00:00Well, we've had two qualifying practices, like I mentioned, Super Bowl, but now we start the three-race format for the winner of the GP.
00:10Right there, Michael Hicks on the start. The start's debut, the electric motorcycle in Supercross, and I look for some great finishes out of him.
00:19Jeff, there's a look at who's in which gate. Who do you think got the right gate pick?
00:23Obviously, Super Bowl decided who got to pick first, but who got the right gate?
00:27Well, I mean, Anstey had first pick, right? So he's in a good spot, Hicks. But what we really don't know is...
00:37These racers are ready to push themselves mentally and physically farther than they ever have.
00:44They will race five events on five continents over the next six weeks, taking their race bikes to levels engineers never designed them to achieve.
00:52It's all part of the quest to be a true world champion. That quest to be the FIM Supercross champion of the world begins now.
01:02Vamos desde Argentina! Here we go!
01:12Oh, from the outside to Stark.
01:15Kobush was on the outside. Anstey with the whole shot.
01:19Anstey right to the front of the blue bike, number 99.
01:22New leader, Jeff.
01:26Kobush on the 39.
01:27No, make that Viney. Noah Viney on the 39 got there.
01:33Anstey sits in second as this one settles in.
01:36Anstey tried to poke a wheel in there.
01:39Everybody getting familiar with the new numbers for all these riders.
01:42Some of them with new numbers for the year.
01:44So we'll try to get you up to speed with them as quick as we can.
01:47That's Kyle Peters on the Kawasaki running in third, the 110.
01:51And Anstey making the charge. Here he comes on the 99.
01:55And the Englishman goes to the front and into the lead.
01:58Here comes the 43 as well.
02:01That's Cohen Park. He's moving up on that Moto Concepts machine.
02:05Kobush with that great start. Comes across the line in eighth.
02:10Dropped a few positions.
02:11And last looks like Michael Hicks, who had such a good Super Bowl.
02:17He was second on the start. He is last right now.
02:20He's got some work to do.
02:21Peters closing in quickly on the backside of Viney as this fight for second develops here.
02:26Coming right at you in your living room.
02:28There's the number two machine.
02:29That's Cole Thompson.
02:31He's on the Venom Bud Racing, Cowie.
02:33He sits in fifth, does the Canadian rider.
02:36And, Ralph, as I look back through the pack, the rider that I'm wondering where he's at right now is Shane McElrath,
02:42the reigning champion, back in ninth, has just been a click off today.
02:47Missed Super Bowl, just hasn't quite found the speed that he needs.
02:51So he's going to have to trust his experience and his fitness to get inside the top three here by the end of this moto.
02:58Look at the 43 coming around here.
03:00Colin Park trying to make a move on Peters, but Peters is focused fully on the riders in front of him.
03:06And everybody's chasing.
03:07Max Anstey, Peters goes to second.
03:10Colin Park trying to go around the outside.
03:13Peters on the 110, Park on the 43.
03:15This is the best fight on the racetrack right now.
03:17It's for second place.
03:18Schock makes the move on Viney.
03:21Yep, that's going to put him up to fourth.
03:23Cody Schock on the Arby's Rick Ware Racing entry.
03:27We've got a split here.
03:28Let's see if Park can get around the outside.
03:29He has been fast all day long.
03:31It looks like Peters is running a good defensive line and is just making it really tough for Park to get past.
03:38Well, and Peters is a multi-time arena cross champion, which is a format of racing in America that's about sometimes a quarter of the size of track of this, sometimes half the size.
03:49Peters definitely experienced.
03:51But here's Park around the outside, maybe.
03:53Yeah.
03:54Yeah, he's got him right there.
03:55Peters out of Greensboro, North Carolina.
03:57Well, Ralph, the whoops section is a really wide lane, but the whoops have been the story and the toughest part of the track all day long.
04:07There's the 16, Jeff.
04:08That's Enzo Lopes, the Brazilian rider you were talking about on the Arby's Rick Ware Racing bike.
04:13He is up to fifth right now.
04:16Number one on the Quad Lock Honda, your reigning champion.
04:19McElrath closing in up, showing in seventh on his Quad Lock Honda.
04:23Ooh, has to slam on the brakes, fall in line here.
04:26He's got three riders directly in front of him that if he can make a pass quickly.
04:33There's one.
04:34He gets around loads.
04:37And you've got to remember, all these riders, it's the first race of the championship.
04:43There's some nerves, yeah.
04:44And this first race of three here tonight can definitely help settle those nerves.
04:49Who was that that just got up the inside of Cody Shock?
04:54Cole Thompson.
04:55Cole Thompson, he has been super fast today, too.
04:58And he's right behind his teammate, Kyle Peters, right now.
05:01So it's Venom Bud Racing bikes run third and fourth right now.
05:06Yeah, one of the two French teams that we have here in World Supercross.
05:10Yeah, so there's Anthony Bourdone, number 100 on the Quad Lock Honda.
05:14Speaking of French riders, he sits in seventh now behind McElrath.
05:19Here he comes.
05:22Cody Shock just in front of him.
05:25Meanwhile, up front, smooth race for this guy who's been the class of the field all day long.
05:32Max Anstey, the former champ, looking like he's going to contend once again here in 25.
05:37Yeah, a five-and-a-half-second lead over Colin Park on that Moto Concepts bike.
05:43And, I mean, he's just kind of checked out.
05:46And when you allow a rider like him to get out front like that, well, he earned his way.
05:50He passed his way to the front.
05:51I shouldn't say it loud.
05:53He has a clear track.
05:54So he's just out there clicking off his laps.
05:56Meanwhile, Cole Thompson has his hands full.
06:00He's got Peters.
06:01He's got McElrath.
06:02Just behind him, Cody Shock.
06:04That's a tight fight going on right there.
06:07That is third, fourth, fifth having at it here in Buenos Aires.
06:11And, Jeff, these first two races, these sprint races are eight laps, ten points up for grabs if you get the win.
06:18Yeah.
06:18First, ten through one in points.
06:21If you finish where Viney's at right now in 14th, that's zero points.
06:27That's a big old thanks for playing.
06:29We'll see you in race number two.
06:31Track's starting to work in a little bit right now.
06:34We got a lot of rain yesterday.
06:36But the track crew actually had to put some water down earlier today.
06:41Of course, now the sun's gone down.
06:44A little bit of moisture's coming up.
06:45It's getting a little slippery.
06:46And the whoop section is going to be one of the toughest spots.
06:50McElrath, he basically goes around the outside of Thompson.
06:54Is he going to block the lane?
06:56Yes.
06:57Pushes Peters or just takes his line away.
07:00And look at Shock come up the inside of the 69.
07:02Cody Shock right there on that Arby's Rick Ware racing entry.
07:06The Yamaha mounted rider getting right in the thick of this one.
07:09He tried to force his way in there, but it just didn't work.
07:13Upset the balance of his Yamaha.
07:15He has the outside line coming over this rhythm section here.
07:21Well, and for Shock, he's got Bordeaux and Desperate, two French riders breathing down his neck.
07:27So he can't afford to make those little mistakes as he's trying to pass the rider in front of him.
07:32And at the back of that line, Jeff, I caught a glimpse of Michael Hicks on the number 460.
07:38That's the Stark racing entry, that all-electric motorcycle that we're seeing for the first time ever.
07:43Final lap underway here with SX2 race number one.
07:48Just an eight-lap sprint race.
07:50Anstey having led this one all the way so far.
07:54Yeah, Anstey's 6.5 seconds out front.
07:57I mean, he's just basically done his own thing.
07:59This group, though, on the other hand, oh, we go back to our leader.
08:04Shock looks like he was making a move through the rhythm.
08:06We'll have to see if we get him in the next shot.
08:08Finishing order here in race one will not in any way impact the gate lineup for race number two.
08:13You start exactly how you did in race one, in race two, and then in race three, the same as well.
08:19This is all about points.
08:21Ten of them up for grabs for the winner.
08:23And Max Anstey looking to lay claim to it just like he did Super Bowl.
08:27Blast through the whoops one more time.
08:30And the Englishman around the final corner, the former champ, comes to the finish line,
08:34and he'll win as he lights the candles to take the win here in race number one of SX2
08:41at the GP Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
08:45That was a really good race, Ralph.
08:50I mean, that middle pack there from Park all the way back to about Lopes or so, I mean, it could have gone any way.
08:59And I'll tell you, Park and McElrath were really impressive because they had to ride through the pack.
09:0310 big points taken by Max Anstey.
09:08And, Jeff, for those wondering about the Stark, the electric bike will finish 10th with Michael Hicks,
09:14and it will also finish 12th with Lance Cobush in its first-ever race in World Supercross competition.
09:21But there's your winner right there, Team GSM's Max Anstey.
09:26Yeah, the British rider, he just looks so strong and smooth.
09:30And, you know, he had to make a pass or two to get the lead, and then just rode his own race.
09:38Well, let's hear from the winner. Track side is Kristen B.
09:43With the whole shot, a lonely race win out there, but that has to be satisfying.
09:48Max, what did that track demand of you?
09:50It's slick. It's really slippery tonight.
09:53Now the moisture started to come up, so, yeah, there's some slick patches, but, no, just kept it solid.
10:00I've got two more of these things, so I didn't want to do too much when I got out front.
10:04I was happy just sitting at that pace.
10:06So, yeah, let's go back, regroup, and go again.
10:09What will you be telling yourself during that regroup?
10:12Do the same thing again, I guess.
10:14That's about it.
10:15No, I mean, just do what I do.
10:18Try not to think too much and talk too much to myself about it.
10:22So I'll just, yeah, what an interesting question.
10:25I don't know.
10:25I guess what I'm going to do is probably go back, have a cup of tea,
10:30and then figure out where I can go a little bit faster and see if I can make the gap a bit bigger for the next one.
10:34Yeah, that's it.
10:35Like a true Brit.
10:36Thanks so much, Max, our rider from the U.K. this season, guys.
10:40Yeah, and Kristen, all he's got to do is come to our TV truck because all of our game from Aurora coming from the U.K., they totally understand that.
10:48Let's take a look at some of the highlights here, Jeff.
10:50As this one got underway, Anstey right to the front, up the inside, and hard on the brakes.
10:55Yeah, he did.
10:56And just a great start right there.
10:58And then that was Viney who jumps to the inside and takes that position away.
11:06Really aggressive.
11:07But he was so strong through the whoops.
11:08And that's Max's comment about the moisture coming up and getting slippery was exactly what I was predicting.
11:15He didn't have any problem with it, obviously.
11:18He looked fantastic.
11:20But the battle behind was just fantastic.
11:22I mean, we had riders side by side.
11:25Colin Park up to second.
11:27Such a great ride.
11:28Peter's in this picture here.
11:30He would go back to sixth.
11:32But Park looks really impressive on that Moto Concepts bike.
11:36Yeah, he ended up second, six and a half seconds back.
11:39McElrath third.
11:41And Anstey, who finished second in this championship in 2022, won it in 2023, was 15th a year ago.
11:50Just picked up his 10th race win in his career.
11:54And is well on his way to having a fantastic night here in Buenos Aires.
12:02All right.
12:06Max Anstey puts it all together in race one.
12:09So he takes the 10 points with the win over Colin Park, McElrath, Thompson, and Schock.
12:14There'll be another 10 points up for grabs in race two.
12:17And then 25 points up for grabs at the end of race number three.
12:25So race one of SX2 in the books.
12:29And it's the Englishman Max Anstey taking the victory here.
