00:00Well, more joy follows Dwight York's appointment as head coach of the National Football Team.
00:05This time, former Strike Squad captain Clayton Morris has expressed his praise to one of
00:09his former teammates, even as he remembered the journey of the Soka Warriors, including
00:13their attempt to qualify for the World Cup and when they finally accomplished it in 2006.
00:1918 years later, Dwight York, who was a player in the 1989 Strike Squad and a player and
00:26captain of the 2005 Soka Warriors, is now selected the head coach of the Trinidad and
00:34Tobago men's football team.
00:38This is a great achievement for an individual who has played his trade as a player and coach
00:43with distinction internationally.
00:47To answer your question, Sergio, I'm honored to be in the land of the living to witness
00:52this moment.
00:53And I want to congratulate Dwight on this coming from the Strike Squad family.
00:57We want to wish him all the best in his new role as head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago
01:02National Football Team.
01:04He believes York will get the respect he deserves.
01:07I think he will get total respect, but again, it is important for him now to build that
01:14foundation and give them that confidence in him as a coach because they will know a lot
01:20more about him as a player and not really as a coach.
01:25So he now has to bring that level of experience, you know, from what he learned from the coaches
01:33that he was under and then the experience he had where he went and he did his coaching
01:38license and the experience he had, as you said, out in Australia and what have you.
01:43York is known for maintaining a good physique.
01:46Will he impart his discipline on the players?
01:48Well, definitely.
01:49You know, it's always good and if I can reflect in our time, when we were given the opportunity
01:55to be coached by Everett Garley-Cummings, everything he asked us to do, he was physically
02:01doing it.
02:02So with Dwight at this level, as I know, Dwight's fitness is key.
02:06He will be able to demonstrate everything as a top player in the world today to these
02:12guys.
02:13So that alone will be a plus on his part.
02:15Morris believes York's versatility as a player will be one of his biggest assets.
02:19Knowing Dwight, Dwight is a complete footballer.
02:22And if I could say my own part, as a defender, I understand how to coach attacking players
02:31because as a defender, you must be able to read the plays and it's the same thing as
02:35an attacker.
02:36You would know the weaknesses and the strengths of defense.
02:39So Dwight will be able to deliver on both ends, right, given the experience and as you
02:44said, he played in a tap for Manchester, Aston Villa prior to Manchester.
02:51And then when he came into South Korea, he dropped back into the midfield and that central
02:56midfield role where again, that calls for a lot of knowledge, understanding, composure
03:02and leadership.
03:03To be successful, he added that York would need to get the support necessary from the
03:07TTFA.
03:08We would look at the coach, right, we would just see the coach out there.
03:12But there's a lot of things in the back room that the coach needs that will help him to
03:18do his job.
03:19And one of the things is administratively, you know, they have to put the pieces in place.
03:27They have to have the logistics, right?
03:29The players also have to have to play their role and coming back to the administration,
03:35they have to make sure that the players being treated and being given the basic things that
03:40would allow them to want to be part of the national team.
03:44November continues to be a historic month for TNT.
03:46It's left now for York to score what would be another big goal to coach Trinidad and
03:51Tobago's national football team to a World Cup.
