00:00right with you there is like we sandbagging this morning or because where you that that looked
00:05incredibly fast now lando got blocked on his good lap uh earlier this morning but uh i mean there's
00:12nothing between us and the ferrari and i suspect mercedes has yet uh more to come so i think this
00:17could be quite exciting it looks like things hopefully will close up a little bit you've
00:21brought a big upgrade this weekend ferrari bought a big upgrade red bull have brought a big upgrade
00:25is this the chance for the three teams and you particularly as we're talking to you to to make
00:31gains on mercedes who are waiting until montreal for their next big upgrade hope so it's just one race
00:37we all have more stuff coming but yeah i mean what ferrari's put on their cars impressive and
00:43uh let's see what mercedes has coming but uh yeah if uh we all can tighten up here a little
00:49bit
00:49continue to put on a good show for the fans has oscar ps3 got a particular problem or just a
00:54little
00:54bit to find here and there just a little bit to find here and there he's not been particularly happy
00:58with uh any lap that he's kind of done yet so uh he he tends to find it when it
01:03counts so i think he's
01:04just got a little bit more left in him thanks ever so much indeed uh zach the helicopter's coming in
01:09maybe to take some away from the track a bit earlier best way to get downtown i'm sure and
01:14well probably quicker than trying to clear this traffic jam in the pit lane liam lawson particularly
01:20unhappy with the way he was sent out in sq1 and the team he thinks didn't find the right gap
01:26for him
01:28yeah it's a bit of a lottery isn't it you can have the best plan in the world and uh
01:32you know
01:33take your tire blankets off and find 10 cars have popped out of the pit lane in front of you
01:38so
01:39um i don't know they're not magicians on the pit wall they can't actually you know you're trying to
01:46control your car but you can't control the other 20 well you can control maybe one of the others but
01:51not not all 20 of the uh of the rest a bit frustrating for the two alpines who are right
01:58at the exit ends of the pit lane wanting to get out pierre gasly has noticed his way into the
02:04queue and
02:04finally franco colapinto i think could could get in just behind lewis hamilton they both look quite
02:09good didn't they gasby was right up there in uh in sq1 it's amazing what a mercedes engine will do
02:15for a team and i know the aero is good as well but they've got a bit more horsepower to
02:19to play
02:20with this year in comparison uh to uh to last year switching from the at the renault engine now
02:25to a mercedes engine ted down to you thank you crofty the other thing with alpine is that uh they've
02:31made uh some upgrades on the front of their car particularly which looks to have eliminated some of
02:36the high speed understeer that they had in the first three races so good upgrades on the alpine
02:41just a reason maybe if there is one as to why we're seeing the mercedes only in fifth and sixth
02:48and then half a second off the pace of your kimmy antonelli and almost a whole second off the pace
02:53if you're george russell i did speak to the deputy team principal bradley lord just before this
02:58session i said look have any of these tweaks to the regulations had a negative effect on you
03:03allowed everybody else to catch up given that you made the best effort under the new rules in the
03:09first place he said no if we have lost anything it's about a few thousandths of a second nothing
03:15more we're pretty cool with the changes and it just looks like everyone has caught up on pure pace but
03:21mercedes have some upgrades for the next few races not here thank you very much ted antonelli sets off on
03:26his way just to comment martin on that verstappen gasly thing there great judgment by max verstappen
03:31that there was a gap to go through yeah i mean not a prayer on a new york or london
03:36taxi driver to be
03:37honest they'd be much more brutal than that but it was it was tight wasn't it yeah and that track
03:42position
03:43is key um but these are pretty big cars yeah it's not it's not that uh difficult to run over
03:49somebody
03:49else's front wing a 30.2 for kimmy antonelli that's a 10th down on the best time he had in
03:55uh the first sector in sq1 ted down to you uh something strange has happened and that liam lawson
04:01has gone from the waybridge and ran back into his garage like he thinks he's in this session again
04:06is that because well ollie bearman hasn't gone out yet in this session has he had a lap deleted and
04:12neither is arvid linblad uh i haven't seen anything yet to suggest that those two won't be going out
04:18it might be that he's forgotten some piece of equipment he needed for the waybridge but he was
04:23going back in like he thinks he's in this session i'll keep up to it sorry back to you do
04:27i've not
04:27seen anything in terms of lap deleted uh the timing screen would have updated anyway but uh bearman
04:33hasn't gone out or linblad as yet antonelli continues on his way george russell uh we've got a camera on
04:39too you can follow both of these drivers on board whenever you want you need the sky sports login
04:43and the sky sports app or if you're watching on sky q sky stream sky glass or now
04:48interactive button on your remote control and 129.2 he's only a tenth faster than antonelli
04:53managed in sq1 yeah russell though that's the first time we've seen a solid lap time from him at 28
04:58.9 he
04:59just found three quarters of a second and he needed to so that's good news for george russell he's getting
05:04his crash helmet on liam lawson he's got his hands device on too and i wonder if he is uh
05:08going out
05:09let us see uh we're on board with gabriel bortoletto with max verstappen improving in the middle sector
05:15and his mate uh gabriel bortoletto goes ahead of uh his teammate nico holkenberg there is an investigation
05:22if i a steward's investigation for alonso antonelli science will that be
05:29that'll be going slower out on track won't it uh yeah it's uh which often comes up and then nothing
05:35happens as a result of it there's uh mitigating circumstances verstappen goes second fastest uh
05:41behind george russell couple of tenths between them uh charles leclerc fastest in the first sector
05:47is going pretty well in the middle sector uh two and uh pierre gasly had just gone into p5 ahead
05:53of
05:54gabriel bortoletto as leclerc goes fastest and is nearly half a second quicker than george russell and
06:00the ferrari is is flying lewis hamilton makes it a ferrari one two separated by just under four
06:07tenths but the scuderia prancing along rather nicely at the moment but as colopinto goes six
06:13fastest here comes oscar piastri and lando norris who are both looking pretty decent and superb middle
06:20sector uh for oscar piastri it has to be said science crosses the line slowest lap time we've had so
06:26far
06:26piastri goes second fastest just mere hundreds behind charles leclerc game on absolutely yeah i mean
06:36ferrari mclaren have definitely made a step forward and they're very equal as well they're
06:40right in there with mercedes but norris they're nine tenths adrift and that's an alarming time that's
06:46not fast enough he'll have to do something else yeah that was all in the middle sector as well
06:50for lando norris where he lost that time uh to his teammates his dad adam watches on from the back
06:57of
06:57that mclaren garage and still bearman and limblad haven't gone out with just over four minutes
07:06remaining is this where lando norris lost all of that uh lap time in the middle sector that i was
07:10talking about a little bit tail endy wasn't it yeah oh he's got no no rear grip and that hop
07:17and skip
07:17and a jump of a chicane i told you about he missed the skip out in the middle
07:22uh but did put in an impressive slide to at least keep the car uh within uh the white lines
07:28and not
07:29exceed track limits right bottom six at the moment bearman and limblad haven't set a time
07:34science and albon hulkenberg and bortoletto so two out these two williams a hass and a racing bulls who
07:43might with uh with bearman and limblad uh just uh just decided to do one run here because they've
07:49already got some runs in on the medium tire save those uh fresh tires for one run and hope there's
07:55no yellow flags that was antoni trying to slow himself down and it seemed a bit of a struggle
07:59for him as we head down to 10. well limblad's gone out so if it is an investigation as for
08:04a deleted
08:05possible deleted time because of exceeding track limits crafty then it looks like it's ollie bearman
08:11i can't see i can just see down to hass but i can't as a car going out has behrman
08:16gone out
08:16behrman has no behrman hasn't limblad has limblad has gone out but behrman is out now i believe
08:23no behrman's coming down the pit lane now yeah he is okay so that seems to have been resolved yeah
08:28lawson can take that helmet back off again i think they were basically waiting to just do one lap in
08:33this second part of qualifying on fresh tires i hope that that extra grip uh will uh will get them
08:40a
08:40chance to to get through into the top 10 small margins uh and all of that oh liam lawson haven't
08:47done a little run this time of the uh this time of the afternoon you think it's not a bad
08:51time to go
08:52for a run but it's um sweltering hot out there there's a fit young lad i'm sure but there's a
08:57there's a swimming pool wherever you look at the uh the track around here waiting for him should he
09:01fancy a dip and norris is probably still just about safe isn't he on a 29 three for a top
09:0710
09:08but it's nervy very nervy indeed yeah can can you see can you see a the others improving by kind
09:18of
09:18half a second six tenths of a second yes it's it's possible depends on how much fuel they were carrying
09:24whether they were fuel for one or two laps in that yeah that first part but yeah he did say
09:28he lost a
09:29chunk of time that that is for sure so what lander can probably do is um have a slow lap
09:35fill the
09:35battery up and go again he's still saying his car is liam lawson just in case i mean you might
09:44as well
09:44be ready but i think the time has gone past now for actually getting out and getting a lap in
09:50if you're
09:50if you're not there's obviously something going on up at the stewards office isn't there in race control
09:55and the team will be um pushing something through but nothing has been displayed on our timing screen
10:03but he's not going to come out and get to the line and before the checkered flag so let's concentrate
10:08on those that are out there or actually first one that is oscar piastri they think he's safe no point
10:13coming out anymore no one's going to beat a 128 five and knock him out of qualifying and it's soft
10:19tires
10:19next so there's no point doing another lap i think mclaren charleclerc though the fastest man on track
10:24is out there and potentially going for another lap and norris is backed off on this lap as well so
10:30um
10:31on the current one let's see if he starts another flying lap he's got plenty of time to do that
10:36he is
10:37probably i think he looks like he's just making himself a bit of space but portal coming up behind him
10:41but uh will norris then go for another lap kimmy antonelli's just started a flying lap interesting
10:49to to focus on that a little bit max verstappen uh will be going for a flying lap soon but
10:54uh
10:54antonelli it seemed a bit of a struggle uh for him on his uh first lap here to get p6
11:01norris is going
11:02again right um isaac hadjars just had a lap time deleted a 130.0 but his that wasn't his best
11:10time
11:11so far right there's your track dominance portoleto and hulkenberg they're so closely matched in
11:17qualifying in terms of grand prix it's 14 13 as teammates in portoleto's favor there here is the
11:23brazilian then leaning on that long left-hander and hoping the car sticks which it does uh rather
11:29nicely charles claire has uh just crossed the line uh first car to take the checkered flag
11:36and 128.3 for charles claire uh was a little bit faster than his previous best so there is more
11:43to
11:43come from that ferrari it seems yeah it looks like a big fight doesn't it at the front and we'll
11:49see
11:49what mercedes can do if they can find a bit of speed of course we go on to a different
11:54compound of tire
11:55for sq3 that might uh that might throw a double six here and there for a few drivers who's improving
12:01in the bottom six color science in the middle sector ollie bearman uh is uh uh still down and
12:06has taken the checkered flag science has now taken the checkered flag they're both out couldn't improve
12:11enough arvid limblad uh has set off on another lap but it's not a fast lap so he's too is
12:16out of
12:16qualifying alex albon i think is out as well because he did a 42 seven in this first sector so
12:21that's not
12:22going to be improving much gabriel bortoletto hasn't been improving on his lap times either
12:27as he crosses the line and stays in 11th uh place so there's your bottom six decided anyone else out
12:34on the track doesn't really matter you're through to the final part of qualifying and this is george
12:38russell who uh like uh nico holkenberg and gabriel bortoletto haven't put any improvement in in any
12:44sector on that second lap kimmy antonelli did but stays p6 uh george russell stays p4 yeah russell
12:52half second slow but of course the tires have uh have had a punishment already and given up the
12:57best of their grip so that is that for a sprint qualifying two and for arvid limblad his first
13:07experience of a sprint here in miami it was the slowest time in that second part of uh qualifying
13:12he's coming into the pit lane now uh the two williams of science and album managed to get out
13:17of the first part and that was uh that was uh q2 just for them or sq2 just for them
13:23oliv behrman will
13:24start 13th behind nico holkenberg behind gabriel bortoletto and out in front it's charles leclerc
13:30who heads the way for ferrari he had a second lap extended his advantage over oscar piastro who didn't
13:37do a second lap but this could be nip and tuck with pole to come next
13:49welcome back to miami car signs out and not happy yeah one three steps behind where we should be all
13:57every lap and i'm not happy with this cannot be that after one hour and a half of practice we're
14:04still in this state procedure needs looking at i think in the mind of carlos sites yeah that's a
14:13powerful statement and carlos will know that that will be transmitted as well zach brown on the
14:19mclaren pit wall time to go for pole um the grand prix never been won from pole here the sprint
14:25race
14:25has zach um your cars up for this today capable of it it appears so um charles definitely seems to
14:33be extremely uh extremely quick but uh yeah i think uh both our cars have a shot here i know
14:41it's not
14:41really your department zach but do they give it a little tickle a front wing then when we go under
14:45the soft the soft tires now is there's there much of a change uh i didn't hear any change but
14:50uh that
14:51may have been pre-planned uh as you say when we change compounds sometimes they do uh give it give
14:57the front wing a little tickle as you say yeah and in terms of soft tire runs from earlier is
15:02that what
15:02what were the drivers and engineers saying about how the soft tire interacts in these temperatures as
15:08opposed to the medium uh i think it's definitely good for a lap it wouldn't be a very good uh
15:13race tire but
15:14um i think for a lap it's okay two not so sure we shall see thanks a lot zach and
15:20uh best of luck
15:21for this qualifying session mercedes have been one and two in every qualifying session this season
15:28sprint or gp this is not looking like that trend is going to carry on tonight it's going to be
15:34the
15:34story of this season as they find chunks of times out of it i think i described it back in
15:39melbourne as
15:39as a leapfrog year and we're seeing that this weekend in terms of teams finding a chunk of time
15:48and then mercedes will come back at them in canada but then ferrari and mclaren have got some upgrades
15:53there as well but um we are definitely you know that mercedes domination that we saw in the first three
15:59races could well be over just a word and a bit of a shout out here to franco colopinto who
16:05was about
16:06four tenths ahead of his teammates pierre gasly in that second part of sprint qualifying and has got
16:12himself into the top 10 green lights on by the way we can get going if the teams are ready
16:17to come out
16:17that's a tremendous effort i think from colopinto yeah it is it's a very good effort and um yeah both
16:26cars in there and uh isaac hadjo as well getting the second red bull right in there too but they
16:34uh
16:35flattered to deceive a little bit this morning because it looked like verstappen was riding the
16:38hunt didn't it after the end of the 90 minute session but he's not at this time look like he's
16:44got a front row pace in him let's see what the soft tyres do right ted kravitz as potentially expected
16:52here we've got a green light no one's coming out in a hurry because you get the feeling there's only
16:57one
16:58lap in these soft tyres when they're going for pole all the more opportunity for the big numbers of
17:04argentine fans crofty in the grandstand to keep on cheering franco colopinto there is a large argentine
17:10contingency here uh we're only eight hours on a on a quick plane between here and buenos aires
17:15and so uh yeah they were all shouting ole ole franco franco when he put it uh p8 in that
17:22session
17:22so well done to him ted you were in buenos aires for the show car run weren't you oh yeah
17:26you've
17:27mentioned that a couple of times you lucky man um noisy we're going to see it on sunday in our
17:33build-up but what was the atmosphere like honestly crofty don't give the game away with
17:37it'll be a nice surprise for everybody watching on sunday great feature we've got at home with
17:41franco colopinto yeah there was great support down there about 350 400 000 people came to the streets
17:46to see him so uh uh yeah if he shows the improvement he's showing so far then he's got a
17:51long history uh
17:52a long career ahead of him in formula one just another note i wanted to do on audi and uh
17:57the
17:57likes of ollie bearman and esteban ocon and over the break have we seen has dropped back a bit that's
18:03a question i'll be following over the weekend esteban ocon out in q1 spring qualifying one i know
18:09we've seen that before had a big lock-up didn't he yeah but no no nothing improvements really from
18:15ollie bearman uh only 13th and not able to get in the top 10 maybe as alpine go ahead maybe
18:21has
18:22have fallen back again by the way uh we can clear up the liam lawson mystery not not a book
18:27by agatha
18:27christie uh they were waiting to see if an investigation about alex alban and a track
18:31limits infringement would be upheld uh an appeal would be upheld by the stewards it was not alban was
18:37already on track and so that's why lawson was getting ready just in case we can see it now you
18:42mention it ted and as we haven't got any action on track let's have a little look at it now
18:47uh here's
18:48alex alban martin he got close i see yeah you can never tell on the on-board camera can you
18:56but
18:56that um yeah clearly not close enough when the stewards had a look at it front tire did look like
19:03it had crossed the line there but we don't know what the uh the rear right was doing and as
19:07always
19:08the the those zones curved line racetrack they sort of merge with tire rubber don't they in
19:13certain places what the stewards do have at their disposal is a lot more static cameras uh
19:18than that than we have at our disposal and they will have used those to make that determination right
19:24time to get those tire blankets off that's it come on this time the tires must be warming up now
19:28let's
19:28get out there shall we and uh see with under five minutes to go this could this could be a
19:33one-lap
19:34shootout it is a one-lap shootout between charlotte claire and lewis hamilton at ferrari oscar piastri
19:39and lando norris at mclaren george russell and kimmy antonelli at mercedes max verstappen and isaac
19:45hajar at red bull and franco colopinto and pierre gasly at alpine five teams only one can be on pole
19:54so far so good for charlotte claire it's a wonderful feeling sitting in the cockpit when the tire blankets
20:00come off and there's a brand new set of tires underneath them happy days you're going to get
20:06some free grip and look a bit of a hero maybe for lewis hamilton two sprint poles the last one
20:12being
20:13china in 2025 for charlotte claire only one previous career sprint pole came in azerbaijan in charlotte
20:20claire in 2023 and for franco colopinto by the way first sq3 appearance since austin 2024 haven't
20:28been searching for the history books uh his appearance in the top 10 here there's only 10
20:34cars going to be on track no one should be getting in anyone's way unless they've had a lock up
20:39it's not a case of cars on out lap and others on flying laps this uh this could be spicy
20:45yeah
20:46providing they don't make a mistake of course and cause yellow flags or double wave yellows at which
20:50point uh the lap all laps are negated uh at that point but this is the really tricky little section
20:57you've got to commit to it but if you get it wrong the walls are very close by and uh
21:03george russell then
21:04heading down the back straight weaving a little bit of trying to put some lateral energy into the tires
21:11he's he'll be watching that on his dashboard to exactly where he's at with his temperatures
21:17preparing everything like a as i've said before they're all like heating engineers basically at this
21:22point some things have to keep stay cool and other things need to be just right and others hot and
21:29uh
21:29off he goes then into what is quite a short pit straight and a big decision already then as to
21:36where
21:36is he going to break going into turn one but you want to get all the downshifting done get off
21:40the
21:40brake pedal pick the throttle up and then weave through this next part which is this endless series
21:48of corners one leads the exit one is the entry to the next one and uh let's drive four one
21:55car through
21:56there it looks tremendous and then seven tightens into a clumsy little eight ride the curb through the exit
22:03and just pull the pin and go and george russell then showing fastest because he's the first one
22:10with any pace uh through that first sector at the moment wings down and ready they'll close as soon as
22:16he hits the brakes and there they go and hamilton even faster in the first sector by half a second
22:24lewis
22:24hamilton faster than george russell george uh lando norris next through and about another tenth of a second up
22:32on lewis hamilton george russell has really uh i think pace wise through that first sector out of
22:39contention for a chance of pole here as charles claire puts in the 29.6 as well to match lando
22:45norris they're queuing up for pole here but mercedes who've got the one two on the grid at every single
22:50opportunity this year don't seem to want to join the queue no and soft tire of course as well so
22:56will
22:56they hang on for the entire lap we can see the back end of the mercedes there trying to get
23:02away from
23:02him short run to the line and a 28.493 is the benchmark so 28.4 is an improvement but
23:11is it an
23:12improvement enough because lando norris has put a brilliant middle sector in lewis hamilton crosses
23:17the line behind george russell so he goes into p2 now lando norris will be next to cross the line
23:23is it provisional pole for him yes it is first driver into the 127s in this session antonelli will
23:30be next to cross the line and then comes charles leclaire antonelli crosses the line now to start
23:36his flying lap leclaire goes second fastest has lost time and has lost the chance of pole but claren
23:43are on pole with lando norris and that is a bit of a turn up for the books given charles
23:48leclaire's
23:48pace so far this weekend and there's not really another hot lap in these tires we're hearing that
23:53lewis hamilton had a big slide in turn 17 that's the hairpin at the end of this back straight so
24:00that
24:00cost lewis hamilton as colopinto goes into currently p5 ahead of pierre gasly his teammate he is the lead
24:08of the alpines and they have been split by isaac hadjar who goes into p6 where's max for staff and
24:14gonna put his red bull former pole sitter here for a sprint blistering final sector half a second off
24:21the pace p3 for max for staff and p3 is where this race and the sprint was won from last
24:26year by lando
24:27norris he's on provisional pole his teammates oscar piastri who's with him on the front row and for the
24:34first time here in a miami sprint lando norris has out qualified oscar piastri but the man who was on
24:40pole last year was kimmy antonelli and he's decided to leave it until the final possible moment
24:47and he's just set the fastest middle sector so kimmy antonelli might have a chance for back-to-back
24:53sprint poles and that was sweet as through turn 17 exactly where he needed the car drives for the
24:59line can he do it well let's see check the flag is out it's front row for kimmy antonelli so
25:05mercedes
25:05stay on the front row at every single opportunity this season but for the first time in 2026 it's a
25:14non-mercedes works team that's grabbed pole and it is lando norris who manages to get a pole position
25:21for the sprint his fifth sprint pole the man who won from third last year gets the opportunity to
25:28start from first 12 months later he's been on it all day hasn't he lando norris and once again the
25:34correlation for mclaren of their upgrades with the wind tunnel the digital wind tunnel cfd and the
25:41stopwatch the grip the feel for the drivers all seems to work out when they bring an upgrade to
25:47their cars they've been doing that since two years at this race now haven't they they've been doing that
25:51at mclaren and once again their car is working nicely so charles declare only fourth fastest and that is
25:57where his chance for pole position just fell away from him wasn't much but he definitely lost a couple
26:04of tenths yeah but when you're wrestling the car like that you're not planting the throttle yeah
26:08that is it didn't look much did it but that's how close it is at the front and that you
26:14can't afford
26:14those little slides and moves lando norris p1 for the sprint here in miami this is exactly what
26:23mclaren wanted with that first big upgrade there's uh handshaking not the fist bumps from zach brown
26:29because no points are handed out uh in qualifying just to let you know the stewards are going to
26:35investigate alex albon for exceeding track limits in the first part of qualifying remember liam lawson
26:42was waiting to see if a decision could be made and he could take uh the place of alex album
26:48but the
26:48stewards are now going to go back and have a look at it which does seem to me what's the
26:51phrase martin a
26:52day late and a dollar short that's the one yeah that's uh that's taken a long time to have a
26:58look
26:58at that hasn't it because in all seriousness yeah okay alex albon you could uh you could penalize him
27:03for and take that lap away but that should have been done instantly so that a driver who should
27:09have been in the second part of qualifying could take part it happens with this format that we've got
27:13it can happen has happened and will happen again yeah where somebody's been unfairly treated or of course
27:20vice versa where they get the rub of the green oscar piastri then uh will start from the second row
27:28alongside charles leclerc beaten in a sprint qualifying here uh by uh lando norris for the first time and
27:38well kimmy antonelli gave it absolutely everything with a very good middle sector lost time in the first
27:43part of the lap and the decision to send him out i think last of all wasn't a bad one
27:48uh by bono
27:49because he did get the better of the track conditions and once again though kept his head
27:54didn't make mistakes and uh antonelli turning into the real deal isn't he certainly is
28:03championship leader and we'll start on the front row uh behind piastri and leclerc on row two
28:09verstappen and russell well we we've seen incidents in the past when those two uh uh get together for
28:16max verstappen uh p5 six tenths off the pace kind of where red bull were uh before the uh the
28:24little
28:24break but i think max a bit happier with the performance of the car i think so but what they've
28:30done is moved to where mclaren were yeah and mclaren and ferrari have moved on from that stand stand
28:36still you you fall behind that's what they say in this game standing still waiting for james henchcliffe
28:40lando norris and we are here with your sprint pole sitter lando norris lando you seem to like miami
28:47a little bit that was a pretty impressive run yeah uh was was was great perfect result for us nice
28:53way
28:54to uh to reward the team um you know we got a lot of new upgrades on the car so
28:58it's it's nice to feel
28:59some uh some grip again and nice to reward the guys and the girls that have put a lot of
29:03work into uh into
29:04this so no i i've always loved miami honestly uh both on and off the track so it's um it's
29:10a it's
29:11a good result for us of course just the beginning of the weekend you know still a long way to
29:14go but
29:14uh nice to uh to take it off by doing this it's got to be nice to see that those
29:18upgrades really worked
29:19i mean we know you brought a lot to miami but the gap to mercedes in those first few rounds
29:23was was
29:23pretty big were you expecting to make this much gain on the mercedes team uh i mean it's tough to
29:31it's
29:31tough to know every track's different right so it's we we always we've known that this track has
29:35always been good to us um but we knew that what we were bringing was going to hopefully do a
29:40good
29:40step and it has so it's nice that yeah our our estimations are proved correct and and the team
29:45deserved that they put a lot of work into all of these things you know um but since the first
29:49lap
29:49today i felt comfortable and i was like oh i've got a bit of rear grip and i felt good
29:54so i've always
29:55felt good around here and it's um it's always good to do it so uh good to start the weekend
29:59with the pole
29:59let's talk about the lap a little bit because we heard a lot of drivers talking about tire temperatures
30:03how difficult was it to kind of control them get them prepped in the right way and then keep the
30:06tires alive over the whole lap i was it was pretty tough um i mean my q2 was pretty woeful
30:12i was like one second off so you know it didn't fill me with confidence um into the final run
30:17and i was
30:18debating whether we do one lap two laps um will pushed me and said lando we're doing one lap and
30:24uh and it
30:24paid off you know so um it's been good good work from the whole team we got everything in a
30:28good window
30:28straightaway so i'm very proud of them um but the lap was good it was good apart from one corner
30:3316
30:33onto the back straight um completely missed it just yeah didn't didn't want to get it today so
30:39um difficult conditions also with the wind the wind can can play a big effect you know so uh i'm
30:44just
30:44happy i'm happy to be back here it's been a been a little while you know so um just a
30:48perfect way for
30:49me to start the weekend too well you've had success here in the past continuing best of luck tomorrow
30:52will do cheers dude thank you and a big session there in the context of the season as he was
31:00saying lando has been on it all weekend is down i will be enjoying that and as zach said in
31:05the build
31:05up they have become specialists at developing cars for the last couple of years no one has been better
31:13and it looks like they're at it again those upgrades clearly have worked for them like they've worked for
31:18ferrari and kimmy antonelli was quick but four teams in the top five and that really does auger
31:25well after the first uh three races where it looked like mercedes domination that's not the case here it
31:32would seem in miami a few issues especially for george russell we'll discuss that momentarily details for
31:38the rest of the weekend the sprint itself uh tomorrow from four o'clock local oh no that's not local
31:43that's local to you in the uk qualifying from eight o'clock in the evening and on sunday
31:50uh seven o'clock on air nine o'clock for the miami grand prix lights out lots to look forward
31:57to as well
32:11i'm always trying to add to the history of mclaren but it's always cool to kind of celebrate it
32:16oscar's driving a hamilton car for me that's kind of just as i started to watch f1 so it's pretty
32:21special to be in that car for me i'm like damn what a lucky guy when i was growing up
32:29i was really
32:29following checo he was the driver that felt the closest to argentina and we didn't have an argentine
32:36driver i am very happy that the kids the fans of motorsport are able to grow up with an argentine
32:46railroad when we do like between australia and china i got to play uh royal melbourne which was
32:51which was pretty good so there's some some nice ones on the tour but you've got to kind of squeeze
32:56it in between the actual day job don't you but i think we're there caddy you here yeah i keep
33:00losing
33:00myself right we've got come on come on too much over here too much nachos
33:15oh my gosh you're like on the limit yeah you're on the limit always always on the limit
33:27yeah three more shows for you including the sprint and the man on pole position for that is the world
33:33champion mclaren they're back norris takes the sprint pole reaction in a couple of moments time
33:51lando norris the first man to out qualify a mercedes in any race or sprint qualifying uh this season
34:01127 869 kimmy antonelli put in a blistering last couple of sectors to try to close that gap down but
34:06in the end it was enough but is it fair to say oh this is good for the championship it
34:11is isn't it
34:12i think it was a little bit we're a little bit unsure that kimmy was going to put it that
34:15far up so
34:16great lap by lando really was um and it's it's lovely to see it's not been the easiest start to
34:21the year for mclaren no i mean charles looking really really strong on the mediums but then on
34:25the softs the ferraris kind of fell away a little bit is that is do you think the tire changes
34:30the
34:30difference for that i mean could be one of the reasons it's also really really hot out there i mean
34:34it was a bit of a weird issue for him in the hip in there it looked like he just
34:37couldn't get it
34:37slowed down enough and then rotate it so he lost a bit of time on the exit there but
34:41really good really positive i mean we knew that we were going to see a lot of changes with all
34:45these
34:45developments and upgrade packages but it was looking really like it was going to be mercedes
34:49yeah now it looks like it's still anyone's right the year is completely open and um it's a good
34:54result and i think it's going to keep this everyone coming back to watch more and great lap by antonelli
34:58in the end there to keep it interesting let's just get into what zach said beforehand i mean he called
35:02it
35:02he said we are pretty good at developing our cars and you know further evidence there whatever they've got back
35:07at the factory in terms of correlation we understand it it probably took them a race to get
35:11to understand the systems the deployment of the electrical stuff but for them now it really seems
35:17like they've nailed it on haven't they they really are good from factory to track yeah i mean they
35:22already had a reasonably good car in in japan you know it wasn't as quick as the mercedes but
35:27they still could have won that race if the safety car didn't go kimmy's way so they were quick then
35:32and
35:32now with these upgrades yeah it's it's lovely to see that uh especially lando has uh has come out
35:38strong here and uh and got that uh that sprint pole okay uh let's go to ted he's with andrea
35:43stella
35:46well well well well andrea that is what they call a turn up for the books i know it's early
35:49in the
35:49in the weekend lots of uh lots of stages to go through but that must be incredibly into uh
35:56it must make you and everyone in the team quite happy that uh i think you say right first of
36:01all
36:01is very early in the weekend but we have had some uh encouraging indications already in free practice
36:07where we saw that the upgrades that we brought here they were delivering as expected obviously when we
36:13saw the list of upgrades from all teams this morning we saw like hey everyone is basically taking a new
36:19car or at least uh 50 of the of the pit lane so we said let's see who's done a
36:26better job and i have to
36:27say that like uh they have demonstrated in the past uh men and women at mclaren they've done a really
36:34really good job of uh designing manufacturing delivering these upgrades um so it's good to see
36:41mclaren again in the leading position in a qualifying session even if it's only friday and it's a sprint
36:48qualifying session but it's encouraging okay um how much time do you think you've found is it possible to
36:54say zach brown's book is called seven tenths of a second and i checked the last time we had a
36:58uh
36:58sprint qualifying in china and lando was third not a bad result but he was six tenths of the pole
37:04back
37:04then so have you found six tenths i don't think we can confirm zach's book's title like seven tenths
37:10it was a few tenths of a second uh i think we can see in the lap times you know
37:15it's a bit of a turn
37:15around in terms of lap times um but let's see mercedes you know ultimately when on the soft tires when
37:23they put everything together they were very close uh so i think um it's also interesting for the sport
37:29we have seen red bull more competitive ferrari mclaren i think that's good we should have good
37:35racing here in miami and hopefully good racing in in the following races but what's important is that
37:41mclaren is there and we can have a very interesting uh uh competition great stuff thank you very much
37:46andrea we'll see you for the sprint tomorrow well let's take a look at how his driver lando norris took
37:54that sprint port he's on the left kimmy antonelli on the right now down into turn one a lot of
38:00drivers
38:00struggling under braking here and antonelli looks like just went a little bit deep not a full lockup
38:05but just a bit of under rotation there that compromised his line in the exit when he came out of
38:11that
38:11corner now through turns four five at six it looks like the mclaren has just that ability to chuck the
38:19speed in lando really really confident the car on the way in different lines for both drivers we just
38:25slow down here you can have a look as we come through the long long left hand of seven into
38:30eight
38:30lando slightly tighter line antonelli choosing a slightly wider line i think the mclaren actually
38:36if i go back and use that curve as a reference there you can see how much lando is ahead
38:42of
38:43antonelli he gained three tenths in the first sector now interestingly i was just looking at some of the
38:48mercedes comparison and speaking to the engineers antonelli was actually quicker than george russell by
38:53some margin through that high speed section so it does seem like it's a car characteristic where mclaren
39:00have added that aerodynamic upgrade and performance it's paid dividends here let's look down into the
39:06turn 11 braking zone again i'll just slow down here and lando on this occasion there a little bit
39:13tentative with the wheel going in slightly different line and then had a little bit of a snap so that
39:18put
39:18him on a tighter trajectory than i think he would have liked for 12. and through this entire section
39:24really nothing to choose between them martin mentioned the judgment here on that curb i just want to
39:30show you look at them up against that wall it's incredible isn't it to see how close he is to
39:35that
39:35wall there beautiful judgment from lando and all this brings the car back now he talked about this
39:40slight under rotation into 16 let's watch look at the front left tire there and it's unfortunately
39:46slightly in the shadow but you can see just had a bit of a lock up slightly wider that curve
39:50and then
39:51he gets that snap as he tries to unleash the power down the back straight so lando himself said that
39:57was the
39:57only thing that he felt didn't quite get hooked up around the lap into the final braking zone here
40:03and the drivers making sure they're in exactly right settings they need for the harvesting and
40:09the brake balance both drivers have to say did a good job of getting the nose into the apex at
40:14a corner
40:14which has been difficult not as hard as still one but still difficult for a lot of drivers so really
40:19all
40:19the time lost for antonelli was in sector one in sectors two and three hardly anything we're talking
40:24hundreds between them but it was that slight bit of hesitation at term one and the entry through
40:30four five at six but the mclaren seemed to have the upper hand thank you
40:38okay right let's uh get straight to george russell issues with grip and a little bit of deployment we
40:43understand here he is talking uh to rachel hey george um it just felt like you guys were just generally
40:50a
40:51little bit off today can you talk me through fp1 and your kind of feelings after not quite making
40:55it through to the front row today yeah i mean pretty surprising how big a jump uh mclaren and
41:00ferrari have made so that's pretty pretty damn impressive we knew they'd probably close the gap but
41:05uh you know all day they've been quicker than us my side i've been struggling uh today miami's not a
41:10track that i love to be honest especially these hotter conditions um but you know it's only spring
41:16qualifying so let's see what tomorrow brings what were the key struggles today what what kind of
41:21was the feel where were you feeling like you were kind of missing something i just overheating the
41:24tires a lot in that twisty section in the middle i was struggling to get uh the right balance with
41:29with
41:29the car um so yeah not much more to say than that really as i said just being quite surprised
41:36by
41:36the progress of the others um but another day tomorrow and do you think it will take a lot to
41:41take the fight to them tomorrow i don't know you know i'm not in a great starting position sprint
41:48races generally don't offer that much but obviously you know china was a bit more interesting this year
41:55um which gives an opportunity to have a bit of a race so yeah i want to get off the
41:59line hopefully
41:59don't lose any more positions and see what we can do that's like policy used to rachel that obviously
42:06wasn't Rachel that was Lawrence barretto asking the questions i think what would bother him most is that
42:10he was four tenths of his teammate though yeah he i'm sure he would not have liked that but i
42:14guess
42:14what's even more concerning for him is he doesn't seem to be getting the most out of the car he
42:18doesn't have that confidence because he doesn't have the balance that he needs and you know even
42:21though with this is not a street circuit it sort of feels like one when you're out there the walls
42:25are very nearby and you can't push yourself to your limits if you're not feeling like the car's going
42:29to do what you want it to do and to look across the garage and see that your t your
42:32much younger
42:33teammates who's much less experienced is able to just extract so much i mean that comparison that that
42:38karoon showed us with him and and um and norris you it almost looked like he had a cleaner lap
42:44than
42:44norris did out there actually so he just extracted everything out of the car in the session so we
42:48talked about we know that they've their big upgrade package by the way in case you weren't watching
42:51earlier comes in uh in montreal in two weeks time they've given themselves so they're kind of out of
42:56sync with the other two that are challenging them most closely when we see that but but at the same
43:02time
43:02they've just been off it slightly this weekend from the start i mean they were fighting fires
43:06weren't they with kimmy's car at the end of practice but also george had something up with it
43:10yeah we all have bogey tracks you know as drivers but it's surprising how far he is off of kimmy
43:16in
43:16qualifying there so he's a bit downbeat but you know this is one race weekend but he's just got to
43:21maximize what he can do with the car uh in the in the championship fight but um no mclaren looks
43:27quick
43:27really quick uh the the ferraris dropped away a little bit in an sq3 which is quite surprising
43:33uh but um it's it's great for us seeing all this action and different people at the front in every
43:39session 100 we'll come back to ferrari but let's focus on max for the moment this time it's definitely
43:45rachel hi max it looks like you've made a big step with the car i know it's not where you
43:51want to be
43:51yet but does it feel like you've made a big step coming here it feels um more together uh of
43:57course
43:57uh still things that uh we are working on but it's been a really positive step for us um you
44:03know
44:03last few races we were like over a second behind um i would say we have almost half that gap
44:09now
44:09so that's positive we're still very weak in the first sector which is mainly high speed
44:14um so we know that we need to work on that um but yeah the rest seemed all a bit
44:19more together so
44:19a bit happier with that um at least it seems like we we have cleared a little bit the the
44:25midfield let's
44:25say that and does it feel better driving because i know in the past you've said various things
44:29on the radio just things you need from the car does it feel better and suit you better now or
44:33feels a bit more normal a bit more together it's still not where i wanted to be obviously but
44:37it's it's uh at least allowing me to to trust it a bit more and i can tell you well
44:43i can basically
44:43take a bit more lap time out of it thank you thanks very much that's a problem i think i
44:48was talking
44:49to one of the uh the judge commentators i think the main issue that they were finding is that they
44:53were getting you know different reactions from the car in the same corner and he couldn't trust
44:58it as he pointed out there i mean that was one of the issues but as he also mentioned to
45:02half the gap
45:03it seems that max is a little bit happier yeah and i think that everything that the drivers are
45:07doing out there now is maybe a little bit more you know what comes to them second nature you know
45:11it's a little bit more in the nature of what drivers do out there and of course you can see
45:15that
45:15the gap's closing but there's still obviously more work for them to do i don't think max is here to
45:19you know fill the numbers and be down in six or fifth or wherever he is yeah i mean we're
45:25hyping
45:25it up but it is still fifth it is still a little over half a second off the pace uh
45:28but it's a step
45:29in the right direction you also know with max that he's absolutely going to call it as he sees it
45:34yeah
45:34if he thinks there's been some improvements in qualify not where he wants it but better that's
45:39encouraging it is and if you look at his sectors sector two and sector three were very strong
45:43especially sector three he was purple for most of the session uh it's the high speed that they seem to
45:48be
45:48struggling and it's not just a small amount either he was six tenths down i think in the first
45:53second you hauled it back didn't you so it's it's the high speed they need to work on low speed
45:58mechanical grip seems to be good straight line speed's good so it's the high speed which isn't
46:01an easy thing to work on you can't just bolt more down for someone so it's going to take a
46:05bit of time
46:06but at least they they know where the issues lie okay when we come back we're going to take a
46:10short
46:10break we'll discuss where and how uh ferrari fell away in that session because it was looking really good
46:15for charlotte claire uh on the mediums but then less so on the soft so uh leclerc in fourth his
46:22teammate lewis hamilton in seventh
46:32the back as i was uh mentioning before the break ferrari somewhat fell away in sprint qualifying fourth
46:39and seventh here they both are so how was that how did you find the updates that he brought uh
46:48upgrades are dry are fine it's just that it's everybody brought upgrades so we kind of expected
46:55that situation where mercedes is probably still the car to to beat mclaren did a very big step
47:01forward but i felt like they didn't really optimize their first races of the season so they were always
47:06there but they didn't put everything together on our side we have just been today particularly we've
47:12struggled with tires medium were working very well on the soft it wasn't it wasn't a nice feeling so
47:19on that we've got to to look at it we know that in the race pace we are stronger but
47:25in terms of
47:27qualifying there's just some work to be done i was going to ask you then how do you see the
47:30rest of
47:30the weekend panning out then from what you've learned today um well i think in qualifying tomorrow
47:37we can try and fine-tune a little bit and find a bit of performance but uh i hope that
47:42in uh in the
47:43race we can come back in the front we've got the pace to do uh to do that uh let's
47:48just see if we are
47:48able to overtake how was it today how was the car today i don't perform and was it as expected
47:56i know
47:56you had that little slide but other than that um no i just we didn't really know what to expect
48:02i
48:02i had hoped that we would be better um but yeah i would the car didn't feel particularly great
48:10lots of teams bought upgrades you've brought quite a big package were the team expecting more from
48:14here or will it be better at other tracks do you think i have no idea sorry i have no
48:18idea i thought
48:19we would be stronger than we were today um i'm gonna have to do some work over the over overnight
48:25to try and figure out why we're not that quick and um yeah i was hopeful coming in positive that
48:34we're gonna be much higher but um not meant to be yeah it's strange um we've discussed it we talked
48:43about the fall away for the soft but if you look at tomorrow we know they're amazing off the line
48:49and we know they're decent on the medium so they've got a lot to look forward to they could
48:53easily win this couldn't they from where they are yeah they could i mean p4 to p1 is tricky it's
48:58a
48:58short run in down to turn one isn't it um it does mean there's gonna be a lot of action
49:02into turn one
49:02and we always find that here so looking forward to that uh but yeah they'll they'll be disappointed
49:06with that they've looked on it all weekend especially charles uh and to be was he four tenths
49:11off pole it's it's a lot you two keep saying all weekend it's been all day right you know it's
49:16just been
49:16one day it feels like it's been a week it hasn't been a weekend yet it's just been a day
49:19um but
49:20no it's true i mean they've obviously got an extremely long it's been a day it's not even the
49:26weekend it's friday as well isn't it um no it's a very long list of upgrades obviously so i think
49:30they they wanted and would have expected more but it's natural right everybody's making upgrades
49:35you can never really know what everybody's got in the bag and now we get the pecking order and
49:39they'll have more understanding of what they can unlock of course tomorrow after the sprint they'll be
49:43able to change a few things and as you said sunday's another day most points to be collected
49:47there might be some tweaks for them to make i think interestingly there's such sort of big gaps between
49:52teammates and um between teams which is unusual right so i think they still haven't found their
49:57feet they haven't found the setup that really works them around here it's hot it's a tough track
50:01it's still improving so i think tomorrow will yeah we'll get a much closer race than what we have here
50:07in
50:07call a question and you know if we are to believe the weather forecast it could be vastly different
50:11come sunday anyway so see it is a long weekend ahead isn't it it is a long long weekend two
50:16more days
50:16but uh but a couple of mistakes as well karoon what have you spotted with your eagle eyes
50:23yeah that's right i don't know if the ferrari drivers were struggling a little bit with grip and
50:27balance on the soft tire because if you look at the best mclaren you know they they found seven
50:33tenths from the medium to the soft in sq3 uh the best mercedes was nine tenths the best ferrari
50:39leclerc only found two tenths hamilton only one tenth so yes there were mistakes but i think they
50:43just didn't quite look like they had the car underneath them this is leclerc into 11 a little
50:48bit of instability on the braking that created a bit more of a snap as he went through the corner
50:54and then
50:54didn't quite have the grip through that whole sector one corner the other when we got to 17 the final
51:01corner of the lap let's have a look at it here as he comes down the straight he gets on
51:06the brakes
51:06and then goes deep and misses the apex there so that cost him some lap time and interestingly his
51:12teammate lewis hamilton also struggling at turn 17 but in a slightly different way just slow it down here
51:18he turns in and he's got a rear instability there see the car with i think the rear tires may
51:24be quite
51:25hot at that point obviously and just came around on him so poor minimum speed and then poor traction as
51:30well but i think maybe ferrari need to think about in these hot temperatures whether they need to
51:35make a few more changes for the softer tires thank you kareem what i mean how are you fancying their
51:40chances tomorrow from from from where they are i think if you look at where the race runs were and
51:46everything they did on the mediums they were up there with mclaren's it's only on that last run that
51:51they dropped back so i think if they can understand where where the performance went away maybe they need
51:56to change what they do the outlabs or their procedures then the inherent car performance
52:01i think is there it just didn't work on that tire for them in practice they were three tenths up
52:06the
52:07road on that tire yeah but i think generally we've seen though jancy on in practice ferrari show their
52:14hand a bit more um that's been the trend hasn't it and if you look at the long runs it
52:19was pretty close
52:20between uh ferrari mclaren they're up there anyway let's take a stroll we can go back into the to the
52:24stadium let's pick out another couple of things i think i wrote it down what what carlos sites said
52:28because actually as martin pointed out it was a powerful statement he comes in he says we are three
52:34steps behind where we should be at every point this weekend i'm not happy about this after an hour and
52:40a
52:40half's practice uh still to be in this state kind of like it's not good enough but it's also a
52:46pointed
52:46statement to i was listening to james vows and the team principles press conference in between
52:51you know he's been going on about we're breaking we've been trying to stress test the system back
52:58at base back at the factory tried to do that at a level that's just below um a championship um
53:04title
53:05winning team you know he's obviously got experience from what they did at mercedes and he was talking
53:09about just little things problem with the software back at base a number of things adding up
53:15to being where they are at the moment whichever way it stacks up though the job that's being done
53:21over the winter was not what we were expecting no but i mean not everyone is going to get quicker
53:28over the winter not everyone's going to be fighting for wins it's just the way this sport is and sometimes
53:32teams don't quite get it together but um it's a little bit surprising one because the trajectory over
53:39the last few years you know with james in in charge it's been very positive and then having this setback
53:44it's uh yeah it's it's a big deal for a team that's have so much positive energy around it yeah
53:50and the
53:50fact that they also obviously were hyping up the fact that they were kind of sacrificing the last couple
53:54of years for this year and then they've come out and not delivered very much you could tell that the
53:59drivers are getting a little bit more impatient i suppose i think they too are trying to stress the
54:05system as much as possible to make sure they're trying to get the most out of it but as you
54:08say
54:08if there's more issues going on in the background and they've got a stress test system kind of like
54:12what i did with my husband to prepare him for this weekend you've got to find out where your sore
54:16points
54:16are to look after yourself to look after the baby yeah gotta stress the system you know see where the
54:21problems are and then you know that you can make progress right this is what we've got to work on
54:24etc and so i think they're building but yeah again that car's very overweight they've lost a bit of weight
54:29it
54:29sounds like and um yeah apparently he's under investigation though alex alban i believe for
54:34a trip that's a strange one this jews didn't call it straight away though yeah okay anyway perhaps
54:39reflect on that a little bit uh later or tomorrow uh before we go let's see from the lp drivers
54:46franco it uh it looks like you need to take a little trip to buenos aires before every race doesn't
54:50it that was a great performance you pleased yeah i'm happy i'm happy because we turned around something
54:56that you know was it was quite tough and it took us a while to understand um and i think
55:01we are
55:01finally enough getting in the rhythm and understanding some of the pace that we lacked and yeah doing
55:07good laps all day in a track that i know in a spring weekend that is more difficult and yeah
55:13just all
55:13very positive to think it's been a good break for us to kind of reset and go again and understand
55:20where
55:20we need to work and we worked i think really well in the on the right directions and yeah i'm
55:24pleased with
55:24the performance today but of course just the start of the weekend did you get enough information in
55:29first practice to know what sort of race pace you can expect and whether you can hold those positions
55:33or even move forward we'll try i think pace is looking strong um compared to the midfield cars we
55:39are good and even compared to the red wheel of isaac we are competitive wearing used tires at the end
55:44and we were weaker than than him so it's looking strong i think that we can hear with all the
55:49low speed
55:49corners it's looking much more positive than than suzuka for me and i'm very happy for that
55:57hey pierre well you've made a bit of a habit of kind of getting into the top 10 in quali
56:01how do
56:01you feel about where you ended up today uh yeah unfortunately not really good because uh it's
56:06been very difficult since this morning uh we've seen something it's not quite working on on my side
56:11and i'm having a lot of wheel spin and unfortunately we didn't really have enough time to get to the
56:16bottom of it but uh yeah hasn't felt good um so we'll have to work out to to improve it
56:23for tomorrow
56:23because i think i'm going to struggle a lot in the race um as it stands but still managed to
56:27get
56:27the two cars in the top 10 which is good um but we just have a lot more potential to
56:32to unlock yeah
56:33i was going to say considering all the problems you've had that the potential does seem much higher
56:37with the package yeah which is the reason why i'm a little uh disappointed because it just doesn't feel
56:42right um since the first lap this morning and yeah it's just the spring weekend doesn't really give us
56:48much time to understand so um we see but the moment we don't fully understand it so we'll work out
56:54and
56:54and um yeah we'll try to do better tomorrow uh it's the first time in uh any qualifying session that
57:02freka color pinto has out qualified pierre gasly he certainly seems to be trending in the right
57:07direction yeah it kind of needs to right it's not been the easiest uh start to the year for him
57:12or end
57:13last year so pierre has been on it he really has and uh to out qualify him here in the
57:18sprint
57:18qualifying i think it's a great achievement it really is and it'll give him confidence hopefully
57:22for the rest of the weekend yeah you can just see i mean the value of that mercedes engine at
57:26the back
57:26of the car and from front blast into this sort of position where they're regularly competing to get
57:33into q3 and pick up points is good well it was a decision that i think upset a lot of
57:37people when
57:38the decision was made to get rid of the renault engine and a lot of politics behind it but at
57:42the end
57:42of the day it looks like the right call and it's been an environment with a lot of instability in
57:46the past but it feels like they are really now starting to find their feet and as you say you
57:51get into the top 10 regular uh it's a good place to be in uh what are we expecting for
57:56tomorrow i find
57:57these saturdays and sprint weekends fascinating as you mentioned it looks like we could have quite an
58:02interesting sprint race itself probably all on the mediums because they've only got another set of
58:06hearts haven't they and then of course our park ferme and you think it'll be a different story if they
58:10can tweak the cars for qualifying for the race proper yeah of course i mean tomorrow the all
58:15eyes will be on the race in the morning and it's exciting for us i think you know picking a
58:20winner
58:20is very difficult but for the guys out there yeah also they haven't raced wheel to wheel yet around
58:25here with the new systems you know with less deployment and it's it's going to be interesting
58:31to see how they deal with it all and uh they're really going to have to think on their feet
58:34tomorrow and
58:35i'm excited about seeing that do not traditionally attract you get too much overtaking but we don't
58:39know because it's a new era of formula one it is a new era formula one and there are a
58:43couple of
58:44long straights so i think that we will see some overtaking tomorrow but it's always a great thing
58:47with a sprint weekend is you kind of get a taste of what you're going to get on sunday so
58:50we're going
58:51to find out soon thank you both uh appreciate it yeah that's uh where we are we're in the middle
58:56of the
58:57hard rock stadium now and yeah well we're looking forward to a busy saturday of action with the
59:04the sprint from four o'clock qualifying for the race itself uh from eight but lando norris first
59:10time this year that the mercedes has been out qualified see you tomorrow bye
