00:00The feeling of disappointment and dejection was palpable through the corridors, the dressing
00:05room, and on the face of the players following last night's 1-1 draw to Jamaica.
00:10The World Cup dream was officially over, and Dwight York summed up the mood not only on
00:15that night, but for the campaign.
00:17DWIGHT YORK, We really felt that we had done enough to win the game again.
00:20And I think, you know, again, if you look at the stats, it suggests all of that.
00:24So it does feel like a defeat, although we haven't lost the game, but we seem like a
00:31common theme.
00:32We played Curaçao, it's a similar feeling.
00:34We played Jamaica even when they beat us.
00:38You know, we felt like we gifted them the goals, but, you know, I don't want to look too much
00:45on the negative.
00:46It is where we are, but I certainly believe in these players, and I think that if you're
00:54fair to these young boys, which most of them are, from where we were to where we are now,
01:02it's incredible.
01:03While elimination is a tough pill to swallow, York is focused on the growth achieved.
01:08For me, as I said, it would take some time for us to get to the level.
01:15It's just the way how the nature works.
01:17But unfortunately, results keep you in the job, you've got to make sure you get results
01:21along the way.
01:22But I think everyone can see that this Trinidad and Tobago team is, it's a very good team.
01:29It's a very good team.
01:30And I'm so proud to be the coach of these young boys that will continue to grow, and I think
01:38the future is really bright for Trinidad and Tobago football.
01:40Scoring goals has been an Achilles heel for the national team, with only five goals scored
01:45in five deep matches, a problem York is continuing to address.
01:49It's an area that is a dying breed in the world of football.
01:53You know, there's not too many great number nines out there.
01:55There's only probably a handful of them.
01:58And so it's an area that we're trying to improve, but we overall in terms of the style of play
02:04and what we, our philosophy and the structure and the balance of the team is really good.
02:10It's just that final turn, that's that little turn.
02:13And I feel like we haven't got, you know, the football gods on our side this time around.
02:20We have, we needed a little bit of luck here or there, a little ricochet, the shots on target
02:25straight to the goal.
02:26Those little moments, you know, makes a difference.
02:29When the former Manchester United striker was appointed head coach a year ago, the TTFA
02:34president Karen Edwards summed up York's mission by saying, it's qualifying for the World
02:38Cup or nothing.
02:40So with the World Cup now out of the picture, York addressed his future.
02:44I made it very clear.
02:45This is one of the proudest moment when the job was handed to me after the conversation
02:52with the president.
02:53The indication was clear within the 12 months to try and get us to the World Cup.
03:01And yeah, listen, it's, it's disappointed, I have to say, but I only have another six months
03:08or so on the, on the contract.
03:09Again, we will talk to see if they want me to carry on, but I'm very happy with where
03:16we are as a, as a team, as a country in terms of the football.
03:20And I'm sure we'll be disappointed that we're not in a position to, to qualify for the World
03:25Cup.
03:26But the work begins now, maybe, you know, whatever I built, whatever the outcome is,
03:32Toronto and Tobago football is in a good place.
03:34And I would think that they can certainly improve on that, whether I'm the person to
03:40take them forward or not.
03:41And though the future is not in its hands, York plays his year as head coach from this
03:46perspective.
03:47I encourage people to look at the numbers, but they will say numbers doesn't win your games.
03:52And although we haven't lost the game, it feels like a defeat.
03:56And that's where Trinidad and Tobago football is at the moment.
03:59And that's something that wasn't there 12 months ago.
04:02Let's go.
