A heavy hearted decision.

That's how former national men's head coach Dwight Yorke described his decision to step down from his role with the national team.
Transcript
00:00During the World Cup campaign, we could have afforded to pay a bit more for Coach York.
00:06We know, and everyone knows, that during that period of final qualification, sponsors are more on board.
00:14We know the culture of sponsors in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:17It's one that we are hoping to change over the next couple of years.
00:20But the sponsors were on for the World Cup campaign, so we could afford to do it.
00:25And ensuring that the program is sustainable, we had discussions with Coach York to look at revising his salary and
00:33his salary of his coaching staff.
00:34And we couldn't reach that conclusion in terms of keeping him on.
00:39And the decision was made by the executive to terminate the agreement with Coach York on the 28th of February.
00:48The TTFE president admitted there were other issues beyond money that factored into the decision.
00:53He also gave some insight into the negotiations, including the termination of the coaching staff since December.
01:00So the discussion was around Coach York and his staff.
01:03Oh, he had to come back?
01:03Yeah, to come back with his staff.
01:05So he wanted his staff.
01:06And most head coaches with men's senior teams, or even women's senior teams, normally travel with a few of their
01:14staff that is non-negotiable in terms of their staff.
01:17So that transpired, even in numbers with his staff as well.
01:22We had some difficulty there, and we parted with it.
01:26And now that he's no longer the coach, Edwards was pressured into giving his rating on York's tenure.
01:31How would you rate Dwight York's overall performance, 1 out of 10?
01:35I cannot rate it like that.
01:38No, you are personally.
01:39No, no, no, no.
01:40I'm not acting as a president, acting as a human being.
01:42No, so personally, I can't.
01:45So there are different aspects that I judge in the videos on.
01:48But if you compile everything, I would give him, not qualifying for the woke-up, I'll give him a 5.
01:545 out of 10?
01:55Yeah.
01:55That's a high maximum, I think, actually, to be honest.
01:58As for York's replacement, Derek King will be the interim coach once more, alongside Hudson Charles.
02:03Right now, Derek King is the interim coach, and we have to appoint a permanent coach to the men's national
02:08team.
02:09If that is Coach Derek King or a new coach, we would have those discussions.
02:13But by the time Nation League come around, we'll have a coach in place for the next year and a
02:19half, two years.
