00:00Sonic Prime, no escape.
00:03It starts out wasting my time showing some crappy recreation of Sonic Advance 3 where Sonic and Tails' sprites could have been better looking.
00:11And according to TV Tropes, the excuse for this was that Sega arbitrarily didn't allow them to use the same sprites from the game.
00:19It's like they're deliberately trying to sabotage this show.
00:22I can't believe the episode started this way.
00:25Because what does this have to do with anything?
00:27This is obvious incompetent pandering.
00:30I want to start the episode by having Sonic be reminded of Sonic Advance 3 for a very good reason, then flashing back.
00:38I don't see Gemma escape from the Eggmobile.
00:41He blew up instead.
00:43This proves Sonic Prime takes place in a different universe from the games.
00:47It doesn't matter what dumb shit anybody in charge says.
00:51The person in charge of a series could say,
00:54The character with blue hair actually has red hair, and it wouldn't change reality.
01:01He still doesn't have red hair.
01:02Why did Sonic just stand there and get rolled into by the Eggmobile?
01:07That would never happen.
01:09Even in the so-called tribute to the games, it's completely disrespectful of him.
01:15It's not like every single time Sonic does something that one of the members of the Chaos Council hates, he points and laughs.
01:22So why does he do this so often like it's a parody of Sonic and Lost World?
01:28How did the Eggmobile get destroyed in one hit?
01:31He's been fighting Sonic for years.
01:34It makes Eggman look completely incompetent at building things.
01:37The only explanation is Eggman was really drunk or high when making a part of this.
01:43So he picked a lame material for the Eggmobile.
01:46Or he had to resort to some lame material because he was out of the good stuff.
01:51I could be nice by assuming that the point of this was to make Sonic look really strong.
01:56To compensate for how dumb he was a second ago.
02:00He's supposed to be cool.
02:02Sonic still jumps multiple times in celebration.
02:05Even though General died.
02:08So in this universe, General didn't used to be someone he cared about.
02:12He was just some robot Eggman made, programming and all.
02:16If you're going to try to pander to game purists,
02:18don't even try without a perfect knowledge of what you're trying to plagiarize.
02:23At least this means this isn't so uncreative that there was no point in writing or seeing it.
02:29This kind of thing just makes it obvious that it's just a bad idea
02:32to try this hard to pander with game references
02:35that you do stuff like make 2D Sonic animations
02:38that are wildly out of left field in a 3D show.
02:41It's pointless because the game purists hate the show anyways
02:44for not being from Sonic Team.
02:47The normal people are just confused that they're even there,
02:51even if they liked them at first.
02:53And the people who make the show don't have a perfect knowledge or memory,
02:56so they piss the purists off when they get things wrong
02:59and make the normies roll their eyes.
03:02Nobody ends up being grateful because at least they got to see
03:05some things that were from the games and were totally accurate.
03:09Despite people knowing enough to make this animation,
03:12they didn't know everything to make it accurate
03:14and didn't think they had to research any further
03:16because it is more intuitive to assume General Blew Up 2
03:20if you don't know the story of the game.
03:22Anyways, after this, we see Sonic in the present staring at a grid.
03:27Nine shoots lasers out the prism and then the robot
03:29and tells a bunch of small robots to bring the pirates to him.
03:33Why would such small robots succeed in doing that?
03:37The music tries to make me take this seriously,
03:40but they'd have to have been uncharacteristically pathetic
03:43to have lost to these robots
03:44because they've fought robots successfully before.
03:48How are such small robots supposed to carry and fly with any of the pirates?
03:53The story wastes a bunch of my time.
03:56With the people in the council room doing predictable arguing,
04:00why am I supposed to believe anyone tracked mud on the floors?
04:03That never happened.
04:04They never stepped in any mud.
04:07I guess the old guy is such a bad-faith arguer
04:09that he'll unashamedly lie
04:11just to annoy the people around him.
04:15Sonic eventually stops their argument
04:17and wonders where most of the pirates are.
04:19And he says they're still in no place, which is shattering.
04:22Why would they call it no place?
04:26You'd think, if anything, Ghost Hill would be called no place.
04:30The council don't want Sonic to leave
04:33because Nine might get his hands on him.
04:36Why does he stop when Rebel Rouge stands in front of him?
04:39This happened too fast for him to stop.
04:42He eventually guilts them by saying he'd do the same for any of them.
04:47Why does he keep staying still?
04:50Eventually, the pirates reveal they were planning on going with Sonic to help him
04:55because he needs their ship.
04:56Rusty projects some red light from her eyes,
04:59which rips off Sad AM and says she's detected heat signatures.
05:04So at least it did something new.
05:06The ship needs some defending from an army of robots.
05:10And it flies over a mountain making Sonic fall
05:13and have to run over the ocean.
05:15The show still hasn't learned that Nine can't look intimidating.
05:20Nine says it's still too unstable.
05:23You don't need to keep repeating exposition.
05:25The more you keep explaining the same things,
05:27the less emotional punch they pack.
05:31I get to see Sonic get knocked down.
05:33Why does he just stay still when a robot's in front of him?
05:38So Rusty shoots it and does a friendly wave.
05:42Good thing there's such dramatic music,
05:44or this would be more than just a bit boring.
05:47Sonic eventually rides away on the giant bird with Thorn,
05:50and Rusty shoots the robot.
05:52It's really trying its damnedest with the music and visuals
05:56to make it look exciting instead of boring.
05:59But I'm still impatient for the plot to progress.
06:02The story pointlessly shows Nine state the obvious
06:05that he won't give up as he's shooting lasers.
06:10The ship starts falling because it got damaged.
06:14Sonic gets grabbed so he won't fall into the ocean,
06:16and they all end up in a portal.
06:21The story goes back to wasting my time,
06:24and Sonic says nice moves to the council members.
06:27Sonic says this was a win,
06:29and gets told that the fleet is damaged,
06:32and their troops are spent.
06:34Sonic offers to give himself up.
06:36He's shown loyalty from his friends,
06:38and gets stupidly told by the council
06:40that they'd love to betray him.
06:42And he says Nine isn't like the council members.
06:46Which is kind of frustrating after all of this,
06:48when he's continuing the destruction of the world.
06:53After a while, he tells Nine he'll give himself up
06:55if he agrees to spare his friends.
06:58He agrees, and then Sonic tells him
07:00to promise to rebuild their world
07:02back to how they were.
07:04And Nine's smart enough to agree.
07:05Then why did he just say this in the first place?
07:09Either this means he knew he was lying
07:11when he said he couldn't restore his world,
07:14or this means he changed his mind
07:17about being able to do that
07:19for no reason.
07:21The story wastes time being sad,
07:23with Nine just trying to guilt him.
07:25And he still calls Nine Bud,
07:27and at least he doesn't complain
07:28or call him a liar.
07:30It's cringy to see him act like this
07:33because of how much the writer wants us to hate him
07:35by making him talk like a typical villain.
07:38He'd be cynical based on his past for sure,
07:40but this is too cliche in the way he's depicted.
07:44Where he's more smug about how things are going
07:46the way he planned.
07:48Nine rants cynically and says
07:49that he always wants to save people,
07:51and he says it's because he's a hero,
07:53but he thinks that the truth
07:54is that after Sonic destroyed his home dimension,
07:57he's only saving people to feel less guilty
07:59about doing that.
08:00I guess this is what was meant
08:02by the gaslighting accusation he got.
08:05But again, it doesn't count as that
08:06if he thinks he's telling the truth,
08:08and it's obvious he'd be in character
08:10for him to think that
08:11if you're in good faith enough
08:12to remember his backstory.
08:15The way at least one of the fans
08:16who hated him the most went on
08:18about how he was manipulating to Sonic
08:20or something just isn't taking into account
08:22that Nine wouldn't be neurotypical
08:25by the time Sonic met him.
08:27He never would have made it past
08:28the trust-versus-mistrust phase of his life
08:30that everyone goes through.
08:32So even Sonic making a relatable
08:34verbal faux pas
08:35would have just made him go back
08:36to the old thinking pattern
08:38that nobody cares about him
08:40and made him think he was right
08:41to not trust him at all at first,
08:43which would pander to his fragile ego.
08:46Of course he's still in the wrong,
08:47but there are some real evil Sonic films out there,
08:50because they act evil
08:51without clouded judgment.
08:54Why doesn't he sound a lot more mad
08:56that Sonic thinks there's a chance
08:57they both might not make it out of this?
09:00He's not trusting him
09:02to be able to restore the multiverse
09:05to normal out of nowhere.
09:08He's even more insecure than Tails,
09:11so shouldn't he be even more mad at him
09:13for this than Tails was
09:15about this and Lost World?
09:18Nine generously says
09:19to let the other counterparts live like they want
09:22if they leave him alone.
09:24So that's obviously good writing
09:25that he's being in character
09:26as how he was being from Season 1.
09:29Sonic says he'd have done the same thing for him.
09:32Nine accuses him of lying paranoidly.
09:36Sonic tells him that he's still his friend,
09:39and Nine looks sad,
09:40which would have to mean
09:41he feels like he doesn't deserve this
09:43after what he put him through,
09:44and actually believes him
09:46and is impressed by what a good person he is.
09:48Which was impressive of the writing
09:50by having nuance
09:51and reminding us
09:52what he was originally like
09:53and motivated by.
09:55That he's more than just a villain.
09:57But it's also a bit confusing
09:58that the same story
09:59that depicted him as pure evil
10:01still knew to have this one moment
10:04like he's two different people.
10:06Because it's weird
10:07that he didn't react like this
10:08when he called him Bud.
10:10He only started to believe it
10:11because he cared enough
10:12to bother calling him his friend
10:14after calling him Bud
10:15that didn't get him to be nice to him.
10:17So he thinks he proved
10:19he wasn't just talking like this
10:20to suck up to him.
10:22Because he kept trying.
10:26Sonic's shoes glow,
10:27and he obviously acts surprised
10:29in a way that's clearly sincere
10:31before the council aircrafts
10:33and Sonic's stupid friends
10:34show up to attack.
10:36It's frustrating
10:37because it looks like
10:38this will convince Nine
10:39that he was never going to give himself up,
10:41despite how sincere he was obviously being.
10:44Nine could have easily
10:45not seen the army coming
10:47if they did this
10:48inside of his building.
10:51Which could have very easily
10:52been the case
10:53because he would have been
10:54right there
10:55next to the thing
10:56he could have used
10:57to restore his universe.
10:58To be fair,
10:59an ending without a big fight
11:01would be anticlimactic.
11:03And after everything bad
11:04Nine went through
11:05before this,
11:06I guess it's believable
11:07that he'd be paranoid enough
11:09to think Sonic was faking surprise.
11:12Sonic was already warned
11:13that his friends
11:14wanted to go here.
11:15So while he could have
11:16tried harder to discourage them,
11:18I doubt they would have listened.
11:20Maybe Nine wouldn't have
11:21taken this so hard
11:22as Sonic had the sense
11:23to warn him
11:24that they might come here
11:25against his wishes.
11:27But as usual,
11:28he's ridiculously stupid
11:29to the point where
11:30he doubt it's even possible to be.
11:32He had no reason
11:32to trust any of these people
11:34after all the times
11:34they turned on him undone.
11:37It'd be common sense
11:38of him to just tell the army
11:39to go here
11:40instead of deal with that
11:41for some reason.
11:42So it makes sense
11:42that Nine would think
11:43that was his plan
11:44because the alternative
11:45makes no sense.
11:47Because it means
11:48he went to him
11:49with the risk
11:49that he wouldn't
11:50follow through
11:51in his promise.
11:53Sonic could have
11:54given himself up
11:55at the start
11:55of the second
11:56Season 3 episode
11:57and saved us
11:58a bunch of time.
12:00This mildly boring episode
12:02by Marcus Reinhardt
12:03was about
12:04Sonic and the pirates
12:05having to deal
12:06with some boring robots
12:07that die in one hit
12:08in an uncreative way
12:09on the pirate ship
12:10for almost the whole story
12:11for nothing.
12:13At least the presentation
12:14was exciting enough
12:15to be engaging,
12:15but I still never stopped
12:16being aware
12:17that the story
12:17was wasting my time
12:19until Sonic
12:19gave himself
12:20up to Nine alone,
12:22even though the reason
12:23he went to that dimension
12:24was to get an army
12:24to fight him.
12:26And now he's given up
12:27on that
12:27after one battle
12:28that he was proud
12:29of his success in,
12:31when it would've made
12:31more sense
12:32and made him look clever
12:33if he did plan
12:35on having the army
12:36secretly follow him.
12:38Then it could keep going
12:39with the theme
12:40of the show
12:40where Sonic's not trusting
12:42in his friends enough
12:43because he didn't trust Nine.
12:46And so it's gonna backfire
12:47on him that he had
12:48the army secretly decide
12:49to follow him
12:50into the portal
12:51because it turned out
12:52Nine changed his mind
12:54about using his prison energy
12:55and risking killing him.
12:57The episode was worth it
12:59because it got to see
12:59Nine look guilty
13:00when Sonic told him
13:01he's still his friend.
13:04Only one great moment
13:05this whole episode
13:06and a scene
13:07that was hard
13:08to watch otherwise.
13:10I think more of it
13:11was easy to put up
13:12with than any other episode.
13:14But it still had almost
13:15no plot
13:16and everything about it
13:18is really just
13:19the same stuff
13:20that you can say
13:21about most of Sonic.
13:23So it's still not good.
13:25The whole show
13:26is just nothing.
