00:00Deutrama Conquers the Universe Trade Paperback, Hostile Makeover
00:05Leila takes a while telling Amy that she's all alone for various reasons.
00:11It doesn't matter how dumb Fry is, nobody would eat Bender's cooking anymore.
00:16Amy calls what she said boring, which makes sense because she's just describing what Fry and Bender deal with all the time.
00:23She drags Leila to the mall and calls her a homebody who needs a makeover from her.
00:28She gets told she's okay with how she is, and gets told that if she looks nicer, she won't think that.
00:35She just said she's okay with how she is.
00:38How is that her being sad?
00:41I guess she means Leila doesn't have the ego to think she deserves better clothes.
00:46She gives Leila the same hairstyle clothes as her,
00:50which are miraculously still being sold even though Amy's been wearing the same thing for 20 years.
00:58And a rich girl like her would take her to a store selling new clothes.
01:02If you want to make this joke, you have to have her give her the clothes from her closet.
01:08Shockingly, Leila gets stared at by a lot of appreciative men and wishes she did this years ago.
01:13The only reason she thinks they aren't staring at Amy instead is that this never happened before when she was with Amy.
01:21Or almost never did.
01:23It's ironic that a sweatsuit that hides more of her skin than the clothes she usually wears would attract positive attention compared to Leila's type of shirt.
01:32Aside from revealing the belly button, Amy's clothing is conservative.
01:36I guess it's because it's pink, which goes well with purple.
01:40So that does work better for Leila.
01:43As soon as Amy gets jealous, the rest of the story is predictable.
01:47Why didn't she realize she'd get jealous and not bother?
01:50Apparently she only helped her thinking that it wouldn't have had a noticeable improvement on her life to make herself feel better.
01:56And only wanted to make her better to look for herself.
01:59She makes sure to give Leila a humiliating outfit and a marge wig.
02:05She definitely wouldn't wear that.
02:08I can give her a pass on the dress because fashion standards change all the time.
02:12And now we look back on bright garish fashion from the 60s as bad when it used to be popular.
02:18And Amy's a rich girl, so Leila would assume that she knows what's up to date in the fashion.
02:24But she's known her for a long time.
02:26Shouldn't she have expected her to get jealous?
02:30Shouldn't she have known not to say this and provoke her?
02:34Well, even if she didn't say anything, she would have noticed all of the positive attention anyways and gotten mad.
02:42Leila gets told she definitely shouldn't care what guys think of her looks when she's with her.
02:47She gets suspicious, but I don't really feel like complimenting her on that when she's so late to figuring her out.
02:52Somehow, Amy, who grew up rich, thinks that a shop called Sluttery Barn sounds expensive.
02:59Leila makes sure she goes in and tries something on that makes her happy.
03:03She gets thanked and runs away with Amy's clothes.
03:06How did both the cops from the show manage to be here to grab Amy instead of the person she's accusing of theft for some reason?
03:15They're not mall security guards.
03:17They'd be somewhere else.
03:19If they did go to the mall, they wouldn't be on duty in uniforms.
03:23This is meant to be a satisfying ending because it's laser-guided karma because Amy got humiliated after doing that to Leila.
03:30But this part of it didn't happen to Leila.
03:33Amy doesn't have any cash or credit card on her to buy the outfit, and Leila's looking away from her like she's going to ignore her request for them.
03:41But at least they're still right in front of her, so she could do it and remain in character.
03:45I would be more than just annoyed at how forced and nasty this is, but this is Amy, and she did do something to deserve it.
03:52And it's the victim of her sabotage that put her through this.
03:55It ends there, so for all I know, this isn't going to end up being disproportionate retribution against Amy.
04:01And even then, she's been talking like this to Leila for the entire show.
04:06This slightly depressing story by Eric Rogers was about Amy trying to make Leila look better because that's how you'd expect her to act on the show.
04:14And she gets jealous of how well it worked, even though Leila still got the Cyclops thing that makes her an outcast, so that should have been explained.
04:23So Amy evilly sabotages her and gets overwhelmingly punished in return by the person somehow stupid enough to take her sabotaging advice.
04:33It was the most lazy, predictable idea a writer could have for a story about these two girls alone together.
04:39So it was disappointing because it wasn't the kind of thing you'd go to Futurama for.
04:43However, it's a story you could find in any sitcom with this dynamic.
04:48The only reason I won't call it sexist, too, is that it is in character for Amy, who's not exactly the only female person in the show.
04:55And I don't remember most of them being like that.
04:59But it was still relatively good.
05:01At least the plot made sense, and I never saw it in the series before, and most characters were in character, and as usual, the dialogue sounded like it belonged in the show.
05:10And even the pacing was good, and you can tell because I didn't complain about my time being wasted.
