00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Thursday morning, which is wet and windy across much of England and Wales, showers further north and west.
00:08In fact, we do have weather warnings this morning across much of the southern half of the UK, all courtesy of a deep area of low pressure which is extending across these parts.
00:19Now this is Storm Benjamin being named yesterday by the French Met Service because most of the impacts will be across the near continent.
00:25Even so, this morning the combination of wind and rain causing problems on the roads as that heavy rain becomes confined eventually to more eastern counties.
00:34But the winds will also be a feature of the weather, so high waves, gusts along this western side could reach through the morning into the afternoon 60 miles an hour, along this eastern side up to 70 miles an hour.
00:46So some rough ferry crossings if you are heading that way through the next 24 hours, if not longer.
00:52In fact, beyond that, the rain returns to eastern parts of Scotland as the winds just come down from the north, so it does turn colder for everyone.
01:01If you are stepping out first thing, it's dry across the northwest Highlands.
01:04A little showery rain here and there across mainland Scotland, but some dry weather, a bit chilly in places.
01:09A few showery bursts likely across northern Ireland as well as the west of Wales and also the west country.
01:15This is a stronger wind coming down the Irish Sea.
01:17But notice further east, across much of England, this is the heavy rain.
01:21The winds are very strong associated with this deep area of low pressure, causing problems, particularly along the coastline with those high waves.
01:28But it is the combination of wind and rain which will cause problems if you are travelling this morning.
01:33So take extra time on your journey.
01:35And remember, there could be a lot of surface water out there and also poor visibility with those driving winds and also torrential bursts of rain.
01:43So the rain eventually will clear eastwards, but it will be a slow process.
01:47So for much of England, it will be a wet day.
01:50Showers fire in across the northeast of England.
01:53Much of eastern Scotland seeing those showers and they continue to move in also across Wales as well as the west country.
02:00Some fine weather actually around lunchtime for northern Ireland and western parts of Scotland.
02:05But notice this area of low pressure here will sink southwards and that means the winds will pick up across northern Ireland and western Scotland.
02:12And you'll see a rash of showers at the same time through the afternoon across eastern counties as well as the Midlands, the southeast.
02:19That's where we'll see the most persistent rain and also the strongest winds.
02:23The centre of the low through the afternoon will be across the North Sea.
02:26So the wind coming in from a north-to-north westerly direction and really quite a strength.
02:32So gale force winds for a time, those winds also will be very gusty.
02:36Here are your warning zones through the afternoon.
02:39It will still be blustery further west as well.
02:41And notice the winds picking up towards the northwest of the country.
02:44Temperatures 9 to 12 degrees Celsius.
02:47So rather chilly, particularly with the strength of the wind.
02:50You'll notice it along that east coast.
02:53So that's the picture through this afternoon.
02:55Through this evening, if you are travelling again across eastern counties, watch out again the combination of that wind and rain causing problems if you are travelling.
03:04So take extra time on your journey and notice the rain is clearing.
03:08So better into the early hours of Friday morning as the rain returns through Friday across eastern counties of Scotland.
03:15At the same time, we lose the strength of the wind across England and Wales.
03:19But showers will follow on Friday, particularly across the west.
03:22And that wind will be coming in from a northerly direction.
03:25So very cold across the north as well as the west of Scotland, delivering those showers.
03:29And showers filing in also across northern Ireland.
03:32But inland, you should see some brighter weather, if not some sunshine.
03:35And a better day across eastern counties of England.
03:38Through the day, though, these showers merge together to form a longer spell of rain.
03:42So some wet weather to end the day across eastern Scotland.
03:45And that will sink down towards northern England.
03:47So through Saturday, notice these blues covering most of the country.
03:51It's cold outside.
03:53It will be certainly through the weekend.
03:55And those winds remain strong, particularly across the eastern side of the country.
03:59Now through Sunday, notice towards the northwest another area of cloud and rain moves in.
04:04This will introduce some wet weather for a time.
04:07It slides down the country.
04:09But again, we return to some chillier weather further northwest.
04:12Wherever you are, take care.
04:13Remember to stay up to date with the forecast as well as the warnings.
