00:00The running ability himself to be another threat, so it's going to be all about running the ball, running the ball, running the ball, which is going to open up everything else for them this year.
00:10Cook tries to step up, and he's dumped at the 10-yard line.
00:15Pressure from Philadelphia circling around Cook, led by Patrick Johnson, who gets home.
00:21Yeah, we just talked about run the ball, run the ball, open up some play action.
00:25Well, this is a drop-back pass, and obviously, we know, not starters and everything, but we've got off of the edge, on the left side, a beautiful little bull rush, brings him down with one hand.
00:35That's what you're trying to avoid.
00:37Now putting yourself in a third-and-long where you might throw a screen, you might hand off a draw, because it's a very tough situation to actually get this first down.
00:46Staring at a third-and-15, Brandon Smith, the motion man, shotgun formation for Cook.
00:52In the pocket, throws it.
00:55Edwards underneath, and he's brought down after the gain of 10.
01:00So, Philadelphia knew, just don't let them get anywhere near the sticks.
01:04They allowed the 10-yard reception, and the Jets will punt it away.
01:08And that's unfortunately been a little bit of a theme tonight for the Jets, is being behind the sticks.
01:13They've had those holding calls.
01:15They get a little bit knocked off here with the sack.
01:17If you get into third-and-long, you're just, your chances, the percentages go so far down, you're not going to be able to convert.
01:26Not much of a rush.
01:27Austin McNamara with the clean kick.
01:30And that one sails to the 29-yard line.
01:33Smith hauls it in.
01:34And Philadelphia will take over after the 50-yard boot.
01:38We'll be back right after this.
01:40Offensively, not much to speak of tonight for the New York Jets.
01:44Have not found much of a rhythm.
01:47Philadelphia leads us 1-6-0.
01:50First and 10 at the 30 with 3.37 to go.
01:53Second quarter.
01:54The drop back and throw by McCord is on time.
02:00Terrace Marshall, Jr. hauls it in.
02:03Nice little stop route right on the outside.
02:05McCord finds him.
02:07Ball's on time.
02:08Rhythm throw.
02:09Does a great job.
02:10Just a little.
02:1110, 12-yard.
02:12Put your foot in the ground.
02:13Turn around.
02:13Ball's on him.
02:14Just as it needs to be because you can see the defender coming inside out, trying to get underneath it.
02:19But that ball was on time and ready to roll.
02:22Sixth play of 10 or more yards.
02:24Cook remaining engaged with his teammates on the Jets' sideline.
02:28Spin move goes nowhere.
02:30The Jets were ready.
02:31Malachi Moore pressing the line and gets to the backfield for a loss of five.
02:37Tried to run right into a blitz here.
02:39Malachi Moore is going to come off the edge.
02:40These two defensive linemen are going to come underneath.
02:43And Moore is going to come from off your screen and just make a beautiful TFL.
02:46He's got an interception.
02:47Now he's got a three- or four-yard TFL.
02:49Well, these types of splash players are the ones that you remember and the ones that the coaches are thinking about as they make these cutdowns.
02:56Any initials you use, I'll be ready to go with an interpretation for the fan.
03:00That's a tackle for a loss.
03:02So you can use, like, J.J., Justin.
03:06Well, Justin James is me.
03:08But you threw me off when Aaron Glenn yesterday was using J.J. for Jermaine Johnson.
03:11He did it twice.
03:12He did it twice.
03:13And I was like, I thought I was getting yelled at because the coach is saying my name.
03:16And he was saying it rather vociferously.
03:18So, no, he said that he loves Jermaine Johnson and called him a very good-looking football player as he said it.
03:27And then paused and continued.
03:30And I think Aaron Glenn believes they have a chance to be very special up front once this thing gets rolling defensively.
03:37Yes, especially if J.J. comes back and is healthy and is doing great after that Achilles injury last year.
03:42And you've got Will McDonald and then the two big guys in the middle, Quinnen and the new addition Harrison Phillips.
03:46That is a formidable defensive line if they can gel and play cohesively.
03:51Robinson gets stood up and he picks up two yards on the play.
03:55Brings up fourth down for Philadelphia.
03:57So Jets offense will get one more shot at this Philadelphia defense.
04:04That takes us to the two-minute warning.
04:076-0.
04:08Philly Eagles will punt when we return to MetLife.
04:11Special teams coordinator Chris Banjo as we take a look at our Verizon profile.
04:18His first season as a special teams coordinator is with the Broncos.
04:22Tenure veteran, highly respected with Green Bay, New Orleans, and the Arizona Cardinals where you and he cross paths.
04:29Yeah, Banjo's a great, great teammate.
04:32He's one of my favorite teammates of all time.
04:33He's a guy who puts in the work, puts in the time.
04:36There was a great article in The Athletic this week talking about how Chris Banjo
04:40trying to get his break in the NFL, trying to find tryouts.
04:44He was working a regular job every single day.
04:48And so he'd wake up at 4.30 to do his own DB drills in the morning.
04:51And then when he got home from work at night, he would go do his own DB drills once again.
04:55That's just the type of guy that he is.
04:57It took him two years to get his shot.
04:58And then he finally became a 10-year NFL vet and now a coach.
05:02He's one of those guys, Ian, that you get a sense around some people like, oh, yeah, that guy could be a head coach someday.
05:09It's just the way they attack their work.
05:11It's the way that they handle people.
05:13It's their personality.
05:14He's just got that thing where you gravitate towards him.
05:17And you know if he's telling you something, that's legit.
05:20And it could fit with Aaron Glenn?
05:21Yes, very good.
05:22Very similar styles, I would say.
05:24Obviously both DBs, but both will tell you like it is.
05:28They're not going to sugarcoat it.
05:29They don't care if you're a first-round pick or an undrafted guy.
05:32They're just going to tell you the truth.
05:33Slicing is Donovan Edwards.
05:36And he picks up three yards, three and a half on the play.
05:39This is where Aaron Glenn was impressed with Brady Cook last week in the two-minute drill.
05:44He's going to get his chance to show it off once again.
05:46We're down to a minute 34 to play in this first half.
05:50And this is a chance to see.
05:51See, what can he do under pressure, under the clock, with the two-minute offense?
05:56Can he control it?
05:57Is he calm under pressure?
05:58Can he get the ball down the field?
06:00Beautiful.
06:00That one.
06:01He threads the needle to Brandon Smith.
06:04Outstanding hands for a 14-yard completion.
06:07Smith continues to shine.
06:09Everybody talked about him, and he just continues to make play after play.
06:14Three catches, 42 yards.
06:16Jets trying to move, and a jump on that right side.
06:20Timing was off.
06:21Carter Warren.
06:25That's what you get into with those pre-snap penalties and the two-minute drill.
06:29You get a little tired.
06:30It starts to get a little tougher to stay in that stance or thinking about so many different things.
06:37So we'll get the official word here from Carl.
06:40Ball start, number 67, offense.
06:45In order to avoid a 10-second runoff, New York has decided to take a timeout, a 30-second timeout.
06:52Please set the game clock to 106.
06:53So a chance to tell you that the MetLife halftime show is coming up.
06:59We'll take you to New York.
07:00News update plus, Otis and Caroline will have some training camp news as well.
07:06It's all coming up on the MetLife halftime show.
07:09It's four offensive penalties so far tonight for the Jets.
07:14That's obviously not what they're looking for, and I'm sure there's something Aaron Glenn is going to address at halftime.
07:20Eagles crowd the line and some movement because of it.
07:24Carter Warren.
07:25First down, number 68, offense, five-yard penalty, first down.
07:30Samuel Jackson.
07:32And it's those pre-snaps.
07:34It's like the announcer's jinx.
07:35We talked to him about it yesterday.
07:36He was very proud of the fact that they only had two all preseason so far.
07:41And then tonight just seems to be going the other direction so far.
07:45So in total, six for 40 yards on the wrong side of the ledger for the Jets.
07:54First and 20.
07:54Cook steps up.
07:55Cook is dangerous with his legs.
07:57And he slides down at the 35-yard line.
08:01Get back on the line.
08:02Get a play called.
08:03Let's get this thing rolling.
08:05It's an eight-yard pickup from Cook.
08:07This is a big part of his game at Missouri.
08:10Shotgun.
08:12On a second and 12.
08:13Cook hangs in there.
08:15And it's a perfect strike.
08:18Connection made with Quentin Skinner, the rookie from Kansas.
08:24First down, New York.
08:27Really nice job by Brady Cook here.
08:29Sliding around the pocket, stepping up, sliding over to the left, and finding his guy.
08:32And before his head is even turned, the ball is on him.
08:35That's what you need to do.
08:36And now here they sit with 41 seconds left at the 38-yard line with a chance to go down and put some points on the board before half.
08:43So, the line of scrimmage inside the 40.
08:47Cook operating with two timeouts remaining.
08:54Cook locks in.
08:56Get out of bounds.
08:57He tries, but does not.
08:59Stone smart.
09:00Clock is moving.
09:0133 seconds left.
09:02Jets were trying to rush to the line.
09:04And then Aaron Glenn takes a timeout.
09:06It's a small little thing.
09:08But if you're going sideways or backwards, the clock will not stop.
09:12You have to be moving forwards.
09:14So, even if you just reach that ball out over the line, that'll get the clock to stop.
09:19And that's one of those things that it takes a little while.
09:21It takes a few years.
09:23Get a little pelts under you to understand those types of things.
09:25But now the Jets have to burn a timeout.
09:27Completely changes the next few plays here.
09:29Stone smart was a college quarterback.
09:33Made the switch to wide receiver when he transferred from Northern Arizona to Old Dominion.
09:41A few years as a member of the Chargers.
09:45Jets are very excited about what Mason Taylor could mean in this offense.
09:51The starting tight end.
09:52Shotgun second and six.
09:54Cook avoids it.
09:54Steps up.
09:55Cook to run.
09:56And he does.
09:57He's going to come up short of the first down.
10:01Use your timeout or get rolling.
10:03And he's going to use his timeout here.
10:07So, now they're staring at a third and one.
10:10Twenty-four seconds on the clock.
10:13And that's going to limit what you can call at this point.
10:17Out of timeouts.
10:19So, you can either get up, get on the ball, run it, and try and get the first down and clock it.
10:23And then take maybe a couple shots at the end zone before kicking a field goal.
10:27Or you throw a quick little out and see what happens.
10:29But the issue is, if you get an incompletion or you get stopped short, you're kicking a field goal.
10:34So, at least you've got three either way here.
10:35You kind of get to pick your poison.
10:37The only way it could go sideways on them is if they get stacked up at the line and it takes a while.
10:43Yeah.
10:43A little tush-push if you try to do a tush-push and everybody's stacked up.
10:46You can't do that against Philly, can you?
10:47Or are you allowed legally?
10:49For one more year, I think you are allowed to do it.
10:52At least one more year, apparently.
10:54Third down and one shotgun formation here for Cook.
10:57Beat them at their own game.
10:59Cook sets and throws.
11:00Wow.
11:00It's in the spot.
11:01Wow.
11:02And it's good enough for a first down.
11:04The throw and the catch.
11:06But clock is moving.
11:07This is what you laid out, JJ.
11:09Get the completion and then clock it, which they do.
11:1211 seconds left.
11:13You have to give credit right there.
11:15This throw is put in the perfect spot where only his man can get it.
11:20And if it's incomplete, it's in the dirt.
11:22He puts it nice and low right into the stomach of his receiver in a beautiful catch.
11:27And then they get up there and clock it.
11:28The operation is running very well right now under Brady Cook.
11:31You've got 11 seconds left.
11:32You get maybe two shots here at the end zone if you want to.
11:38If they go short of the end zone, you cannot get tackled inbounds.
11:44So Cook is 4 of 5 on the drive.
11:4651 yards.
11:4711 seconds on the clock.
11:50From the 23.
11:52Cook looking.
11:54Throwing.
11:55End zone.
11:56Incomplete.
11:56There were a bunch of eagles flocking to the area.
12:01And that's going to do it.
12:02They're not going to try another one.
12:035 seconds on the clock.
12:05Field goal unit coming out for New York.
12:08But a good drive.
12:09I think that's a good drive.
12:10I think that's a positive drive for the Jets.
12:12I think they like what they see out of Brady Cook there.
12:14His ability to move in the pocket was really impressive.
12:17Whether it was scrambling or whether it was shifting around and sliding in the pocket to find the open guy.
12:21And then I think the ball plays really, really good there by Brady Cook.
12:2540-year-old Nick Folk attempting a 41-yard field goal.
12:30Cook just got a pat on the back from his teammate.
12:32Chatting with the coaches.
12:33And now Folk will cash in.
12:40Three on the board for the Jets as time runs out at the end of the first half.
12:476-3.
12:48Philadelphia in front.
12:51Eagles will get the football to start the second half.
12:54But some good vibes going into the locker room for Brady Cook and the Jets' offense.
13:02Let's go.
13:03Right now, let's take a look at the first half stats presented by Tri-Honda with the Eagles in front.
13:236-3.
13:25149 total yards for the Jets.
13:28Six penalties costing them 40 yards.
13:31Yes, Ian Eagle, J.J. Watt, the rest of our crew rejoining you.
13:34A little juice at the end of that second quarter.
13:37Brady Cook led the way for New York.
13:38Yeah, it was nice to see.
13:39In those two-minute situations, you want to see how your guys are going to react,
13:42how they're going to handle the situation.
13:44He moved around the pocket well.
13:45He found his open receivers.
13:47And he delivered the ball where they could catch it.
13:49And he moved the team down the field.
13:50Here you can see beautiful pass right across the middle.
13:53He had one down the sideline.
13:54And then down there inside the Eagles' territory, he gets it to the sidelines,
13:58where if maybe they get the clock stopped there, he's got a couple more shots at the end zone.
14:02But you have to be happy with the way Brady Cook moved the offense down the field.
14:06And you could tell in back-to-back weeks, Aaron Glenn was very pleased.
14:09Because that's something you coach up and you have an idea of what you want to do
14:13when you see your team go out and do it.
14:15It's gratifying.
14:16Yeah, and that's one of those things.
14:17It doesn't matter.
14:18Starters, second string, third string.
14:19Your operation is your operation.
14:21You want to see it move smoothly.
14:22And Brady Cook handled it well.
14:23We're anticipating Adrian Martinez to start this second half.
14:27Quarterback position, there's still a gray area as to how this is all going to look
14:32based on Tyrod Taylor and his current status after the arthroscopic knee surgery.
14:37Most definitely.
14:38And like we said in the open, these two guys could be competing for QB2 in week one,
14:43depending on that Tyrod situation.
14:44And it also could be a situation where it's, is there another guy out there?
14:48But looking forward to seeing how Martinez does in this half and comparing it with Brady Cook
14:53in the first.
14:55We asked Martinez about the approach and he was very honest about the big picture of how
15:02this affects his life, affects his career, but did acknowledge that I got to lock in on
15:07what I need to do here in this game and not worry about what's going to happen next week.
15:13Aniyah Smith is the return man and he's hemmed in, tried to cross the 25.
15:20Instead, they bring him down at the 24.
15:23And now, what he sees, brought to you by Genesis and a very sharp jacket.
15:30Thank you, Ian.
15:31Things that are going well.
15:32That two-minute drive.
15:33We just talked about it.
15:34Their way to matriculate the ball down the field, get points on the board before the half.
15:38And then Malachi Moore on the defensive side of the ball.
15:41He has an interception.
15:41He has a tackle for loss, clearly making a few splash plays.
15:45What needs improvement?
15:46Pre-snap penalties.
15:47Something that really gets under Aaron Glenn's skin, rightfully so.
15:51Got to get those cleaned up in the second half.
15:54So, Philadelphia opens up first and 10 at the 24-yard line.
15:59McCord remains in there and he looks to throw it along the sideline.
16:04Could not make the connection to Elijah Cook's coverage back there for New York, led by Jarius Monroe.
16:11Tried to undercut it, did a nice job, got his hand out there again.
16:16Ball hit the receiver's hands, but possibly that little hand in front of his face could have affected his vision as it came in.
16:22So, it's been all McCord so far for Philadelphia.
16:27Dorian Thompson-Robinson was acquired in a trade with Cleveland known as DTR.
16:32Fake it.
16:33Throw it.
16:35And the Jets are all over it.
16:36EJ Jenkins, the tight end, picks up only a yard as Monroe ranges over to make the play for Gang Green.
16:44Back-to-back nice plays by Monroe.
16:47Here, just a little screen pass.
16:48They're trying to set it up on the edge.
16:49He defeats his blocker and he makes the tackle.
16:52Beautiful play.
16:54Brings up third and nine now for Philly.
16:58Pass rushers, time to eat.
17:00Third and nine, this is what you dream about.
17:02You get a chance to tee off.
17:04These guys know that it's going to be a pass.
17:07You get after it.
17:07Your best pass rush move.
17:09Maybe you got a game schemed up.
17:10Let's see what happens.
17:11Nickel package here for New York.
17:13McCord, the pressure, and they bring him down.
17:16Brayden McGregor just busting through for the sack.
17:23What you're going to see here is you're going to have McGregor coming around the edge,
17:26but you got these guys pushing the middle of the pocket,
17:29which makes it hard for McCord to step up.
17:31So McGregor comes around the edge with a nice little move,
17:33and then he tries to retreat deep,
17:35but that's exactly what the edge rusher wants when he's coming around like that.
17:39And then he secures the sack.
17:41Nothing better.
17:42Nothing better.
17:43I just heard it in your voice.
17:44That's Nirvana right there.
17:46Loss of 13 yards.
17:49And Philadelphia will punt it deep in their own territory.
17:52Man out of his own end zone.
17:54Now that's a booming kick.
17:56Pritchett back.
17:58Handles it at the 23.
17:59He's got some room to work.
18:00Turns the corner.
18:03Turns up the speed.
18:04Down the sideline, and he spun down.
18:08Brayden Mann had to get over there to make the play,
18:11or this one could have been six.
18:15You know, an easy way to make coaches forget about an earlier drop on a punt return,
18:19you just take one all the way down the sideline for a huge return.
18:23Beautiful.
18:2565-yard punt.
18:27And a 38-yard return for Pritchett.
18:32And it will be Adrian Martinez at the helm now for the Jets.
18:39Chris Banjo loving it.
18:41Banjo excited.
18:44Let's see how Martinez handles the offense.
18:48Got a look at Brady Cook the entire first half,
18:50and now it's Martinez's turn.
18:52High snap.
18:53Martinez to throw it.
18:54Good touch.
18:55But the Eagles dissect it quickly,
18:57and Donovan Edwards gets chopped down after a modest gain on first down.
19:03We talked about Martinez and that UFL career.
19:06He's the MVP of the league.
19:07He's MVP of the championship game.
19:09And we asked him in that meeting,
19:11is that something that's hard to transition to then being a practice squad player
19:15and not being able to play after being the man?
19:18And he said, I can't think about all that right now.
19:20I have to compartmentalize and just look at the challenge that I have in front of me.
19:23And I think he had a really good attitude about how to attack each day and get better.
19:28Absolutely.
19:29I think he was impressive, really good perspective.
19:33There is an injured eagle on the play,
19:35and it's Smile Munden who made the tackle.
19:37He's walking off on his own power to the Philadelphia sideline.
19:41And he did say the UFL helped him a great deal last year in that he was playing live football.
19:48So when he showed up at training camp, he had a whole bunch of reps banked.
19:55And it wasn't just going through OTAs where you're watching other guys do it.
19:59He actually did it himself.
20:00So there was a rhythm there.
20:01It was a really interesting point I hadn't thought about.
20:03He had played a ton of football and then just transitioned into playing more football.
20:08He didn't really have an offseason.
20:09And like you said, it's easy to keep the rust off when the rust never got on in the first place.
20:14We asked him about his approach here today.
20:16He said, hey, make sure your body feels good.
20:18Do the sauna.
20:19Do the cold tub.
20:20Give it up to Edwards and Martinez, which I think a lot of quarterbacks are doing now.
20:27A lot of voice memos on their phone with all the play calls.
20:30This was a real high for him.
20:33UFL MVP, UFL championship game MVP to celebrate it with his family.
20:39He was in Lions camp prior to his stint in the UFL.
20:42So he got a little taste of the NFL, didn't make the squad, but then felt more confident
20:47last year when he got his opportunity with the Jets.
20:51But a whole new coaching staff, whole new front office had to reprove himself all over again.
20:56You know what I liked about that is he said when the new coaching staff came in, he went to them
21:00and he said, I don't care who's in the room.
21:02It doesn't matter who you bring in.
21:04I'm just going to be me every single day.
21:06And you decide based off that.
21:08Very fortunate that Dallas Gantt didn't pick it off.
21:11That was right in his hands.
21:13And the Jets do very little with their outstanding field position.
21:18Just Mike linebacker kind of sat in his spot, didn't really move, and just threw it right
21:24into his hands.
21:25And that's certainly going to be one that he wants back.
21:27But Martinez is glad he doesn't get a second shot at it.
21:30Because when they hit you in the hands, you got to catch them.
21:32Harrison Mavis will get a 55-yard attempt.
21:38His long at Missouri was 52.
21:41And this one will curve no good.
21:46So they put the young guy on the spot, gave him a shot at a long one.
21:51No points for New York.
21:56JetBlue makes your fair fly further.
22:00What they'll do in the final preseason game, second half, they'll have the umpire step in
22:05as the referee.
22:06In this case, it's Derek Anderson who steps in for Carl Sheffers.
22:10They will align with one less official if that were to ever happen in the regular season.
22:15It prepares you, at least gets you into the thought process of what that would look like.
22:20And a chance for them to get reps as well.
22:24DePaul is incomplete with a flag down.
22:27Terrace Marshall Jr., the intended target.
22:30There's a lot of times in my career I wish there was one less official on the field.
22:33Really?
22:34In your particular area, vicinity of the field.
22:37Yeah.
22:38Pass interference, number 43.
22:40Defense.
22:41The ball will be placed at the spot of the foul.
22:43First down.
22:44And that's Mario Goodrich, who was called for P.I.
22:49I mean, you're entitled to your space as well.
22:53And he just kind of ran right through him.
22:57DB is the hardest position.
22:59Cornerback specifically.
23:00Outside of quarterback, I think that DB is the toughest position in the NFL to play.
23:05Just with the rules and with the offense knowing where they're going, you don't.
23:09But yet, you still have to keep up with them.
23:11Very glad I'm a defensive lineman.
23:1415-yard penalty.
23:15Are you still a defensive lineman?
23:17I realize it as I was saying it.
23:19It's very unfortunate that I no longer can identify in the present tense.
23:24No, but that's a part of you forever.
23:27So, we're going to let that one slide.
23:28You look in the mirror, you see defensive lineman.
23:31I'll shed a tear over here quietly by myself.
23:33I know.
23:34It's been very emotional for you.
23:35I mean, you can tell on that sack over there.
23:37Like, it's in you forever.
23:39I just.
23:40Yeah.
23:41JJ is now in the fetal position in the corner of the booth.
23:44You got the rest of the call.
23:45It's all me.
23:48Aniah Smith on the receiving end.
23:49Second down and five.
23:50McCourt.
23:51Nice sidestep and throw, but it's broken up.
23:53He tried to hum it in there, but could not hit Elijah Cooks cleanly.
23:59And once again, we're saying the name Jarius Monroe.
24:05We do have an injured jet, and it is Monroe.
24:11Cooks landed on top of him.
24:14And Monroe knew right away that something was amiss.
24:21All right, and that little slide step you talk about is not as easy as he made it look there.
24:26Got an injury on the field.
24:28We'll come back.
24:30Get up on his own, but made a direct beeline for the locker room.
24:35Philadelphia running game with Montrell Johnson, Jr.
24:39Major head of steam as he takes it inside the 25.
24:44A third and five run play is something that can catch the defense off guard.
24:48You get the pass rushers in pass rush mode, and then you just slip a run right underneath them.
24:53You can see the edge rushed a little too far up the field, creating that crease.
24:58And a real nice run to get the first down.
25:01So it's Tanner McAllister now stepping in for Jarius Monroe.
25:06Philadelphia's got a new set of downs to work with at the 24-yard line.
25:10We have 10-18 to play in the third.
25:13Johnson remains in there.
25:14They give it to him again.
25:15Subtle move as he angles towards the left.
25:20Tyler Barron there to greet him.
25:22One and a half yards on the carry.
25:25The D lineman to me there thought I saw a false start.
25:28I thought I saw a guy go just a little bit early, which is something we talked about with Lane Johnson, who's the best in the business at that.
25:35But as we take a look at Steve Wilkes, the defensive coordinator for the Jets, who Aaron Glenn brought in to run this defense, former head coach, Cardinals in 2018, Carolina 2022, he is going to be in charge of taking Aaron Glenn's vision and putting it into action.
25:53McCord, a little too hot to handle with excellent coverage.
25:57Marshall, the intended target, blanketed there by Aaron Boog-Smith.
26:03McGregor's been popping up.
26:0555 has been doing a nice job.
26:07You see him on the edge creating some havoc out there.
26:10He got the sack a little earlier.
26:12He had a nice rush there.
26:14Now we've got a man down.
26:16It is a New York Jet defensive back, Jarek Bernard-Converse.
26:22So earlier Jarius Monroe, now Bernard-Converse.
26:26They're working on that right leg.
26:30Already had an injury to Chris Boyd, who is now on IR, was supposed to be a core special teamer, signed from Houston.
26:43So they lost.
26:46Backup corner.
26:48Which may have opened the door for Bernard-Converse, who could have been considered on the bubble, sixth-round pick in 2023.
26:55Yeah, you never, never want to see guys injured.
27:03Here he is up here.
27:06Let's take a look and see.
27:10Nothing.
27:11Could literally just be cramping.
27:13Yeah, good.
27:15Never know.
27:16And he's up on his feet and walking it off.
27:19Grabbed the back of his right leg.
27:22Get some pickle juice, the old school way.
27:25Is that what you do?
27:26I'll never forget in high school when I was cramping up and somebody literally handed me a jar of pickle juice.
27:31And I said, what's this for?
27:32And he just said, drink it.
27:33Oh.
27:34And I was like, all right.
27:34Do I rub it on?
27:36What is this exactly that you want me to do?
27:38The salt, the electrolytes, gets you immediate hydration, supposedly.
27:44You felt a difference.
27:45I mean, I was in high school and there's a senior giving it to me, so difference or not, I was saying it was great.
27:51Pass played, a Marshall, and another first down for Philadelphia.
27:56So the presence of McCord has been on display throughout.
28:00The percentage is not great.
28:02The numbers don't pop off the page, but he's passed the eye test.
28:06He has, and he's had a couple drops there.
28:09He's getting on the move, getting outside the pocket, and finding guys in these windows when the plays break down.
28:18First out inside the 15 now for Philadelphia.
28:22Nine minutes to go in the third.
28:25Johnson in the backfield, shotgun formation.
28:27Oh, and Johnson gets lifted.
28:31He got tattooed by Zaire Barnes.
28:36That is a thing of beauty.
28:4253 just coming down right in the middle of your screen, and a picture-perfect form tackle.
28:48Earlier, Ian, we were talking about tackling, and I said, the way they teach you when you're a kid is to wrap him up squared and lift him up.
28:55I said, nobody does that.
28:56He just did it.
28:57That was the perfect example of a youth football form tackle.
29:00Yep, we just have been informed he learned that in fifth grade as it's carried over.
29:05Oh, man, that was beautiful.
29:06Second down and 12 now for Philadelphia.
29:10McCord, pocket holds up.
29:11He'll throw it.
29:12High one.
29:14Handled.
29:14Did he get him in?
29:16No.
29:16Elijah Cooks.
29:20Really nice throw and catch.
29:22Just barely can't get the feet in.
29:24Let's see here.
29:26Beautiful slow motion shot by our crew.
29:28Nope.
29:29Not even one.
29:30Quantes Stiggers was back there.
29:35But again, that's a perfectly placed ball.
29:38Nobody is catching that ball but his own receiver.
29:40And climbed the ladder to get it.
29:43Just couldn't get the feet down.
29:45Cooks a big target.
29:466'4", 215.
29:47This is the ninth play of the drive on a third and 12.
29:52Oh, he had a huge cutback lane.
29:53There it is.
29:54And there it is for Johnson.
29:55Wow.
29:56All the way.
29:57Touchdown.
29:58He read it perfectly.
30:01Pay dirt for the Eagles.
30:0415-yard score.
30:05You're going to see this cutback lane.
30:11He's just slow playing it, slow playing it.
30:13And then he is going to find all of this space.
30:15Look at that.
30:16Not a single jet in sight as he heads to the end zone.
30:21Nice running.
30:22Good design.
30:23Cleared out the middle of that defense for our first touchdown of the night.
30:27Rookie from Florida.
30:30He transferred from Louisiana.
30:31He was the Sun Belt freshman of the year.
30:35Undrafted free agent, Montrell Johnson, Jr.
30:39Caps off a nine-play, 55-yard drive.
30:43Remember, they got the field position after the missed field goal.
30:47Jake Elliott converts.
30:50And Philadelphia now leads it 13-3.
30:54Third quarter action continues from MetLife.
30:57So, Eagles score the first touchdown of the night on a 15-yard run by Johnson
31:07and extend their lead 13-3.
31:11Jets were in a tight one last week at the half against the Giants,
31:14and then the Giants has pulled away in the second half.
31:1731-12, the final.
31:20That kick handled at the four by Daimere Miller.
31:24And Miller is stacked up at the 30-yard line.
31:27That's where the Jets will take over.
31:30All right, 2025 regular season just around the corner.
31:32J.J., some big storylines from you.
31:34Yeah.
31:34I mean, obviously, Patrick Mahomes has had a stranglehold on that AFC,
31:38and we've got a few great, great quarterbacks in that division.
31:41Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrell.
31:43You can go down the list.
31:44Justin Herbert, everybody.
31:45Is any of them going to take that next step to get to or win a Super Bowl?
31:49Then we have the NFC North.
31:51Incredible year last year.
31:52The Lions, the Vikings, the Packers.
31:54Will they be able to repeat that?
31:56We'll see.
31:58Curious about the Bears, too.
31:59Just, yeah.
32:00Will there be market improvement with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams?
32:04On a give, it is to a filly who picks up three yards.
32:11Oh, we have another storyline.
32:13And finally, we have, obviously, Aaron Rodgers, Mike Tomlin,
32:17matching up in Pittsburgh.
32:19Jets fans very familiar with Aaron Rodgers,
32:22and they're going to get a close-up look at him in week one
32:24when we'll be here for that matchup.
32:26Steelers and Jets.
32:28Not many storylines in that one.
32:29No, we'll have to have a really deep production meeting
32:33to try to weed through what the headlines are in that one.
32:3813-3, Philadelphia leads it.
32:40Jets now on a second and seven with Martinez leading the way.
32:46The running play is handled by Philly
32:49as Towa Philly picks up three.
32:53You know what was talked about a little bit this week, Ian,
32:57that I found really interesting,
32:59and I liked what Aaron Glenn told us about it,
33:00is they had a players-only practice this week
33:03where Aaron Glenn was the only coach out there,
33:05and he basically put the ball down and said,
33:07you guys do it from warm-up to individual drills to the scrimmage.
33:11Everything that they did, the players ran.
33:13Fields on offense, Sherwood on defense,
33:15and that's just a really cool way for the team
33:18to A, find out who the leaders are,
33:20and B, empower your top players to take control.
33:24Martinez in some trouble.
33:25Flag is down.
33:26Martinez gets out of it, runs for a first down,
33:28but that penalty marker is back at the 26-yard line,
33:33and Martinez knows it.
33:34That's going to be a hold on a left tackle.
33:37Just got beat around the edge.
33:39Holding number 68 offense to 10-yard penalty.
33:43Replay third down.
33:44That is Samuel Jackson, and that is Avengers Endgame.
33:51Nice.
33:52Yeah.
33:52Just move in another one.
33:54Yeah, see it right out here.
33:56Going to get a little bit beat around the corner
33:58and just grab and hold and pull him down.
34:01Frustrating as a pass rusher
34:03because you have that sack in your sights
34:05and then just the little tug where you can't finish it off.
34:08Eight penalties.
34:08Six have been called against the Jets' offense.
34:12And now they face a third and 14 back at their own 26.
34:17It's the theme of the night, these third and longs,
34:20unfortunately, for the Jets' offense.
34:23Martinez.
34:24Rush coming.
34:25Martinez.
34:25He got the set.
34:26Hit as he throws.
34:27And that ball popped out.
34:31Eagles believe it's live.
34:33And Philadelphia comes away with it.
34:37They're going to sort through this one.
34:41Powell Ryland got in on Adrian Martinez.
34:45And it's a turnover.
34:47He didn't get the sack on the last play because of the hold,
34:49but he gets it on this play.
34:51Comes around the corner.
34:52Goes for the ball and gets the strip sack.
34:55Just a beautiful play there.
34:56Martinez had no idea about it.
34:59The ball is out.
35:00That is going to be Eagles football.
35:02Really nice back-to-back plays.
35:04Antoine Powell Ryland is a rookie out of Virginia Tech who transferred from Florida.
35:11Sixth-round draft pick, and he's got some preseason tape.
35:17Philly takes over first and 10 at the Jets' 23.
35:22Short field.
35:23Let's see if they maybe take a shot at the end zone right away out of the gate.
35:26Quick change.
35:29McCord remains in there.
35:30Fake throw.
35:32It's a quick hitter.
35:33Tackle broken.
35:35Big receiver, Elijah Cooks, and he leans forward for an excellent gain on first down.
35:40That'll pick up nine.
35:41McCord clearly taking all of the snaps for the Eagles here so far.
35:49Kind of setting the paces for what you think might happen here moving forward on their things,
35:55and he's done a nice job.
35:56He's really got a nice little command.
35:58He moves well in the pocket, and he's delivered some good balls.
36:02Howie Roseman, long-time executive with the Eagles,
36:05just done outstanding work with this roster.
36:08It's good enough for a first down, trying to cut it to the outside,
36:11and Johnson has enough.
36:15Yeah, you have to give Howie a lot of credit.
36:17I think he's a GM who has taken care of his players,
36:21who tries to get deals done early,
36:23clearly not afraid to make trades and improve his team where it sees fit.
36:28But he's clearly known.
36:30He takes care of the guys that help him get there,
36:31and that's even evidenced by Saquon's deal.
36:33And they've got the success to follow along with the plan he's put in place.
36:39Saquon got a big extension, two years, $41.5 million.
36:43Hertz was signed to a five-year, $255 million deal.
36:47Out of the pocket.
36:49McCord, at the last moment, gets rid of it
36:51as he was going to absorb the hit from Aaron Boogs-Smith.
36:55By the way, Jarius Monroe is back for the New York Jets.
37:01So, great sign.
37:02Monroe was forced to leave earlier, went to the locker room.
37:04Now he's back in the secondary.
37:06Good to see.
37:07He had three nice plays on that last drive,
37:09so it's good to see him back out there healthy and back in the game.
37:13So, second and ten now for Philly.
37:154.35 to go in the third.
37:16The numbers right now on McCord, 12 of 27, 106 yards, and a pick.
37:24The touchdown came on the ground from Montrell Johnson, Jr.
37:30Stop, spin didn't work, and Johnson is buried in the backfield.
37:35Jets got a lot of pressure, led by Michael Fletcher.
37:39It's a loss of two.
37:42You're going to see some push here from the interior defensive line,
37:45and just giving the running back nowhere to go.
37:47They get great knockback off the ball, hands extended,
37:50and then they converge at the point of attack.
37:52Beautiful play as an entire defensive line unit for the Jets.
37:56It's the 44th all-time preseason meeting between the Jets and the Eagles.
38:01This has become pretty comfortable and familiar.
38:04Easy commute for either team when they flip,
38:07going to the other team's stadium the following year.
38:10McCord, third and 12.
38:12Incomplete low throw.
38:13It was off to the side.
38:14Nick Muse, the intended receiver,
38:17and a flag is down at the eight-yard line.
38:22Looked like this drive was over.
38:25Not so fast.
38:27Pass interference, number 35, defense.
38:30The ball will be placed in the spot of a foul.
38:32First down.
38:33That is Dean Clark,
38:36the rookie from Fresno State,
38:39made a couple of big plays last week.
38:41Yep, just got that jersey just a little bit,
38:46prevented him from getting out of his break,
38:48and there's a ref right there staring at you.
38:51He's going to see that just about every time.
38:53So that's nine penalties now against New York.
38:56The theme continuing for the Jets.
38:59Keelan Robinson is in.
39:03Fresh set of downs to work with.
39:06Robinson gets the call.
39:08Makes a cut inside the 10.
39:10And that's so tough
39:12because you already started on a short field.
39:14You think you're off the field on third down,
39:17and you're going to hold them
39:18to at least a field goal attempt.
39:20And then just a penalty.
39:22You got to go back out there.
39:24You have a fresh set of downs.
39:26They can run it.
39:27They can pass it.
39:27They can do anything.
39:29It's very, very tough as a defense
39:30to get yourself riled back up.
39:33They were the most penalized team in the NFL last year.
39:36They had the highest missed tackle percentage
39:38in the league as well.
39:41Areas where the Jets have to improve
39:43if they're going to avoid another losing season.
39:48Their last winning season was 2015
39:50when they went 10-6.
39:52Todd Bowles was the head coach.
39:54They lost to Buffalo in the final week of the season.
39:58That would have been a playoff spot with a win.
40:01Fell 22-17.
40:03They've missed the postseason 14 consecutive years.
40:06That is the longest drought in professional sports
40:10tied with the Buffalo Sabres.
40:14Here we go, third and eight.
40:16They got back to third down.
40:17Let's see if they can get off the field again.
40:19Still can get a first down inside the one.
40:21McCord, catch made.
40:23Short.
40:23And down just inside the five.
40:25Monroe with the hit after the catch.
40:30Got to go for it here, right?
40:31Elijah Cooks the grab.
40:34They are sending out the field goal unit.
40:36I love your strong preseason opinions.
40:39Come on.
40:41Preseason week three.
40:43Fourth and three.
40:44Nick Sirianni sends out the field goal unit.
40:50And that means another try for Jake Elliott,
40:53who's already made field goals from 51 and 53.
40:56This is a chip shot now from 23.
40:58And the nine-year veteran knocks it through.
41:0816-3.
41:10Philadelphia in front, late stages, third quarter.
41:13VanCruise.com.
41:19Eagles kick it off.
41:20Return man is Miller for New York.
41:23And he's down short of the 25-yard line.
41:27Jets will get the football back.
41:30All right.
41:30Well, we've got the Eagles on our broadcast.
41:33We've got you here.
41:33So, I figured, let's go over some of my favorite Eagles.
41:35Obviously, Reggie White.
41:37No question.
41:38Obviously, bald Eagles.
41:39I mean, who doesn't love a bald Eagle?
41:41Swoop.
41:42Yep.
41:42Another Eagle that we know very well.
41:45I don't know how high he is on my list.
41:46I'm not having any connection whatsoever.
41:48Why are you going to Glenn Frey?
41:48Hotel California.
41:50A little Glenn Frey.
41:51Oh.
41:51But, of course, my favorite Eagle.
41:54Ryan.
41:55Where did you get that photo, by the way?
41:57You're doing stuff in your hotel.
41:58I know.
41:59I had a lot of free time.
42:00A lot of free time in New York City.
42:01I had a lot of free time after our 5 a.m. workout this morning.
42:05And that's a pick for Philadelphia.
42:08Seen stepping in for the INT.
42:11So, the Jets turned it over yet again.
42:15And this thing is going sideways for New York.
42:19Yeah.
42:19This is not what the Jets are looking for.
42:23Yet another short field here coming off a Martinez interception
42:26and just thought he had him.
42:28Didn't see the DB.
42:30Really a little pitch and catch there for the DB.
42:34And Aaron Glenn not too happy at the moment
42:37with the way this second half has gone so far.
42:39Yeah.
42:39Similar vibes last week.
42:41He got away from them against the Giants in the second half.
42:44And a similar story tonight.
42:47It's been the offense that has really sputtered.
42:51And Philadelphia has just done what they do.
43:01Take a shot.
43:02McCord.
43:03End zone.
43:05Bobbled.
43:06Incomplete Marshall.
43:08Is that Monroe again?
43:09It is.
43:09It is.
43:10And Monroe is grabbing at the back of his leg.
43:14So, Jarius Monroe has battled to stay in there
43:18and came back after leaving earlier in the quarter.
43:22But the athletic training staff is over to check on him.
43:25Oh, man.
43:31Nice play.
43:34Jarius Monroe transferred from Nichols to Tulane.
43:38He was on the practice squad last year.
43:42They love his attitude.
43:45Up on his feet.
43:50It's been a rough couple of sequences here for Jarius Monroe.
43:55He's grabbing that right hamstring.
43:58Yep.
43:59Aaron Glenn was right there to check on him.
44:02So, Philadelphia incomplete.
44:09Monroe will be forced to lead the game for the second time.
44:22Second and ten for Philly.
44:23A minute 28 to go in the third.
44:25Final preseason game.
44:28Jets will open up the regular season at home
44:31against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
44:32Eagles will be.
