00:05this program contains flashing images
00:18hello and a seismic welcome to a very cool paddock here in the United States in the lone star state
00:25of Texas the temperatures have dropped massively today at least 10 degrees the wind has got up as
00:31you can see we're uh we're all dressed yesterday it was boiling hot and we were complaining but
00:36an amazing change of weather around this incredible circuit it looks resplendent as ever with the
00:41incredible paint work a very different situation to the one that we were in last week how do you
00:48feel about being back in the states love it you know i i lived out here for a while i
00:52raced in
00:52america the fans love it i know it's not the most popular sport here but there's actually not much
00:57tourism at the moment people aren't coming into the states we've noticed that haven't we we haven't
01:01seen uh many uk fans yeah yeah yeah and downtowns are much quieter than it normally is but i mean
01:06they know how to put on a show here everything's bigger and better in the states and uh yeah it's
01:10a it's a unique place and i've got to say i love being here even the waffles are bigger aren't
01:14they
01:15sylvan yeah all the waffles like this morning i just i think i had a little bit too much sugar
01:19maybe
01:19this morning yeah i just needed to let you know that he's eaten an awful lot of sugar this morning
01:24because you will feel it throughout the day but it's but it's this this drop in weather
01:30uh obviously very different to yesterday for the for the bikes here comes fabs beeping away
01:37there he is you spent a bit of time with him on the track didn't you i know he was
01:41lovely we had a
01:42little run together it was it was great gave me lots of advice actually because he's a he's a very
01:46good runner you know endurance runner he does a lot of run for his running for his training so yeah
01:50right let's get stuck in to mark marquez the king of cota seven wins around here but it didn't start
01:55as he wanted it to had a massive crash yeah well he got caught out you know he um unfortunately
02:01very
02:01early on in the in the first session he um went into turn 10 and as you can see there
02:07he's going to
02:08lose the front really early now unfortunately for mar this is a fourth gear corner so he really hurt
02:13himself when he um went into the gravel so he's hurt his right arm hurt his left hand unfortunately
02:20no massive injury but look at the impact as he reaches in the in the gravel there the bike went
02:25all the way to the wall the session was red flagged and yeah so he got uh he got caught
02:29out there a few
02:30bumps there yeah he uh he went out uh this in the afternoon and went fastest you know he did
02:36a mark
02:36marquez but he spoke to gav and when gav was talking to him said that the you know the rash
02:41was so bad
02:42on his arm that all it was bleeding through all the bandages that he had and he also said something
02:48else that was interesting that we thought he'd like to hear mark 120 mile an hour crash in the
02:54morning top in the afternoon first things first how are you yeah i mean uh not the best way to
03:00start
03:00the weekend especially with that big crash that was completely my mistake because uh i didn't check
03:08well how was the track uh austin track from one year to the other one looks like he's moving a
03:14bit
03:14the asphalt and are new bumps and uh and yeah in that corner i had the memory to do it
03:19one way
03:19and uh i checked that uh was not the way but i checked with a massive crash lucky for us
03:25uh not big
03:26injuries but uh pain pain a lot of pain especially on the neck and on the back now it's time
03:31to to be
03:32calm and work with the physio for tomorrow yeah that's really interesting isn't it and as i said
03:39he went out in the afternoon and he posted the fastest time but the fact that the track moves
03:44every year that's wild isn't it yeah those bumps are moving and yesterday actually i had the opportunity
03:50for the first time i've never been around i did the onboard lap and through turn 10 there's massive
03:55bumps so yeah they have to the riders have to adapt and through through that that turn 10 that's
04:00that's why he crashed his there's very little load on the front tire you're actually accelerating
04:04through it the rear is spinning a bit push the front and that's why he crashed yeah you had to
04:08readjust took a bit of time for mark to find his rhythm after that but eventually got it obviously
04:14formula one come here later in the other other cars are on the circuit as well and and it moves
04:18now let's get stuck into where mark is making up the time then uh against bez how is it working
04:25out
04:25there well it's interesting and it's as you would think it's the faster corners you can see the
04:30aprilia turning really well we've got a perfect example because we've got their fastest laps don't
04:33have a look at them yeah yes yeah so if we if you look at it no you thought no
04:38no you go back to the
04:39commentary box neil so if you look at it so this is up to turn one what i'm gonna do
04:42let me just get
04:43ready to pause it right so we're looking at marco bezek is here on the outside and as you can
04:51see
04:51that's mark markers ignore the riders behind right yeah so watch it as i play it forward now we're
04:58out of turn one mark marquez has already gained on mark up and said goodbye about a bike length
05:02looks pretty good but now we're coming into the turning part of the track these long corners
05:06just watch this aprilia just it just eats up ground on the ducati and mark marquez not only is he
05:12faster
05:12he's able to hold a tighter line which through this section it pays dividend later on so he's at the
05:19time you're looking now you think well he hasn't gained that much but wait till you get here so as
05:23he
05:23turns into turn four then through five it starts to grow even more on the longer right hand corners
05:30and essentially through this this is we're coming to the end of the first split bez is about a tenth
05:35of a second quicker than mark marquez so that's that and you think well of course bez is going to
05:40continue pulling away all the gaps going to stay the same we're about to get i'm going to speed it
05:44up
05:44now let's go to normal speed we're going to get to the part of the track there when mark really
05:49excels now we're going to come through nine up over ten i'm just going to pause i'll stop this
05:55on the other side of here just so you can have a good look at where the gaps are so
05:58just zoom in a
06:00bit so you can see there that's mark mark is it bez is in front and marks behind so it's
06:06quite it's
06:07it's quite a decent gap actually if you look at it i don't know what in bite lens what we're
06:11saying
06:1110 bite lens maybe eight watch what happens next so now this is what why mark's been so successful
06:18here over the years the braking zones the left hand corners in one corner it pretty much makes it
06:24all back one tight nudge horrible airpin what he excels at where he uses all the rear brake and look
06:30at that it's basically he's come out of the corner there and he is with bez he's he's gained all
06:37that
06:37time back let's play it forward at normal speed they then go down the straight and obviously
06:42speeds of the bikes are about the same so look you can see them equal but we're going to get
06:47to
06:47another hairpin corner another braking point and watch look at this i mean it's just that's huge
06:53isn't it it's not massive is he a little bit better in the braking zones it's tenths of a second
06:58and mark gains up two tenths of a second in that those two corners alone because you wouldn't think
07:03like where's mark gaining times in the tight naggery bits you wouldn't have that but it's the
07:07braking then it's all about the braking it's all about braking into left hand corners i talked about
07:13yesterday during the session the way he uses the rear brake all the riders use the rear brake but
07:17mark is able to to squat his bike down and it he has it on the absolute limit but this
07:25is what i'm
07:26thinking this is what's going to happen and we've seen it in recent years he's not won here because
07:30he rode over the limit i think mark's lacking in other areas and he's having to really force the
07:34areas he's good at and we've seen him crash out at this track on these corners and nearly always in
07:40the lead he's either won the race or he's crashed out in the lead apart from one race that he's
07:44ever
07:44started i think that's what we've to keep our eye on on certainly today i mean in the sprint i
07:49think
07:49it's he's a chance but in the main race he's always going to be trying to take more take more
07:55risk more
07:55and then eventually you're down it's going to be able it's going to be very difficult to overtake him
07:59there because he's so strong in those zones yeah because he's going to have to sneak on him somewhere in
08:04the you know the left right left right and that's very difficult to overtake their sector one
08:07yeah sneaky sneaky could win by being sneaky okay uh thank you for that very good right let's take
08:13a short break and when we come back uh they'll be on track you might have seen them going into
08:18the garages behind us uh free practice two is on the way
08:31the lotto jackpot must be won must be won must be won yes the 15 million pound lotto jackpot must

10:04hello welcome back to our live coverage of the circuit of the americas the u.s grand prix free
10:09practice two has just started as you can see and sylvan has gone to the box to join michael
10:14and gavin in these very cool windy conditions gav so different yesterday completely different isn't
10:20it susie yesterday we talked about the track temperatures being up towards 50 degrees and
10:24the surface getting greasy and that creating another bit of a problem for the riders now it's
10:29the complete opposite um talk about 20 degrees and that the track temperature not much higher as well
10:34the wind is going to be something to keep an eye it's a vast circuit this only sapang and silverstone
10:39are longer than this it's a big long expanse about a mile from uh one in turn 11 where they
10:46are right
10:46there to back to the paddock a long long stretch out of a circuit and uh yeah the wind is
10:52able to just
10:53whip around these riders as they head out on their first laps out of the pit silvan's been his way
11:00back
11:00to join myself and michael here in the commentary booth and that's a bit of a challenge isn't it
11:04now michael to just switch the chip again from yesterday when grip was maybe at a premium maybe
11:10it's better that turn 12 sector we saw there a lot of the riders talk about that that the track
11:15uh
11:15the surface is new in there and so that's got a little bit of a different feeling just all these
11:20things you have to be wary of and on top of that activating these tires yeah we heard from mark
11:26he
11:26didn't take his time yesterday morning to figure out the track conditions as things have changed
11:30over the last year but overnight they will change with these cooler temperatures things feel different
11:35how the tires react how the the bike reacts in general over the bumps and the the grip available
11:40especially the early laps when you're getting the tires into working range you can get caught out on
11:45the direction change maybe not having the grip under you that you would anticipate so yeah maybe a
11:50tentative first flying lap here for the guys as they figure things out over this 30 minute session
11:54it's a very physical racetrack this steep climb at 120 foot from bottom to top 12 story building
12:03effectively um as they go all the way it's like a fate of a cliff that they're riding up there
12:07and
12:08then it drops down the other side and then the next part through the snake the s's they say it
12:13was
12:13based on the maggots beckett's chapel complex at silverstone but you know wrenching your 150 kilo of
12:19motorcycle with all those gyroscopic forces wanting you to go straight on god it's hard work and it's
12:24no surprise then sylvan the maverick vinales has said i'm done this weekend the screw started to
12:29work itself loose in his shoulder so he's going to go back that's worrying that he's going to go
12:34back he says it he hopes it's just removing a screw that's works itself loose jorge martin was
12:39talking about his left wrist from the start of last year escape boy giving him a bit of jip
12:43jack miller talking about a shoulder thing that's just been going on you this is where you find out
12:48if you've got injuries and that's why for mark marquez as we head out it's just something we have to
12:53think about because that was 120 mile an hour crash yesterday yeah yeah and this this is definitely
12:59the most physical track on the on the calendar i was surprised yesterday doing the on-board lap
13:03you know just just doing i only did like four laps in total but it is so tiring you know
13:09that first
13:09sector changing from right to left to right to left there's no pitching um on the on the bike you're
13:15not touching the brakes or hardly touching it so it's all physical you have to handle the bike
13:20with your shoulders with your arms or with your legs pushing on the knees get the bike in and
13:25especially those gp bikes you know with all the aero on them it's such hard work so any rider that's
13:31got
13:31a little bit of an injury um or or a little bit of pain it's going to wake it up
13:36and over race distance
13:38it's going to be really tough 16 17 18 round there sylvan uh three corners yeah because we were
13:45discussing yesterday yesterday i was saying why would you because of on paper on the map it looks
13:50like one corner doesn't it but actually when you ride the track it does feel like three corners there's
13:54three sort of different apexes it's a really long rot and loads of lean there loads of spin it's beautiful
14:01beautiful uh series of corners i've got to say i was really pleasantly surprised i thought the track
14:08was unique and uh and really amazing i loved it yeah real challenge isn't it um some like it some
14:15can't stand it maverick vinales as we say not racing absolutely loves this place in fact he he holds uh
14:22the
14:22existing all-time lap record here at two minutes point eight six four so be interesting to see how close
14:27they get to that because mark mark is last night they're two minutes point nine he's just outside
14:32but they're going to be very different conditions you saw a lot of crashes yesterday michael uh the
14:37front tire the medium tire feeling like it needed a little bit of activating a lot of people have gone
14:40out with the soft actually uh in this morning session but it offers then a different challenge
14:46doesn't it for you yeah definitely the soft in these cooler temperatures would be the safer option
14:50but the zeki the the man in form he's out there with the medium front and teammate jorge martin
14:56i do think it's it's going to be a different one the amount of crashes we saw yesterday it was
15:01catching a lot of riders out in the early laps of the session we've seen crash from pedro costa then
15:06immediately followed up by i agree around the the long triple right as you just talked about that was
15:11rear almost unloading the front and and losing that grip at angle as you're trying to drive off the
15:16turn it it is a unique circuit here it it throws a few different things in these riders uh way
15:22in
15:23the terms of how to set the bike up and get the most out of the tires uh certainly now
15:27when we go
15:27out and qualifying it's going to be a soft tire and certainly now with these temperatures still
15:31then the soft tire is going to be the option for the sprint race there's no doubt about it but
15:35then
15:35when we get to sunday it's going to be interesting because i'm finding fascinating that the aprilis are
15:39trying the medium tire now because they didn't touch it at all yesterday and there's going to be
15:45this can we make this off last depending on what the temperature is on sunday the catty will be
15:50looking at the soft tire thinking they'll have the sprint to ascertain whether that might work
15:54in full sprint race distance but it should be it should make sunday's race interesting in terms of
16:00you know everyone seems to have a package that's working the times aren't too dissimilar
16:04no it's tight and it looks like the you know the feel and the the grip available from the soft
16:09to
16:09the medium rear is is very similar so it's going to be a tough choice um for for these guys
16:14and we
16:15know the aprilia usually works well with the with the medium rear tires it sort of balances their
16:20package balances the the level of grip the front and rear level of grip oh i agree and it's in
16:27the final
16:27corner first gear five first gear corners here yeah this i mean for the riders it's a huge challenge
16:33compared to yesterday to adapt to these different track um conditions the the track temperature when
16:38you've got well probably a 20 25 degree track temperature difference compared to yesterday and
16:43that cold wind that's um blowing today that cold breeze it makes a huge difference on how the grip
16:50feeling the the feedback that you get you know from the from the front tire and uh how to activate
16:55the
16:56tire but also then even when the tires are at working temperature and work temperature range oh
17:01there you go yeah yeah maximum lean there just lost it on the apex it's uh easy done and the
17:06feel is
17:06completely different so that's why you see the riders you know taking their time building the
17:11speed they started in 203 they're going into the 202s now and they're going to build up their speed
17:16step by step our guru was excellent yesterday sector one wow unbelievable you know we were if you
17:23didn't join us for yesterday afternoon's practice there was a moment when they were putting their
17:26fast laps he was half a second quicker than mark mark is in sector one and we're thinking that can't
17:31be all right it's going to be chalked off this lap it was the lap that took him to second
17:35overall
17:36behind mark mark is it only if he can solve his qualifying iogura is a threat and i just we
17:40none of
17:41us believed it could be true yeah did we at all but you um chas davis was out there doing
17:46a bit of uh
17:46spotting he's got you know doing the ghosting technology and all that and he's got his own
17:51little app that he's uh creating incredible app that he's created and with all the sector times
17:56and working it all out and it was a real it was half a second quicker than mark mark is
18:00in the first
18:01sector alone mark was leading the session so the the first indicator was versus mark's lap and iagura
18:06was a full half a second up on marking sector one uh it was only two and a half tenths
18:11on besecki but
18:12still two and a half tenths over the other passes aprilia man just goes to show iagura's prowess in this
18:17part get the stop for turn one pivot and around the hairpin and then the direction changes all
18:22the way up to turn seven yeah the aprilia we just saw from that shot that neil was showing before
18:28just
18:29how much ground made up on market and then mark himself in the tighter corners and the exit from
18:35the corners that's where he's making the difference and there was a comment luca marini made yesterday
18:38and he said now we've got the standard casing here this weekend the entry phase to the corner
18:43is better and that's for the honda and it'll be the same for the ducati the feeling that standard
18:49casing gives you we talked about why the aprilia's has been you know so strong and how it's worked but
18:56it's brought the other bikes back this weekend it feels certain silver yeah and it's that's a funny
19:01one and it's it's good that you talk about it yeah because people assume that when we talk about grip
19:05it's the rear grip it's the the traction grip on on corner exit that we're talking about which which we
19:11are
19:11but there's a there's also a really important factor in the braking zone so when they're braking
19:16just like now the rear contact and the rear grip that is on offer is really important on how you
19:22can
19:22stop the bike the more rear contact and grip you got the more you can use the rear brake the
19:27more
19:27engine brake you can use and the more um negative torque the grip is going to take so it's going
19:32to
19:33help you to stop it's going to make the bike more efficient in the braking zones and if that's one
19:37of
19:37your weaknesses or one of your strength you can make the most of it and that's what mark marquez
19:41is doing as we've seen about this morning um neil was describing on the ghost video and showing the
19:47differences he was so interesting to see that the zeki's got the upper hand on the aprilia on the
19:52flowing uh change of directions and corner speed stuff but mark and the ducatis are so strong in the
19:58braking zones on the stop and go stuff and also then that turns around then because mark will spin it
20:03around uh basically get the bikes stood up and then the exit he's killing people on the exit then
20:09as well that's really highlights his strength his ability to stop that last moment pivot turn and then
20:15punch you can see it at turn 11 you can see it at turn one he just really hangs on
20:20to the rear brake
20:20that little bit longer stops tighter gets it around and the handbrake turn as hodgy always calls it with
20:26mark that ability to to gain those meters around here and it is it's grip from the standard carcass
20:32tire allowing him to apply that pressure and load into the rear tire to really use it feel it
20:37takes it to maximum angle to really pivot and turn the bike and then just initially immediately punch
20:42off the corner and that's where ducati still has a little bit on the aprilia in terms of its first
20:46acceleration so as we head towards qualifying and into the sprint is the aprilia advantage that we saw in
20:55those first two races has it been negated then this weekend will the ducatis be more in the mix do
21:01you feel
21:02the ducatis are much closer in brazil already than they were in thailand thailand was the the one
21:07where really biseki in particular the aprilia all the aprilia but biseki in particular really excelled
21:13and it was tighter in brazil and obviously the ducati has been super strong in the sprint for example
21:19they were very quick there and here it looks like we've got a real fight on our hands it looks
21:24like
21:24we've got different stramps as well which normally creates good racing because you get certain riders with
21:29certain with with manufacture they're going to be faster and you know on the on the flowing stuff
21:35you got the ducati and mark are really really strong in the braking zone so they can make the
21:39moves and yeah it will create i think really good racing so it's so exciting and it's so hard to
21:46predict as well with those different conditions today it's going to be about who can adapt the best
21:50who can make the most out of the tires and who can set up their bike for these tricky conditions
21:56yeah
21:57mark abaseki it is he's chopping the time sheets at the moment i will remind you he's on the medium
22:01tire in this session turn 10 there in that slow-mo wow that's where mark crashed yesterday at that
22:08massive crash by 190k an hour fourth gear and he was lucky to escape that without massive injuries
22:17just went on to the green there just a little bit in turn 19. yeah that's not 11 at the
22:23top of the
22:23screen but it was turn 19 trust us yeah when we said that that's where we hit the track limits
22:27just
22:28on the outside of the racetrack a couple in moto three and in callback buchanan had a crash down
22:32there a couple in moto two as well that we saw just moments ago philip salat had a very strange
22:37one but
22:37a couple of people there going up and high onto those curbs you have to be really careful don't you
22:42because it's so easy to lose it the curb is sleepy like they're sleepy turn 19 and 20 really really
22:48sleepy when you go on it you've got to make sure that the bike is bright sounds like experience yeah
22:52yesterday
22:52and then he got caught out first lap out that would have been a good one i'm sure neil would
22:59have loved that one mark marquez he wouldn't chadenfreude and all that he wouldn't at all
23:04um mark marquez it just feels like this morning he's building taking his time going into it i i i'm
23:11not going to rush to you know how he slept overnight and whether the pain that he's in but it
23:15feels like
23:16he's just easing his way in respecting the track a bit more than he said he almost said himself
23:20saw the interview that he gave you know saying himself he got ahead of himself a little bit
23:24yesterday yeah just taking a cautious approach this morning and when you kind of crash your body's a
23:29bit beat up he already has a shoulder injury that he's favoring never so slightly now he's got
23:34hands that are are feeling it it's actually whenever it's colder in the morning all your aches and
23:39pains feel even even more so i'm sure there's a lot of people at home going i know so yeah
23:46steady start
23:46no no risk over these 30 minutes i think he knows he's got a good race setting because tomorrow is
23:52going to be a lot hotter whereas this afternoon in the sprint it's not looking set to be up in
23:56this
23:5630 degree ambient temperature so wrist and soft making it work will be important but
24:01the focus is all on these 15 minute qualifying sessions coming up just after this free practice
24:12i'm not sure what um what the microphone is doing on there sounds like he's riding a diesel
24:18around outside on one of the harleys down there but there you can just see the bumps the the work
24:23the suspension is having to do around here trying yeah the suspension is trying to cope but the bike
24:29is still jumping and hopping it's a it's a great corner that 10 10 you know all on the throttle
24:35it's
24:35going massively down here so it's it's like a compression and you're on the throttle sliding the
24:39rear as well beautiful mark said i love that corner it's one of my favorite places i feel i can
24:44make a difference through there but the bumps moved as well compared to last year and that's
24:48why you got caught out yeah i mean we know here the ground is he's moving all the time and
24:54that's
24:54what we always used to hear about i've heard kevin schwantz talk about it colin edwards as well
24:58the track is built on what they call gumbo and they're all familiar with it here when you're
25:03building houses around this part building cold nose as they call them and that the track the
25:09sorry the substrata moves and that and you've just that's part and parcel of uh of the land around
25:16here and a bastinini looking much better this weekend looking much happier alex market another
25:20one names that have found it tough in the first couple of rounds alex actually i was um with him
25:27in the media room yesterday and he was talking about how the ducati feels much better here but
25:33this bike compared to the one he was riding last year was on the 24 that was so doing so
25:37well for him
25:38last year he said he's got some things that do better and the line was but it's got some things
25:43that i don't want to say to do worse his words i don't want to say they are worse but
25:48they are
25:48different what's the way he described them that means worse though yeah good translation thank you
25:57yeah interesting isn't it that we always talk about it sometimes evolution isn't the the way forward when
26:04they had such a good bike in the gp24 but the the the lock in terms of the edge development
26:09the the fact
26:10that they've locked into it they have to make it it work in some way this is the last year
26:13of this
26:141000 cc jacani engine and it has thrown a few issues for peco by now last year again this year
26:21he and mark just seem a little a little off what maybe alex was able to deliver consistently last year
26:27the gp24 this man though digi seems to be the one dealing with it best consistent that's one thing he
26:33said last year i was inconsistent but it was the bike that made me feel inconsistent he said the good
26:38thing about this bike for me is i feel it's it's consistent so it's obviously doing some things
26:43better and the things it's doing worse he's able to almost ignore them a little bit so i think digi's
26:49going to be a threat this weekend oh definitely he loves it randy was on the podium last year and
26:53he's at such such a strong start of season so yeah he's uh he's confident he's just a bit marques
27:00in brazil on the head to head i mean there's not many people that can i can say that so
27:05he's obviously
27:06on on great form and uh yeah much happier than last year with the 2025 ducati package they um
27:13they just had the him and and peco bagnaia just really couldn't be consistent they were going from
27:18some time on the racetrack where things were going well and then most of the time they were really
27:22struggling with the front end field so it looks like he's much happier this year with his 2026
27:27package and yeah looking very good digi we hope that his uh shoulder so he tweaked a bit shoulder
27:32didn't he in brazil in his warm-up crash and hopefully that's not going to come into play yeah larry
27:38painstein they've got for sunday as well keep an eye out for that one they unveiled it in new york
27:42this
27:42week and aldo drudi design there is uh oh here we go this is a warm-up lap over in
27:52uh portimao for
27:53the world suit bike race one a reminder of course that uh hbo max is the new home of moto
28:01gp uh and uh
28:02world suit bikes or tnt sports as a streaming home uh for us all and you can now double screen
28:08it if you go
28:09to the hbo max app uh you can be watching that on your ipad uh on your tablet or whatever
28:16or your
28:16phone while we are here about to have our qualifying session so just a reminder if you download the hbo
28:22max app use your same login details that you had on discovery plus and you are able to watch the
28:29world
28:29suit bike first race the cat is looking good although miguel olivera did well in superpole earlier so he's on
28:35the second row of the grid over there that's about to get going over in portugal right now and it's
28:41also on tnt sports 3 right here on two uh we have got the rest of this free practice session
28:47and then
28:47we are going qualifying at the circuit of the americas you can see high clouds no threat of rain
28:52although it feels if i was in the uk i'd think rains around the corner but it's we're told no
28:57no chance of
28:57rain it's cool it's breezy much different conditions than what we had here yesterday it's apparently going to
29:04switch back tomorrow and we'll be warm again tomorrow as you look at this straight here from
29:09turn 11 to turn 12 the longest straight on the moto gp calendar three quarters of a mile 1.2
29:15kilometers
29:16from start to finish but it's not straight at all is it no you can't see anything yesterday literally
29:22the first lap and i rolled off the throttle in the straight because you know where i was going because
29:28it it goes it goes it's funny how when you watch on tv like that it makes everything look flat
29:33well
29:33flat ish compared to what it actually is and you get into that straight you have to go to the
29:38left
29:38side of the of the uh the straight and then it goes up so you you can't see where you're
29:43going and i
29:43mean you're it's fast there it's 220 with a moto gp bike so and you go over there and then
29:48it goes down
29:48a bit and then up again as you break beautiful beautiful place but uh it takes a little bit of
29:54getting
29:54used to yeah a little bit of bravery isn't it it's uh rollers as well that you get in the
29:59middle like
29:59waves on that straight now it is a real challenge for moto gp aldergear up to 11th impressive again
30:08yesterday all of it building back in to his fitness after he broke his leg a couple of months ago
30:17brilliant weekend in brazil and his comeback and and even to be doing what he's doing in a session like
30:23this michael seriously seriously impressive he's still walking around with a crutch yeah yeah he
30:28looks uh i want i don't want to use the word fragile but he just looks that way when you
30:33see him walk
30:34around the the the paddock but then you're on the bike you have to let that go to the back
30:38of your mind
30:39so impressive the fact that he's had no pre-season test and so long off the motor gp bike he
30:44just arrived
30:45in brazil new track for everyone though but he was right on the money and again yesterday impressed once
30:50again and he's he's right on the pace here this morning just outside the top 10 it's a a real
30:55well
30:56we already know that he's been corded by the vr 46 team for a contract next year to carry have
31:01him
31:02in a long-term contract he is a bright prospect for their future oh we've just heard in our headsets
31:08someone slip out as we saw the piaggio ceo of vichael colonino down in um aprilio have launched a new
31:14bike this weekend oh and it's alex marcus he's gone down at turn two and that's a fast one look
31:18how far the
31:19bikes got right to the barrier there that's where peco bagna you might remember crashed out of the
31:23lead a couple of years ago it's going to lose the front early there there's something to change the
31:27direction watch you go yeah oh he punched the very early higher didn't he was just showing his
31:32outlast distaste at the first lap something like that that feels like a cold tire to me
31:37yeah right well maybe the bike was too perfect it's happened before that's where peco bagna you will
31:44remember crashed out of the lead of the race oh and now mark is a key has also crashed loves
31:49the saturday crash didn't he bears he's had one every year every race so far this year
31:53yeah there is the piaggio group c of course probably a part of that huge group and they've launched the
32:01new x version of their bike 250th anniversary one fast one out there yeah again on the right side turn
32:11six
32:11cool front for sure
32:15and with the colder temperatures and that breeze that breeze when we win the paddock early only it
32:20actually feels really cold it was a medium front yeah there for bears was it the star of his second
32:26run
32:27well yeah
32:32yeah he had just gone out that was it they've gone out yeah just alex marcus had just gone out
32:36they
32:36went out the same time together they literally left pit lane at the same time so he's seen alex go
32:41down
32:42and then further around he's done it right outside of the tire shows you how difficult it is they'll go
32:47out they'll think well i'm on i'm on used tires now so i don't really have to activate that tire
32:52properly it's not like it's a brand new shiny sleek and you get a little bit confident and bites you
33:00on the right side of the tire both times luca marini just running through a little shortcut there
33:08mostly anti-clock track here anti-clockwise yeah so they have a um no they're not they're not ac matrix
33:16to the front i think i need to double check that thanks for that yeah
33:25yeah you also have punishing right hand parts of the track don't you through 16 17 18 in fact
33:30some of the fast corners are the right handers so i'm pretty sure they're not asymmetric i think
33:35you're right yeah i haven't checked it either but the right hand side of the front will always
33:40get a batter around here especially that triple right under 16 17 18 we've seen it in years gone
33:45by where it does actually really mark up looks really gloomy out there doesn't it really dark
33:52mark marcus is built into this lap his previous lap here properly respecting
33:56uh was four and a half seconds off this now where he is now just building into it this is
34:02the sector
34:02he was destroying him if he was losing half a second to a guru in sector one
34:06he was picking up half a second pretty much on a guru through here
34:10oh look at him the way he just gets that bike hooked around picked up what's he going to be
34:15in
34:16the third split again he finds more time compared to marco bizecchi i'll remind you through that third sector
34:23good cna bastianini in the mix again talking about the tire just feeling much more like it
34:28ktm's bemoaning their pace though down the long straight here and you feel like obviously something's
34:35happened haven't they with the aero aero that's what they've done costing them on drag that is what
34:39they've done so they essentially made the bike um more heavy aero wise so they're losing in top speed
34:46but uh they're gaining with the turning it's helping them turning the bike and obviously that paid off
34:50not in brazil but it did in thailand for pedro acosta someone else has run wide here
34:55mark marquez has just gone top of the time sheets right so i do have the for the the front
35:00tires are
35:01symmetric so that means that it's the same rubber same compound on the left side and the right side
35:06so obviously here that the left side gets more of a workout because it's a left-hand turn so that's
35:11why well could explain why they're getting caught on the right side of the tire a little bit less
35:16temperature built into it yeah especially when you go through turn two uh you've had 19 20 the run up
35:25to
35:25turn one and then you've got turn two is where you know yeah and there's no load there's no load
35:31there
35:31so you you sort of short shift second and third and uh you don't you don't you don't break so
35:37the
35:37tracks dropping away from you downhill yeah so it's easy done okay martin following peko banaya across
35:44line i have to say banaya looks a lot more on it as martin goes to the top of the
35:47timesheets here
35:48all preparation this for qualifying coming up um martin and banaya both threw into q2 directly
35:55but it's it's good to see banaya there but it took him a bit of time to put a fast
36:00lap in yesterday
36:01didn't it yeah he had to work through the motions but he's looked so much better this weekend
36:05previous winner here does enjoy this track and it's looking like the return to the standard this is
36:11another look at bezeki's crash as he goes into that right-hander at turn six but yeah for banaya
36:18this weekend the return to the normal construction tire certainly bringing back the feeling he likes
36:24he's getting stopped he had obviously provided the marker there for martin to usurp him on the time
36:29sheets but yeah those two jacatis and martin and bezeki two factory jacatis and two factory aprilia is
36:34looking really solid and then we talked about digi's strength he's right there in fifth as well
36:46so here is banaya going again
36:50fastest through the first sector faster through the first sector
36:56doge moreira also having a little moment is it going to be in turn two same one same as alex
37:05marquez
37:06welcome to moto gp diogo moreira it's what's so easy done though those those tires are oh another
37:14one i go right this time yeah and that's the same corner again same corner second crash in the same
37:18place it's like turning in aragon warning isn't it no load really easy to get caught and the wind
37:25get underneath you that cold wind three crashes in the weekend then for ayagura had a fast one at
37:32turn 18 yesterday got away with uh he was just out of the yellow flag zone where pedro acosta had
37:38crashed
37:38in front of him
37:42carbon copy third gear it's not a slow crash is it yeah that's fast and it's going down here so
37:47you
37:47you gain momentum really quickly there oh his uh suit is really open in the front the airbag vest
37:55coming out it's coming out is it cushy tarny then yeah yeah so poseki going back out there just
38:02to get a little bit more feel there's the yellow flag being waved down in that section
38:08just make the nervous going into time attack mode in q1 and two that you've got to activate the tire
38:14on your right lap but then you really want to be able to push and commit with the fresh set
38:17of uh
38:18tires in that first lap two turn two is going to be so uh you know you're going to be
38:23careful
38:23uh mark of zeki crashed more than anyone so far this year five crushes already to his name
38:29three of course on that saturday in thailand you know he's also one more than anyone there
38:34so that's the interesting bit he's doing about marquez isn't he's going more than anyone
38:40he's actually looking to become only the second person since mark marcus to win the opening three grand
38:45priest of a season and we've last season that's four in a row yeah that's uh that's a lot isn't
38:50it
38:50not many riders managed that five riders oh that's good in uh in the motor gp modern era it's a
38:58very
38:58small club in the modern era yeah it's upset a few this weekend not including victor and nick doing
39:08agostini yeah did you see our easy mark went to turn two there he sort of went in as in
39:15like
39:15if it was an in lap you're just looking at the tire mark thinking i don't fancy any of that
39:20but
39:20that's all that's now he's learned his experience isn't it he's got special helmet design here this
39:25weekend same one he's run actually to the last couple of visits here it's funny because he's only
39:32two times off and he really looks like he's uh well not there but in the first part of the
39:36track it
39:37looked like he was just nice oh look it shows you the bumps again there in that turn 10. it
39:44is
39:45so dramatic isn't it down through that corner when you've got the high motion cameras we do
39:49in that corner you really feel the stresses the rigors of this racetrack on the motorcycle
39:57it does seem like mark was able to power through it last year and it didn't upset upset the bike
40:02as
40:02much as what we're seeing this season the the angle of the bumps or the way that you can is
40:07absorbing them it just seems like it's on edge to to get the movement to get that motion and
40:11instability that we've seen on quite a number of occasions already so heading into qualifying first
40:16of all is he still your favorite position i'm not sure right but what we've seen from the analysis he
40:23can make that difference where he really takes a few uh risks in those first gear corners so yeah
40:28possibly it's going to be i think uh a bit of a fight between him and bez and what about
40:32the actual
40:33race in the sprints and in the the main race at this stage of the weekend now from what you've
40:37seen
40:38yeah i think there's six riders that could win the sprint this afternoon i love to say it the two
40:42factory ducati's two factory aprilia's digi is the fifth and probably the sixth one's pedro acosta so
40:47yeah i think i agree yeah although three crashes two this morning that might derail him a little bit but
40:54yeah
40:54it was exceptional yesterday afternoon i think i for the main race tomorrow in hotter temperatures
40:59probably will be a threat maybe not so for the sprint he's languishing down in 16th for those couple
41:03of crashes this morning got for annoying me my step so i'm out in the paddock earlier and uh he's
41:10getting in the vibe getting in the texas spirit isn't he down in the ktm garage and we're hoping to
41:15hear so a bit more information aren't we this weekend meetings going on the liberty big bosses are here
41:20about the extension of agreements you know of teams and the deal going forwards the talk it might
41:28you know might come over this weekend or at least when we go in the interim between now and uh
41:33heref
41:33it's important isn't it because we know that contracts have been signed but they're not being
41:37announced yeah yeah there's a lot in the works going on behind the scenes and big players like
41:42coladinho been here from the viaggio group and gotfred no masker he's the ceo of ktm and a shrewd
41:49operator by all accounts from what i understand and yeah those conversations will be in the works
41:54so mark marquez second behind or hey martin who tops this free practice session this morning this
41:59was the moment through that bump at turn 10 on the high motion camera just look at the forces that
42:05he's
42:06having to wrestle in if you're feeling a little bit off it that's gonna be a tough one to deal
42:11with
42:11right let's find out here and the rest get on in qualifying when we come back from this
42:26francis knows trains would you be up for helping me with a locomotive his friend chris doesn't i
42:33haven't got a clue how to restore a train and six months restoring a locomotive that's impressive

44:24cue it
44:38hello welcome back to the paddock here at kota that was a bit of a dramatic free practice session
44:43wasn't it yeah but different conditions and many riders getting caught out so many crashes yeah including
44:49bez should we have a look at that one to start with yeah so bez well he did a strong
44:54first run and
44:55managed to activate his tires quick like he had medium front medium rear and then when he restarted
45:01his second run as his first lap sort of uh launched out of out of the box and uh yeah
45:07flicked it right
45:08there's very little load on the front there very little pitching because these flip flops and we don't
45:13use the the brake so much and yeah it's going to lose it on the change of direction on the
45:17on the right
45:17side of the tire it's anti-clock track here so when you turn right you've got to make sure that
45:21the
45:21temperature is into those tires and this morning is that cold breeze the track temperature is much
45:26cooler than yesterday so the riders are getting caught out yeah and uh iagora got caught out not
45:32once but twice unfortunately second quickest yesterday has been having a spectacular weekend let's just go
45:38through uh through these incidents then couple of crashes for our guru and um yeah this is completely
45:45down to the the condition so the first one was on the left last turn turn 20 lost the front
45:50there
45:50very close to the apex as it comes in look when the maximum leaning comes in oh it goes from
45:55underneath
45:56him that's uh that's that's typical cold track you know tire not quite activated on the on the maximum
46:03lean and then we've got another crash there with this one is much much bigger turn two and there's a
46:08there's a lot of spare parts in that gravel yeah at turn two this morning and augura there
46:13as he flicks into turn two in the at the end of the downhill gets caught out and loses it
46:18before
46:18even understanding that it's happening it's uh that's how it happens like when those cold tire
46:23crash it's like you're down before you even know you it's happening yeah yeah smack down isn't it
46:28really turn 20 and turn two then for iagora he had been having a brilliant weekend up until that
46:33point a decent session for his teammate ralph fernandez who's got to go in this q1 session so
46:38let's find out what's happening in the garage nat is down at track house great to see iagora up there
46:45yesterday in the timesheets and quicker around here in sections than mark marquez he must have been
46:51buzzing after yesterday couple of crashes today but we do have cooler breezier conditions today don't we
46:57yeah this morning is much cooler than uh than yesterday and uh of course something is changing
47:03on uh on the way also to ride the bike the tires performance so we need to understand also going
47:10to time attack now even front tire whether it's soft or medium is uh is a is a something to
47:18think
47:18about so i yeah he had uh two crashes i mean the first one very small the second one little
47:25bit more
47:25higher speed he went back to change to change the ladder now we will come back we will speak to
47:32him
47:33and see what we can do for the for the q2 how to fail but something is changing i mean
47:40conditions are
47:41different than yesterday we have to we have to manage raul having to go through q1 what was he working
47:47on in in that session yeah yesterday yeah we we found also in the data some some some way different
47:55way that he should ride the bike and it looks like this morning it is applying that and let's see
48:01i think
48:02there is he has a pace especially with a medium tire uh looking at the race but of course as
48:08you
48:09know important is to qualify i think there is a possibility to to move to the q2 for raul let's
48:14try
48:14good luck today thank you david abrivio there while talking about raul and he did look good in that
48:21session didn't he raul and these conditions being so different to yesterday that was a vital session
48:27this morning but perhaps this session having to go through q1 whoever gets through could prove vital
48:33for them as well it could because the the conditions are so different from yesterday all the experience
48:38the data gathering from yesterday it's not like it doesn't matter but it makes it a lot less relevant
48:43so this kind of session now is where he's going to push to the limit get some proper feedback hopefully
48:49move through q2 and then you've got an advantage suddenly because you've experienced the condition
48:53and pushed to the max already and he'll be able to give some information as well to the team to
48:57our
48:57great teammates yeah but you know how the tires are working depending on which choice they're going
49:01to make for this first session so yeah that's that's really interesting because we've got such
49:06different conditions from yesterday going to be up against it though with the likes of uh fermin aldeguer
49:12joan mir diogo marrera but he's just crashed in that last session as well so it's going to be uh
49:18all guns blazing in that uh garage at the moment isn't it yeah it's going to be about who's going
49:23to
49:23adapt the best and get the feel from the from the tires and there's different conditions you've got
49:28fabio quartaro as well you can never count him out on a time attack you know with what he did
49:32last week in brazil was really impressive so so yeah a big big fight again for a supremely important
49:39session that's going to determine the the race for for these guys you know great position is so important
49:44it is they're getting ready to go out in these cooler conditions uh oh i never asked you for a
49:49prediction which two do you think so long i think it's going to be raul fernandez and fermin aldeguer
49:53okay there we go uh let's go over to the boys it's a tough one to call isn't it and
49:59the first thing
50:00that both sirven and susie mentioned there chaps was just respect your tires you've got to make sure
50:06you bring them up in these cooler conditions this morning there's been warnings out there whether it be
50:11alex marquez marco bezeki ayogura just build into this session or you could cost yourself because
50:18the other thing to remember chaps two and a half minutes and out lap two and a half minutes and
50:23in
50:23lap you know you lose five minutes ten minutes there in a session and just your outlaps you don't get
50:28many chances the outlaps up pretty quick if you straight line all those you are obviously allowed
50:36to do that on your out lap unfortunately not the one on your on your main qualifying lap although it
50:41felt like ayogura did that yesterday didn't it when he was so quick in sector one alex rinse uh yesterday
50:47found it tough he was right at the back of the field he said i am proud of myself uh
50:53how i'm managing
50:54this that how i'm managing the motivation i'm managing the performance because it isn't there
50:59so yeah obviously it's tough times for the yamaha boys because you know obviously you're going to
51:05ride to your absolute limit and potentially be out of the point but
