00:00It's Viva Las Vegas and Hello SEMA Show!
00:10That's our story as we embark on one of the greatest adventures in overhauling history.
00:14And that ain't just hype as we pull off a full-blown overhaul here in Sin City.
00:18Smack dab in the middle of the Super Bowl of aftermarket parts and accessories, the SEMA Show.
00:23So in this town known for its games and illusions, we are right at home where we trick a car owner...
00:28And trick out his ride. Here with the help of the Automotive Celebration, our host, the SEMA Show, on a very special edition of Overhauling.
00:41I am gasoline.
00:45That's right.
00:46I am gasoline matches.
00:52Hey, I'm Courtney.
01:04I'm Chris.
01:05And with the Las Vegas SEMA Show as our location, we are working this build in front of the active audience of a wild and crazy convention.
01:11But some people might say that we're the crazy ones because we've built a full overhaul and set inside the Las Vegas Convention Center.
01:19We're going to take our normal seven-day build and turn it into something truly special.
01:23All this for our Vegas-based Mark Berry.
01:26He's the owner of a 1970 Mustang Fastback that came to our attention by way of this guy.
01:31This is Brent. He's Berry's son, and he's a very big part of the play that's going to get that old Ford away from his old man.
01:37Kevin King and Kevin Bird head to Berry's house with a tow truck driver to repossess his Mustang.
01:44They didn't realize that the car's tires would be so low on air, though.
01:48And pushing this hunk of metal is more work than they bargained for.
01:52Dogs.
01:54But with a little elbow grease, they managed to get it out of the tow truck and make a clean getaway.
01:59Push around a big black car with no air in the tires.
02:02Or so they thought.
02:04Hey, man. What's going on? Huh? What's going on?
02:07Hey, we got papers to pick the car up.
02:10How do you have papers to pick this car up?
02:12Right here. Over here.
02:13What?
02:14How do you have papers to pick this car up?
02:16Get the orders.
02:17Copy, sir.
02:19Apparently somebody owes money to somebody, and we're going to take this car for now.
02:24Berry's clearly a Ford fan, all decked out in Ford racing gear.
02:28So I don't owe any money, and that's in my name.
02:31I'm carrying good things, Sarah.
02:33Telling us numbers, we'll be able to track it now.
02:35I don't know what this is about.
02:36Thanks, sir.
02:37Do you know what's going...
02:42What?
02:43I don't know what this is about.
02:45I don't know what's going on, Dad.
02:55Are you mad?
02:56Yup, he's mad.
02:58So as his pony heads up the strip, let's meet the talented set of teams coming together as one colossal Vegas A-Team.
03:04Our team from that auto parts and car building giant year one consists of Kevin King, Jeff Georges, Phil Brewer, and Jimmy Curly.
03:12Team unique performance brings us Mustang pros Doug Hastie, Bobby Mikus, Greg Bond, and Bill Cate.
03:19The Ford racing team rolls in with good friends Kevin Bird and Greg Coleman.
03:23Team Huntington Beach serves up body and paint with Carl Richmond, our pal Brian Fuller from Foose Design, and by way of Stitchcraft, the one and only Revo.
03:32We never tire or dread the dread of BF Goodrich's Zach Merrill, Tim Walker, and Frank Broman.
03:38And Team Captain Chip Foose is our high roller here in Vegas, sure to deal out one giant jackpot of a design.
03:49All right, we got Barry's Mustang. We're back here at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
03:53It's nuts right now. We got forklifts going on all around us. They're setting up for the SEMA show.
03:57But we have to work around all of that and get this car to the ready and waiting 18.
04:04The team dives in like car pros on a schedule.
04:08But right away, we've got a problem.
04:10They have the keys, but the latch won't open.
04:14And when force fails, the solution is a little bit of Foose know-how.
04:18Once the trunk's open, it's on to the other end of the car.
04:21What do you guys think of the motor right now?
04:23It's big.
04:24Yeah, it's big.
04:25But it ain't big enough.
04:26The harder they look, the more they find to worry about.
04:29Fortunately, we've got a lot of talented people to put in a lot of hours this week, because this car needs it.
04:35Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. That's good quality fit right there.
04:46This Mustang was a father and son project for Barry and Brent.
04:49They've had it fixed a little, a couple of times.
04:52And then the car's been stolen and wrecked a couple of times.
04:56This time, Pro Tech Resources is going to give it the alarm of its life.
05:00But nothing's going in until Chip gets the crew together and the gang gets the skinny on what's going down.
05:06Body Mods, that is going to be Carl, Brian, Phil, and Gorgeous George.
05:11Suspension, unique performance, Bobby and Greg.
05:15California Performance Transmission, our car.
05:18Now that we have this, this car's ready to turn apart.
05:24Piece by piece, the car is taken apart.
05:26And as disassembly shifts from first to second, we already see Barry's project car as a project in need of some professional help.
05:39This bumper was really only being held down by two bolts.
05:42And actually only about one and a half bolts, because one of them was really loose.
05:48We're all going crazy trying to get the car apart, so we can get it over to the Media Blaster, get all this old paint stripped off.
05:53So once it comes back, we can get started on the metal work and start on the fabrication.
06:00We have a lot to do before SEMA opens its doors.
06:03The goal, have a fully repaired painted car body in front of the crowd by the time the convention center is packed with car people.
06:10All right, well we're midway through day one of the build here at SEMA.
06:14The energy is alive and things are really moving along.
06:16The whole interior of the Mustang has been gutted.
06:18Chip is working on the bumpers.
06:20We're about to take out the engine and transmission and get this thing to the Media Blaster.
06:25All right, this is afternoon of day one.
06:28And I am here with Barry's son Brent and his cousin Brian.
06:32A lot of bees going on.
06:34And we're about to make a prank phone call.
06:36Hi, my name is Detective Peter Murnick.
06:38I'm with the Las Vegas Metro.
06:40But one phone prank's not enough for this oversized overhauling.
06:43So while Brent deals the cards, Chris is really going to make Barry's head spit.
06:46I'm about to make another prank phone call.
06:49This time I'm going to be calling as a representative of First Capital Repossession Incorporated.
06:54Mr. Garner?
06:55Yes.
06:56Hi, how you doing? This is Jesse. I'm over here at First Capital.
07:00Mm-hmm.
07:01I got your messages about repossessioning your Mustang this morning.
07:05Right.
07:06Right off the bat, do you have a gambling problem? Because apparently this claim was in lieu of a gambling debt.
07:14You have a son named Brent, is that right?
07:16Yeah.
07:17Well, Brent, I guess, gave the car over as collateral for a debt he's got with a gambling establishment that we work with.
07:28The claim that the car is in lieu of is $20,000.
07:31You know, they can't take my property. I don't have anything to do with their debts.
07:34Right, right.
07:35It's just a collateral situation. He hasn't actually given the car over to us.
07:40Brent can't do anything with that car, and neither can you, because it doesn't long to get to Brent, are you?
07:45Well, no, I'm not claiming that it belongs to me. I'm claiming that we repossessed the car because Brent gave us the car to repossess if he did default on his debts.
07:55Your son might have done something he shouldn't have done.
08:00In order for you to get the car back, we need to settle this debt.
08:04Who does?
08:06Wait to hear from me. Let me do a little bit more legwork on this, and I will be in touch with you.
08:12I'll give you a couple days to try to work something out.
08:14Okay.
08:15Thanks very much.
08:16All righty. Thank you, sir. Bye-bye.
08:20Man.
08:22He's a butt kicker.
08:23All right, it's the evening of day one here, building our 70 Mustang in Las Vegas at the SEMA convention.
08:29And this is a pretty cool set. You know, we've got some grandstands built so that people can watch.
08:33We've got the BF Goodrich trailer where we're going to be cutting tires. That's pretty cool, huh?
08:37We're going to cut some wheels on site. We've got Foose's design table over here. Really cool lift.
08:42A bunch of year one parts are coming in to help out. But you might have noticed there's no Mustang here.
08:49That's because he's at the Media Blasters getting shot down to bare metal.
08:52It'll probably be back here around 1 a.m. And that's when I'll be back. See, I'll stay tuned.
08:58Coming up, Chip lays out his vision. And later, SEMA is swamped by fans.
09:07On day one of our overhaul and build here at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, we told our Mark that his 1970 Mustang had been repossessed due to his son's excessive gambling debts.
09:21That was set up through an arrangement with Barry's boy Brent.
09:24And now that day two has arrived, we have to make like dice and roll because this is a massive makeover that might not get done on time.
09:31A possibility that could land us the first set of snake eyes we've ever thrown.
09:37Well, here goes nothing. Let's call Pops and see...
09:39Better you than me.
09:40See how his blood pressure's doing.
09:43Dad?
09:44Yeah?
09:45And I didn't know that this all was going to happen, Dad.
09:47I see the manager of the place said that you authorized it.
09:52Well, I mean, I did, but, you know, people don't actually take cars and things like that. I mean, it's not a movie.
09:58You're into them for money.
10:00You know, I made a few bets and I did really well and they gave me credit.
10:04I don't know, I just took advantage of the credit and when I didn't win, they came around and they started muscling me and it was scary.
10:10These are, you know, these are tough guys and I, you know...
10:14Yeah, they're going to be tough until they get their money.
10:16Well, we'll make it right, Dad. I mean, I don't know what's going on, but, you know, I got a level with you.
10:20I'm a little kind of nervous and I'm really just, like, they've got a gun to my head constantly.
10:26Even now, it feels that way.
10:28Well, yeah, it scares me.
10:30The manager, Jesse, said that you and I are supposed to try and work something out because he's going to be checking with me on Monday,
10:37but I don't have anything to work out. I don't know what to work out.
10:40Well, like I said, I'm working this weekend and there's some games on Saturday, so we might have something to...
10:47What games?
10:49Well, there's the all-star game, there's college ball, there's a few things.
10:53Bets?
10:54Well, yeah. How else am I going to come up with $20,000?
10:57You've gone under on this stuff already. How are you going to think you can trust going and doing any better?
11:03You just go further?
11:04I'm going to go to a different bookie.
11:11I gotta go, Dad. I gotta go. I'm at work.
11:13Okay.
11:14Alright, bye.
11:15Bye.
11:16Well, that was easily the most difficult phone call I've ever made in my life.
11:20Dude, you're pure evil.
11:21Pure evil. I'm Damien. I'm the omen.
11:24You better appreciate this because I'm feeling really low right now.
11:27Well, it's morning of day two. A lot of these guys worked all night. We got the car back from the Media Blaster and they've been going at it, welding up panels, welding up door handles, fitting the front end.
11:39Fuller's been back there working on their rear bumper. So they've been working all night and this is kind of the pace we need to be at.
11:45Now it's all about body work. Trying to have a painted car when the crowd comes in after SEMA opens its doors.
11:51And some of this body work is stuff that was taken off the body.
11:55These are extended extensions that go in the front of the car. They are die cast aluminum. And they're in pretty bad shape. But they're not reproduced and hard to replace. So we're repairing them anyway.
12:07Look, we had some pretty significant rust right here in the front. So instead of replacing the whole skin, we decided just to take this patch out.
12:16The fender extensions don't fit these fenders. So having to make a provision to drop this fender extension in here.
12:31I shouldn't have done that. That's what I shouldn't have done.
12:34Wow, my God.
12:37Grant arrives to work on the car, picking up parts for us and pitching in to help.
12:41I can't believe how far it's come in the seven hours it's been since I've seen it. You guys go on gambling shifts. One guy pounds for an hour, another guy plays the tables.
12:50Something like that. Yeah, we're just constantly rolling over.
12:53My dad is going to flip out. He's going to flip out. I'm flipping out. This looks crazy.
12:58It's just tough because the guy is so down right now. He's so down to dumps and he kind of shuffles around. And I saw him for two seconds this morning and he said two things to me.
13:08He said, son. And he wouldn't look at me. He was looking at the ground. He said, yeah, Pop. He said, I'm going to work. Walked out. That's all.
13:15He couldn't bring himself to ask me any questions about how this happened. What are you going to do about it? Where's the car?
13:21So he loves this Mustang so much. He loves this Mustang, but right now it's like an internal struggle. It's like Brent, Mustang, Brent, Mustang.
13:30Who's the winner? Brent or Mustang? I think we all know who the winner is.
13:35Well, it's the morning of day three. A lot of work going on right now. We're waiting for the body guys to show up so they can finish the body work.
13:42Unique is doing their rear suspension. So there's a lot going on. A lot still needs to be done.
13:47Okay, we were hoping to get this car in and out of pain in time for the start of SEMA.
13:54But with that deadline less than 48 hours away and tons of body work left to finish, we don't even know if we'll be ready in time for D-Day.
14:01In addition to welding and patching holes, the team has to smooth over the car with body filler, a time gobbling process that can't be rushed.
14:09It's hard to sand the car when somebody's shaking the car. It's hard to put body filler on when somebody's shaking the car. A guy's inside welding. It's hard to weld when somebody's shaking the car.
14:19Everyone is rushing to get the car to paint, but we don't know what the paint job will look like, yet.
14:24Here in Overhaaland, we've taken him from Laramie, Wyoming to Austin, Texas. From all of Southern California to the Las Vegas Strip.
14:37Wherever he is, brilliance flows from his pens and onto the drawing board.
14:43Foose is our traveling genius. And when we take a road trip to do a little tricking, it's Chip who's taking care of the tricking out.
14:50And, of course, that painted sketch is going to be at the heart of all that tricking out. Our overhaul and guide when it comes to delivering the ride that Barry can only dream about.
14:59Elegant colors. That's what Brent talked about with Chip. So Foose is striking that three-way balance between traditional Mustang, classy additions, and sleek design work that'll be both contemporary and timeless.
15:12Who else could pull all that off other than Foose?
15:15I like your car, Barry.
15:17So, here we are. Bumpers are not looking so pretty, but they'll be nice and spiffy. We've got to get them to Chrome Shop in the morning. I would think so.
15:40The bumpers have to be sent to Los Angeles for Chrome. And that means a lot of heating, a lot of hammering, and a lot of grinding in a period that's not a lot of time.
15:49It's clear that Brian's not going to rest until those bumpers are snug and tight, complementing Foose's altered lines on the body of the car.
15:59California Performance Transmissions by Art Car C6, custom tailored for 514 inches of Ford Race and Crate Motor.
16:08I am ready.
16:14Barry, all this we're doing for you just because you are wearing that Ford Racing shirt and racing hat.
16:22Oh, great powertrain. Please give us power.
16:33Coming up, we go to paint in order to beat the rush.
16:37Days two and three here in Vegas with overhauling at SEMA. We made some convention hall size progress.
16:51And now that day four has arrived, we have a full house of work at playing the card table, so we've got to hustle.
16:56Time to pull down the handle and hope we don't see any lemons come spinning our way.
17:00Well, it's day four in this overhaul and build, and we have issues.
17:05Not only is the paint booth inoperable at this point, but the Mustang needed a lot more body filler than we had anticipated.
17:10It's going to be another full day of body work, and we will hopefully have this thing in the booth for a primer by tonight.
17:17Ever so gracefully, the team removes the stock suspension.
17:34So it's out with the old and in with the new.
17:37Just getting the subframe connectors welded up, make this car rigid so it feels like it's running on rails.
17:44You got a lot more adjustment in both the shock, the coil, and the arm and controls.
17:53So here we go. We're going to call Barry as Jesse, the guy from First Repossessions, and set up a meeting between the money guys, Brent and himself.
18:02I'm calling you back like I told you I would.
18:04Yeah.
18:05I wanted to set up a meeting with you tomorrow so we can discuss our options here.
18:09Why would you want me to meet you for anything anyhow because I'm not involved in this?
18:13Since you're the owner of the car, as you said, your son's going to be there as well. I spoke to him earlier.
18:17You know, I thought you might want to be there just to kind of be a part of things.
18:22No.
18:24If you do want your car back, I'm going to need to meet with you.
18:26I really don't think you have any options for me, though, that I can agree to.
18:31I'll probably let Metro and a lawyer handle it. I think they'd do a better job than I would.
18:36If you want to do it that way, totally fine. Thanks for your time. I'll be speaking with your son tomorrow.
18:41Okay.
18:42Great.
18:43All right. Bye-bye now.
18:44Bye.
18:46Barry playing a little hardball there. He's letting you hang out there.
18:49Yeah, well, that sucks.
18:50Letting you dangle a little bit.
18:52Right now, it's a no-go on having to meet with us tomorrow, but we'll see what happens. Stay tuned.
18:57All right, well, it's afternoon four and the Mustang is finally ready for primer. Let's get it over to the AFC booth on the other side of the building.
19:05Let's go.
19:07The dudes from AFC have actually built a paint booth just outside the convention center for us.
19:12Still, the trip is a long one for a rudderless Mustang.
19:16The path is fraught with peril.
19:18I'm going to tell you how crazy this is. We're about to roll this bad boy down, no brakes, no steering, but we've got to get into the paint booth somehow.
19:24So, look at this. We've got a little help from our forklift friend.
19:27We'll strap it up, use that as our brakes.
19:30No problem, baby. When you're in Vegas, you've got to improvise, you know what I'm saying?
19:34Let's hope it works. There's no room for mistakes after all the body work so far.
19:41All right, well, there you go. We've successfully negotiated coming down the ramp thanks to our friend on the forklift.
19:46And now there's not a spare second to spare.
19:49We've got to get this thing on primer so we can make it on time. Let's go.
19:56The primer gets started, but this is a process that's going to go all night.
20:03Meanwhile, inside the shop, the stereo guys are creating panels to mount the kicker components.
20:08And Foose has sketched out some designs for our interior craftsmen.
20:14All right, well, we've got Team Stitchcraft here. What's going on, Revo?
20:18We just got the rendering from Chip, so now we can get started cutting the leather.
20:22We need to cut the seat down, take out the harness holes, do metal fab on the seat, and start making a pattern.
20:28All right, just got a call from Barry on the detective's voicemail saying please call me because he had just heard from Jesse at First Capital Repossessions.
20:36Hi, Detective Murnick.
20:37Hi.
20:38Hi, I actually got all three of your messages this morning.
20:43So I want you to tell me about your last conversation with Jesse.
20:46He was saying something. If you want to get your car back, you ought to come to this meeting.
20:50He says we are going to get your car back, but it's my advice to you that you should meet with them.
20:57I mean, I'm a father. I have two boys of my own, and I wouldn't let one of my sons go to a meeting like this by himself.
21:04All right, I'll do it.
21:05Okay.
21:06Okay.
21:07Bye-bye.
21:09I don't know if it's ever happened in his life before, but I think I out-monotoned him.
21:16Night is when the lights go up in Sin City.
21:21And night is also when our primer just keeps on spraying.
21:27It's now round-the-clock jammin', knowing that this is no ordinary deadline.
21:31We're going to have all of SEMA watching our every move.
21:37Coming up, how will our build measure up once SEMA opens its doors?
21:50It's day five. SEMA has officially opened, and there's not a whole lot of action going on in our set.
22:07Yeah, unfortunately, there's no car right now, so we have nothing to work on.
22:10But even with an empty stage, we're drawing a crowd, so that means this is a good time to hang out with the fans.
22:16Of course, not all work has stopped without the car on hand.
22:19So we're still waiting on the car. The front seats will be finished in about ten minutes.
22:22That's our cue to go check on the progress down at our AFC paint booth.
22:33We're just in time to catch the final coat of primer.
22:36A few short days ago, this booth was little more than a few parts and an idea.
22:47But in went an effort and the hours, making it happen for overhauling, and now, our clueless Mark Berry.
22:52So we've got to hand it to AFC and Kaiser for coming through for us.
22:56As you can see, we have an anxious crowd behind me, and the car is just now rolling out a primer.
23:00And now that it's back, it's time for Foos to block out those graphics so we can get some color on this fastback.
23:12The inspiration for this graphic is all based on this scoop.
23:16Right here.
23:21Woohoo!
23:23How you doing?
23:24Hey, how you doing?
23:25Congratulations.
23:26How are you?
23:27Thank you, you too.
23:28I need you to bring a little conflict to our set.
23:30Conflict?
23:31Yeah.
23:32Chip refuses.
23:33I can do that.
23:34He refuses to embrace conflict.
23:35Oh, yeah?
23:36We need all the trouble.
23:37Yell at Brian because he's one of my employees.
23:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:39Get right with it.
23:40Oh, you know what?
23:41You can do it to Greg Coleman over here.
23:42Let's go yell at Greg over there in the Ford Racing.
23:44How you doing, boss?
23:45These guys want me to yell at you.
23:46I'm not going to yell at you.
23:47I was going to actually do what you need to do.
23:49You know what I mean?
23:50Well, you know what?
23:51There has to be a reason though.
23:52You know what I'm saying?
23:53SEMA brings out the stars.
23:54Friends like our American Chopper Pals, as well as legendary car creator George Barris.
23:59Chip is a new kid on the block that has the talent.
24:02But you know what the best thing about him is?
24:04He's a great kid.
24:06And what parade of celebrities would be complete without pro wrestling icon Hulk Hogan?
24:10I can't believe my favorite wrestler in the entire world is standing right next to me.
24:14What's up, brother?
24:15I thought he was a lot taller though.
24:17Kenny Wayne Shepherd is here to check out our set and meet the great foose.
24:21I'm a big fan.
24:22How you doing?
24:23Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
24:24Nice to meet you.
24:25I've got your music.
24:26Yeah?
24:27Yeah, I love it.
24:28I'm a huge fan of yours too.
24:29I watch the show.
24:30And you know, very, very talented.
24:32Well, thanks.
24:33Thanks.
24:34BF Goodrich is taking this Mustang to a whole new place in a car build.
24:43Creating custom carved tires from an original foose design.
24:46Jim, so what are we doing here?
24:48Okay, we're gonna repeat the Mustang head pattern around the tire 14 times.
24:52And we're just gonna paint it on at the present time and get ready for the carving process.
24:55Okay.
24:56First things first, the design has to be stenciled onto the tire as a guide to cut the tire.
25:03The tires are then mounted on a rim for the next stage, carving.
25:10Courtney lays down the final cut and then this tire is ready to go.
25:16You do not want to be in my dent.
25:21With Chris disguised as the bookie, Brent and his dad arrive at the location where they
25:26will sort things out.
25:27Our four thugs roll in after them.
25:30Oh, here they are right here.
25:31We got four of them.
25:32Look at them.
25:33How are ya?
25:37Been better.
25:38Okay.
25:39How are you, Jesse?
25:40How are you?
25:41How are you doing?
25:42Great.
25:43Brent, been tough to get a hold of the last week.
25:44Yeah, I've been working a lot.
25:45I've got a new bill to pay for.
25:46It's been a lot of hours.
25:47That's true.
25:48It's kind of a big bill now.
25:49Yeah, I know.
25:50Yeah.
25:51Well, he can keep working with us, but we definitely want to make sure we're going
25:52to get a hold of the last week.
25:53How are you?
25:54How are you?
25:55How are you?
25:56How are you?
25:57How are you?
25:58How are you?
25:59How are you?
26:00How are you?
26:01How are you?
26:02How are you?
26:03How are you?
26:04How are you?
26:05How are you?
26:06How are you doing?
26:07How are you doing?
26:08I'm kidding, I feel like I'm a Prieto-Stexer won't die, too.
26:09I'm出來 stamps.
26:10So if Republicans are much better, they'd be off of a dollar, but I would rather be
26:11to the Fed Planetner's dollar.
26:12The Fed Planetner HSå½±s, Vermont Penstem, businessman or business, compared to the
26:13oisi, spent just over the past year.
26:14The Consciously房.
26:15That's true.
26:16It's kind of a big bill now.
26:17Yeah.
26:18I know.
26:19Well, you can keep working with us, but we definitely want to make sure we get this paid
26:20off.
26:21Well, I don't really want to place anymore bets or anything, I'm just kind of concerned
26:22about getting his car back.
26:25There's got to be something else.
26:26much as a $20,000 bet, but we gotta have something that's collateral. I'm willing to work with
26:31you guys on a payment plan or anything like that. What were you thinking? A couple hundred
26:36dollars a month, a week, whatever you can swing. Okay, I can do that. I mean, are you willing
26:42to go along with Brent on his plan then? Whatever Brent needs to do, it's his deal. I have nothing
26:48to do with it. This is what I can do for you. Brent, if you can make maybe a prepayment to me
26:52tomorrow, perhaps have your car back to you on Friday. So I understand it is your car,
26:59but it's your dad. So if we ever do business together again, let's make sure that it's your
27:05property that I'm taking as collateral and not your dad's here. Yeah, don't forget me. So
27:09I'll be giving you a call tomorrow. Okay. You got it? Yeah. And then we'll see you on Friday.
27:15Okay. Okay. With the deal made and the goons on their way, Barry seems a bit rattled by it
27:21the way. See, that wasn't so bad. Did you see a couple of those guys? What kind of wheels
27:27are you going to make? Aluminum. Billet. What brand wheels are they going to be when you get
27:32that? Billet boy. These are one-off foos wheels. Very cool. One-off foos wheels.
27:40They're rims carved out by wheel pro Aaron Youngerman.
27:43I work with Chip on a size layout offset backspace brake caliper. Once we have a layout, that kind
27:58of determines his design. And then we set up the machine with whatever size lay blank we
28:04need. I take his rendering and put it in the computer. Send a program to the machine and
28:13let it cut. Metal drilling metal as it's constantly being hit by liquid coolant. It's the only way
28:22to carve out a custom wheel. And the only way to do this at a convention center is for Haas to
28:27bring us 14,000 pounds of drilling precision. Now it's time for some polishing and some test fitting.
28:36And now you've got yourself some first-class one-off rolling stock.
28:44All right, Dad, we're going down to paint. And once again, we're making our treacherous trek down the long, steep,
28:50convention hall ramp and into the paint booth. It's going to be a long night, all about getting
28:57some color on the car.
29:07Like the primer, the first coat will only be the first of many.
29:10The time clock has us doing duty with spray guns, trying to get this car covered quickly.
29:20And quickly is what it's all about. We have Barry and a whole SEMA show waiting for this ride.
29:31Coming up, Chip performs graphic magic in front of the crowd.
29:40Well, days five and six of this overhaul and build are now in our rearview mirror.
29:48That's 48 hours of building in front of this conventioning crowd here at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
29:54And now that day seven has arrived, there are still a few critical and crucial touches left on Barry's Mustang.
29:58And our big old roulette wheel will soon stop spinning.
30:03On the morning of day six, the rush is on to finish the color.
30:06A job that would have been possible without the installation of our custom paint booth here at SEMA.
30:12Ooh, that looks great. I love that color.
30:16Very nice.
30:18Here's the scoop, Barry. Your car is now painted.
30:21We've got to get it back, get some details going, get the graphics laid out, start assembly, and I got a name for it.
30:26I call this the Gamble.
30:29It's a fitting name, because getting it finished on time will be a gamble for us as well.
30:32Working without a safety net in front of our live SEMA audience, leaving no room for error.
30:38Chip's busy scaling his graphic, including the name Gambler to fit the side of the car.
30:45But before the graphic can be painted on the car, the finish has to be color-sanded.
30:49The reason that we're color-sanding and polishing the car before we do the graphics is the graphics are going to be done in a satin black, which you do not color-sand rub satin black.
31:00Your spray finish is what you have.
31:02So we've got to get the paint to where we want it by color-sanding, rubbing it, and finishing it.
31:07Then mask off the graphics, come back in, spray those out, untape it, finish the assembly of the car.
31:12All right, well, it's evening six, and there's major concern looming in the air.
31:17As you can see, the car is still completely gutted.
31:20The exhaust system hasn't even had a chance to begin being installed yet.
31:23There's still a long ways to go.
31:25All right, Pop, it's day seven.
31:27It's the day before you get your car back.
31:29I think even maybe less than 24 hours, or maybe just over.
31:32And this is the condition the car's in.
31:34I'm a little bit nervous, but everyone assures me this is standard procedure.
31:37So, tomorrow around noon, maybe three o'clock, this is going to be your car, Dad.
31:42Hope you enjoy it.
31:46Morning seven, this is the last official day of the build.
31:49I thought all of our nerves would have subsided a little bit, but instead they've intensified.
31:53Look at the car. There's still such a long way to go.
31:55We're talking interior installations, tweaking on the motor, putting on the right brakes and tires, all the trim.
32:00We need to finish the exhaust system, put on the windows, lay out the graphics.
32:04This is ultimate crunch time.
32:05What do you guys think? Are we going to do it?
32:08Ryan, in five words or less, what's so great about this vintage air package?
32:13It cools like no other.
32:15Now, what's unique about this build is that not only does it have to happen in seven days,
32:19but the reveal absolutely has to happen by four o'clock tomorrow when SEMA's doors close.
32:24And it's happening in front of a live audience that we can't let down.
32:27So, more than ever, we have to finish this build in the next several hours.
32:31The Foose one-off rims are back with a blinding finish.
32:38And the hand-carved tires are ready to be put on.
32:41All right, there's one.
32:48Chip first puts down masking tape to help measure the layout of the graphics.
32:53It's the blue tape that will actually form the shape of the graphic, giving an outline to Foose's pattern.
33:06Now, it's time for that stencil serving up our Gambler 514.
33:24Uh, I think the car's looking real good.
33:27Because I know I don't.
33:29There's no time to get the car down to the booth and back.
33:31Lucky for us, we have Mitch Kelly on hand to ensure an expert touch on these graphics.
33:35Mitch makes the best of our hurried situation.
33:37Getting it done quick and easy.
33:38With the paint soon dry, it's time to peel away the tape and take in those stunning stripes.
33:52And the stencil working the graphic? It came out perfectly.
33:57Coming up, a prank worth gambling on.
33:58in those stunning stripes and the stencil work in the graphic it came out perfectly
34:05coming up a prank worth gambling on big time
34:18it is d-day they pulled an all-nighter last night to try to get this car done right now we're just
34:22waiting on the stereo system interior installations oh and we haven't even fired the engine yet
