00:00Runway is the chance of a lifetime. The winner of Project Runway will receive a
00:04fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, an opportunity to sell their line on
00:08bluefly.com, a $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business
00:13from HP and Intel and $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
00:30It felt really wonderful to not be in the bottom three, but one thing I figured out about the bottom three is that when you're in the bottom, the only place that you can go is up.
00:51Did you want a tea or did you drink coffee?
00:53Well, being in the bottom three sucks, but I know that really amazing things are going to come
00:59because I might be sweet, but I'm fierce. One thing that's a little disturbing to me and
01:04disheartening is that after coming in second, nobody was really very happy for me.
01:11Nobody said congratulations. Top two, top two. I don't know what that's about. Maybe it's about
01:18jealousy. Maybe it's about they don't feel like I should have been in the top. I'm not really sure, but it was kind of a big bummer.
01:26Come out, Jess. I'm coming. Let's go see what this challenge is about.
01:30Oh, I didn't even check my hair.
01:31Hello. It's time for your next challenge. Amy, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity, and you cannot be eliminated for this challenge. Congratulations.
01:57Thank you. For your next challenge, you will be designing a look that better be picture-perfect.
02:05Tim is going to take you to a spectacular location where he will introduce you to a special guest and fill you in on all of the details.
02:14Good luck, and I'll see you on the runway. Bye.
02:18Bye.
02:18When Heidi announced what the challenge was, in my head, I'm thinking, we're going to a photographer's studio.
02:26We're going to look at old photographs and try to recreate a look.
02:30Excited? Yes. Look at this place.
02:41So we arrive at the Hearst Building, and it's just open and bright and beautiful.
02:45The whole thing is just an amazing look, so I'm super excited just to see what it is we're going to do here.
02:50Designers, it is a sincere honor for me to introduce you to Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Mary Claire Magazine.
02:56Wow.
02:59Joanna, thank you for letting us come.
03:01Oh, my pleasure, and welcome to the Hearst Building. This is where our office is.
03:06Designers, before Joanna continues, I want you to know that this challenge is one of the biggest in the history of Project Runway,
03:14and the reward for the winner of the challenge is unprecedented.
03:19So the challenge is to design an outfit to be worn by a celebrity to appear on the cover of Mary Claire.
03:28Oh, the cover!
03:32Wow.
03:34The opportunity to be on the cover of Mary Claire, it's what's in a lifetime.
03:37It's something that I feel like has so much potential for boosting your career, so ultimately if I win this, I'm just going to be in heaven.
03:45The winning look will appear on the April cover of Mary Claire.
03:50In the last year, the designers who have been featured on the cover have included Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Gucci, just to name a few.
03:59You'll be in that company.
04:00Now, there are some key rules when you're designing for a cover.
04:06It's not just about the outfit.
04:08You have to think about the crop.
04:09We usually go from sort of thigh or waist upwards, so if you're putting detail in there, it probably needs to be in the top part.
04:16You need to bear in mind that we want to put cover lines on the outfit, so think about colour.
04:21We would never do black, and I think patterns can be tricky because you want to get words on there.
04:26It's going to be an April cover, so what will the season be like?
04:30What will they be wearing?
04:31The reader normally takes about three seconds to decide which magazine to pick off the newsstand, so it needs to be eye-catching, strong, confident, sexy.
04:40And can I tell them who the celebrity is?
04:42I'd love you to.
04:44The celebrity is none other than Heidi Klum.
04:52That's huge.
04:53Like, wow.
04:54So not only do we get a cover of one of the best fashion magazines, we get one of the best supermodels in the entire world to wear the look.
05:04It's amazing.
05:05Good luck, guys.
05:06Thank you, Joanna.
05:16All right, designers.
05:19You have 30 minutes to sketch.
05:21I'm pleased to see that you've already started.
05:22And how exciting is this?
05:24One of you will have your design on Heidi Klum on the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
05:30You have one day for this challenge.
05:33I'll be back in 30 minutes.
05:35Thank you, Tim.
05:36My God, if my dress can be on the cover of Marie Claire magazine, I want it to say Mila.
05:46Designing for Heidi Klum is a dream come true and completely intimidating.
05:50I mean, when the garment comes down the runway, she's right there.
05:52I choose an icy color palette, sort of silver and light blue and charcoal gray, because I think that those are colors that could really stand out on her.
06:02I want to design a dress that is form-fitted, short, but not slutty.
06:13I'm really going to focus on color.
06:15That's going to be a huge statement as far as, you know, catching somebody's eye, you know, just from, like, walking by a newsstand.
06:20And I really want someone to see just a glimpse of it and want to see more.
06:28All right, designers, we're going to Mood, so bring whatever you need with you.
06:34And we will have a good shopping experience, all right?
06:42Designers, I have your $150 budget, and you will have 30 minutes to shop.
06:47Everyone, your time will begin right now.
06:52And they're off.
06:55No, no, no, no, no, no.
06:56How much is this stuff here?
06:59I'm picking blues and turquoise and greens.
07:01You know, I'm not quite sure about the mix of colors, but I'm just grabbing.
07:05Can I get two yards of this, please?
07:07Grabbing.
07:08Half a yard of this.
07:09Grabbing.
07:10Yeah, that'll be enough.
07:12Designers, you have one minute remaining.
07:15All right, everybody, one minute to get in line.
07:17Thank you, Mood.
07:34All right, designers, you have until midnight tonight, and you know the morning drill.
07:39There will be very little time.
07:41All right, thank you.
07:42Make it work.
07:42I'll see you later.
07:43Okay.
07:44Bye.
07:44Bye.
07:44Time is absolutely becoming more and more of a factor as we move on.
07:54It just feels even crazier because the stakes are high.
07:57I mean, you get to have your design on the cover of a magazine, and here you go.
08:00You have one day to put it all together.
08:03So the winner gets the cover of Marie Claire magazine, which is so huge.
08:12So everybody's just completely in the zone.
08:14It's pretty quiet around the room right now.
08:16The mood in the workroom is quiet.
08:22It is busy, and that's the reality that everybody's trying to make it work.
08:27I'm going to go to sleep if it remains just quiet in here.
08:35Seth Aaron, he's very immature, and he just doesn't stop.
08:38Like, no matter how many times you have to tell him, like, just shut up.
08:42I wish you was that up.
08:55I shake one hell of a martini.
08:58Lots of 80s rock.
08:59I like lots of 80s pop rock.
09:01Some people just don't know how to just work, chill, and just let your garment do your talking.
09:07Seth Aaron just needs to bring it down a notch.
09:09Let's get your back.
09:11Let's get your back.
09:12Did you smoke anything besides a cigarette when you went outside?
09:16No.
09:18Take your word for it.
09:21The biggest problem that I'm having is the magenta is looking fuchsia.
09:25So I started just playing around with the black metallic nylon that I have and the fuchsia linen,
09:31and it's actually looking better than the sketch.
09:34That's really striking.
09:37Oh, we got a new iron?
09:38New iron.
09:39So you're already in fabric.
09:40Wow.
09:40Well, that's not amazing.
09:43Trust me.
09:43I have a ways to go.
09:44I have taken a lot of the things that the judges are telling me at this point, but I can't afford to beat myself up.
09:52No matter what, I'm going to design something that speaks volumes about Anthony.
09:56Anthony is using a really bright turquoise, and funny enough, Anna's using a very similarly bright turquoise.
10:04Yikes.
10:05I've never made three pieces before, I've only ever made one, so what possessed me to try to make three pieces in nine hours, I'm not quite sure.
10:16The pressure's really on.
10:18Stay threaded.
10:18I'm looking at my colors, I'm looking at my shell pinks and my cream colors, and it's starting to look very bridal, and I don't do bridal.
10:29Like, I'm going along, and I'm thinking I should be doing the opposite of what I'm doing.
10:34You know, like this sort of intuitive, damn it, Janine, like, don't blow this.
10:41Coming up on Project Runway.
10:43They're going to be pretty short.
10:45I mean, you don't want it to look like clown clothes.
10:47That worries me.
10:49It is serious freakout.
10:50What did that happen?
10:51Are you making a dress?
11:06No, I'm making a space suit.
11:10This challenge means more to me than anything to this point in my career.
11:16I mean, competing for a major national cover is unprecedented.
11:21So it's very important to me that I create something that I can really see winning.
11:26With every challenge, I get better and better about dealing with time constraints.
11:31But this particular challenge is kind of frustrating because the reward is huge, and I want my construction to be immaculate.
11:40I don't like that scene at all.
11:42I'm trying not to sort of emote the dread that is boiling up in my stomach.
11:47I should have a point of view, and I just feel like I don't.
11:52I'm probably going to screw myself.
11:54Anna, how's the three pieces going?
11:56Oh my God.
11:57That's okay.
11:58I just really need a fitting, you know.
12:00So here I am working on the shorts, and I think to myself, these need to be really beautifully made because I've had craftsmanship issues in the past,
12:08and I really want to have that not be part of my future.
12:10I'm doing a jacket, a pop, hair pants, and of this.
12:14Seth Aaron, you're like so talented.
12:16Everybody can sew, dude, in here.
12:19My biggest competition at this point is probably half the people in that room.
12:22I feel like Emilio is definitely really strong, and he's got a lot of experience.
12:26I feel the same way about Mila, even though I don't really love her aesthetic.
12:28I feel like the judges do.
12:30I haven't really seen any great competition for me in this challenge so far.
12:34You know, Jay and Maya have some interesting things going on, and yeah, I mean, that's about all I can tell so far.
12:45How is everybody?
12:47Working.
12:48Really?
12:50You don't sound so good.
12:52You sound worn out.
12:54I'm just here to check in with you all, and I'm going to start with Anthony.
12:57Oh.
12:58See?
12:59That's what I mean about the response.
13:02Hi to you.
13:04How are you?
13:05I know I don't sound like my usual chipper self.
13:07Now, this is an intense challenge.
13:09Furthermore, Heidi's going to wear this look.
13:12Right.
13:13I wanted to do a short dress, but I didn't want it to be formal.
13:16All right, can you just give me an idea of what it's going to look like?
13:18Well, that's the thing, Tim.
13:20I don't completely know what it's going to look like.
13:23I just start cutting the strips out.
13:26That worries me.
13:27I don't want you just to gimmick it up.
13:30I don't want you to do this for the sake of doing it.
13:32Right.
13:32Use that editing eye.
13:33If you can take something off and not hurt the integrity of the look, don't do it.
13:37Okay.
13:38Okay, carry on.
13:39I will.
13:42Lila.
13:43Hi, Tim.
13:44I'm eager to see what you're doing.
13:45I'm doing a dress out of stretch wools.
13:48Peach beige cream, like gray, dark gray.
13:50And, you know, it's basically a low V in the front.
13:54It's going to come around to like a sort of a echoing the mitering, a little V in the back.
14:00All right.
14:01So it's your signature, certainly.
14:02It's my signature.
14:03Work, work, work.
14:04Thanks, Mila.
14:08How's Janine doing?
14:09Hi, Tim.
14:09So I picked a lot of like blues and ocean-y colors.
14:14And how are you using these?
14:15Well, I want to layer them so it looks like sort of just waves or something and then...
14:22But this spewing out factor, is that really you?
14:26Well, you know, it's the fifth challenge and I haven't met the judges yet.
14:30That could be a blessing.
14:31No, I understand that, but like I am getting further ahead, but it's like I'm not that
14:36great, but I'm not that bad.
14:38All right, because I know, I mean, you don't want it to look like clown clothes.
14:41I know when to come back a little bit.
14:44Okay, wonderful.
14:47Well, I certainly see color.
14:49Yes.
14:50Yes.
14:51I'm definitely working with color.
14:52The concept is kind of like Madame Butterfly on acid.
14:55So it's one piece.
14:56It will be one piece, yeah.
14:58And then the belt will just separate it, which I'm doing in the metallic leather.
15:02I just fear that it could potentially cheapen it.
15:05Okay.
15:06And make it into a joke.
15:08So with that in mind, as you're working with it, just keep asking yourself the same question.
15:13I will.
15:13Because I'm really with you on everything else.
15:15Carry on, Ben.
15:20Anna.
15:21Hi, Tim.
15:21So talk to me.
15:22What are you doing?
15:22I kind of like the juxtaposition of sort of more of a cooler fabric.
15:28With more of a feminine.
15:30But do you feel this is you?
15:31Yeah, I do.
15:32I do.
15:33So there's going to be this pair of shorts also that completes the bottom half.
15:38And how short are the shorts?
15:39Um, you know, they're going to be pretty short.
15:42All right.
15:43Don't lose your editing eye on this.
15:45Okay.
15:45Thank you, Tim.
15:46All right, Anna.
15:48Emilio.
15:49Hi, Tim.
15:50Color.
15:51Yes.
15:52I'm creating a short little cocktail dress.
15:54Okay.
15:54And then I got this ombre lacing.
15:57I mean, as nice as this ombre is, I don't think anyone's going to notice this.
16:00It's going to be that they're different colors.
16:02Well, what I'm going to do is I'm going to do it, lace it, and then leave them the length
16:06of the dress.
16:07You're emphasizing the neckline using this corseting lacing.
16:12Yes.
16:12Yes?
16:13Yes.
16:14Don't get in a position where you can't do this because that is the wow factor.
16:18That is the wow factor.
16:19Exactly.
16:19Thank you, sir.
16:21All right, designers.
16:22I'm leaving you for the night, and I will say that I'm leaving you for the night reluctantly.
16:27Make it work, everybody.
16:28Thank you, Tim.
16:29Thank you, Tim.
16:29See you tomorrow.
16:34All right.
16:35Let me throw some stitches in this and then just see where we're at.
16:37So Alexis arrives for the model fitting, and I've got basically the front piece of the
16:42dress finished.
16:43So at least I'm in a good place.
16:44I can hold it up and see how the basket weave kind of works around her curves.
16:47Basically, when you're looking at the back, it's this long.
16:50Oh, that's cool.
16:52The color that I'm using is really muted.
16:54I don't know.
16:55I just wanted to do something that's really feminine and sexy.
16:59Hi, Heidi.
17:00Heidi embodies that kind of persona.
17:04Carrie comes in, and I'm a little horrified by how off I was on the shorts.
17:08The shorts are not a good fit, and I also begin to freak out because I can see that there's
17:13not a whole lot of time left.
17:14I see that Anna might need to really pay attention to her hem and the fit of her garment, and
17:21she has very limited experience.
17:23So we'll see what she turns out.
17:25Thank you, hot though.
17:27It's okay.
17:27I'll meet you.
17:28Bye.
17:32Oh, good.
17:33Nobody dared go near my machine.
17:35Mila.
17:37There's something about her that's, you know, kind of fake and not so sincere.
17:42Time for some major assembly here.
17:46Nothing bothers me about Mila the person.
17:48What bothers me about Mila the designer is that she really comes off as very cocky when
17:53all she's doing is color blocking in every challenge.
17:56She's a one-note wonder.
17:59This is the back.
18:01Because they sure do look the same to me at this point.
18:04I just feel like there's so little time in this challenge, and I need to be really focused.
18:11I mean, I'm here to win.
18:13Let me think.
18:14Let me think.
18:15Let me think.
18:15Right now, I'm concerned about my look because I wanted to do something special.
18:21However, I'm not exactly sure how to work through my dress, so I wish they would give
18:26us more time in this challenge, but life isn't fair, so why the hell should Project Runway be?
18:33Oh, my God.
18:34It's 11.50?
18:37How did that happen?
18:39So at the end of the day, I'm in shock.
18:41I need to finish my skirt.
18:42I need to do the hem.
18:43It is serious freak out.
18:45As the night ends.
18:45I know I made a huge mistake because it already looks too short on the dress form.
18:51Unfortunately, I don't have the time to recut this entire dress, so I'm just going to have
18:55to see what the judges say.
18:57It's midnight, and I'm really worried about how things are going.
19:00I just really am trying to work as fast as possible to get everything done on time.
19:05Okay, I'm done.
19:06Wait for me, bitches.
19:11Coming up on Project Runway.
19:13We're going down to the runway right now.
19:16I'm in a mode of hysteria.
19:18I'm like, oh, come on.
19:20I just want to get out of this a lot.
19:30Oh, yeah, yeah.
19:31There's going to be a bloodbath on the runway today.
19:34Yeah, this is going to be a carnival.
19:36We're going to be in the top three again?
19:41Yeah.
19:43Unashiva.
19:45How are you not going to get out?
19:47The prize in this particular challenge is truly a platform for greatness, so it is very
19:53important to me.
19:55Anna.
19:56I have a feeling that our time is running out.
19:58I have a hunch that Anna and I completely missed the mark on this one, and it might come down
20:03between the two of us.
20:05I have a lot of work to do.
20:06So do I.
20:10You forgot your purse.
20:11Now I got it.
20:12I have quite a lot of finishing to do on the shorts.
20:31I'm like in a mode of hysteria.
20:42I'm feeling like I'm pretty much on target.
20:45I think Heidi's going to look amazing in my dress.
20:48I am nowhere near being done.
20:50I mean, I have been nowhere near being done before, but this is like, this is serious.
20:56Designers, this is the biggest challenge in the history of Project Runway.
21:03So I want you all focusing on these garments and making them absolute perfection, okay?
21:09You have an hour each to send your model to the Garnier Hair Salon and the L'Oreal Paris
21:14Makeup Room.
21:15I assume you're all using the bluefly.com wall?
21:18Yes.
21:19Good.
21:20I'm sending in your models.
21:27All right.
21:28Well, cool.
21:31Where is my jacket?
21:34Oh, you'll be fine once I put the zipper on.
21:36To be able to have Heidi wear my dress for the cover of Marie Claire magazine, that's amazing.
21:45Everyone wants this so badly.
21:46Everyone.
21:50Nice smoky gray eye.
21:53I don't want anything dark or costume.
21:57All the adjectives they used to describe me in the pants.
21:59Once it gets past the earlobes, that's when the volume starts.
22:07Make it edgy.
22:11Designers, you and your models and I are going down to the runway in 10 minutes.
22:18The dress did pretty much come out the way I envisioned.
22:23Had I had more time, I probably would have added more volume to the neckline.
22:27But I'm feeling so confident.
22:30I think that the couple of designers who will have trouble, a lot of their colors are not
22:34colors that are going to resonate.
22:35People have these really muted tans and topes.
22:40It's just going to wash out.
22:42If I could go back and do this whole thing over again, I would have gone in a completely
22:54different direction.
22:55Pedal is broke.
22:58Come on.
23:00I just want to get out of this alive.
23:02Yes.
23:03I'm very happy about my dress.
23:05A part of me thinks, Lord, what if they don't like this dress?
23:08But at this point, I got to be consistent with myself.
23:11I made a decision that I was going to make something I love.
23:14And I have got to remain faithful to that thought process.
23:17You did a really great job.
23:18It came out really nice.
23:20Having Lorraine dressed and having her in hair and makeup and everything, the whole look ties
23:25together.
23:26I'm wondering, you know, maybe this is the one.
23:28This could be my moment.
23:29Yeah.
23:30I'm happy.
23:31Designers and models, this is it.
23:33We're going down to the runway right now.
23:39Oh, this way.
23:48Coming up on Project Runway.
23:50It's like three ingredients that leave you feeling nauseous.
23:54This would not work at all.
23:56You know, we've never done this before.
23:58Welcome to the runway.
24:07As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
24:13Your challenge was to design an outfit for the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
24:18The winning designer's look will be on the April cover.
24:22And they will be won by yours truly.
24:25Okay, let's meet the judges.
24:27First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
24:31Hey, guys.
24:32Fashion director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
24:35Hi, everyone.
24:37And editor-in-chief for Marie Claire magazine, Joanna Coles.
24:41Hi.
24:41We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
24:46One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
24:50Let's start the show.
24:53I am happy with my garment.
24:55I think that holly looks great.
24:57I think that it does feel like a spring look.
25:00And I'm actually happy that I'm the only one that used a print, which I completely think is appropriate on a cover.
25:08If they put my suit on the front of Marie Claire with Heidi Klum wearing it, I'll guarantee you they sell more copies.
25:17I'm 300% happy.
25:23I think I definitely fulfilled this challenge to the fullest.
25:26It's really a dress that's going to catch somebody's eye on a cover.
25:29Ultimately, everything kind of dissipates, and it's just a big smile and relief and happiness, and I feel like I just showed exactly what I am.
25:39As I watch Carrie walk down the runway, I really feel like the look is a reflection of who I am as a designer.
25:47Heidi is cool and contemporary.
25:50That version of her, I can see being interested in this look.
25:53When she turns that corner, I'm like, yes, ma'am, get into it.
26:04I found a balance between creating the volume as well as showing off a beautiful silhouette.
26:10I don't know if it's the best dress up there, but I think I did my job beautifully.
26:18I had some issues with bulk, but I think I fulfilled the vision that I'd had going into this.
26:25I feel really great about my dress.
26:28I think it looks great on Brandeis.
26:30I'm just a little concerned about the color because I thought I was selecting a peach, and on the runway, it appears to be more of a beige.
26:43The color is amazing.
26:45The detail, it's spectacular.
26:48My dress was put together, and Heidi will look hot in my dress.
26:52If I were to win this prize, it really would be huge.
27:00I'm so proud of myself that I came up with, you know, something so graceful and flowy and romantic and sexy.
27:12There's something so dramatic about that dress that I love.
27:14This design moves.
27:19It looks like butter.
27:20You can just look at it and see the comfort of this garment.
27:24It's so well crafted.
27:26Every seam and edge is lying flat.
27:29And I think that the romper would be a knockout on a cover.
27:34Megan looks so good in the dress.
27:36She looks stunning.
27:38And the color ends up being so nice on her.
27:40I'm really pleased.
27:45And I think it would look great on a magazine cover.
27:52I couldn't have asked for the color to look any more saturated and vibrant.
27:56And I think the thing that excites me the most is that it really is a fresh, new take.
28:00It's something different, and it ended up being a cover look.
28:03So I just keep my fingers crossed.
28:10If I call your name, please step forward.
28:14Seth Aaron.
28:17Jay.
28:20Maya, please step forward.
28:23Jesse.
28:25Jonathan.
28:28Amy.
28:31If I have called your name, congratulations.
28:35Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
28:39You can leave the runway.
28:47The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
28:52One of you will be named the winner.
28:54And one of you will be out.
28:56Let's bring out your models.
28:57Let's bring out your models.
28:57Ben, tell us about your look, and why do you think it will work for a cover?
29:10The idea is kind of like a modern interpretation of Madame Butterfly and Technicolor.
29:15So I wanted to really use vibrant colors and a lot of textures.
29:19It kind of acts as a kimono, but it still functions as a dress.
29:23A newsstand is a very noisy place.
29:27And I think this cuts through the noise.
29:31It's a good choice.
29:32It feels very modern.
29:34I like the combination of the colors.
29:36And it's as beautiful from the front as it is from the back.
29:40I think you did a beautiful back on this dress.
29:42You know, with the little peekaboo, and then you edged it out with the yellow.
29:46It definitely has an impact.
29:48I think it's going to be worn by someone who's very confident.
29:51It's a real contender.
29:53Thank you so much.
29:54Anna, tell us about your look.
29:57Well, I started sort of with a color palette that I thought would complement your natural
30:01coloring, and immediately thought of blue.
30:03I also wanted to reference that reader of Marie Claire that is sort of contemporary and
30:08hip and a little bit feminine, but not completely whimsical in a sense.
30:12It's going to be on Heidi, who has an incredible figure.
30:17And this gives her no shape or silhouette whatsoever.
30:21It's like three ingredients in a dish that leave you feeling slightly nauseous.
30:26It just doesn't work together.
30:29This is not a teen magazine.
30:31I think you totally missed what is this magazine about, who is their reader, and who am I putting
30:38this on?
30:39Speaking about the pieces themselves, I think that they're made well.
30:43Mm-hmm.
30:43But I don't think you pushed the envelope enough.
30:47Anthony, tell us about your look.
30:48I was truly inspired by you.
30:52I thought about every time that you have grazed this carpet and what you're wearing.
30:55I wanted clean lines, and I wanted a very feminine silhouette, because I did play in my mind, she's
31:00no longer going to be pregnant.
31:02So I'm sure you wanted to celebrate your figure.
31:05The costume drama is over.
31:07You've entered modern times.
31:12This dress is modern looking.
31:15That length is great for her.
31:16And you did one shoulder in a new way.
31:19I do like this dress very much for Heidi.
31:23Jesus.
31:24And you are one of the few designers that embraces color.
31:29The color is fantastic.
31:30If that's where next spring is going to be, then just beam me there.
31:34The way you place this, it's actually very slimming.
31:38So her body looks beautiful.
31:41Okay, Janine, tell us about your look.
31:43I was really inspired by the ocean and the colors of the sea, and I created this structured
31:49dress with these seashell-inspired seam lines with a small sort of frothy little bolero.
31:55She's got, like, the seaweed organza.
31:58She's got 9,000 seams.
32:00All of that going on.
32:02And then I'm going to lay whatever their cover lines are on top of it.
32:07I'm going to pass it by.
32:08It's not, to me, fashion-forward.
32:10It's not like what women in America will look at Maren Claire like, wow, she looks hot.
32:15You know, I want to be that woman.
32:16I'm not getting the beach and the sea reference unless it's a sort of polluted sea with plastic
32:23bottles in it.
32:24It's fierce, too romantic, too bridal.
32:27It's just too sweet all around.
32:30When I see Heidi, I don't necessarily see her as sweet.
32:34No.
32:37Mila, tell us about your look.
32:39I wanted something strong, feminine, but still soft.
32:43And I just thought this would be really slimming at the waist.
32:46Rather than a strong color, I decided to take a chance and go for something fresh and light.
32:52Let's be honest.
32:53That peach comes off like ace bandage.
32:55And then, once you crop her, she's literally in some kind of weird jog bra with a v-neck.
33:02And these arrows look like they're pointing at her crotch.
33:06I mean, this would not work at all.
33:09That color doesn't feel confident.
33:11It feels like it's trying to disappear.
33:13It looked much peachier when it was in my hands.
33:18Emilio, tell us about your look.
33:20Well, I wanted a very sexy, strong color and very interesting detail from the waist up.
33:26So I chose the silk jersey and teamed it with the ombre lacing.
33:31It's not the easiest thing in the world to make jerseys structured.
33:35And I have to say that you managed to take fabric that doesn't want to do that, and you made it work.
33:41You could get a very strong cover with it.
33:44This dress beckoned people to grab the magazine.
33:48I do love the color.
33:50I think the detail is beautiful.
33:52But with those little ribbons going on, it just feels very junior to me.
33:57These here.
33:57Just these things right here.
33:59Here it goes.
34:01Cut the whole strap off.
34:02I'm just curious.
34:02The whole damn strap.
34:04Just watch.
34:05It's more sophisticated by a long shot.
34:08Open the ponytail.
34:09It looks like a bean.
34:10Yeah, let's get rid of old poops.
34:13You know, we've never done this before.
34:15Seriously.
34:17Yeah, it's great.
34:19Thank you very much.
34:20Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
34:22We're going to have a little chat, and then I'll call you back.
34:25You can leave the runway.
34:33Okay, let's start with the designers that weren't as strong.
34:37Janine.
34:38It's so weird that she would design this dress for you.
34:41It's not my style at all.
34:43You said strength.
34:45That's the opposite.
34:46Whimsical and mermaidy, but not a cover dress.
34:50Okay, let's move on to Anna.
34:52That was dreadful.
34:53There's nothing special about this.
34:55I'm not sure what her point of view is.
34:58Granted, she made separates.
35:01She managed to make those shorts.
35:03They were well made.
35:03They were well made.
35:05Okay, let's move on to Mila.
35:07The main color of the dress was the color of hospital food.
35:10I would probably have to put on a lot of self-tanner,
35:13get really tan, in order to fight.
35:16This color.
35:16You would recede right back in this dress,
35:20and I think people would walk on by.
35:23Let's move on to the ones that we did like.
35:25Let's start with Emilio.
35:27There were a lot of things there that were good,
35:29but it had to be sort of redesigned.
35:31Once you got rid of those silly ties that were on her shoulder,
35:35I think cleavage, color, a nice line,
35:39all of those things I think are great for you.
35:42I liked the fact he had his scissors in his pocket,
35:44and he was quite happy to chop them off.
35:46Honestly, when you're doing a cover,
35:47you need a designer to be able to do that.
35:51Okay, let's move on to Ben.
35:52I think Ben did a very modern, very chic dress.
35:57I think this would be very eye-catching on the newsstand.
35:59Definitely.
36:00I agree.
36:00It's fantastic that Ben showed this kind of confidence.
36:04Right.
36:08Okay, let's move on to Anthony.
36:09He thought about your coloring, your figure.
36:12It's got a lot of charm about this dress.
36:15Makes me feel glad springs here.
36:17Even if you were really cropped on that,
36:20the strap itself is interesting enough
36:23that it has dimension and texture.
36:27Okay, so we've made our decision.
36:30Good.
36:31Let's bring them back out.
36:39One of you will have your design
36:41on the cover of Marie Claire magazine,
36:43and one of you will be out.
36:47One of you will have your design
36:52on the cover of Marie Claire magazine,
36:55and one of you will be out.
36:59I want to remind you
37:00that this is one of the biggest rewards
37:02we've ever had for Project Runway Challenge.
37:06And since the reward is so great,
37:08the winner will not have immunity
37:10for the next challenge.
37:13Anthony.
37:17You are the winner of this...
37:18Oh!
37:18Oh!
37:20Real!
37:22Ow!
37:23Ow!
37:31She's like, my name.
37:32The color and design details
37:34are right on.
37:36I really can't wait to wear it
37:37on the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
37:39Oh, thank you so much.
37:42Congratulations.
37:43You can leave the runway.
37:53Guess who's dress will be on the front of Marie Claire?
37:55I think at this moment,
37:59the judges' eyes are open,
38:01and I think that they see
38:02that I have taken things
38:04and critiques that they've said to me
38:05and I'm using them to my benefit
38:07and the sky's the limit for me
38:09at this moment.
38:11Ben, great job.
38:13You're in.
38:14You can leave the runway.
38:20Emilio, you're in.
38:21You can leave the runway.
38:22Thank you very much.
38:23Milo, you're in.
38:30You can leave the runway.
38:38Anna and Janine,
38:39one of you will be out.
38:44Janine, you had a very interesting inspiration,
38:47but the look does not live up to it.
38:50It felt more bridal than fashion forward.
38:53Anna,
38:56the vest and shorts outfit is forgettable,
39:00and it would not stand out
39:01on a crowded newsstand.
39:08Anna,
39:10you're out.
39:19That means Janine you're in.
39:23You can leave the runway, too.
39:37Thank you very much.
39:44All the best to you.
39:47Thank you so much.
39:48I'm sad that I've been eliminated,
39:59but I'm so proud of myself.
40:02Being here and being around
40:04so many amazing designers
40:05is really just such an amazing thing in itself.
40:10Anna, I have to send you the workroom
40:11to clean up your space.
40:12I know.
40:13You should feel so proud
40:14of what you have achieved here.
40:16All right.
40:17We'll miss you all.
40:18Anna, I have to send you my name.
40:21Ultimately, I'll take with me
40:22a confidence in who I am as a designer,
40:24and I know that really amazing things
40:27are going to come
40:27because I already have.
40:28I know that really surfing this stuff to do
40:29I can't see.
