00:00Let us get to our headlines from yesterday.
00:03There are a lot of injuries.
00:04There were some fun games.
00:05A rare but always enjoyable Monday night football doubleheader.
00:09And that is where we begin.
00:11We start with the late game.
00:13I know a lot of East Coasters complaining about the 10 p.m. start.
00:17Tell you what, I'm an East Coaster.
00:19I take it every single week.
00:20I absolutely love it.
00:21The Chargers, they moved to 2-0 with a rather convincing win over the Raiders in Las Vegas.
00:29It was 20-9.
00:30The Chargers on top of the AFC West now at 2-0.
00:34As we know, the Chiefs off to an 0-2 start.
00:37One of those losses coming against this Chargers team.
00:39You see some of the highlights on your screen in terms of who did well.
00:42But Justin Herbert, 242 passing yards.
00:46A couple of touchdowns was also the team's leading rusher.
00:49Ladd McConkie, Keenan Allen, Quentin Johnston, they combined for 13 catches.
00:53180 yards and both those TDs from Herbert.
00:56Gino Smith intercepted three times on the other side.
01:00Brock Bauer is really a question mark going into the game in terms of what was he going
01:04to look like with the knee injury?
01:05Had the brace on during the game.
01:07Truthfully, a shell of himself.
01:09Not terribly productive.
01:11Five receptions.
01:12And he had 38 targets.
01:13Was targeted eight times.
01:15Chargers head coach, Jim Harbaugh, on a very pleasing win, you might say.
01:21Ah, great road win, division game.
01:26Real blue collar game.
01:29I thought the special teams played winning football, offense played winning football,
01:33and the defense guardians of victory today.
01:36I mean, they had our back, our front, our side.
01:39And it was just a tremendous defensive performance.
01:45The turnovers, three interceptions, the fourth down stops.
01:51I mean, an incredible stop on the 20-play drive, you know, over 11 minutes.
01:55We had a ball once in the third quarter.
01:57They had it once in the third quarter.
01:58And, you know, to stop him to three points there.
02:03And just, I mean, guys just playing like, I mean, it just meant everything to him.
02:11As for Raiders head coach, poor guy.
02:14He lost on his birthday, Pete Carroll.
02:16He is now, really already was, but just ticked up a year to 74.
02:20The oldest person to coach an NFL game.
02:24And, well, unfortunate for him, again, his team fell short.
02:28What that really feels like is a real missed opportunity, just in general.
02:35You know, Monday night was just part of that.
02:37But in the division, it was a real opportunity.
02:40And we didn't play well enough on the offensive side with the turnovers that add up.
02:45That'll be what you talk about and all.
02:47But it really was, we didn't play well enough.
02:49And they covered us up pretty good.
02:51I'm anxious to see the film.
02:52I'm surprised that they did such a nice job on defense, on pass defense against us.
02:59But we came out of it okay, as far as getting banged up, happy about that.
03:07Really, really like what's going on in the defense.
03:08A couple second halves here, just terrific D.
03:11And we're going to need that to play together.
03:13But we know we missed the opportunity.
03:15And there's so many different ways that we'll get better.
03:18And so we've got to go back to work really quickly and get ready for this game coming up.
03:21So, whereas that Chargers game pretty much went as it was supposed to, they covered the number, they got the win.
03:29A lot of people were invested in Los Angeles.
03:31The game prior, the first game of the Monday Night Football doubleheader, that was an absolute thriller.
03:37With the Buccaneers improving to 2-0 and handing the Texans an 0-2 start.
03:42Yeah, that same Houston team that a lot of people had winning the AFC South once again.
03:46Now, two games back at the Indianapolis Colts.
03:48This one came down to the wire, really final seconds.
03:51A 20-19 win in Houston.
03:55Texans scored the go-ahead TD with 2-10 left on a 25-yard Nick Chubb run.
04:00But Baker Mayfield, as he always seems to find a way, answered back.
04:04An 11-play, 80-yard drive.
04:06It was capped by Rashad White's two-yard scamper for a TD with only six seconds remaining.
04:11For Mayfield, 215 yards, two touchdowns.
04:15Yeah, too many self-inflicted errors there in the middle of it.
04:20Obviously, they did a good job of doing some adjustments.
04:24Petrie went down for a little bit there for the first half.
04:27And so, a little bit of a mix-up personnel-wise and schematically that they were doing that we needed to adjust to.
04:33But, yeah.
04:34And then coming into the two-minute situation, something that we drill all the time.
04:38And just relying on our guys to be able to make plays and doing the little things right.
04:42I have a lot of confidence in our guys.
04:43You know, it's in those moments when you're moving the ball down the field, defenses can't get certain blitzes and coverages dialed in.
04:50So, it's a lot of basic fundamentals.
04:52And so, for us, it's relying on the day-one installs and the drills, like we said.
04:55They do two-minute all the time.
04:56Being able to know that you have all those reps in the bank and relying on that and all the looks.
05:00And taking the checkdowns, the easy throws.
05:03And, obviously, guys making plays, being able to get out of bounds and extend the statement drive.
05:08So, Mayfield led the drive, wiped the winning touchdown.
05:11But, let's not forget about Bucky Irving, who, between the pass-catching abilities, the rushing abilities, 121 total yards, also had a half-dozen catches.
05:20On the Texans' side, you have, of course, head coach D'Amico Ryans, the quarterback C.J. Stroud.
05:26Both these guys understandably disappointed.
05:29Yeah, the penalties on defense, it was very costly penalties.
05:33Because these penalties gave them first downs.
05:36Once we had a sack, we got them backed up, stopped, and it's just senseless.
05:41Like, some of the mistakes that we're making, you know, hands too high.
05:44Again, it goes back to technique, right?
05:46We got to make sure we're doing that the right way.
05:48And every guy has to be accountable, right, for how you're showing up and how you're playing the game.
05:53We got to play clean football, and we can't hurt the team.
05:56But, right now, those plays and penalties that we had definitely hurt us.
06:00Continue to do it.
06:01Continue to play.
06:02You know, it's a long season.
06:04You know, it's week two.
06:05Hopefully, we learned our lessons and learned to put teams away and learned to, you know, put points on the board.
06:10So, we can say a bunch of different things on what could have went right.
06:14But at the end of the day, it's about winning the games.
06:16And those last, those plays that are in between, you know, those are the games.
06:20I mean, those are the plays that you end up winning or losing on.
06:23So, in my opinion, I think that's, you know, what we got to get better at is just making more plays and sustaining drives.
06:28A lot of quarterback injuries here only two weeks into the season.
06:34That is not limited to just some of the week one stuff.
06:38How about Jaden Daniels in Washington?
06:40He is maybe going to miss this weekend against the Raiders, those same Raiders we were just talking about.
06:47We'll see.
06:48He's dealing with a knee injury.
06:49There's actually a whole bunch of injuries of note for Dan Quinn's squad there.
06:53So, he's got a lot on his plate in the coming days.
06:56Washington out to a one-on-one start just like Vegas, of course.
06:59J.J. McCarthy, he missed all of last season as a rookie in the NFL, as we know, after that preseason injury.
07:06So, he sits out behind Sam Darnold.
07:08Finally, ready to go for this year.
07:10Had that dramatic, very entertaining win against the Bears in the season opener.
07:16Destroyed in the second game, the Vikings.
07:18And now McCarthy is expected to miss two to four weeks.
07:22He is dealing with high ankle sprains.
07:24That means veteran Carson Wentz is going to start for Minnesota.
07:28Wentz has started one game each of the last two seasons for the Chiefs and the Rams.
07:31A pro bowler and even in the MVP race way back in 2017 with the Eagles, as we remember.
07:37Speaking of the QBs, we know Joe Burrow is not going to play for the foreseeable future.
07:42At least three months, it looks like, dealing with his turf toe surgery.
07:46And so, Jake Browning obviously is slated into the starter.
07:50But Cincinnati adding quarterbacks, Mike White and Sean Clifford, both to the practice squads.
07:56We'll see if they wind up getting any reps at some point.
07:59Veteran linebacker Jadavion Clowney is expected to make his Cowboys debut on Sunday.
08:03The three-time pro bowler.
08:05He's really bounced around the league since 2018.
08:08This is his seventh team in that span.
08:10Basically, a new team every single year.
08:12Bears pro bowler.
08:14Cornerback Jalen Johnson.
08:15He made his season debut just this past weekend.
08:19And now he is out indefinitely with a groin injury.
08:23So, not so great.
