:38What a start for Ombre.
02:39Tomek back to second place as he fights hard to get there, but Vince Friese got a tremendous start.
02:45He's in front of Tomek now just by a hair on that start.
02:49So it's the start versus the KTM as they come at you here.
02:53And there's Justin Cooper, the 32 on the Yamaha, the wild card for this event, has made his way past Friese.
03:01Also, Christian Craig's in there.
03:05Watching Tomek on that Red Bull KTM.
03:07Cooper right behind him now.
03:09Here's Anderson blasting through the whoops.
03:12Where's the start?
03:13There it is.
03:14Christian Craig up here on the 28 as well.
03:17He's holding down fourth right now.
03:18Friese has slipped back to fifth.
03:20Roxxon trying to come up as quick as he can.
03:23He sits in sixth right now.
03:25Well, and for Ken Roxxon, Jeff, the sweep, the perfection, everything going your way.
03:32Well, he's being challenged right now.
03:33He's going to have to be his very best in a quick, quick race and go through Craig and Cooper and Tomek and Jason Anderson, who is taking off with a 1.6-second lead.
03:44Again, this is another short eight-lap race with 10 points up for grabs for the winner.
03:49Well, Ken Roxxon, that 94 there, the red plate.
03:52He's your points leader.
03:54This is the most adversity that he's had to face so far in this young championship.
04:00Oh, Savace off into the tough blocks, but he keeps it going.
04:02Yeah.
04:03And you see Friese's dropped back quite a few places.
04:06He got a good start, but everything was happening way too quick for him.
04:09Roxxon is closing on Craig.
04:11That's quickly going to become a battle for fourth as we continue to watch Anderson getting hounded by Tomek.
04:18Tomek a little bit higher up on that burn.
04:20Gives a great drive off into this next rhythm lane as they come to the finish line jump.
04:24Anderson knows he has company.
04:25Tomek on the inside.
04:27New leader here in B.C.
04:29Place, and the crowd comes to life here in Canada.
04:31Yeah, Anderson tried to cut down and kind of counteract what Tomek was doing.
04:36Hit some tough blocks.
04:37Luckily, he didn't go down.
04:38Now, one of those tough blocks kind of kicked out in the middle of the track,
04:42so the other rider is going to come around the turn and have a little surprise.
04:46Roxxon up to fourth very, very quickly.
04:48Now up to third on Justin Cooper.
04:49So that early race pace that he has, he is using it any better
04:54because now Eli's got that clear track.
04:55Ken, he's got to get by Jason Quick.
04:57He's got his teammate in front of him on the other PMG bike, the other Suzuki.
05:02Anderson right there on the 21.
05:04Then Roxxon, Cooper on the 32.
05:06And Craig coming inside of Cooper.
05:08Put him in front of that.
05:10That's going to move Christian Craig up to fourth, and Cooper slides back to fifth.
05:13Yeah, how do you got to feel if you're just a Cooper?
05:16You went out in one Super Bowl, then all of a sudden now here in race one,
05:20you're getting shuffled back a little bit.
05:22But again, that's the difference between one lap and a whole race, right?
05:25And we're halfway through this one, so there's still plenty of time for Roxxon.
05:29If he can make another pass here, get around Anderson quickly,
05:32he might have a shot at Tomac before this is over.
05:36Let's go get an ad from Kristen Beat right now.
05:40Jason Anderson with pressure being applied by his teammate, Ken Roxxon.
05:44Now, remember, after taking three months off earlier this season due to health issues,
05:48Jason Anderson is still rebuilding his conditioning.
05:51He sees the physio four times a week.
05:53He receives hyperbaric treatment.
05:54And now on this new bike, he's not just adapting to the chassis,
05:57but also trying to get his conditioning back.
05:59I'm curious if that will play a factor late in this race.
06:02Taking a look at these lap times, Ken Roxxon fastest lap with a 54.5.
06:09Eli's just a one-tenth slower than that.
06:12So really, those are the two fastest riders on the track.
06:15Visually, though, it looks like Christian Craig there sitting on your screen
06:19on the Quadlock Honda.
06:21Something is definitely working right for him.
06:25Currently setting back and forth, but I keep my eye on that number 28 also.
06:30Tomac was even quicker than that last lap.
06:31He extended the gap to two seconds between him and Anderson,
06:36but Roxxon is closing the gap between him and his teammate.
06:40Here they come, Anderson on the 21, Roxxon right behind him on the 94.
06:44And this might be a sprint race,
06:46but these races now count towards your overall and the championship.
06:49So for Ken Roxxon, if he wants a shot at that overall,
06:52every pass is going to matter.
06:54So you can't just settle into third
06:55and then kind of speed your way into the final race.
06:58This pass might matter when it all is said and done.
07:01But Eli Tomac looks great.
07:03Anderson looks way better than he did a week ago,
07:05and Ken Roxxon is dealing with that adversity pretty well.
07:07He's made moves,
07:08but now he's going to have to find his way around his teammate on the PMG Suzuki.
07:12All right, so where's Roxxon going to get him?
07:13He has caught Anderson.
07:15He's right there looking inside to the next corner.
07:17Anderson beats him there.
07:19There's just a couple of bike lengths between the two of them.
07:21I like the whoops.
07:22I like the whoops.
07:22I like the whoops.
07:23I like the whoops.
07:23I like the whoops.
07:23I like the whoops.
07:23I like the whoops.
07:23I like the whoops section,
07:26even though Roxxon is pretty quick
07:27through this tighter section at the end of the track.
07:30Like right now.
07:31Here he comes.
07:31Roxxon looking inside.
07:33Not enough.
07:33Not enough.
07:34No.
07:35Anderson does a good job of fending him off for now.
07:38And that's where he got Cooper.
07:39Was in that corner doing that same rhythm,
07:41but Jason was a little bit further ahead.
07:43So, Jeff, maybe it's these whoops.
07:44Here we go.
07:45Here comes Tomek through those whoops.
07:47What do you guys think of how that KTM is handling for him
07:49through that tricky section?
07:50Yeah, he looks great.
07:51Like, yeah, Tomek has definitely dialed in.
07:53No, Roxxon's still in third.
07:55And Anderson has cut the gap between him and Tomek by a hair.
08:03All right, let's take a look at these lap times.
08:04Tomek goes by at a 56, Anderson a 55,
08:08and Roxxon a 54.9.
08:11So, obviously, Roxxon passes right on the track.
08:13Now, he's switching up his lines.
08:14Can he inside?
08:16Trying to figure it out.
08:16Closer than he's been through this entire race,
08:19and we're on the final lap.
08:21Anderson's got to hold him off one more lap,
08:24and a big bobble by Roxxon's going to cost him,
08:27and that might be enough for Anderson.
08:29Well, and Anderson has reeled in.
08:31Tomek, he might have backed off just a little bit,
08:33but the pressure from Roxxon was forcing Anderson
08:36to pick up his pace, and it's tightened up quite a bit
08:40with just a few turns to go.
08:41Back into the whoops again.
08:42Here comes Tomek.
08:43Final couple of corners.
08:44Boy, he rode that front wheel those last few, didn't he?
08:47Oh, yeah.
08:50Nice and smooth through.
08:51Here is the reigning world champion, Eli Tomek.
08:55Final corner.
08:56He comes to the finish line.
08:58Jump, and Eli Tomek lights the candles here in the Canadian GP.
09:03Anderson will hold off Ken Roxxon.
09:05So, Roxxon, for the first time in 2025,
09:09doesn't see the checkered flag first.
09:11Well, and as I look at timing and scoring, you know what is really interesting to me?
09:155.4 seconds separated first and fifth.
09:20First, that's almost wheel-to-wheel.
09:23Great start for all of them.
09:25I mean, everybody has something positive to take away.
09:27Even Justin Cooper had the fastest lap of his moto on that last one,
09:30so it's a little bit of a turnaround after a rough seven laps here.
09:33At least he can try to carry that into sprint race number two.
09:36Yeah, and maybe just getting warmed up a little bit, he'll be better.
09:39And he was better in the final races last week also.
09:41One thing I noticed in there, unfortunately for Vince Friese,
09:46he had such a great start, he ends up finishing 10th.
09:50In fact, his teammate, Zaragoza, got around him,
09:53so the Starks will finish 9th and 10th.
09:56But Friese looked like he was going to have a shot at the podium.
09:58Instead, ends up just inside the top 10.
10:02Here's a look at your race results from SX1 race number one,
10:06where Eli Tomek debuts on the 450 Red Bull KTM and goes number one.
10:16Let's head down to Kristen.
10:18Eli Tomek with his first win on the Red Bull KTM.
10:22Will you sleep any easier tonight knowing that you signed a deal
10:25that will allow you to race competitively this season?
10:29Hey, we're off to the right start, I'll tell you that.
10:31So I was really happy with my start there.
10:34Probably should have done a triple in in that first lane.
10:36I would have put myself up in the lead maybe earlier.
10:37But anyway, was able to make a good pass early on.
10:41And I was pushing, I was pushing.
10:43So I want to clean up a little bit my next moto,
10:45but overall, what a great start for us.
10:48What were your instincts telling you about that race?
10:51I was just trying to attack and get to the front, that's all it was.
10:53And I was having a ton of fun doing it.
10:57Of course, I missed one or two rhythm lanes.
10:59I was trying some crazy quad over thing too before the finish line.
11:03But overall, just having a good time on my motorcycle right now.
11:05It looks like it, Eli.
11:07Congratulations.
11:07First race win of the night.
11:09Well, Chris, and he looks like he's having a blast too.
11:12All right, let's show you the event points.
11:14Again, 10 points up for grabs for the win.
11:16Eli will take those from race one.
11:19It goes one point down from there for every position down to the top 10.
11:23So Anderson gets nine, Roxanne gets eight.
11:25And we will get ready for the second races of the night.
11:33And joining us after sprint race number one of SX1 is Jason Anderson.
11:41Jason, a week ago on the first race, you were down on the first lap,
11:44but pretty much had to just dig back out of that tonight.
11:47Out front early from gate number one.
11:49You look good on that Suzuki, Jason.
11:53After four weeks on it, I'm starting to feel a little bit more comfortable.
11:55It's nice to get some racing in, and I think that's the best testing, you know.
11:59So thank you to the whole Progressive Suzuki team to start this relationship,
12:05and hopefully we can keep it going this way so I can keep talking to both of you guys.
12:07Yeah, so now you've taken a gate drop.
12:09You've actually raced this track, right, not just qualifying in practice.
12:13Tell us what it's like out there riding in this dirt and this soil.
12:17Yeah, this dirt up here in Vancouver is pretty treacherous.
12:20You know, it's pretty rocky.
12:21But, yeah, luckily right now it's been prepped a little bit.
12:26In practice, it was tough for me.
12:28I mean, I was pretty far back, but making some setting changes, and we're ready to go.
12:32And the whoops?
12:34Yeah, I feel pretty good.
12:36Yeah?
12:36I feel pretty good.
12:37Let's see if we can keep it going.
12:38All right.
12:39Awesome.
12:39Jason, thanks for joining us.
12:40I'll let you get back to the pit.
12:41We'll see you in sprint race number two.
12:44And Jeff Anderson up front.
12:46That's just a whole different world when you're up front,
12:48not dealing with the chaos in the back.
12:50And he got to battle with an old friend, Eli Tomac.
12:52Yeah, and, you know, Jason's up here smiling, happy about that.
12:56Would have loved to take the win, of course.
12:58But, man, Eli Tomac, all of a sudden, you know, I mentioned we had some unknowns.
13:04It's like, ooh, he answered those questions pretty quickly, right?
13:09Yeah.
13:09Like, wow, he looked great.
13:10Riding with that power that we're accustomed to seeing from him.
13:13And, I mean, these guys are all riding new bikes.
13:16Like Jason just said, riding is one thing.
13:18Racing is another thing.
13:19And it exposes weaknesses and flaws in the machine.
13:21Ooh, nice little tap from Kenny.
13:23Little tap from there with Eli, too.
13:24But this is great for him to feel.
13:26Does this bike translate from the practice track to the racetrack?
13:29And, yeah.
