The jack is out of the box as former Concacaf President Jack Warner continues to speak out about T&T football.
Warner who was a guest on the 6 to 26 podcast with Andre Errol Baptiste and Tony Lee, backed Dwight Yorke as coach but feels that off the field matters could stand in the way of qualification.
00:00Former FIFA Vice President Jack Warner believes this is TNT's best chance to qualify for the second ever World Cup.
00:07Warner, who admits that he hasn't followed local football since his FIFA ban 12 years ago, insists however that better needs to be done off the field.
00:14If I were in football still at this time, I would have danced a jig for a fig for the group that we are in.
00:22For me, it's the easiest group. And if ever this country has a chance of qualifying, this is it and it's now.
00:31You have to have your team playing against opponents of a similar stature, similar stance.
00:36I haven't read what's happening. You have to have also your coaches going out and looking at the other teams, opposing teams, and see how they're playing and who their stars are.
00:47I'm not aware that is being done.
00:48Warner is also fond of new coach Dwight York, but is adamant that he needs help to get the job done.
00:54I like Dwight York. In fact, I groomed him. I took him from Signal Hill to live in my home.
01:01I sent him to school, saying I'm a sincere, comprehensive school. I groomed him.
01:05So therefore, I'm not saying anything negative about him.
01:07All I'm saying is, I believe that he needs some more grey hairs as a coach to succeed.
01:12And if I were right, I would have called one of those top English coaches to come and work with me, not to take over, work alongside me, and then defense or midfield, as the case may be, or your father.
01:26But he needs help. And there's nothing shameful.
01:30Mr. Warner, however, cautioned that York is fighting an uphill battle given the state of local football.
01:36From what I said, it was as appealing as it was yesterday. I don't think so.
01:41When you look at the secondary school football league, for example, look and see what the league is today, and again, what it was yesterday.
01:47Look at, of course, the Premier League or the Premier League, as they call it and so on, today.
01:53You remember when the defense force was playing Memphis in Arima?
01:56The whole of Arima shut down. Shut down.
02:00You remember the role that Ralph Brown played in the defense force by bringing the top players in the country and so on?
02:06What's happening today?
02:08Where are we?
02:09I mean, our women football is not high anymore.
02:13Our youth football is not high anymore.
02:15And therefore, if these things are not high, you cannot get a fruit at the end of the day because you do have nothing to work with.
02:21I mean, our youth football is not high anymore.
