00:00Here's the chance of a lifetime.
00:02The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine,
00:06an opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com,
00:09a $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel,
00:15and $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
00:23Top 10 designers, there you go.
00:26Woo-hoo! Yes! Halfway to Bryant Park.
00:30Now it's really serious competition.
00:33Now it's when all the stops have to be pulled out.
00:37Might be a two-day challenge. I'm ready for this one.
00:40Jay!
00:43Top 10!
00:45This is insane.
00:47From the very beginning, I was so nervous that I'm going to go home first.
00:52Hit the shower. You hit the shower!
00:55I just have to knock down seven more people, and then top three here I come bitches.
01:02I'm ready to move on to the next challenge.
01:04Yeah.
01:06On one hand, I feel like it's kind of a bummer that so many women have gone home.
01:10But on the other hand, it's a little bit empowering to think that Amy and Maya and I are the strongest women here.
01:16Lee is four.
01:18He's returned.
01:19Yes, four!
01:20Yes, four!
01:21Oh, four.
01:23Grab your verse, Jonathan.
01:25Hello.
01:26Hi.
01:27It's time for your next challenge.
01:28There are only ten of you left, so the competition is heating up.
01:44Seth Aaron, you won the last challenge, so therefore you have immunity for this week.
01:49Cool.
01:50For your next challenge, I'm sending you on a little trip to meet Tim and one of America's favorite designers.
01:57And they will give you all of the tools you will need for the next challenge.
02:02Good luck and I'll see you on the runway.
02:05Bye.
02:06Bye, Heidi.
02:12So Heidi says we're going to meet America's favorite designer.
02:14Tim and that designer are going to give us the tools to complete our look.
02:20Oh, Lord.
02:21What are we going to be doing now?
02:24We arrive at the Michael Kors store in Soho and it's really exciting.
02:29He's got a beautiful store.
02:31Good morning, designers.
02:33Good morning.
02:34Please say hello to a familiar face.
02:36Hello.
02:37Hey, guys.
02:38Welcome to my Soho store here in New York City.
02:41I'm very excited to talk to you guys about today's challenge.
02:44I really want to see you guys push the envelope and I want you to think a little outside of the box
02:49and think in an unconventional way.
02:51So today, for your challenge, you are going to be shopping at a hardware store.
03:01We're going to be creating a look using materials from a hardware store.
03:05And I honestly could not be more excited.
03:08I don't feel good about this.
03:09This is not what I do.
03:10I don't make crafty things.
03:13I make very sophisticated dresses.
03:16Guys, in addition to apparel, you will be designing an accessory to complement and enhance your look.
03:23So guys, it is so important to think about a head-to-toe look from fabulous hair and makeup down to the feet and a fabulous accessory.
03:32You know what?
03:33Get shopping.
03:34Michael, thank you so much and they won't disappoint you, will you guys?
03:37No.
03:38All right, let's head to the hardware store.
03:39Thanks, guys.
03:40Good luck.
03:45Designers, welcome to Scheman and Grant Hardware, which is a very inspiring place.
03:50You have a budget of $150 each.
03:53You will have 35 minutes to shop and your 35 minutes starts right now.
03:59Who's here?
04:00I need someone.
04:01Hardware is not cheap.
04:02That really worries me as far as getting enough materials and getting the right materials to
04:11be able to make something spectacular.
04:12Do you want to do like sheets of metal?
04:14I love this challenge.
04:15I'm really excited.
04:16I have some experience working with, you know, strange objects.
04:20I've made some dresses out of screen before.
04:23Designers, you have five minutes remaining.
04:26Not only do you have to make a garment using these supplies from the hardware store, you
04:29also have to make an accessory.
04:33Everyone has sheets of metals or things that you can buy yardage of.
04:38I went the other route.
04:39I have some washers and some cord.
04:42That's all I have.
04:43Oh, I think I'm over budget right now.
04:45I'm going to try and make garbage bags feel like a leather material.
04:50I don't know how I'm going to accomplish that.
04:53Designers, you have one minute remaining.
04:55Ah!
04:56That's it.
04:57Scream for help.
04:58The first thing that pops into my head is sandpaper.
05:02Just because of the different textures and the different colors, I think it's going to
05:05be perfect to use for a challenge like this.
05:08All right, designers.
05:09That's it.
05:10No more shopping.
05:11Time's up.
05:12Oh, wait.
05:13No, you got two of these yourself?
05:14Yeah, two.
05:15Oh, then you don't have enough.
05:16I realize that I'm way over budget and I have to leave half of my cord and half of my washer.
05:24So I'm working with less material and I have to make it happen.
05:28It's just one of those challenges.
05:29They can go any way.
05:30All right, designers.
05:31Let's head back to Parsons.
05:33Thank you, Shea Men and Grant.
05:35Yeah!
05:36All right, designers.
05:38You have until midnight tonight and precious little time tomorrow.
05:58Okay?
05:59All right.
06:00The winner of this challenge will have immunity and therefore cannot be eliminated in the
06:04next challenge.
06:05So make it work.
06:07Okay?
06:08I can't wait to see what you do.
06:17I know that a lot of the designers are going to take the easy way out, which is to make a
06:22decision.
06:23I want to challenge myself and come up with something that is a pair of pants that will
06:28fit well, which is probably going to be challenging because what can you do with a trash bag?
06:35Looking around the room, it's definitely, it's crazy.
06:38I mean, we've all got real different ideas and we're all going for them.
06:42So you kind of hope, not in a mean way, but hope somebody crashes and burns so then you
06:46can go, all righty, I'm okay because he's screwed.
06:51I'm making a necklace and it's going to be a rather large necklace, which is going to
06:56be pretty heavy since it's made of keys.
06:58And it's going to be the focal point of the piece.
07:02The judges always talk about innovation.
07:04At this point, I'm thinking that the innovative part of my garment will be taking something
07:09that is hard and industrial and giving it a very soft and airy feel.
07:16Who doesn't know what they're doing?
07:18Who's cool as me?
07:21It's a huge pain in the ass to work with hardware.
07:23You really have to spend a lot of time getting accustomed to all these wacky new materials.
07:28Ladies and gentlemen, straight off the periodic table of elements, copper.
07:33I like Jonathan because he's just so damn funny.
07:36Everything that he says is hilarious.
07:38We have a lot of fun just laughing together and it kind of takes the stress off.
07:42I noticed that everyone else is molding bodices out of metal and to me that's been done.
07:52My plan of attack is to create a Paco Rabanne slash macrame dress using the washers and the cord.
08:00But I don't have enough washers or cords.
08:03I may not have a full dress.
08:05I see Emilio's piece and I'm thinking in the back of my head, I'm like, what the hell is he making?
08:11He's making a stripper outfit.
08:13We are making space suits.
08:15This is fashion, honey.
08:16And stripper costumes.
08:17And stripper costumes.
08:18We've got the macrame going on.
08:21It's definitely creative.
08:23You know what?
08:24Just shut your face up.
08:26I meant that in a good way.
08:27Whatever.
08:28It is what it is.
08:30Coming up on Project Runway.
08:34I can't believe my trunk.
08:37I was sewing it.
08:39What is it with you guys and this copper?
08:41What?
08:42It's a garbage bag.
08:43Yes.
08:44Jay.
08:45I'm going to have to move out of New York.
08:48This is looking tortured.
08:49The object of this game is to take tools from a hardware store and make something that has
09:02some wearability.
09:03It's a lot of luck.
09:04There's a lot to do, yeah.
09:06I'm very frustrated today and the pressure is mounting.
09:09Everyone is just trying to work with these materials that aren't really made to create
09:14clothing with.
09:15So much for our manicures, Maya.
09:17I had no idea what I was in store for when I got the copper because, as of right now,
09:21my hands look like I've been attacked by a feral animal.
09:25Are you color blocking the pang?
09:27Color block, take me away.
09:29I'm hoping that the judges don't get sick of my black and white element.
09:33That's always been a signature for me.
09:42Should've just had her in the counter direction.
09:47There's a lot of chaos and noise.
09:49It's just not an ideal situation for me to create my best work.
09:54Is that stuff sticky?
09:55Yeah.
09:56Because I got some sticky crap here and I'm like, oh, it's sticky.
10:00The skirt material is this mesh that when I opened it I realized it's sticky.
10:04I wanted a nice flowy skirt to counteract the really strict corseted bodice.
10:09So basically I'm screwed because this is like the largest piece of tape you've ever seen in your life.
10:15I'm making leather out of trash bags.
10:18This is a dream that I've been wanting to fulfill since I was little.
10:23I want this badly and my parents would be so proud of me if I won Project Runway.
10:29They know that this is what I want to do in life.
10:31I'm the fifth in the family.
10:33I have a younger sister and I remember when we were little that we've always fought for everything that we want in life.
10:41And to me that tells a lot about me as a person and as a competitor.
10:53I was able to sew through the copper flashing.
10:55Through the who?
10:56This.
10:57You are lying.
10:59Many of us in the room are finding a way to sew our materials.
11:02So I flipped my dress inside to sew the back seam.
11:06It went in like this and it came out like that.
11:09These materials are really starting to control me.
11:12Order five dollars for a roll of duct tape and it does not feel like it sticks to anything.
11:18The rope that I bought at the hardware store is Venetian blind cord.
11:22I'm hoping that I'll be able to sew it and I hope that it goes through the machine because if not, I'm going to have to do a lot of hand stitching.
11:31Hi everybody.
11:32I feel like I'm in the arms and armor wing of the Met.
11:35All right, I'm here to check in with you.
11:37Mila.
11:38Obviously it's very mod inspired with the black and white and I'm really just using paint tray liners and gaffers tape.
11:46What's really supporting it on her?
11:48Will this sit on her hip?
11:50I might have to contour it a little bit more.
11:52What are you doing for the accessory?
11:54I'm going to do a really wide cuff.
11:57Using this as a cuff you're saying?
11:59Uh-huh.
12:00I just like that it had text on it.
12:02Mm-hmm.
12:03Very exciting.
12:04Mila, thank you.
12:05Thank you, Tim.
12:06Jesse.
12:07Jim.
12:08So talk to me.
12:09I was thinking sort of Elizabethan sort of, uh...
12:12Elizabethan mini?
12:13Well, I'm just, I'm, the skirt is a work in progress.
12:17So are you going to cover all this text on?
12:20I don't know, uh...
12:22This is looking so school project, school play.
12:26Not even high school or college, like elementary school.
12:30What is it with you guys and this copper?
12:36This is all hand seamed with metal wire.
12:40You'd never know.
12:41What are you doing for the accessory?
12:43I was thinking of doing a hair piece.
12:45All right.
12:46A little cap, kind of.
12:47Something that would, like, comb up the back of the head
12:49into the top, into the crown.
12:50Sort of that Dior, old school, really odd, crazy hat kind of thing.
12:54Just watch the costume aspect of the whole thing.
12:57Thank you, Jesse.
12:58Thanks, Tim.
12:59Tim, how are you?
13:02What are you doing?
13:03I am creating intergalactic macrame flapper something.
13:10What is it?
13:11A mini skirt?
13:12Is it a bikini?
13:13A mini skirt.
13:14And do you have enough of the hardware?
13:16I hope so.
13:17I don't know.
13:19You may end up with a bikini.
13:21I can't, because last time one of my dresses was too short.
13:24I have to work it out, Tim, honestly.
13:26I just...
13:27Okay.
13:28There's a doozy.
13:29Well, your innovation can be the presentation of a bottomless dress.
13:35Okay.
13:37Thank you, Tim.
13:38Tim.
13:39I knew by the color it was you.
13:40What are you doing?
13:41So I'm probably gonna just keep my structure at the top, but explore some different things
13:44at the bottom, because I'm not officially impressed with the way this has turned out so far.
13:49The fact that you can see that...
13:50Well, that's why I only did half.
13:51This looks tortured.
13:53Trying to just manipulate it through that machine, it just took a turn for horror.
13:57It's not pretty.
13:58Tim's visit confirmed what I already am trying to do anyway.
14:02I think that we're on the same page.
14:03We are on the same page.
14:04All right.
14:05And that's really just abandoning the original skirt and moving forward with something that's light and airy and where the fabric just won't look as tortured.
14:13So, Jay.
14:14Hi.
14:15We went to a hardware store to shop.
14:18How did you make a pair of leather pants?
14:20Right?
14:21This is what I came up with.
14:22What is it?
14:23Well, this, it's garbage bag.
14:25What is, it's a garbage bag?
14:26Yes.
14:27I mean, if I'd seen you with a box of garbage bags, I would have said, Jay, the pants are spectacular.
14:35How, how does she get in and out?
14:37Um, there's, well, I wanted a side zipper, but I'm gonna have to sell this on her.
14:41Yeah, you will.
14:42Um, as I'm building it, it's shrinking.
14:44At this point, it's too late.
14:46Um, I'm just hoping it'll fit her.
14:48Oh, listen, if the pant goes away because of the fit, that's a problem.
14:52Yeah, yeah.
14:53Well, what are you doing for your accessory?
14:54Maybe a belt.
14:55I think she needs a belt.
14:56But it's important.
14:57So don't let it be 11.30 and then suddenly, whoops, my accessory.
15:02Yeah.
15:03All right, thank you, Jay.
15:04Okay, thank you.
15:05Maya.
15:06Hi.
15:07What are you doing?
15:08I'm intrigued.
15:09This is the collar.
15:10It's gonna go like this.
15:12And what's underneath it?
15:13Um, I've done this necklace, set of keys and screen.
15:17That necklace is stunning.
15:20This is my accessory.
15:21And, um, I'm using screen to make a shift dress that's gonna go underneath the jacket.
15:27If you can pull this off, this will be phenomenal.
15:30Cool.
15:31Yeah, I'm really excited about it.
15:32All right, I'm gonna leave you.
15:33Okay.
15:34Work, work.
15:36Thank you, Maya.
15:37All right, designers.
15:38I'm going to leave you for tonight.
15:40And I have to say, you have a lot of work to do.
15:44So if there were ever a make it work moment, I think it's this challenge.
15:49I'm sending in your models.
15:51Thank you, everybody.
15:52Make it work.
15:53This is wackadoo stuff.
15:54My design concept is Veronica Lake meets C-3PO.
16:07And the accessory is going to be a clutch.
16:10I wish I had more time to devote to this accessory.
16:13That could be the make or break point for this runway show.
16:15Can they not fit?
16:16Oh, my God.
16:18This is freaking me out.
16:20She can't even put her feet through the pants at this point.
16:23And I'm just livid and freaking out.
16:26I can't believe my shrunk.
16:27I was sewing it.
16:28I'm so annoyed.
16:29I feel like it'll be okay.
16:32You know what I think the look we should go for?
16:35Valley of the Dolls, 2009.
16:37Holly walks in.
16:39I don't have anything to even try on her.
16:41And I'm trying to cover a six-foot-tall blonde Amazon woman.
16:46I thought I got enough washers that it would work.
16:50But it's not working.
16:52So we're making a bathing suit.
16:54I am losing it.
16:55If you need me to Crisco, I will.
17:05Thinking I'm not going to finish.
17:06How about you?
17:07I'm going to have to move out of New York.
17:09After the hardware incident, Emilio Sosa had disappeared.
17:16I cut two inches straps of the material that I have
17:20and put them on both sides of the pant.
17:22And I just hope that it's going to fit her
17:24when she comes back tomorrow and tries the pants again.
17:28As far as accessories,
17:29I want to come up with a really sexy belt
17:32that's going to singe Brittany in around the waist.
17:35Time to cut more squares.
17:37Ben and Jonathan both picked up the copper flashing
17:40that I picked up.
17:41And I've decided that I do have paint.
17:43So I'm definitely going to use it to transform
17:45what I've made into something
17:47that's even more than just copper flashing.
17:49But there's nothing I can do at this point.
17:52Time's been spent and it is what it is.
17:54Because at this point, there's no chance to redesign.
17:56Coming up on Project Runway.
18:00I had to make a drastic change in our outfit.
18:03Don't freak out.
18:04How do we keep the bikini bottom up?
18:06I don't think that it's done in the best of taste.
18:09You got five minutes.
18:21It's the morning of the show and I just can't wait for this show
18:25because it's so out of the ordinary.
18:28Maybe for this challenge to be over.
18:31I just can't wait to use fabric again.
18:33I know.
18:34My fingers are like raw.
18:36This is a runway first.
18:38Everyone is in the bottom ten.
18:40It would be funnier if it wasn't true.
18:42I feel comfort in the fact that we're all
18:44in a bit of a cray cray sort of out there direction.
18:48There's a safety in numbers with that.
18:50You ten had the lowest scores.
18:52Oh my God.
18:53It's really hard to be excited this morning at the runway show
18:57because so many variables go into this kind of challenge.
19:03The dress could fall apart at any second.
19:05You're making your bed today.
19:07Oh my God.
19:08Yes.
19:09I grew up into an adult overnight.
19:11Amazing.
19:12All right.
19:14Bloody fingers crossed.
19:16Let's go face the day.
19:18I don't want to.
19:22Do you need this again?
19:23Uh, not right this second.
19:24Actually, yes I do.
19:25Screw sewing.
19:26Use tape.
19:27I think we've got a whole new definition of costuming.
19:43End of the work room.
19:44Time to get things done.
19:45I taped off all the interior of my bodice so it didn't shred
19:48Alexis's shoulders and then started just going tape happy.
19:51Good morning designers.
20:07How is everybody?
20:08I'm stressed.
20:10Stressed I know.
20:11You have a lot of work to do.
20:12I am about to send in your models.
20:14You will have an hour each to send them to the Garnier Hair Salon
20:18hair salon in the L'Oreal Paris makeup room use the bluefly.com wall and I'll
20:23be back to bring you down to the runway a little later okay all right everybody
20:27go go go make it work thank you
20:37good I had to make a drastic change in our outfit I had to make you a bikini
20:48so cool just Monique herself and her you know hair color and skin color with the
20:53combination of the tones of the sandpaper I think is a really beautiful
20:57combination I'm really excited let's try this on at this point it's all about just
21:02sewing in the garment onto the model but my problem is I'm working with a
21:07plastic garbage bag and once you put a hole in that material it's permanent
21:14it's there so she can't really go and pee
21:19I'm not worried don't freak out let's go
21:24it's a really good job
21:31wow
21:33really make it work
21:35yeah
21:37yeah
21:38yeah
21:39yeah
21:40yeah
21:41yeah
21:42yeah
21:43yeah
21:44yeah
21:45yeah
21:46yeah
21:47yeah
21:48yeah
21:49yeah
21:50yeah
21:51I have put all these washers on the bikini bottom and they were too heavy so they
21:55wouldn't stay up
21:56we'll put the top on and maybe I can join them together
21:59so then we are scrambling in the last hour how do we keep the bikini bottom up
22:06you know I'm thinking if I do some to tie this to there
22:09yeah it could be one
22:10okay but just hold on I'm gonna do it on you
22:12okay that's fine
22:13Emilio's garment not only is it naked I don't think that it's done in the best of taste
22:20the one thing that never goes out of style is making a woman look like a lady and the
22:25other person that I'm scared for is Jessie Jessie's garment looks tortured and not only
22:31does Jessie's garment look tortured Seth Aaron's garment looks tortured and so does Ben's garment
22:36they all of those garments look tortured
22:39this is surprisingly comfortable
22:41designers and models in ten minutes we are going down to the runway all right make certain you are ready
22:47thank you I'll be back
22:49Carrie's able to slip into the dress it is a little big but I think with this kind of material I definitely
22:55don't want any cuts or scrapes or you know the last thing I want to do is physically harm my model
22:59I feel so happy about my look I want it to look like real fashion and not an arts and craft project
23:07I want it to be mod rock star and it was perfect it's like Peggy Moffat meets Pink
23:18designers and models this is it the moment of reckoning we're going down to the runway follow me please
23:26so the look fits Alexis great you know if I gotta defend this thing I'll defend it all the way to the grave designers and models
23:34just start walking just take that with me
23:37the bikini is too short the hair is too big the makeup is too much everything is to the extreme but it's definitely a head to toe fully committed look
23:47Emilio yes sir please
23:49if I was going to jump off the cliff I went full throttle
23:53thank you
23:55coming up on project runway
24:00she looks really cheesy
24:02I mean that's a full cheese fest
24:04boring
24:05honestly it looks like kind of a bad prom dress
24:17welcome to the runway
24:19as you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out
24:24there are ten of you here and after tonight there will be nine
24:27Seth Aaron you won the last challenge which gives you immunity and you cannot be eliminated this week
24:33for this challenge Michael Kors asked you to create a look and an accessory that shows innovation
24:39creativity and your point of view as a designer
24:43he sent you to a hardware store not a fabric store to get your supplies
24:48okay let's meet the judges
24:50first we have top American designer Michael Kors
24:53hey guys
24:54hey guys
24:55fashion director for Marie Claire magazine Nina Garcia
24:58hi everyone
25:00fashion designer whose dress was worn by first lady Michelle Obama at the president's inauguration Isabel Toledo
25:08and Stephen Webster world-renowned jewelry designer
25:15we will score your designs as they come down the runway
25:19one of you will be named the winner
25:21and one of you will be out
25:24okay let's start the show
25:26I think this piece is really representative of me as a designer
25:33it references the past but I think it's modern
25:37I really pushed myself on this one and it really shows the graphic nature of my work
25:47the look floats wonderfully and Alexis wears it really well
25:52whether somebody loves it or hates it they're interested in it
25:55and I think that's my goal ultimately with this kind of challenge and I think I definitely succeeded in that
26:00this dress has achieved every single thing I wanted it to
26:05the movement around Carrie's body the sheen of the copper under the runway lights
26:10the harmony between the color of her and the dress is absolutely perfect I couldn't have asked for anything better
26:15I love this dress it looks like fashion it looks like fabric it is very feminine it is sexy
26:25and to me that's what fashion should be
26:32the dress looks like it's just like levitating around her which is kind of cool
26:37like it's resting on her shoulders but it doesn't touch the rest of her body
26:40it does have a sense of futurism it does look a little retro too
26:43it definitely embodies what I would have done with fabric anyway
26:46Holly turns the corner and literally you can hear people's jaws drop
26:53I don't know if it's dropped because she looks amazing or they're thinking what the hell just happened
26:59it's such a strong look that either you like it or you hate it there's no in between
27:05I don't think anyone on this earth would have realized that that came out of a hardware store
27:09that's me as a designer I have goosebumps at this point watching her walk down the runway
27:19I've pushed myself to come up with something amazing out of trash bag
27:26it's incredible I mean it's exactly what I was going for there's nothing I would change
27:34and my model she's loving it really confident in what I did so I'm feeling awesome
27:43the silhouette and the fit are great on her
27:48I created a pattern that is interesting and the usage of the sandpaper to create a kind of textile
27:54is definitely representative of how I like to work
27:57she looks sophisticated and fashion-forward I can see the judges like really studying her
28:07and that's a good sign because I want them to wonder what is that made of
28:16if I call your name please step forward Ben Jonathan Amy Seth Aaron please step forward
28:24if I have called your name congratulations your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge
28:31you can leave the runway
28:37the rest of you represent the highest and the lowest scores
28:41one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
28:46let's bring out your models
28:48Mila tell us about your look and what it is made of
28:55these are paint tray liners
28:58and I was just really inspired by the glossy black and white
29:02I knew that with this I wanted to do something kind of mod
29:05and graphic and I love the texture of them
29:08I thought it was extraordinary
29:10the fact that you've made it flow it's amazing
29:13now something that naturally stiff I guess just by cutting it up is brilliant
29:17and that accessory it's definitely the wittiest accessory
29:21I didn't know what it said but that's brilliant
29:23I like the transformation of the material too
29:25I think that's amazing
29:27Bravo indeed
29:28thank you
29:29Emilio tell us about your look and how you made it
29:31I wanted to create a very strong sexy woman
29:35so I used three different sizes of washers and twine and bolts and wire
29:43to create a bathing suit look
29:46I want to ask Emilio what happened?
29:49why did you choose not to do any clothing?
29:52I figured everyone was going to do a dress
29:54and a swimsuit is something that you probably wouldn't
29:57associate with a hardware store
29:59I like the full effect because she looks like a Barbie doll
30:01and I think you just went with it
30:03but the simple truth is she looks really cheesy
30:06I mean that's a full cheese fest
30:08I think thank God you figured out to make it into a one piece
30:12or you'd have a bottomless moment here on Project Runway
30:16I can't find a pattern to it
30:18it just looks thrown on
30:20I like all the thoughts you had about everybody else was going to make a dress
30:24so what else could you do?
30:26I mean you gave a lot of thought to it which I appreciate
30:28Thank you very much
30:29Anthony
30:30Hi
30:31Tell us about your look
30:33I thought that my innovation for this particular challenge was taking the harsh mesh that was attacking me
30:39and finding a way to bring some softness to it
30:42Honestly it looks like kind of a bad prom dress
30:46It seems too boring
30:50You struggle to make this so pretty and so soft that you missed the point
30:56I would have loved to have seen something that I would have thought
30:58Wow, that's genius
31:00You should have gone with the fact that you're in a hardware store
31:02I think, uh, Anthony, I think you went to the software store, didn't you?
31:05Not the hardware store
31:07Maya, tell us about your look
31:09I wanted to create a jacket that was see-through and open weave
31:12And this is screen, the dress is screen
31:15I knew I had to do an accessory
31:17And I saw these keys and they really called out to me
31:19And they were sort of like jewels
31:21And I mixed them in with the chain
31:22And the silver is actually a dog collar
31:25This was truly a head-to-toe look
31:28They were normal pieces looked at in an abnormal way
31:32Thanks
31:33The jacket, the necklace, the hair
31:35You showed restraint and just held back on the dress
31:39And it was just the right thing to do
31:41You would not think that this look comes out of the hardware store
31:45If you would see this shot in Marie Claire magazine
31:49You would not question it
31:51Jesse, tell us about your look
31:53So I, uh, grab copper flashing
31:55Which is what the bodice is made out of
31:57And then this mesh, which is like a drywall, uh, fixer
32:01And everything's getting cinched around the waist
32:03With some wire
32:05It feels a little bit like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz
32:08I do like the hair, it works well with the hair, so that's a good look
32:12I think her hair with that headband
32:15Is cool and modern looking
32:18And then all of a sudden
32:20She's dressed up as a Hershey Kiss
32:24I don't know what she's dressed up as, but it's a costume
32:27My favorite thing as far as the design detail
32:30Can you turn around?
32:32The asymmetry of the back and the stitching there
32:35Is the only thing that a modern woman in real life
32:39Would say, oh
32:41There's something cool about that
32:43It looks like you're gonna press a button somewhere
32:46It's gonna be a big load of noise
32:47And you start vacuuming the floor with it
32:49So that's really the weakest part
32:50Yeah, it looks like a dirty vacuum bag
32:52A dirty one, yeah
32:54Jay, tell us about your look
32:56This is the outfit that I came up with
32:58And it's made out of trash bags
33:00I added the blue masking tape just to add color to it
33:03I made this braided belt
33:05And a pair of leather pants with these pleat details going on
33:10I think it is amazing
33:13That you made black trash bags look like that
33:18Especially the belt
33:20It looks like a leather woven belt
33:23It's fantastic
33:24Thank you
33:25In a million years
33:27I did not think that this was bias cut trash bags
33:31It took a lot of thinking to get to this
33:34I have to say amazing
33:36Okay, we've heard what you had to say
33:38We're gonna have a little chat
33:40And then I'm gonna call you back
33:42You can leave the runway
33:44Thank you
33:48Let's talk about the ones that did succeed
33:51Let's talk about Mila
33:53I was very impressed with her garments
33:55She really thought about this
33:57She really thought about, you know, the challenge
33:59And it was hard
34:01What she picked as material was very hard
34:04To pick this paint tray
34:06I think that's a real vision
34:11So then you look at someone like Jay, for example
34:13Who we also loved
34:14If you didn't know it was garbage bags
34:16His girl could walk off the runway
34:18And probably go out to dinner
34:19He made a luxury product
34:21A sort of out of the least luxurious thing
34:24And that thing just reeked of luxury
34:29Let's discuss Maya
34:30You could dissemble what she did
34:33They were all pieces that stood on their own
34:36It was very wearable and fashion-forward
34:38All in the same time
34:40Maya's necklace was hands down
34:44The strongest accessory piece we saw on the runway today
34:50Let's move on to the ones that we didn't like so much
34:52What do you think about Emilio's?
34:54I think it's a bloody disaster, really
34:56When he said, well, I knew everyone else was gonna make a dress
35:00So, you know, oh, I'm gonna be crafty and smart
35:04I like that he actually thought, well, everybody else is gonna make a dress
35:08Now it would have been a successful garment
35:10That's different
35:11Yes
35:12It's just not his taste
35:13Oh, cut to the chase
35:14There was no taste
35:15He did hit the hardware store
35:17And get hardware
35:18I don't think it was so bad
35:22Jesse
35:23Tin man Hershey kiss ballerina
35:26Garbage newspaper
35:28Oh
35:30Vacuum bag
35:31Vacuum bag
35:32Oh yeah, that was a good
35:34Dirty vacuum bag
35:35Dirty vacuum bag
35:36These are fabulous fashion references
35:38There was absolutely no artistry
35:39He didn't handle the material as it should have been handled
35:48Anthony
35:49What a bore
35:50I think that he thought he had to make it look like real fabric
35:55I think you would see that on a rack on sale and you'd just go past it
36:01He tried too much to make it pretty
36:04He goes to the hardware store and got conservative and became very uptight
36:09Okay, so we've made our decision
36:15Good, let's bring them back out
36:19Good, let's bring them back out
36:27The six of you will present the best and the worst
36:30One of you will be named the winner
36:32And one of you will be out
36:34One of you will be named the winner
36:38One of you will be named the winner
36:41One of you will be named the winner
36:44One of you will be out
36:48Maya, you're in, you can leave the runway
36:50Thank you
36:52Beneath the runway.
36:59Jay, congratulations.
37:02You are the winner of this challenge.
37:08This is crazy.
37:10What you did was truly amazing.
37:12And we've seen many garbage bags on Project Runway.
37:16But never quite like this.
37:18Your outfit was creatively inspired.
37:20And very you.
37:22You also have immunity for the next challenge.
37:24And cannot be eliminated.
37:26You can leave the runway.
37:30I won this challenge number two!
37:34Second one.
37:36This is insane.
37:38I won!
37:40I'm just a guy who went to a community college in Hawaii
37:44and dropped out and kicking these designers' ass.
37:48I don't know, it just makes me more and more confident
37:50that I could win this all the way through.
37:52Yeah.
37:54Mila.
37:56Another impressive job.
37:59You're in.
38:00You can leave the runway.
38:01Thanks.
38:02Anthony.
38:03You're in.
38:04You can leave the runway.
38:05You're in.
38:06You can leave the runway.
38:07Jesse.
38:08Emilio.
38:09One of you will be out.
38:10Jesse.
38:11Your outfit was disappointing and uninspired.
38:12Instead of transforming your material, the metal still looked like metal.
38:26Also, it was costumey and not fashion.
38:27You were clearly held back instead of liberated by the materials.
38:30Emilio.
38:31Your look was pure Vegas showgirl.
38:32There were hardly any clothes on your model.
38:33And it's not that you're in.
38:34You're in.
38:35You're in.
38:36You're in.
38:37You're in.
38:38You're in.
38:39You're in.
38:40You're in.
38:41You're out.
38:53Jesse.
39:00Jesse.
39:04You're out.
39:09You're out.
39:15That means Emilio, you're in. You can leave the runway.
39:20Thank you for the opportunity.
39:35Coffee doesn't mean Jesse.
39:37Thank you. Thank you, guys.
39:41At this point, I don't think I'm the one who should be going.
39:44I put out a risk and I put out something strong and I built it really well.
39:48So that's where the frustration lies.
39:52It's over.
39:55I just didn't see my time coming this soon.
39:57Well, Jesse, you know I had concerns about your look.
40:00I never anticipated this outcome.
40:02Me neither.
40:03Never.
40:04So I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space.
40:08All right.
40:09Thanks, Tim.
40:10We're going to miss you.
40:12I'll miss you guys.
40:14And I'm happy with what I did and I wouldn't trade this experience for anything else.
40:19Beyond that, you know, see what life brings.
40:21I'm going to work on my line and keep putting stuff out there and you'll see me soon.
40:27See you next time.
