00:00Speaking about the all-important World Cup qualifier, TNT's all-time leading goal scorer, Stern John, believes that Dwight York should be kept on as manager of TNT despite the outcome of the campaign.
00:11John, the current manager of St. Lucia, speaking with I-95's Andre Errol-Baptiste, said a lot more has changed or starting with the domestic league and player development.
00:20We need stability. We can't be changing coaches every couple of months and sacking coaches. We need some kind of structure in all football again.
00:31Our pro league, everything needs to be restructured and get back to the top five because now we play against countries in the Caribbean and they have no respect for us before.
00:39We can't fill any young team or any kind of team and send them to the rest of the Caribbean. It's not that way anymore.
00:45I think we need some kind of structure and stabilising football, but it starts in turn out with the professional league and the grassroot programmes.
00:54We've got to get them ready for the national team programme because a lot of the players we see in the national team, I mean, sometimes Dwight, he's probably kicking away.
01:02Of course, he's definitely a bit diplomatic about his approach, but a lot of the things you have to teach in the national programme, you shouldn't be teaching that because you have no time for it at that level.
01:11After the home game against the reggae boys, John says TNT only have one option at home next week.
01:18Yeah, we have to win. We have to win. We have to win. I think when you look back at your World Cup qualifiers, I think you have to make your house a fortress.
01:27You have to win your home games. And once you win your home games and a couple of points here away from home, you can have a good chance at qualifying.
01:36But you need to win your home games. It's important that you win your home games. I think we need to get behind the team because we have to win.
01:42It's not going to be an easy game. Obviously, Jamaica have a lot riding on this game too as well too. They have opportunities to go to the World Cup and they were just devastated by this hurricane too as well too.
01:54So they have a lot to play for and a lot to prove and they're playing for a whole country behind them too as well too. So it's not going to be an easy game, but I think at home we can turn them around. So hopefully we can do that.
