00:00We got some college football, and that's UMass taking on Akron in Akron.
00:05Line opened up at 9 1⁄2, seeing some 9 1⁄2 still in the marketplace,
00:08but mostly 10s, and a total up from the look-ahead line at 46 1⁄2 or so
00:12to 49 1⁄2 across the board.
00:14Akron and UMass, what's that spread line tonight for you, Joe?
00:18Well, Donnie, the reason I'm including this is, A, we have Tuesday night football,
00:22but, B, this has the chance to be the single worst football game played
00:29in the history of football here tonight.
00:32And the best part about this is UMass is a hot dumpster fire.
00:38Akron has been college football's hot dumpster fire for quite some time now,
00:43and yet Akron is an 11-point favorite here, Donnie.
00:47They have not been an 11-point favorite or greater since 2017.
00:56You've got to be kidding me here.
00:59By the way, they're not very good anyway.
01:01Neither of these offenses are good.
01:03The defenses are atrocious.
01:05The only way to look at this game is, without throwing up, is by betting the total, Donnie.
01:11I know this.
01:13Both offenses not good, but against both of these defenses,
01:16there might be some success here tonight.
01:19As crazy as it is, this is going to be terrible,
01:23but Akron is the better team, and we're going to likely get a whole lot of points here.
01:28It's action, action, people, where you get a lot of action on the field,
01:31but not a lot of people in the stands, and a lot of people still betting midweek at this point,
01:34and away we go, which includes tomorrow night,
01:37we'll still have some more action, action during the week.
01:39That's Northern Illinois taking on Toledo.
01:41This line opened up around 13.5, but most of the outlets now, Joe, 14.5 or higher.
01:47A total at 42.5.
01:49Very un-action-like at that point, expecting defense.
01:53Toledo's at home a two-touchdown favorite over Northern Illinois.
01:57What gives tonight, or excuse me, what gives tomorrow, and what's that spread line?
02:01Well, this is an interesting spread, right?
02:03Why such a big spread, Donnie, and such a low total, right?
02:07That's a question here.
02:09I mean, Northern Illinois, known for having, obviously, a pretty good defense there in the Mac,
02:16but this is one of the worst offenses in the country right now here.
02:20I mean, they are bad, but Toledo has this for a number, Donnie.
02:24Toledo has now lost 17 times outright as a favorite since 2021.
02:2912 of those, they have been a favorite of at least seven points.
02:34That is number one in the nation for futility there.
02:38I don't understand why this line is where it is at, especially given that total.
02:44Yeah, no way I can trust as bad as Northern Illinois' offense is.
02:49No way I trust Toledo laying two touchdowns in this spot.
02:52The month of November in college football, it really is elimination Saturdays, elimination Tuesdays, Wednesdays.
02:58We get college football every single day, but the anticipation of the college football playoff really starts to heat up,
03:04and there will be winners, and there will be losers.
03:06Teams with two losses, basically elimination games each week.
03:09Teams with one loss here looking to try to stave off that second loss and make it into the playoffs.
03:14But if you look at the championship picture right now, it's no surprise.
03:18The leader in the clubhouse right now in the odds market, it is the Ohio State Buckeyes at a plus 220 price.
03:23Fantastic on offense, even better on defense, and away they go.
03:27But you know who's in second right on the odds market?
03:30It's the Indiana Hoosiers in the same Big Ten as Ohio State.
03:33Now, understand this.
03:34We're probably going to get a trilogy here, or at least, you know, two games out of it.
03:38They're going to meet up in that Big Ten championship game.
03:40The winner, the loser, they're going to both move on, just better seeding to the victor.
03:43And they might even meet twice by playing in the college football playoff.
03:47If we look at that odds market today, Joe, which has Alabama and A&M and Oregon and Notre Dame,
03:52is there any value across the board, or this is Ohio State's world, and they're all just living in it?
03:58Well, I mean, listen, Ohio State deservedly, you know, champions, number one team in the country, 8-0.
04:05You know, they're not exactly the greatest strength of schedule here.
04:09It's not like they've, you know, they've played the who's who yet, but they will have some very intriguing games still coming up.
04:16And we know that Ryan Day has a problem beating Michigan, but they have set themselves up here.
04:20So is Indiana.
04:21I mean, listen, tonight we have the first, you know, official rankings by the committee, right?
04:27So that'll happen tonight at 8 o'clock.
04:30And I think, Donnie, the odds board reflects what we're probably going to see.
04:34Ohio State, Indiana, A&M, Alabama, Georgia, you know, you can pretty much figure out.
04:42Notre Dame will probably be 10 because they're a two-loss team.
04:45But I think in the top 10, Notre Dame is the only two-loss team right now that should be considered to get in.
04:52You got a lot of undefeated and one-loss teams here, Donnie, in big conferences.
04:55You know, they're with huge games coming up over the next couple of weeks.
05:00So a lot of this is going to change over the next two to three weeks.
05:04Exactly.
05:05And we never get the best teams in the college football playoff because nothing is relative.
05:08Everybody doesn't play the same schedule.
05:10You have an ACC schedule.
05:11You better be running the table out there like, oh, Miami, too.
05:13No, Miami's two losses in the ACC are compoundable to four losses in the SEC, which is the way it should be translated through.
05:19But we'll have those winners and losers by the time we get to the top 12, but at least it's 12.
05:23So if you're 13, 14, and 15 and expected to get in, that's a you problem.
05:28That's not anybody else's problem.
05:29Like, oh, got to be in the top two.
05:30No, you got to be in the top 12.
05:31Don't lose three games.
05:32How about that and make it into the college football playoff?
05:35But having said that, too, the Heisman Trophy race.
05:37Julian Sane, the leader in the clubhouse, Joe, plus 175, followed by Fernando Mendoza.
05:41How about this?
05:42Number one team.
05:43Number two team.
05:44Same in the Heisman Trophy race for the players themselves.
05:46Both kids deserve to have their names up there, Donnie, and to have those kinds of odds because
05:53they have been absolutely phenomenal.
05:56I think Reed is interesting with Texas A&M undefeated.
06:01They have played, to me, they have the 14th toughest schedule, strength of schedule here.
06:05So, you know, I think when you look at some of those things with some of the Indiana and
06:09Ohio State have played some of the worst teams in the country.
06:13So, it's kind of hard to get a feel like, all right, so what are they going to be against?
06:17Let's say they played a top 10, top 15 strength of schedule.
06:21Are we having the same conversation?
06:23Are they the same odds?
06:24But there's no denying they have been absolutely lights out and a big reason why those teams
06:29are one and two in the country.
06:32Lining up this weekend, 7.30 p.m.
06:34LSU with a new head coach, at least we should say an interim head coach, going to take on
06:38the Alabama Crimson Tide.
06:39The look ahead number was around six and a half to seven points.
06:41No longer that, Joe, nine and a halves and tens across the landscape as a favor towards
06:46the Alabama Crimson Tide in a total, let's say 49 and a half.
06:49Does Bama roll in this game or do you get a bump because Brian Kelly's out?
06:53Maybe the players just didn't like him and say, we'll show you Brian Kelly and go knock
06:56off top five Bama in Tuscaloosa.
06:59Well, I mean, reports are, I don't even have any idea what the players' names were.
07:03So, this will be interesting here.
07:06Yeah, you would think with the, you know, the good old coaching bump here, that fired
07:11coaching system, that you would maybe get a little bit more LSU money.
07:15But this offense is just putrid, Donnie.
07:18They are not what they were.
07:19They have injuries to a couple of all-American linebackers on defense that has really hurt
07:25them.
07:26I think Alabama rolls in this spot.
07:28I don't think this is a spot where LSU rids themselves of Brian Kelly and all of a sudden
07:33fixes their woes here.
07:34I don't believe that's the case.
07:36I think Alabama wins this one.
07:38By the way, there's no great way to leave like a university, but the way Brian Kelly
07:42left Cincinnati was awful.
07:43Even worse, the way he left Notre Dame.
07:45And now he's at LSU and just feel like he's just a creep and nobody bought in and everything
07:49was fake around them.
07:50It's amazing how you could fake it till you make it up.
07:52You know, put Cincinnati back on the map, let's just say, go to Notre Dame, you know,
07:56put them back in the national spot, like on the LSU.
07:59And basically sound like, I was hamstrung in Cincinnati and also Notre Dame.
08:02Now I have all the money in the world at LSU to dominate and you don't dominate and you
08:05get fired after a few quick years here.
08:07That's the Brian Kelly experiment.
08:08We'll see if LSU has any fight left in the tank, taking on Alabama this weekend.
08:12Texas A&M and Missouri, another SEC battle here.
08:15A&M, seven and a half to seven as a favorite, depending where he's shopping at on the road,
08:19taking on a top 20 Missouri team here.
08:22The total, Joe, 52 and a half at the opening number.
08:24We're down to 47 and a half.
08:26A&M and Missouri.
08:27Can A&M keep the good times rolling?
08:30Yeah, this is going to be a big one.
08:32Some injury concerns with Missouri coming out of that game against Vandy, namely their quarterback
08:37who left there.
08:40This is a, this is going to be a big spot here for both of these teams.
08:44Yeah.
08:45It feels like Texas A&M is on a path here that they're going to have an opportunity to be
08:52one of the top five teams in the country.
08:54They, they are humming on all sides, both defensively and offensively, kind of like the spot that
09:00they're in right now.
09:01How about BYU and Texas Tech battle of the big 12 here?
09:05The interesting part about this is BYU, is the Banser going to play for the BYU team?
09:09We'll see if that find out here.
09:1010 point spread, Baron Morton and the Raiders, nine and one versus eight and oh, top 10 battle.
09:17Feels like an elimination game at some point here, Joe.
09:19Yeah, and Donnie, these are the two best, two of the better defenses in the country right
09:25now.
09:25That BYU defense is lights out and so is Texas Tech's here.
09:30This is going to be for all the marbles with these two teams here.
09:33BYU sitting undefeated.
09:35Now they're going to have to go on a road here.
09:37I think Tech has got them in this one, but I'm not sure we're going to get 53 points in
09:44that game either with these two defenses.
09:46Week 11 in college football, and again, I always like to say, like, usually we're winding
09:51down the college football season in November, then you got to wait a month till bowl games.
09:54That ain't the case anymore, man.
09:55You go right through November, right through December, right through January.
09:59You got three full months of college football here to decide a national championship.
10:03I love this, man.
10:04We'll get, watch it this weekend as it plays out here.
10:06Big games on a week-to-week basis, and we keep you informed right here on the Early Line.
10:10Full slate tonight, Joe.
10:19NHL, you got college basketball, you got college football, you got everything at your disposal.
10:23Where are you going to for a good play tonight for the people?
10:27Well, where else, Donnie?
10:28I mean, it's Tuesday, and it's match in action.
10:31Like, what are we doing here?
10:32Let's go to the battle here of Ohio as Ohio U taking on Miami of Ohio, the Red Hawks taking
10:40on the Bobcats here, and it's rinse and repeat with good old Chuck Martin and Miami of Ohio.
10:48Now, they do have a little revenge on their mind in this game, Donnie.
10:52They got absolutely destroyed by Ohio in the MAAC title game last year, 38-3.
10:58But this year, once again, Chuck Martin, they are playing their best football when this time
11:05of year rolls around, 51-20 in conference play since 2016.
11:10This team is with Chuck Martin, 18-2 run since the start of 2023, and they're already 6-2
11:17against the number this season, and 4-0 in conference games against the number.
11:22And I'm getting points in this one here, Donnie, against Ohio, whose defense is not
11:28very good.
11:29Daquan Finn playing some of his best football at quarterback for Miami of Ohio.
11:35I'll take him.
11:35If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
11:37They have been a solid bet this time of year for decades now.
11:41I got no problem taking the points on the road in a revenge spot for Miami of Ohio.
