00:00So you either got to rise up and try to compete with that, or you fold.
00:03And I respected him so much, watched so much film of him.
00:07And to be worth your salt in that building, that was the standard.
00:11So I was just trying to live up to that.
00:13All right, we have to talk about the mullet, right?
00:15How did that become your signature hairstyle?
00:17So my financial guy, he rocked the mullet when he was in college.
00:20And so long story short, we made a bet to see if we could have the best mullet by tax day.
00:26Clearly, I won, I rocked it, you know, took all the attention away from my ugly face.
00:30And, you know, we just crushed it.
00:33Is the bust, is your bust in the Hall of Fame going to have it?
00:36Absolutely.
00:36I think I'm like the only second mullet that's going to rock it, yeah.
00:40Got it, okay.
00:41And then you and I talked about your sacks, right?
00:43136 sacks in your career.
00:45You told me you have two favorites.
00:48What are they?
00:49Oh, I love hitting all quarterbacks because they're all a little pompous, you know,
00:52and so we got to bring them down a notch.
00:54But Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, arguably two of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.
00:59So Peyton Manning, my one and only sack on him.
01:03And then Tom Brady, I think, was the first play of the game on Sunday or Monday Night Football.
01:06Sunday Night Football, I believe, or Monday Night Football.
01:08So pretty pumped about that.
01:10Here's the other one right here.
01:11Oh yeah, there we go.
01:13That was their fault for leaving me one-on-one with a tight end.
01:14They should have known better.
01:17Okay, and back to the mullet, right?
01:19Because we want to do a who wore it better in sports, right?
01:24We're going to let you be the judge.
01:25Here we have it.
01:26Oh God, I mean, Bosworth was, I mean, iconic, right?
01:30Oh my goodness.
01:31I'm going to go with Agassi because of the fact that, I mean,
01:37what he did in the sport of tennis was revolutionary.
01:39And tennis is kind of that bougie sport.
01:41So to rock a mullet in a bougie sport like that, hockey is expected.
01:45So I'm going to go with Agassi, you know, I can never vote for myself ever.
01:49Well, we love it.
01:50It was quite memorable and congratulations to you.
01:53Very exciting weekend and we appreciate it.
01:55Thank you so much.
01:56Appreciate you.
01:56Congrats, Jared.
01:57So happy for you.
01:58Are you going to do a lasso on the stage when you get inducted on Saturday?
02:02Maybe, but I don't know if my old back will be able to get me back up on the stage.
02:06That's the problem.
02:06You got to bring it out for us.
02:07One more time, I'm going to try to do it.
02:09Bring it out for us.
02:09Just someone help me if I can't get back up.
02:11Understood.
02:12Congrats, man.
02:13I'm just saying the mullet and the mustache together would have gotten my vote.
02:17Just so you know.
02:1857-yard kick.
02:19Well, we were talking Harold Lee.
02:21He shared with us that he came as a kid.
02:23His dad, Jack, who's here tonight, brought John and Jim over to see the Hall of Fame when
02:29Jack was coaching college football in the state of Ohio.
02:32What a first half it's been for Trey Lance, handing it off here with a minute to go in this
02:37first half in a run with Vidal.
02:41Gain of five.
02:42We'll see if they're going to jump on the ball here or huddle up.
02:47No huddle.
02:48I would say they're going to come out of this first half pretty happy.
02:52Now, granted, they did have a few more starters in there, but what put it over the top really was
02:59the play of Trey Lance, no question.
03:01He was tremendous.
03:03But defensively made some plays back there too.
03:05Tony Jefferson with the interception.
03:07Nico Reed with a huge play to get this game started.
03:10So both sides of the ball, very good.
03:13Naeem Miller-Hines with the carry that's going to bring this first half, in all likelihood,
03:19to a close as the clock runs down.
03:26Tackle made by the Lions' Ahmed Hassanin, who is a player out of Boise State, who they're hoping
03:32to see a lot of sixth-round pick.
03:33Of course, the Lions looking for somebody opposite Aiden Hutchinson and some depth on that defensive
03:38end spot.
03:39He would hit the half, 21 to 7.
03:44Chargers get the ball to get the ball.
03:47Jake Bates will kick it off for Detroit.
03:52And Naeem Miller-Hines adding the Miller to his jersey.
03:56He always wanted that, but said he was never asked.
03:58He's got a couple of stops before.
04:01They asked him here.
04:02That's what the jersey says.
04:05And he is back.
04:07And running effectively.
04:09Meek's going to take him to the sideline at the 43-yard line.
04:14And on the way out after halftime, Melissa spoke with Jim Harbaugh.
04:20Jim, you have a battle for your backup quarterback position.
04:22How would you evaluate Trey Lance in that first half?
04:24I mean, it's just great seeing everybody play.
04:27Get live action, you know, especially at the quarterback position.
04:30Trey's doing a heck of a job, and he's going to start this drive as well.
04:33A couple of big plays on defense, two interceptions.
04:36Yeah.
04:36What do you want to see in the second half?
04:37I mean, I love seeing it.
04:39Nico Reed's a great story.
04:40He's played great, jumped that ball.
04:42I mean, there's so many ascending players.
04:45He was one of them that we were just fired up to watch in game action.
04:48So, yeah, just keep having at it.
04:50Keep playing.
04:50I mean, tell these guys, I mean, if they're making a mistake,
04:53you know, they're going to get absolution if they're doing it at full speed.
04:57Thanks, Jim.
04:58Thanks.
04:59And at full speed is Jarrett Patterson around the edge for a big run.
05:04However, a penalty marker is down.
05:07Might erase this 30-yard gain for Patterson.
05:12Bill Finnevich.
05:13Illegal shift.
05:15Offense.
05:15Number 87, number 44.
05:18We're moving simultaneously.
05:19Five-yard penalty.
05:20Your perk first down.
05:23All right.
05:23I don't care about the penalty on that play.
05:25Watch what we see here.
05:26Trey Lance with this read option play.
05:29And it's going to freeze the linebacker to that side, I think,
05:33over in here somewhere.
05:35And just lock him in and help create that running lane right there.
05:40You can see as he scoots out that way, it draws a bit of a crowd
05:44and now creates a seam the other way.
05:46So one of the things we just haven't seen from Greg Roman yet
05:50is they're flashing it a little bit.
05:53But you know, with all of his skills,
05:56that should Trey Lance end up in a football game,
05:58we're going to see some of that.
06:00Scanning here, taking off is Lance.
06:03It gets down at the 43-yard line
06:05as the Lions defense converges on him.
06:08Greg Roman's so fascinating.
06:09So many different places.
06:11So much offense over the years.
06:12Obviously, it'll be Justin Herbert in charge.
06:14But there's imagination and talent.
06:16And Greg Roman, look out.
06:18Yeah, you know, and you've got Colin Kaepernick.
06:21They go to the Super Bowl with Jim Harbaugh, Greg Roman, Colin Kaepernick.
06:25And then, of course, he was the coach for Lamar Jackson.
06:28And Lamar Jackson's MVP plays absolutely great.
06:31And so when I heard that Trey Lance was coming to the Chargers,
06:35just imagine what might be.
06:39Flushed and throws to Vidal there.
06:41Brought down by Anthony Pittman in the open field.
06:44And Trey Lance really has shown such improvement
06:49over what I've seen in the past.
06:51And in particular, when we asked him,
06:53what are you looking to improve?
06:54He said these touch passes.
06:56We saw it right off the bat.
06:58Then we saw it on the touchdown pass up over the top.
07:01Then on the deep ball, drop it in over the defender.
07:05Again, and then zip one in there for the touchdown
07:08against the all-out blitz that he saw.
07:11Good read, good throw.
07:13Tremendous half for Trey Lance.
07:1613-17, twisting four-man rush up front.
07:19Check it down, and Patterson gets it to the 48-yard line.
07:24About five shy of the first half.
07:25Now, he was in the Hall of Fame today as the Chargers toured.
07:29We're not putting him in the Hall of Fame with the first half.
07:31But it's nice to see the number three overall pick talent out here on the field.
07:36A Hall of Fame Hall of Famer is what we would call that, yeah.
07:39But it's so important, I think, more than anything, is to continue momentum, right?
07:47Yes.
07:47If a player like that with his skill set, and we were talking about it in the pregame warm-ups,
07:52I'm going, wow, I didn't know he could throw the ball like that.
07:55And so he had the little bit of sizzle.
07:58We've seen his ability to run.
08:00And now the touch pass is just layered on top of it.
08:03A lot of good stuff.
08:04That is exactly what the Chargers' J.K. Scott can do.
08:11Put a ball high up there, a lot of hang time.
08:14Pressure on the young returner, Jacoby Keeney James, could not bring it down.
08:21And covered by the Chargers at the five.
08:26Always thought, Mike, that was the hardest thing I did.
08:28I think I played every position in football.
08:31I honestly do.
08:31I started as an offensive lineman, a defensive lineman in peewee football.
08:36But catching punts with people all around you, and that ball spinning and blowing,
08:41and I thought it was the hardest thing I did in any sport.
08:45And now you've got these punters here at this level, the best of the best.
08:49You know the pressure is on.
08:50You've got to catch it.
08:51It's your first chance in the NFL.
08:53It's another turnover, short field to the Lions.
08:57And Lance rolls it, throws to the back of the end zone.
09:00And it's incomplete as he tried to connect with Dez Fitzpatrick.
09:05But in reality, that was a perfect throw.
09:08Because when he reared back to throw that one, I was thinking,
09:13this better be good.
09:15And he at least put it in a spot where his guy had a chance.
09:18You saw him get his feet down.
09:20If he makes that catch, it's a touchdown.
09:22So if he misses it, no big deal.
09:25It was just first down.
09:26But at least he gave him a chance.
09:30Right with Patterson.
09:33He's brought back down after a gain of a yard.
09:36Keith Cooper tackles for the Lions.
09:39He has flashed a bit in the early going, undrafted rookie out of Houston.
09:46So I know we're not going to see the stuff, right?
09:49We're not going to see any magic out of this play call.
09:52But I would like to see what's on the playlist moving forward for Trey Lance
09:57for a third down and goal from the five-yard line.
10:01You might see down here 86 Gadsden, the tight end,
10:04who's got some red zone skills.
10:05Just flip sides right to left.
10:10He seems staying to block his last throws to the pylon.
10:14Incomplete to Fitzpatrick.
10:16Is that another, that was a good throw?
10:18Uh, okay.
10:20Okay, not so much.
10:22I mean, that's one you want out quickly with some height on it.
10:25Give him a chance.
10:25I mean, look how big his receiver is out there.
10:28Just give him a chance.
10:29Throw it up in the air.
10:30But just absolutely no chance at all on that one.
10:35So, no holes.
10:37And he'll bring him back out.
10:40He'll stop casting the bust to go into the hall across the street.
10:46Cameron Dicker, one off the upright earlier from 23.
10:50Takes the Chargers to 24 points.
10:53Turnover by the Lions.
10:56Their fourth leads to more points for the Chargers.
11:01Right off the highway here and beautiful part of Ohio.
11:05Canton, Ohio, where the league got its formation back in 1920.
11:11Line drive kick.
11:12Three, four deep in the end zone.
11:14Touch back.
11:15Well, Lions fans haven't had much to smile about.
11:17But, Chris, we can change that.
11:19We can put Aiden Hudson on the camera.
11:21There is the Lions defensive star who is joining us.
11:24Hutch being down there, being healthy and ready to go.
11:28How much are you salivating to get back on the field and hit somebody?
11:31Oh, man, you have no idea, man.
11:33It's been a long time without football in my life.
11:37And camp's been fun so far.
11:39But I'm just, I can't wait for that week one in Lambeau.
11:43You know, it's going to be electric, man.
11:45I've been, it's been a long, it's been a long offseason.
11:48So, I'm ready to jump back into football.
11:51The broken leg against Dallas last year.
11:53Update everyone on how you're feeling and what it's felt like as people say you are dominating in camp.
11:59Feeling great, man.
12:00I'm completely healthy.
12:01Really, the injury is an afterthought now.
12:04So, I just want, hope that once I start playing, people will stop asking me and stop thinking about that injury.
12:10You know, so it's, I've moved on and I can't wait till people see me on TV again playing football
12:17and they can also move on as well.
12:18So, Hendon Hooker now in at quarterback, two-yard game, Chris.
12:21Have you ever had a start like that to a football season?
12:25Because it was so electric and with what the offense was doing, what you were doing on the defensive side,
12:32it was like just pencil the Lions into the Super Bowl here at this point and then it happened.
12:38And can you take us through the emotions of having that kind of start and then having to deal with the injury that you got?
12:46Yeah, you know, it's, I feel like my first few years in the league, I had, I started to get hot at the end of the season,
12:54you know, and then year three or, yeah, year three, I was coming in and had that electric start that I had.
13:00And, you know, getting taken out of that season, that 15-win season, it's like, it was hard.
13:06It was hard watching those games because you know mentally I'm all the way here, but you're on the sideline, you know, limited physically.
13:14So, I'm just so happy it's over with and it honestly feels like a fever dream looking back on those times rehabbing.
13:21So, yeah, it's, we're looking forward to 2025, a clean slate, baby.
13:27Hey, so many times when you get good interior pressure, it gives you a chance.
13:33Of course, the Lee McNeil has been your friend for a long time.
13:36And now you've got Tyleek Williams, who is the top draft pick from this year.
13:41Tell us what you see from him because if that defensive line that was so decimated adds yet another weapon,
13:48you guys could be really something up front this year.
13:51Well, I'll tell you what, even in camp, I look around at our defense and, you know, you have that confidence and you're like,
13:57I think we could be special this year, you know, as long as we all stay healthy and we all stay on this field.
14:03And Tyleek's been great, you know, he's, he's really, he's got all the tools, you know,
14:08and it's just, as a rookie, you try to expedite their journey and try to get them going as fast as they can.
14:15And, you know, that's, that's kind of what I'm trying to do right now is, you know, also,
14:20I know that he's kind of got that tunnel vision rookie, but I'm also trying to lift him up and, you know,
14:25get him going as soon as we can as we, before we play the Packers.
14:29Hutch, we have a punt coming up here.
14:31So quick in 15 seconds, opposite side of the field guy, you played college football for Jim Harbaugh.
14:36What was it like to have him and then now have Dan Campbell back to back as your head coaches?
14:41I'll tell you what, I probably had some of the two most polarizing coaches in college football in the NFL.
14:47So it's, it's been a pleasure.
14:49I'll tell you that it's a lot of passion from Jim and Dan.
14:53And, you know, we, all three of us, we all love the game of football and that's what, that's what we all share.
14:58Can't wait to see you back on the field, Hutch.
15:00Stay healthy, all the best.
15:01Appreciate it.
15:02And Hutchinson, Detroit Lions defensive lineman, punt down to the 23 yard line.
15:08There's a flag down right by the bench area that I don't think the officials have seen.
15:12There you go.
15:13Kicking team number 19 went out of bounds his first to touch.
15:17Five yard penalty from the end of the kick.
15:19First down, timeout.
15:20So the Chargers will take over at the 28th after Hendon Hooker's short drive 24-7 L.A.
15:27here in Canton, Ohio.
15:28Dramatic and emotional moment that happens for all the players here on Saturday.
15:33Gold jacket ceremony comes up tomorrow.
15:37There's a parade in the induction on Saturday morning here in Canton, Ohio.
15:42At Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
15:46Run by Miller Hines and he is taken down with a message.
15:55He's hit.
15:59Say, I'm sure if it was Josh Harris or it was Harris.
16:02No, I was right.
16:04I should have held up the first time.
16:06Coming out of the back end.
16:08That is the kind of effort we get used to seeing in the second half of the Hall of Fame games.
16:14You have people playing in the game right now that may never play an actual down in the National Football League.
16:20But right now they've got NFL uniforms on and you will see wild effort in this half.
16:25It was Ian Keneally who made the play at a Grand Valley State.
16:29That's a guy who the Lions signed at their local pro day.
16:34And they found him and that's his first chance as Miller Hines carries there.
16:38I'm so glad you said that Chris because we talk about the players who aren't in the guys like Trey Lance.
16:43For a bunch of the players on the field tonight was the first time they realized the dream.
16:48They put on an NFL uniform for a game and to do it here in the birthplace of the league in camp.
16:53And probably mom and dad sitting in the stands taking pictures and the photos of down in these uniforms live on those walls.
17:00For an inside run.
17:06You mentioned earlier the fullbacks that they have.
17:09Tucker Fisk is a tight end who plays some fullback.
17:11And then there's Scott Matlock.
17:13And his story is great because he shows up on offense.
17:17He shows up on defense.
17:18Incredibly valuable tool on this team.
17:20All over the place and he's one of those really physical as they call them primeval kind of guys on this offense.
17:29Tucker Fisk, Scott Matlock, the two guys that like they had in Baltimore, right?
17:34They just have hammers.
17:35They have guards back in the backfield that are lead blockers and pass protectors.
17:40And they are going to protect their quarterback first and foremost here for the charge.
17:45That was left side for a shot.
17:49Haskins with a run to the 47-yard line.
17:53Haskins in his fourth year out of Michigan.
17:56He was with Harbaugh and the Wolverines for four years.
18:01Can I tell you how much I love what Jim Harbaugh is doing right now?
18:06Harbaugh would have had any other coach would have taken the first half he got out of Trey Lance.
18:12Yeah, right.
18:12And taken him out and let him have his moment, his perfect half.
18:16It was tremendous.
18:17Everybody's impressed.
18:19And what did he do?
18:20He went in and he said, oh, you think that was good?
18:22Let's see him do it again.
18:24And he does here on the run, completing the pass to Haskins into Lions territory at the 46-yard line.
18:30And that will be a first down.
18:32As we mentioned earlier in the first half, Taylor Heineke, the veteran, is the other guy
18:36in the battle for the backup job.
18:38But we're seeing a Trey Lance now that is looking poised, is looking confident,
18:47is making throws that we had not seen him make.
18:50And in fairness to him, he didn't play a lot of football in college.
18:54It was COVID years.
18:56There were issues.
18:57He didn't really get to play much in the NFL.
18:59And now he's finally 25.
19:01And as he put it, you know, it's the first time I've come to camp and I'm not the young guy anymore.
19:06Right?
19:06I'm just another football player, which I think has allowed him to focus a little bit more
19:12on what he needs to improve.
19:14And we've seen it.
19:17Haskins, another run there.
19:18He'll check out.
19:19Lance told us, my brain was spinning after being picked in San Francisco,
19:26coming out of school, the COVID year you talked about.
19:28Now that he's been in three offenses, it feels like he is finally in a place where he's ready
19:34for those talents to meet when he's learned about playing the quarterback position.
19:38Kamani Vidal.
19:40No game on that one.
19:41And you think about the San Francisco experience.
19:44You're going to get a lot of offense out of Kyle Shanahan.
19:46And when you go to Dallas, what are you going to get out of Mike McCarthy?
19:49Fundamentals.
19:50Quarterback school right from the beginning.
19:52So the people he's been around really give him a chance to be a good quarterback.
19:56Shanahan, McCarthy, and now Harbaugh.
19:59Yeah.
19:59And the other thing he said, a lot of people have said a lot of stuff about me,
20:04and I've kept all the receipts.
20:07That's a phrase I like.
20:08We're hearing a little bit more, but he kept a lot of receipts.
20:12Vidal turns the corner.
20:14He's got some space to run outside the numbers.
20:1823-yard line.
20:20The first down for Vidal.
20:22Mark with 22.
20:25All right, so we've got that same read option going to come out here now
20:28and watch the end of the line of scrimmage end up freezing
20:33because they've got to come in here and make sure he doesn't get there
20:37and now get outside.
20:38So you don't always have to run it, but you have to at least present it as a threat.
20:44And that's what they've done so far in this one.
20:46It's a good day caught there, not setting the edge.
20:52A term you probably haven't heard in six months.
20:57Lance bobbled that snap, got it back, got it off in time for the receiver.
21:02Jalen Johnson takes it very close to the first down, right around the 12-yard line.
21:09The snap was snapped to the left a little bit and just keeping his poise.
21:15And so many times, Mike, for these young quarterbacks,
21:18it's a matter of you can't kind of know where everybody is
21:23because sometimes you get a bad snap and it's off to the side
21:25and your eyes are going to come down and you've got to catch the ball.
21:28But then his eyes came up and he knew exactly where the receiver was,
21:33got it to him quickly, avoided any pressure.
21:40He's going to pull that, keep it, and get himself three yards with his feet.
21:45Out of bounds at the nine-yard line.
21:46One-year deal that Lance signed here for two million dollars.
21:53So in terms of getting a backup quarterback or third, depending how it ends up,
21:58it's in that right price point.
22:00And obviously the talent to be taken, number three overall,
22:04you know the tools are there.
22:05And I think the Chargers are loving what they see.
22:07And there is Taylor Heineken, the veteran, in a playoff game with Washington.
22:12And Justin Herbert is the guy with the big numbers,
22:16trying to find that first playoff win and get these Chargers back to the playoffs this year.
22:22Second and seven.
22:23He'll try to throw for the quarter incomplete.
22:27Jaquaint Jackson, the intended receiver.
22:30Close. That was a close one.
22:37Maybe a little more height on the ball.
22:40This is, it's so hard to tell because all these receivers today, they do,
22:44some of them take three, four seconds almost at the line of scrimmage to set it up.
22:50And the quarterback has to get it out of his hand at some point.
22:54And so when does he release?
22:56When does he go downfield?
22:58It takes a lot of work to get that kind of timing down.
23:04Third and seven.
23:06Try one more for the end zone.
23:09Out of bounds and then go, called the touchdown.
23:11Wait a minute.
23:12I don't know.
23:14Course outs.
23:18Are no longer a rule.
23:21It's brought down for the touchdown as called by Delvon Campbell.
23:25He has zero feet down.
23:29Yeah.
23:29Because the front foot even, because it goes toe heel.
23:34Tell them all about it.
23:35No, no.
23:35You're going to.
23:36If you.
23:36You got down.
23:37If you want to go there's a crap with a jersey there too.
23:39But.
23:40After replay review.
23:43The ruling on the field is an incomplete pass.
23:45Work down.
23:46We can't go toe heel heel toe in July.
23:53It's a mid-August kind of thing.
23:55But whatever we do is the first time it's ever been done in July.
23:58The pass quickly spun to incomplete.
24:05And Cameron Dicker will come on to try a 27 yard.
24:15Same battery for both teams.
24:17Punter, kicker and snapper.
24:19Josh Harris.
24:20Good snapper for the Chargers.
24:22Sends it back.
24:23And field goal number two.
24:26It's been a good night for Trey Lance and the Chargers.
24:31Lions have given it two and four times on turnovers.
24:34They haven't turned it over.
24:36Cashing them in.
24:3727-7.
24:39LA.
24:40Hall of Fame.
24:42That all proceeds with Philadelphia.
24:43Six Pro Bowls and 54 career interceptions.
24:48Part of his Hall of Fame resume.
24:50We'll visit with Eric momentarily.
24:52Keeney James on the kick return here.
24:54Only gets to the 21.
24:56And here is Melissa.
24:58Thanks, Mike.
24:58Eric Allen, Hall of Famer.
25:01How does that sound to you?
25:02That's a great ring, right?
25:03That's a great ring.
25:04Just kind of just ends a great playing career for me.
25:09I enjoy playing football.
25:11I love the game.
25:11And to be able to end it with one of my favorite teams,
25:14the Raiders and the iconic man Al Davis
25:17was just very fitting.
25:19You told me that the late Reggie White
25:21was a big mentor for you.
25:22Can you just talk about your relationship
25:24and the impact it had?
25:25Oh, everybody kind of understands
25:26what he meant to the game of football.
25:28But off the field, I think Reggie was
25:30one of the best ever to really take his celebrity
25:33and go to the community.
25:35And it doesn't matter what community he was in.
25:37He was always a part of it.
25:38What makes it very special, you know?
25:40You can always reach out and touch him.
25:41I thought that was very important.
25:43And more importantly, that his love and care
25:47for the folks who were downtrodden was very important.
25:51You told me that the defining play of your career
25:54was the last play of the 1992 regular season
25:59against Washington.
26:00Yeah.
26:00Why?
26:01We have that play.
26:02Yeah.
26:02It's going to come after this play,
26:03but just talk us through it.
26:04Yeah, because obviously, you know,
26:07the game is about the physical presence
26:09and the measurables, but I had to prepare myself
26:13and to go away, take a go away from my guy.
26:15My guy was in the end zone wide open.
26:17So after preparing and studying that
26:20and understanding the situation,
26:22I left my guy knowing that they were going to try and,
26:25you know, put their better receiver
26:27on one of our number two or three receivers, or DBs.
26:30So I left my guy and go and make the play
26:32at the end of the game.
26:33So if Mark Griffin pulls that ball down
26:35and throws the ball to my guy, I'm toast.
26:38But it was just a belief of the preparation
26:41of the film study and kind of understanding the situation
26:44and really believing that your preparation
26:46gets repaired for big moments like that.
26:49And it clinched you a spot in the playoffs as well.
26:51It sure did.
26:52Yeah, it sure did.
26:53That's pretty exciting.
26:54Now, I know your family is all here.
26:56Your son, Austin, is introducing you at the ceremony,
26:59the induction ceremony on Saturday.
27:01How special is it to share all of this with them?
27:04Yeah, you know, I think Austin's going
27:06to kind of represent all the family, right,
27:08and being there to present the trophy with me.
27:10But he's been there from day one, you know,
27:13and it's a funny picture of me, him,
27:15and Sterling Sharp at like a Pro Bowl like in 1995
27:18or something like that.
27:19So it's just special to have him kind of represent the family.
27:24They've given me so much support throughout my career
27:26and post-career, and just he's a great guy,
27:31and he's going to do a great job representing the family.
27:33Well, congratulations.
27:34Enjoy every moment.
27:35Yes, I have.
27:36Appreciate it.
27:37Mike.
27:38Great to see Eric Gowen going in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Chris.
27:41Yeah, four pick sixes when he was with the 93 Eagles,
27:45and you go, that'll never be broken, right?
27:48And then Deron Bland comes along and 23 with Dallas and ends up with five.
27:53But he was a guy that, sort of like Deion Sanders, right?
27:57I mean, once he got the ball in his hands,
27:59they were playing offense at that point, you could see guys turn and block
28:03and try and help him because he was so athletic and so good.
28:07Jabari Small with the carry there.
28:10He's carried most of this third quarter for Detroit,
28:13and the Lions have a player who is shaken up.
28:17It's Kenny Yeboah, former New York Jet.
28:20The Lions added to their roster this year, and it's the first injury we have seen
28:27here in this game.
28:29Fortunate that it's been healthy most of the way.
28:31They'll tend to Yeboah as we have the break between and not be a real award until
28:37that man gets it, and that man is right between us.
28:40The great Brent Musburger, congratulations, pal.
28:43Mike, thank you.
28:44Thank you so much.
28:46Chris, great to be with you.
28:48You know, I covered this rascal.
28:49He was a pretty good receiver.
28:50He was, right?
28:52I can remember as a kid, now I don't want to date you too much,
28:57but waking up and they had the college football show,
29:00first they had the University of Florida show, then the college football show,
29:03and then Brent comes on with his band of hooligans in there.
29:07And I think this guy and that group kind of set the table for the Terry Bradshaw's,
29:13and what they do at Fox, and the entertainment.
29:16Like, you had a way of blending the news and making it fun.
29:21Yeah, you know, we really did.
29:22But listen, I had a great team.
29:24You can't do anything in broadcasting without a good team, okay?
29:28Right.
29:29Phyllis George, she was working with me the first year,
29:32and Irv Cross, who I went to Northwestern with, okay?
29:34So it was just the three of us that first year, and we got along so very, very well.
29:41And then the next year, Bob Russell decided, let's put the gambler on there,
29:45the Greek, the rascal, Jimmy, okay?
29:48So Pete Rozelle, we have this meeting, and some of these people have heard this story.
29:53We tell anecdotes for 30 minutes, and then finally Pete said,
29:56gentlemen, I'd like to ask you a favor on the NFL today.
29:59Please don't use minus three, plus seven, minus ten.
30:05And I'm going back, and I said, that's the meaning of gambling on football.
30:08What do we do?
30:10And the Greek comes up with the checkboard.
30:11The checkboard, right, and the intangibles.
30:13It's always looking to see which team got the intangibles, right?
30:16So here we are on a Thursday night in July.
30:19How disappointed are you guys in the Lions?
30:21What, they turn it over four times?
30:23Holy Toledo.
30:24Come on, you grew up a Lion fan.
30:25I didn't grow up, I lived there now, and I get to see it first.
30:28And you took the under on the Lions, that's what you're saying.
30:31I have the Lions in the over, and that doesn't work, you know?
30:36Did you see Brent on the football line in America on the pregame?
30:39Maria Taylor had him throw at the break, and he said,
30:41oh, it's going to be a great game, and all that.
30:43And by the way, the Lions are favored by one.
30:44Ah, there we go.
30:45When we talk the word rascal, the all-time rascal right here.
30:49I tell you, Mike, it was unbelievable.
30:51Every time we'd get to the NFC Championship, because we did the NFC,
30:56I'd make sure that the Greek got me to spread for the Super Bowl.
30:59And you would say it first.
31:00I'd put it on.
31:00You'd be the first guy to always say it.
31:01Say it on the air, and I knew I was going to be in trouble Monday.
31:05And you're getting us in trouble right now.
31:06No, I'm not.
31:07I'm just saying we get the Hall of Fame.
31:08In all seriousness, Brent, the rise of the National Football League.
31:12Unbelievable.
31:13You saw it, you were there, and we even go back to the days before you were in TV, radio,
31:20back to your print days.
31:21And you were there when Joe Namath made the guarantee poolside Super Bowl III.
31:25We went to see a coach up at the hotel.
31:29They were living in Fort Lauderdale.
31:31And the bellman was about half a dozen of us, writers from Cleveland, Detroit, New York.
31:37He said, well, Joe Namath out at poolside.
31:39I said, what?
31:40So, boom.
31:41We walk out to the pool, and there he is, signing autographs, talking to fans.
31:44Well, you can't get within two blocks of anybody in the Super Bowl right now.
31:49Even your day in Harniak, when the Bengals were in there, I remember we had trouble.
31:56This is a great story.
31:58Anything going on important here?
32:00Hooker had a game.
32:00No, there's a stop-stop fourth.
32:02You are looking live at the big house.
32:04You'll be doing Saturday night primetime.
32:07The voice of the great Brent Musburger, 50 years in TV and radio,
32:13being honored with the Pete Rozelle Award this Hall of Fame weekend.
32:18Brent's going to tell you the story of one of the great moments in the NFL,
32:21that he was right there poolside momentarily.
32:23New quarterback DJ Uyunglele for the Chargers.
32:27And penalty marker comes down as he gives it to Patterson for a couple of yards.
32:31All right, Brent, as we sort this out, tell us the story, Bill Vinovich.
32:35Face mask, office number 34, 15-yard penalty, repeat first down.
32:41Tell us the name of Garrett T's story.
32:43So we go out to poolside, and you saw the fans get an autograph,
32:47and there was a half dozen of us there.
32:50And it was very matter-of-fact.
32:53I want you to know, when he said it, it became in the newspapers the next day and over the weekend,
33:00you know, this loud statement headline.
33:02That's not what he said.
33:03He was more matter-of-fact, but he did look at us and say,
33:08we're going to win the game.
33:10Pause, pause, I guarantee it.
33:12Okay, now, okay, so we were kind of blown away by the fact that we were poolside with Joe Namath,
33:18okay, two days before the game.
33:20I mean, I, um, and I will tell you, since the Greek and the odds man, my friends in the desert,
33:26had made the Colts an 18-point favorite, I will tell you that I think that that game did more to bring
33:32everybody together for the merger than any single game.
33:36I don't know what he said.
33:37Yeah, no question, but did you know, did you have any idea how iconic that moment was when you were a part of it?
33:44No, not really.
33:45Of course, I was kind of blown away.
33:48I covered Super Bowl I as a newspaper man.
33:52And by the way, speaking of my old friend Pete Purcell, I still have two tickets to Super Bowl I in a box in Montana
33:59that I couldn't give away.
34:01I think they were $25 apiece.
34:03I'll see them.
34:04I mean, now they're scalping them.
34:05Never mind.
34:09You know what, since you're about to get us in trouble again,
34:11I'm going to go to a couple of guys who kept you out of trouble.
34:13Melissa has got a couple of Brent's former partners.
34:17Sure do.
34:17They're all smiles down here.
34:19We have Dan Fouts and Coach Dick Vermeule, and you know Brent very well.
34:24Oh, yeah, I know him where.
34:25First of all, how deserving is he of this honor?
34:29Well, I think if you put his body of work as a broadcaster,
34:33it probably has no equal, really.
34:35Yeah, he was spectacular in whatever he did, and he could do it so spontaneously.
34:40You could call him up five minutes for a dogfight, and he could do a beautiful broadcast.
34:44He could. He was spectacular.
34:46And Dan, I want to get your best Brent story.
34:49Well, I know I speak for millions of Brent fans around the world,
34:53and of course to the famous movie, The Waterboy, which we're still waiting for
34:58our nomination for the Oscar. When I say the immortal words of, shut up, Brent.
35:07Bouncy.
35:07That's it.
35:08Bouncy, the best.
35:09All right, listen, I got to follow up my man, Bouncy.
35:12Yes, go ahead.
35:12Good. We were working with Adam Sandler at Waterboy, and I asked for a script,
35:18and he said, no, you and Dan just ad lib like you do a football game.
35:22So Brent got carried away like he does, and I'm rambling off, and Fouts goes,
35:26shut up, Brent.
35:27And I figured that's on the cutting room.
35:29It winds up in the movie, and now my wife says it all the time.
35:32Marlene says, shut up, Brent.
35:36Got me in deep trouble, I'll tell you.
35:39That's a touch back here.
35:40Brent, it's an honor to be sitting next to you in the booth.
35:43You are an inspiration for so many of us.
35:45I'm glad you get this honor.
35:46Congratulations.
35:47Thank you so much.
35:48It's great to be with you.
35:49Just love being with you too.
35:50And your partners there, Mr. Ramil, Mr. Fouts, the Gold Jack 2027.
35:54That announced today.
35:56Looking forward to that.
35:58Down the road.
36:0027-7.
36:01Chargers on top.
36:02Lions have turned it over four times.
36:04Coupled by Kyle Allen, the quarterback, with their interceptions.
36:08Hendon Hooker has been in here for the last couple of drives.
36:13A couple of completions in his four attempts.
36:15A lot of handoffs to Jabari Small.
36:17Three to the 26 with the ball.
36:19Seemed to come out, able to fight it away from Eric Rodgers.
36:24And the Lions will keep it.
36:26Chris, let's dive in here on Hendon Hooker.
36:29Terrific career at first Virginia Tech, then Tennessee.
36:32Tears his ACL.
36:33Lions take a bit of a surprise in the third round.
36:36Has not played much in what is now his third season.
36:39Yeah, he was telling us that in college he played about 10% of his snaps under center.
36:47High school about 30%.
36:49But it's such a big part of the Detroit Lions offense because of the way they run the football.
36:55Right? I mean, we've seen him throw it quite a bit out here.
36:58But if the Detroit Lions are going to be what we're used to with Ben Johnson and this offense,
37:04it is all going to start with the running game.
37:06So you get your quarterback under center.
37:09Many more options for Jared Goff and company to be able to run all the plays
37:13that they've been running.
37:14And it's just a question, honestly, can Hendon Hooker fit into that?
37:20You know, we talked about it a little bit earlier.
37:23But if you can imagine all four wide receivers split on the field as far out as they could possibly be.
37:30As he scrambles here, takes off, bumped out of bounds at the 34-yard line.
37:37As he continues to try to read it and look for the throw and then take off.
37:40And that's right, and that's what he did in college.
37:43He would see the receivers and then throw it.
37:46And this offense, a lot of option routes, different things where the timing has to be,
37:51the ball has to be thrown before the break is actually made.
37:55And when you have that kind of offense, it's different.
37:59And so how many reps can he get in the preseason here to try and just catch him up to that system?
38:08Small on the ground.
38:11Minimal game.
38:13Hooker was the number two quarterback last year.
38:15And then when the Lions got to the playoffs, Teddy Bridgewater,
38:18who was coaching down in South Florida in high school football, came up on the roster at the end.
38:23And he was the backup quarterback.
38:25It actually came in when Goff got injured in the playoff loss to Washington at Ford Field.
38:30So the story here is now year three, second full year after he rehabbed the injury.
38:35Can Hooker show the development to be a solid number two behind Goff?
38:39He is engulfed here and will be sacked.
38:43Loss of a couple of yards on that one.
38:45Terat Edwards in there along with Caleb Murphy.
38:49Yeah, in a perfect world as Hooker dips underneath the defender here,
38:54he would straighten back up and see if he could make a throw.
38:56You could see never really got a chance to get reset and make that throw.
39:01But one of the things that I'm excited about with this Detroit Lions offense,
39:05they have a lot of great stuff anyway, is the fact that we now know that Jameer Gibbs
39:10is going to be playing a lot at the same time as David Montgomery.
39:14A season ago, they had 11 snaps together on the field at the same time.
39:19So you're talking about a lot more offense out there to go along with Avinroth, St. Brown,
39:25and all the different people that they've got, Sam Laporta, on and on and on.
39:31So this is an offense that I think has a chance to be even better if that offensive line is good.
39:37Yeah, it's such a key for them with those changes on the inside.
39:41Punt out of bounds. Chargers take over at the 28th.
39:44Premier League back live on NBC USA streaming on Peacock.
39:47Great opening weekend.
39:48The defending champs Liverpool and Bournemouth USA on the 15th and on the 17th.
39:53Man United taking on their rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford.
39:57NBC and Peacock.
40:00Rebecca Lowe and the team as the pre-season tour of America has rolled on.
40:05The summer tour of Premier League.
40:07Chicago earlier this week.
40:08Matter of fact, they're at the Bears camp at Howard Hall.
40:10Manchester United on Wednesday.
40:14Crisscross of football and football.
40:17Miller Hines to pitch to the 35-yard line.
40:20Naheem is pushed out of bounds.
40:22Got the toss from DJ Uwe Anglele who is in at quarterback.
40:26It's like a Southwest Airlines boarding card.
40:29Florida State, Clemson, Oregon State.
40:32Three connections to get him through college.
40:34When he was at Clemson, we saw him in a game of all games.
40:38A big battle with number one Clemson at Notre Dame.
40:42He had a fabulous game filling in for Trevor Lawson.
40:44Chris, I remember walking out of that stadium that night with Tony Dungy thinking,
40:48this guy's can't miss prospect.
40:51Didn't go for him as well towards the end of college.
40:53And now here he is in the NFL with an opportunity to prove it on this Chargers roster.
40:58An inside run for Hassan Haskins who takes it to the 46 but flagged down.
41:08Offside.
41:09Defense number 53.
41:11Pedally declined.
41:11He jumped the play.
41:13First down.
41:14He's a massive guy.
41:16He really is.
41:17And when you watch him throw the ball on the field, it wasn't, it was every bit the velocity.
41:23I thought Trey Lance was a little bit crisper with the throws, a little more accurate.
41:29You mean pre-game tonight?
41:30Just pre-game tonight.
41:31Okay.
41:32But Uwe Anglele clearly has the physical skill set.
41:36I think the whole experience with Florida State was kind of tough.
41:40You know, he went from, you know, it looked like his career was really going to emerge when
41:44he was at Clemson and they were playing well and he was making big plays.
41:48So I think that, you know, one more time we're talking about can Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman
41:56get another young athletic quarterback ready.
42:00And I don't know if they can or not, but the odds are probably better with this team and this coaching
42:06staff because of their history of doing it than it would be with somebody else.
42:10Nice looking throw there.
42:11Brendan Rice.
42:13Oh, he can sizzle it.
42:14I mean, he can throw it.
42:17I mean, these quarterbacks now are so big.
42:20When you go down on the field and you look at them and they're just the presence of those guys.
42:26I guess you have to be to survive in this league anymore.
42:296-4, 252.
42:30And this is a big cruising back as well in Haskins.
42:35Taking it to the 32-yard line.
42:41Haskins was sort of the fourth running back a season ago.
42:45135 snaps at running back and you get desperate.
42:49You know, as a runner and in preseason, you're the fourth running back.
42:54That means you're maybe in, you're maybe out.
42:57And so you're going to see some hard running out of these backs.
43:01Dan Jackson, the seventh-round pick out of Georgia, got run over by Haskins.
43:09Here he is again bouncing to the outside.
43:12Lions over there.
43:13So not a good showing with the turnover, short fields.
43:16The score looks a little bit different than maybe it would have if the Chargers had longer fields to go.
43:21But it will be something to build on for Kelvin Shepard, the new defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.
43:27Aaron Glenn, who was the defensive coordinator, is now the Jets head coach.
43:31And there is Shepard learning how to cover his mouth and call the plays now.
43:36I'm going to tell you, there's a couple of guys you get on the phone and get ready for these games and they kind of get you fired up.
43:44Kelvin Shepard's one of those guys.
43:45And he just, and he's so young.
43:48He's only, what, seven years removed from the field itself.
43:51Only four years in coaching.
43:53We're on the line with a shot.
43:55DiCaprio Boodle in coverage.
43:57The flags come down on the pass intended for Jalen Johnson.
44:04Yeah, Chris, he's 37 years old.
44:06Pass interference, defense number 17.
44:09Spot foul, automatic first down.
44:12But Aaron Glenn was the defensive coordinator.
44:16But already a couple of years ago, they started, you started seeing the writing on the wall.
44:21He was getting interviews.
44:22Eventually they knew he was going to get a head coaching job, and he did.
44:26But two years ago, Dan Campbell came to Aaron Glenn and said, look, we've got to start getting this guy,
44:33Kelvin Shepard, ready to be a coordinator.
44:36So they started putting more assignments on him.
44:38They let him get up in front of the team, do installs.
44:42And he was the guy that then was given the game plan on first and second down.
44:47And they just kept playing add-on because they knew eventually they were going to have to make a change.
44:53And Dan Campbell, I think, had already made up his mind who it was going to be.
44:55And he's going to be a good candidate.
44:56Vidal, the inside run to the two-yard line.
44:58That's such a good point about Aaron Glenn.
45:00He had 14 different interviews, a couple with the same team, different years, but 14 interviews.
45:06So Dan Campbell knew we had to find somebody.
45:08And it's so great when it's a guy in-house, so you can keep the continuity going.
45:12And Aaron Glenn had an interest in taking him as well, right?
45:17And no big surprise there.
45:20As a matter of fact, Ben Johnson talked about it.
45:22Well, that's a good sign that he's a good candidate, right?
45:24And both of those guys said, look, we both want you, but Dan's never letting you go.
45:30And that proved to be very true.
45:33Patterson in the back, tries to push it towards the goal line.
45:38And Jared Patterson looks to be shy for the moment.
45:42Yes, it's marked that way by the down judge coming in.
45:48Jared Patterson at the University of Buffalo, once had a 409-yard, eight-touchdown game on the ground.
45:57What do you think of this Lions defense this year?
45:59Obviously, we're not seeing any of this starters.
46:00Hutchinson coming back.
46:02What are the things that are top of mind for you with that group?
46:05Well, the biggest thing, I think, is that they're going to be better in the secondary.
46:09I thought they really came up short with injuries at the end of the season.
46:14They love DJ Reed.
46:16He's the one that they really went after.
46:20Vidal has pulled back.
46:23Combination of Keneally in there with Tyson Russell.
46:27A couple of undrafted free agents.
46:30It'll be fourth and goal.
46:32So, just so many injuries a season ago.
46:35And it was to key players.
46:37You know, we've already talked some about Aiden Hutchinson.
46:41But it was, you know, right down the list.
46:44It was some of their big star players.
46:47Carlton Davis ultimately out of that secondary.
46:50Enos Rickstraw, who was a high draft pick for them.
46:54And they ended up playing guys that weren't, they're not even on the roster now.
46:58They're not even here.
46:59And it just got to be too much in the playoffs.
47:03Running for the edge and getting in is Vidal just breaking the plane.
47:08As Jackson went over to try to make the tackle.
47:12And it's 33-7.
47:13With the Chargers on top.
47:20And I know in Detroit there's going to be a temptation to write about this game.
47:29And it's, you know, okay, it's not what they're used to.
47:32They're used to big wins going the other way.
47:35This game means nothing.
47:37I hate to say it that way.
47:38But it means something to the players.
47:40Right.
47:40But as far as evaluating what the Detroit Lions are going to be,
47:45these aren't the guys, right, that are going to be playing.
47:47So they played no starters on the defensive side.
47:50It was Ian Keneally over there trying to make the stop along with Anthony Pittman.
47:56Stick her on to add the extra point.
47:59Great night for the Chargers.
48:00So we go all the way to three and a half minutes left in the game.
48:02And you tell me that it doesn't matter.
48:05It matters to me.
48:06It matters to us.
48:06Okay, good.
48:07Thank you so much.
48:09With $26 million in the fight against breast cancer.
48:14Ohio legend, Lion legend.
48:17Stephanie was so special.
48:18She's a wonderful person.
48:19And Chris has continued to be so dedicated to that.
48:22Works in the Lions front office.
48:23Does a tremendous job.
48:25A fine gesture from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
48:28For one of the good people and a legend in these parts as well.
48:33Returned there by Jacoby Keeney James.
48:36Final couple of minutes to entertaining head coaches who we're seeing here tonight.
48:41Like Moses, I'm going to die leaning on my staff.
48:44I've mentioned this before.
48:45I do massive power workouts in the shower.
48:52We can't do the Ron Burgundy, you know.
48:53We can't just continue to read off the teleprompter.
48:56We've got to grow.
48:57So, he's the opposite of a house plant.
49:02I mean, he is pure corn.
49:05Those guys are pure tool for the writers who cover them on a regular basis.
49:10Jacob Saylor's the carry there.
49:12I mean, it's every day.
49:13They walk into the press room.
49:15You don't know what you're going to get.
49:16But you get something really good from both.
49:18Yeah, you have no idea.
49:19And I always think back to Dan Campbell and everybody who's poking fun about biting kneecaps and all that.
49:24That opening press conference.
49:25Yeah, yeah.
49:26But what we have seen out of this guy is an amazing job of not just coaching and X's and O's,
49:34but the way that he brings that team together.
49:38And now Jim Harbaugh is doing the exact same thing with this Chargers team.
49:43And we were sort of joking around with him.
49:44And you could see this game.
49:46It's not impossible that these two get back when we're still working in February.
49:52Hooker keeps it there for a couple of yards.
49:55It's a great study in coaching, right?
49:58Because these guys are both veteran NFL players.
50:02Former players don't always work as head coaches.
50:05But these guys have continued their player passion, and it bleeds all through the organization.
50:11There's no question that these guys, when they talk about their respective head coaches,
50:18there is just a real passion.
50:21And I think that the love that they have for the game itself bleeds over into that locker room.
50:28No doubt.
50:29And Dan Campbell made a really interesting comment to us.
50:32He said, you know, we can kind of work with anybody, any sort of personality, player type, body type, whatever.
50:40He said, but if you're not a worker, you're not a grinder, and you're not after it, it won't work here.
50:45That's right.
50:46We've got to get rid of it.
50:47You're so right.
50:48Watching his first NFL game tonight, we are so thrilled for Rob and Lindsey,
50:52two of the best people in the producer chair in this TV industry.
50:56And Bo, well, I guess you can say they produced a great kid there.
50:59I don't know whether to start with a stud or beautiful.
51:03It's like, you know, a little combination platter there.
51:07We will have Rob back with us to start our season, but we are so thrilled for Rob and Lindsey.
51:11That pass is taken away.
51:14Spectacular takeaway by Miles Purchase on the intended catch for Dominic Leffitt.
51:22And Purchase goes to the 35-yard line.
51:26A fifth turnover for the Lions on the night.
51:31What a play to put an exclamation point on this one.
51:34For the Chargers, the rookie free agent out of Iowa State.
51:40I don't think I've ever seen a play like that.
51:43I mean, it looked like it was a catch all the way,
51:46and the ball was just taken right out of his hands.
51:50Wow.
51:51A stunning, stunning interception by Miles Purchase.
51:56He ripped it right out of his arms, took it back.
52:03A nice return as well to the 35-yard line.
52:07Chargers will take a couple of knees here and wrap up this season.
52:12Well, as we were saying, we send Rob and Lindsey our best congratulations to Bo.
52:17Bo has not only great parents, but a terrific pair of sisters.
52:21And Audrey and Chloe are going to raise him right.
52:24Yeah, and Rob, time to go back to work now.
52:27Not yet.
52:27He gave a couple of weeks.
52:28But I can report.
52:29I have an update.
52:30Yeah.
52:30Bo has already been put to sleep by us.
52:34Bo did watch a little bit of the game tonight, and we put him to sleep.
52:38You know, I hate to say it, but I have probably been told a million times
52:42that I put people to sleep every single Sunday night down.
52:45Exactly.
52:45So you're welcome.
52:46Well, we're honored to do that again for everybody here this year.
52:49Give me a sentence or two here about what we saw tonight, Chris.
52:52Why don't we start with the Chargers and Trey Lance?
52:54I think Trey Lance really made a statement tonight,
52:58and then to come out in the second half and continue on.
53:01But just the technique and the poise and the ability to sort of put
53:06what was a bit of a slow start to his career behind him and play like that tonight,
53:12if this game meant anything to anybody, it was a statement that he made tonight.
53:17They'll continue their preseason against New Orleans, then the Rams and SoFi,
53:21and then at San Francisco.
53:23And do you want anybody in Detroit to not panic just yet?
53:27Don't panic.
53:28You have not seen any stars on a football field yet.
53:32The Lions preseason will continue in Atlanta,
53:37and then they have Miami and Houston at home,
53:39and they'll scrimmage with both of those teams before their games.
53:43A lot of respect.
53:44Good luck.
53:45Good luck.
53:48I'd love to hear those guys just talk for about 10 minutes.
53:50Just put them in a room and just talk ball and all that stuff.
53:53I'm not sure you want to talk to Dan Campbell right now.
53:56No, right now.
53:56It's him right now.
53:57Now, he's a guy.
53:58He's so competitive.
53:59It's wearing on him.
54:00I promise you that.
54:02But in the grand scheme, if you don't play your stars, you don't expect too much.
54:07But it's the habits of five turnovers and all that kind of stuff that matters the most.
54:11Jared Goff, you'll see the Lions open up against the Packers at Lambeau,
54:19a place where they have had success over the last few years, winning in Wisconsin the last three years.
54:26And then they'll get a visit from Ben Johnson and the Bears in week two.
54:31Of course, the Chargers, as many of you know, open the season in.
