00:00You want to play where now you have guys open in a huge hole and now Gibson's able to come in
00:05fresh off the bench and pick up a nice gain on first down. New England has rushed for 120 yards
00:11exactly twice as much as they ran all last week against Las Vegas.
00:19Final 15 seconds of the quarter. Hooper on the back side of the formation 81 in blue.
00:25May pressure coming by Judon. May steps up looking to keep it. May touchdown with a late flag.
00:34Judon could not catch up with Drake May. Let's see what the penalty is. And the Patriots are celebrating.
00:44Holden defense number 25.
00:49And New England will go for two.
00:54Matthew Judon comes off the edge scot-free. No one touches him.
00:59And you can see Drake May looking behind, seeing how close he is.
01:03He told us here in the NFL, you can't really outrun off of the guys.
01:06Right there he said, I found somebody on the defense that I can outrun.
01:10As he's able to sprint past Judon for the touchdown.
01:12What a difference a week makes.
01:14Last week, slightly hesitant. Do I go? Do I stay in the pocket?
01:18This week, he makes up his mind. He takes off.
01:21And he's been stinging the defense all afternoon.
01:26Trying to make it a three-point lead.
01:28Stevenson is the running back.
01:35Handed off to Stevenson up the middle and he takes it in.
01:37And New England goes back up by three.
01:47What a drive by the Patriots to regain the lead.
01:52Talk about wanting to be a tough football team.
01:59Right there running behind Bradbury, Owenu, all of those guys.
02:03Wilson, right in the middle of that defense.
02:05And those guys were fired up.
02:07And this is going back to the touchdown.
02:08Charles, you said it.
02:09Drake May has been extremely decisive.
02:12I felt like all offseason they talked to him about protecting himself.
02:15Not always looking to run.
02:17Sliding.
02:18Today, after a week ago, where there was some confusion, some hesitancy.
02:21I think he came in this afternoon and said,
02:23You know what?
02:23I'm just going to go play ball.
02:25If this needs me taking off at moments,
02:27I'm going to do it because it's going to help this offense.
02:34Two touchdown passes for Drake May.
02:36One touchdown on the ground.
02:38He's rushed for 33 yards.
02:42We've seen resilience on both sides of this game.
02:45Miami looked like they might be on the deck early.
02:48The first two scores by New England.
02:50They came back with a flurry.
02:52New England now was on its heels.
02:54And they looked tired.
02:56And they flipped it back around.
02:58We got ourselves a heck of a game.
02:59We got 15 minutes and six seconds left.
03:02Let's do this.
03:05It is Washington fielding the kickoff at the four-yard line.
03:08Washington to the 30.
03:12And that is the final play of the third quarter.
03:17New England 23.
03:19Miami 20.
03:20You're watching the NFL.
03:22Not CBS.
03:23Hotel Penn.
03:30Emmy with Jason McCourty, Charles Davis, A.J. Ross.
03:33Our entire crew.
03:34I'm Andrew Catalan.
03:35We've had 11 possessions today.
03:37Eight scores.
03:38Five touchdowns.
03:39Three field goals.
03:41Patriots have missed two extra points.
03:42But they lead by three as we open up the fourth.
03:46So based on that graphic, can one of these defenses make a play?
03:52Make a stop.
03:53Give their offense one extra possession.
03:55That could be the difference today.
03:58Washington, the motion man.
04:00A-chan on first down.
04:01And he can't get back to the line of scrimmage.
04:05Back to New York.
04:06NFL Today update.
04:07Here's Adam Schein.
04:09Andrew, like a Jim Boeheim coach team, Buffalo is in the zone.
04:14Elijah Moore, are you kidding me?
04:1630-3.
04:17Bills, Cat, back to you.
04:21Hold it a minute.
04:22Hold it.
04:22Hold on a second.
04:23Was that a Syracuse thing?
04:25Yes.
04:25Yes, it was.
04:26You know, this goose thing.
04:29Nice.
04:32Wow.
04:32Bills doing damage.
04:33Remember, the Bills host the Dolphins Thursday night this week.
04:37Tua with time, and he has a man for a first down.
04:46That is Jalen Waddell.
04:47Wrapped up by Craig Woodson, but not before Waddell rumbles for 16.
04:52The one thing this Patriots defense talked about was trying to play inside out
04:56and not allowing Tua Tungabailoa and this Miami Dolphins to make plays in the middle of this field.
05:02And that's all they've done since the first possession.
05:04Jalen Waddell this time, Tyreek Hill cleared it out.
05:07He came underneath, and they are dominating in the middle of the field.
05:11And that's why this Miami Dolphins offense has looked like the one we've seen over the past few seasons.
05:16No surprise.
05:17They're attacking young secondary.
05:20A rookie at one safety and first-time starter at the other.
05:25Play fake Tua.
05:27And he overthrows Nick Westbrook-Akine.
05:30He had a little bit of space as well, and Tua sailed that pass.
05:38When you look at Tua, he's completed passes to just five different receivers.
05:43And they're really doing this without a pass-catching tight end in their offense for the second straight week.
05:50They traded Jonu Smith in the offseason.
05:52They signed Darren Waller out of retirement.
05:54They trade for him.
05:55He hasn't been healthy enough to play in the first two weeks.
05:58So Miami has just two tight ends, Tanner Conner and Julian Hill.
06:01As you see, Waller right there.
06:03Neither one of them has a catch today.
06:05And Conner would be your best option as a pass receiver.
06:07He was a wide receiver in college, converted to tight end.
06:11A-Chan.
06:13Good play by Spillane to make the initial contact.
06:16And now it's going to be third down and long.
06:18Landry finished off A-Chan.
06:21Jason, they have to love this play for one reason.
06:24Spillane makes the initial play, but he falls off the tackle.
06:27But there are three other blue shirts right there swarming to the football.
06:30And that was the one thing Spillane said yesterday,
06:32that it takes a group of guys to get A-Chan on the ground because of how slippery he is.
06:38And now this brings up a third down.
06:39We've seen already in this half a third down where Tua took a long shot to Tyreek Hill.
06:44These are the opportunities when his Miami Dolphins offense is going to see man-to-man from defenses.
06:50And this is their chance to really make plays.
06:52Tua dancing out of the pocket, trying to keep the play alive.
07:03Nobody's open, and Tua runs out of bounds.
07:05That is a great job down the field by the New England secondary to force Tua to run out.
07:11Milton Williams applying the pressure on Tungavailoa, and the Dolphins will punt.
07:16Jason, I think he wanted Waddle on this play, but watch what happens here with Woodson.
07:20Bumps him off the route, makes him do the little spin.
07:22And that throws off the timing, and look at Waddle's reaction at the end.
07:27I think he thought, this is a chance for me.
07:30Good job by Woodson, the rookie out of Cal.
07:33Bailey punting to Jones.
07:36Jones lets it go over his head, and sits right there around the 11-yard line.
07:40So good job by the former Patriot Jake Bailey to pin the patch deep to begin this drive.
07:46Early fourth in New England, up by three.
07:52Outdoers get more done.
07:58Allstate, you're in good hands.
08:02And by Chewy.
08:04For life with pets, there's Chewy with everything.
08:07Well, Jason McCourty played for both of these teams, winning a Super Bowl with the Patriots,
08:19and then one season with Miami.
08:21And as you pointed out to the wise guys in our production meeting last night,
08:26who showed you in the Miami Miracle, you don't care because you won the Super Bowl that year.
08:30Very much so, so we were able to bounce back from that tough loss.
08:34But two really great organizations.
08:36I'm proud to say I got a chance to be a member of both of them, obviously.
08:39Winning the Super Bowl in New England, but finishing up my career down here in Miami,
08:43and got an opportunity to compete alongside of a lot of the guys that were here.
08:47And some movement before the first play of this drive.
08:52Another Patriots penalty.
08:54False start, offense, number 76, five-yard penalty, first down.
08:59It's on Morgan Moses, penalty number nine today on New England.
09:03Second one on Moses.
09:04You don't get that very often from the venerable veteran.
09:07That heat can't be easy, though, Jason, when you go through it.
09:13I remember going through it in college level and playing down south,
09:17and you're just seeing visions across the field at times.
09:20At times, wondering when is this going to end.
09:23That's where the mentally tough find their way through in a game like this.
09:28May completes it to Douglas.
09:31That's Camario Douglas' first catch today.
09:34Willie Gay Jr. makes the tackle for Miami.
09:38And A.J. Willie Gay is a guy who did not play any snaps last week,
09:42but when we met with the Dolphins, they made it clear they wanted to get him on the field today.
09:46Absolutely, Andrew.
09:47That was something that Mike McDaniel pointed out,
09:49and that was something that was a point of emphasis,
09:51and it wasn't to any fault of his own.
09:53He's been putting in some really great reps, they said, throughout training camp,
09:56and it was something that they wanted to prioritize this week,
09:59and that's what we're now seeing.
10:00And that was very important for his psyche, too,
10:02because he lost a lot of snaps last year in New Orleans.
10:05And by the end of the year, he wasn't checked out,
10:07but he also wasn't as fully invested as he wanted to be.
10:11Stevenson is taken down by, guess who?
10:14Willie Gay Jr., and that is why they want to get him on the field.
10:19And his game is speed, guys, as you well know.
10:21Willie Gay in the open field.
10:23He runs like a running back.
10:26You're going to see him on the outside right there.
10:28Diagnosis of playing.
10:29He said runs like a running back.
10:31He zeroes in on Ramondre Stevenson, is able to get there.
10:34He's a speed guy, but he's physical.
10:36You know when he gets there, he's going to make contact,
10:39and you're going to remember him.
10:40You can tell he's got the fresh legs.
10:42He's still got the giddy-up going here in the fourth quarter of this game.
10:46We talked a lot about balance today for New England.
10:49They've run 46 plays.
10:5023 on the ground, 23 through the air.
10:54Going to the air here on third and long.
10:56A screen to Stevenson.
10:57And Stevenson turns it upfield.
11:00Let's see where they spot him.
11:01A great job after the catch, and he's got the first down.
11:04Ramondre Stevenson has had a big day for New England.
11:07A gain of 14.
11:08And, Charles, that's the second time we've seen this afternoon
11:11that Miami Dolphins come with blitz.
11:13They come with pressure.
11:15And into that pressure, Josh McDaniels has another screen dialed up.
11:19So you have so many guys running full speed at the quarterback
11:22that now you don't have as many guys in that back end to defend the screen.
11:25And this is where I'm surprised by that call
11:27because all they've talked about with Miami
11:29is got to be alert for New England's screen game.
11:32No better time to be alert for it on that third and long
11:34than they got him anyway.
11:35And a flag comes in.
11:38And I think this is going to be against New England again.
11:48Illegal shift.
11:49Offense.
11:50Number 85.
11:51Five-yard penalty.
11:53Still first down.
11:54That's on Hunter Henry.
11:57You can tell this is an offense that has a ways to go
11:59for continuity and getting it all together.
12:02You're getting penalties not just from the youngsters, Jason.
12:04You're getting them from the veteran guys.
12:08The label's not very happy about that
12:12when you see that reaction from your head coach.
12:15Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill.
12:16Come on, Max.
12:17Come on, Max.
12:18Kill, kill, kill.
12:19Go on.
12:19So first and 15.
12:22And Henderson remains the running back.
12:27Give it to Henderson up the goal.
12:29A host of Dolphins there to greet it.
12:33And you look at the touch distribution today.
12:36Ramondre Stevenson has 15 touches, 10 carries, 5 receptions.
12:41Well, that was just the fifth touch for Henderson.
12:44Two carries, three carries and two catches.
12:46Speaking of distribution,
12:49would you have thought at this stage of the game, guys,
12:52Kayshawn Booty, one target, one reception for 16 yards
12:56after the season opener 5-103 against Las Vegas?
13:00Back-to-back 100-yard games for Booty going back to Week 18 last year.
13:08Bad snap.
13:09May falls on it.
13:12Garrett Bradbury bounced that one back to Drake May.
13:16And a big loss on the play.
13:21Charles, you just talked about veterans making mistakes.
13:23We talked about Morgan Moses with a false start,
13:26Hunter Henry with an illegal ship.
13:27And now we have Bradbury, the veteran center,
13:30who came home from Minnesota now with a bad snap
13:33and a critical situation, craving a third and 26.
13:36Josh McDaniels doesn't have many plays on the play sheet
13:39that get you 26 yards on one down.
13:42I'll tell you right now, Anthony Weaver's not blitzing on this play.
13:45Not at all.
13:45He's playing zone, eyes back this way,
13:48eyes back towards the quarterback.
13:5113-yard loss on that play.
13:53Gibson on the screen.
13:55And Gibson going nowhere.
13:57Jordan Brooks finishes him off.
14:00And now there's an injured dolphin down in the end zone.
14:04And that is Chop Robinson grabbing his left leg.
14:07Drake May getting some coaching from Mike Vrabel.
14:21But Robinson is the concern right now.
14:26He is still down on the field.
14:30When the Eagles won the Super Bowl,
14:35that was just the case.
14:36And he's okay as he enters the blue medical tent.
14:39And now Bryce Behringer will punt from his own end zone.
14:42Remember earlier, in a similar situation,
14:45he had a 71-yard punt.
14:49Malik Washington is back deep.
14:51He bobbles it for a second.
15:16Still going as he spins forward.
15:18Trying to get to the outside.
15:20Washington gets by the putter down the sideline.
15:25Malik Washington to the house.
15:28Touchdown, Miami.
15:2974 yards.
15:32The first dolphin to take a punt back for a touchdown in five years.
15:57Jahkeem Grant in November of 2020.
16:00The one thing, when you punt the ball that far,
16:03sometimes you out-punch your coverage.
16:05And this was just a terrific effort by Malik Washington,
16:09making the first and second guys miss,
16:11ending up in the scrum and finding his way out of it.
16:14And then the rest of it,
16:15that's what would mom and dad bless them with.
16:17That is pure speed to get down that sideline.
16:20First guy he made miss,
16:21the all-pro special teamer, Brendan Schooley.
16:27Patterson's extra point is good.
16:30With 7.18 to go.
16:34They are going nuts down here in South Florida.
16:37The Dolphins back in front,
16:39thanks to Malik Washington.
16:40Has just made the third lead change of the game.
16:48This one putting the Dolphins back in front.
16:51Made Brendan Schooley miss, and that's tough to do.
16:55He's led them in special teams guys the last three years,
16:57all-pro last year.
16:58And I believe, as you pointed out to me in the break,
17:01Jason, I think Charles Woods was the second guy down
17:03that he made miss.
17:05Yes, he got help.
17:06Yes, he got some escort.
17:07But that individual effort by Malik Washington,
17:09that's what put the Miami Dolphins back on top.
17:16Remember the last time the Patriots were backed up
17:18putting from their own end zone,
17:19they had Tyreek Hill to return the punt.
17:22This time it's Malik Washington.
17:24And he goes the distance.
17:26Probably Malik Washington from here on out.
17:29It's a good guess there, Jason.
17:35Patterson to Gibson,
17:37who gets a running start on that catch.
17:38Gibson across the 30.
17:41Antonio Gibson still going.
17:43Can he return the favor?
17:44Down the sideline.
17:46You gotta be kidding me.
17:48Back to back.
17:50A 90-yard touchdown.
17:52Charles, I love football.
18:10Remember when you hated playing special teams?
18:12Now you're like, hey, if I can return them.
18:14Nice jump cut there.
18:17And then he got good wedge of blocking that he bounced off of.
18:21And once he got to the sideline, he outruns K.J. Britt,
18:24the linebacker from Miami,
18:27and dives into the end zone.
18:28Back-to-back monster plays.
18:30Had a 41-yard return last week against Las Vegas.
18:33Antonio Gibson has always been that explosive-type player
18:36and very determined runner.
18:38And that allowed him to make headway for this one.
18:41And Boracalas makes the extra point after missing too early.
18:46So in the last 12 seconds,
18:49we've had a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown,
18:52and now a 90-yard kick return.
18:55Look at Vrabel.
18:56He's still got some wheels getting down the sideline.
19:00And what an incredible sequence of events.
19:05And Andrew, no injuries, no soft tissue.
19:08He's absolutely rolling.
19:10He's going to tell Gibson tomorrow when they're watching the film
19:12that, hey, if I wanted to,
19:14I probably could have rang it down on that.
19:16But what a play.
19:1712 seconds, two return touchdowns.
19:20But you know when he was head coach at Tennessee,
19:22his pregame routine was running 100s.
19:26He would stride him out and run him.
19:28I'm not sure if he's still doing that in New England,
19:29but it certainly looks like he is.
19:32And he even had a little change of direction there.
19:37First career kick return touchdown for Antonio Gibson.
19:43All right.
19:43What do we expect now?
19:45We have another kickoff we have to deal with.
19:48Malik Washington, who just took a punt back for a touchdown,
19:51is back deep along with Dee Eskridge.
19:54Okay, so Craig Aukerman, the special teams coach,
19:57was celebrating like mad on the return from Malik Washington from Miami.
20:02And then you flipped it over,
20:04and Jeremy Springer, who was feeling despair,
20:07all of a sudden he's back to elation,
20:09the special teams coach for New England.
20:10That one bounces, Eskridge has to pick it up.
20:13He does at the five.
20:15Now Eskridge is not going to make it three in a row.
20:19Advantage, Jeremy Springer, special teams coach in New England.
20:23Touchdown each,
20:24and now a great job pinning them deep in their own territory.
20:27It'll be a rollercoaster of emotions tomorrow in those special teams meetings
20:31where you're fired up one second,
20:33and you're going nuts and throwing stuff in the room the next second.
20:36It's a rollercoaster of emotions for the special teams coach
20:38when the head coach sits with him to watch the special teams tape.
20:41So 7-0-1 to go,
20:46and we're actually going to have an offensive play
20:48from the line of scrimmage.
20:51Miami with the ball down by three.
20:54A-Change had a big day
20:55with 16 touches.
21:02Play fake here.
21:03Tua on the move.
21:06And over the middle,
21:06he's got Westbrook Akine,
21:08who stays on his feet,
21:09and that creates a first down.
21:11Hawkins finally able to bring him down
21:13after Robert Spillane missed the tackle.
21:16Jason, this was really designed well
21:18because you're going to get receivers, right,
21:22out into the flat and in here,
21:24and he still had a third option.
21:26The first two were taken away,
21:28but Westbrook Akine coming from the back side
21:31still there and available as the outlet for Tua,
21:35and he is able to have the patience and find it.
21:39Tyree Kill goes in motion.
21:45Tua back to the air.
21:46Pressure's coming.
21:47Tua, they're going to locate A-Change.
21:49Rockers ahead.
21:50A-Change, another Miami first down.
21:53Harold Landry on the tackle after a gain of 12.
21:57And Charles, what you showed him Tua Tungabailoa
22:00a week ago,
22:01his ex-teammate Xavier Howard,
22:02after they beat him for the Indianapolis Colts,
22:05talked about once you take his first read away,
22:07is panic mode.
22:08Well, what we've seen from Tua today
22:10is his first read has been taken away numerous times,
22:13and he's worked through his progression
22:14and been able to make throw after throw
22:16to lead this offense.
22:17Let's go!
22:18Part of what he told us last week,
22:20I hung on my first read way too long.
22:22I just need to move my progressions along,
22:24and today he's done exactly that,
22:26as you just discussed.
22:29A-Change stuffed!
22:31And that's Christian Barmore,
22:33who left earlier with an injury,
22:35feeling healthy there.
22:38And how about his return?
22:39Last season's spoiled blood clots.
22:42That's a bigger thing than just being able to play football.
22:45And to have big number 90 back on the field,
22:47creating rubble,
22:48as he goes past
22:49Jonah Savayanaya,
22:51the rookie guard out of Arizona.
22:53Left tackle in college,
22:54moved inside.
22:55had a tough time there
22:57with Mr. Barmore.
23:02Dolphins have A-Change
23:03and Ali Gordon on the field.
23:06That's Gordon next to Tua.
23:12Tua, Gordon, nice catch.
23:15Gordon gets by Spillane
23:17and then gets no farther.
23:19What a good job by Ali Gordon
23:21to secure that football,
23:22and now it's third down.
23:25It's a good job by Ali Gordon,
23:28trying to set up a middle screen
23:29where he's coming back in there
23:31and just good hands,
23:32spinning around,
23:33doing a 360
23:34as he's able to haul that ball in.
23:36And we've seen a few missed tackles
23:38by Spillane, too,
23:39as well as Tua hanging in there
23:41with a shot from Harold Landry
23:42coming off the edge.
23:43Really good job by him.
23:44Second really nice catch
23:46by a big power back
23:47from Andre Stevenson
23:48in the open field for New England
23:49and now Gordon for Miami.
23:51He's a big play here.
23:53Third down and seven for the Dolphins,
23:54approaching four minutes to go.
24:00Tua, pocket collapsing,
24:02and he still locates an open man.
24:04And we'll see where they spot
24:06Westbrook Akine.
24:07It's very close to a first down,
24:09and they're saying it is
24:10a Miami first down.
24:11Just enough to move the chains.
24:22We talked about Tua hanging in the pocket.
24:24He did that just there,
24:27looking for Westbrook Akine,
24:28waiting, waiting.
24:29Ballmore is coming right down
24:31face-to-face with him,
24:33and he hangs in there
24:34and is able to hit his wide receiver,
24:36Westbrook Akine,
24:37for a nice pickup
24:38on a first down there.
24:40Yeah, that'd be a clip and save for Tua
24:41if you're going to say
24:42I panic in the pocket.
24:44Take up this play.
24:45Play clock winding down.
24:46They just get it off.
24:47Or did they?
24:50McDaniel was going nuts.
24:51Glenn Dane.
24:53Offense.
24:53Five-yard penalty.
24:54First down.
24:56That's a bad penalty there
24:57by the Dolphins offensively.
24:59I don't doubt that there was a play
25:01from our game
25:02that went into the officiating community.
25:04You remember when the play clock ran out
25:06and the snap came about a second and a half later?
25:09I'm pretty sure they're like,
25:10guys, we've got to tighten that up a little bit.
25:12You go back to that San Francisco-Dallas playoff game
25:14a few years ago,
25:15that's where it all really exploded.
25:17How much grace do you get
25:19with the play clock and then the snap?
25:23So that pushes the Dolphins back
25:25to their own 42-yard line
25:27with 3.18 to go.
25:28Tua deep over the middle,
25:37too high,
25:38and Tyreek Hill was open.
25:41Tyreek Hill was wide open
25:42and Tua missed him.
25:45And Jason, they were fortunate
25:47because this ball sailed
25:49and Craig Woodson doesn't fall down
25:51behind him right there.
25:54There might have been a play to be made.
25:56Perhaps.
25:57See, Woodson, he's down.
25:59Hill's open,
26:00and there's an opportunity to get it in there.
26:01Carlton Davis is also in the scene.
26:04But if the ball's not there
26:06and it sails like that,
26:07and Woodson's on his feet,
26:08there may have been a play there for New England.
26:10Carlton Davis was looking at him like,
26:12stay up!
26:12There's the opportunity.
26:14Stand your feet, young man.
26:16Big opportunity missed there by Miami,
26:18and now all sorts of motion up front,
26:20and this drive is falling apart for the Dolphins.
26:24Got Ali Gordon.
26:30False starter, offense.
26:32Five-yard penalty, second down.
26:33Didn't give us a number,
26:38but Jason, you think Gordon 31?
26:40Yeah, as the shifts in the movement started to happen,
26:42he went to go,
26:43and all the Patriots,
26:44sideline and guys on the field included,
26:46started pointing and saying,
26:47hey, hey, he's moving, he's moving.
26:49And that's where the running backs,
26:50you just kind of want to get skinnier and skinnier
26:52and hope that no one saw that.
26:54Hard for 6-2, 2-25 to hide on that one.
26:57That is true.
26:59Second down and 20 for Miami.
27:06Tua to Hill.
27:08He's got it at midfield,
27:10and doesn't get much further
27:12as Alex Austin was able to slow down his progress,
27:15and now it'll be third down after a gain of 13.
27:18That's a big gain.
27:19That puts him third down in striking distance.
27:21This is not a third and long for them.
27:24Look at Hill.
27:24With that speed, you've got to respect it,
27:26and you just keep backing up and staying back
27:28so he doesn't run by you
27:30when he cuts it out underneath.
27:32That ball's right there for him.
27:34And Tyreek Hill has gone over 100 yards today.
27:37He's got 109 through the air.
27:42Last three games with Tua,
27:43he had totaled 105 yards.
27:46And this could be two down territory right here,
27:48four down territory, guys,
27:49because that's a long field goal.
27:51Third down and seven.
27:52Landry coming off the edge.
27:53Tua steps up.
27:54Landry's got him!
27:56Landry's been absent most of the game,
27:58but on a huge third down play,
28:00Landry gets the sack.
28:03And we talked about Larry Borm
28:05getting the start at right tackle
28:07for Austin Jackson,
28:08who's on edge of reserve.
28:10And we're going to see right here
28:11how Landry comes right around the edge right there
28:13and is able to get home to Tua
28:15as he's trying to step up in that pocket.
28:17Just a really good job with his hands right there.
28:20It's almost like a Mr. Miyagi.
28:21Wax off, wax off.
28:22As he knocks Borm's hands down,
28:24it gets right around that edge.
28:26Total swipe move.
28:27Borm had no chance.
28:28He was already gone.
28:29Bring up a monster fourth down.
28:31And McDaniel will go for it.
28:33Fourth and nine.
28:34Play clock down to two.
28:36Tua just gets the snap-in time.
28:39Tua nowhere to go.
28:41Now throws.
28:41Picked off!
28:43Intercepted on the play by Mapu!
28:46Marte Mapu on the INT!
28:58His third career interception.
29:01And it comes with just 2.12 left to go in Miami.
29:07He had a big force fumble in the game here last year.
29:10Four of those for his career.
29:12The safety coming out of Sacramento State
29:14who was also used in the linebacker spots.
29:17Now purely a linebacker.
29:19Tua Tunga-Valoa trying to make a play.
29:22Trying to get it to one of his receivers.
29:23Mapu underneath just reads his eyes the entire way
29:26and goes right to the football
29:27for a big-time interception.
29:30And New England fully in the driver's seat.
29:33Dolphins have two timeouts
29:35and the two-minute warning.
29:37Stephenson the running back.
29:41Stephenson takes the handoff.
29:44And he gets to the 35-yard line.
29:48And Mike McDaniel will let the clock wind down
29:50to the two-minute warning.
29:52New England 30.
29:54Miami 27.
29:56Two minutes to go on CBS.
30:00Truck for $29.98.
30:05It's also an admission that...
30:07Go on.
30:08Okay.
30:09Maybe it was just a phase.
30:11Yeah.
30:13Valspar.
30:13Affordable.
30:14Durable.
30:15Available at Lowe's.
30:16Saturday is big time and prime time.
30:19Rock and roll.
30:20First, Bryce Underwood and Michigan
30:22in a big-time matchup against Dylan Raiola and the Huskers.
30:25Then a prime-time Apple Cup between the Huskies and Cougars.
30:28Go my rock and roll.
30:29The NFL on CBS is sponsored by T-Mobile.
30:39Now the best network in America.
30:43And by McDonald's.
30:46Back in South Florida, coming up, State Farm postgame show.
30:56JB, Nate, Matt Ryan, Coach Cowher, all the latest NFL scores and highlights
31:00coming up on the State Farm postgame show.
31:03Tyreek Hill hoping for another chance.
31:05So is Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.
31:08As Miami tries to avoid an 0-2 star.
31:10And then a trip to Buffalo on Thursday.
31:13A Bills team that has been blowing out the Jets today.
31:18I think you just got to commit everything on the run here, don't you, Jason?
31:21Yeah.
31:21I mean, I'm just selling out here.
31:24And if they have the guts to go ahead and throw it in this situation, then so be it.
31:27I just cannot let them pop me and gash me in the run game here and run this clock out.
31:32Play fake to Stevenson.
31:35And an incompletion thrown by May, which stops the clock.
31:40Wow.
31:41That's gutsy for me.
31:43Really gutsy.
31:44That's really gutsy because of what you just said, Andrew.
31:47This right here.
31:50You didn't force them to use another timeout.
31:52Clock stopped and helped Miami.
31:54I want that thing running or them going timeout and burning everything off.
32:00Those are one of those plays when you dial that up.
32:02You almost want your quarterback.
32:03If it's not there, take the sack.
32:05Take the sack or run it.
32:06Do something.
32:07Do not put the ball on the ground.
32:09Really good break for Miami.
32:11Third down and eight.
32:12With shadows covering half the field.
32:14May to the air again.
32:16And that one's caught but short of a first down by Stephon Diggs.
32:20Rasul Douglas makes a big tackle.
32:22And now Mike McDaniel will stop the clock with 1.52 to go.
32:27And one timeout left.
32:28It's fourth down and two.
32:31And Mike Vrabel is looking at a situation where he's got a rookie kicker who's missed two extra points today.
32:38It would be a 48-yard field goal from here.
32:41Or do you go for it and try to win the game?
32:43Here are the missed extra points from earlier by Bora Gullis.
32:49And what's going through Mike Vrabel's head, I have to imagine, Jason, a field goal ties it if I don't pick up the first down.
32:56They have to score a touchdown to tie and beat me if I make this field goal.
33:02What am I feeling about my rookie kicker?
33:05I'm running him out there and kicking it.
33:06I think I'm going for it.
33:07You're going for it here?
33:08I think I'm going for it.
33:09I'm running him out here and kicking it.
33:10I'm putting the faith in my offense to pick up this first down.
33:13Let's see if they snap it or if they just try to get the Dolphins to jump.
33:19Play clock at 5.
33:21And there was movement up front and it was New England who jumped.
33:27Now you're going to have a 50-something-yard field goal if you kick it?
33:31You have really put it.
33:32We're up to 53-yard field goal with your rookie guy.
33:35Ball started.
33:36Office number 76.
33:37Five-yard penalty.
33:38Tough day at the office for Morgan Moses.
33:41And now, Vrabel will run out Andy Borregalas for a 53-yard field goal attempt.
33:50That movement up front by Miami.
33:52Once again, they did that all afternoon.
33:54Those quick shifts on those guys on the interior forced those Patriots offensive linemen to jump.
34:00That happened about three times this afternoon.
34:01Really good job by Miami and Austin Jackson, their defensive line coach,
34:06to be able to come up with those stunts to get them to jump.
34:09Borregalas' career-long at Miami in this stadium, 56 yards.
34:14This is from 53 yards away.
34:17Out of the hold of Bryce Beringer.
34:19Kick on the way.
34:20And it is good!
34:23The rookie with a big kick.
34:25And the Patriots go up by six with 1.47 to go.
34:33Boy, did he regain some good will with that kick.
34:37Wow.
34:43Borregalas said, don't worry, Coach Braves, I got you.
34:46Morgan Moses, I'll bail you out on that false start.
34:48Don't worry about it.
34:49Hey, Coach, those chip shots, that's not me.
34:53Okay?
34:54I'm a long-distance shooter.
34:57He may have saved his job with that kick.
35:00But how about what it tells us about who he is mentally?
35:03Because those missed extra points early put his team in a tough spot.
35:08You can shrink from that.
35:09This kid did not.
35:10He hung in there and made the rest of his kicks, including that monster one right there.
35:15He was born in Venezuela, moved to the U.S. when he was two years old, just down the road.
35:20Hollywood, Florida, then played collegiately at Miami.
35:24And he gives New England a six-point advantage with 1.47 to go.
35:27His brother kicked at Florida State, won the Luke Rose Award for top kicker in college football before he left.
35:33Second straight week, Miami is allowed 33 points.
35:44Do they have a late to come back, and that didn't hit the landing zone.
35:50Oh, my goodness.
35:51Now it goes to the 40.
35:53Short free kick, kicking team.
35:55Barul LeBow will be placed at the 40-yard line.
35:57First down.
35:58And Grable is the first one to greet Borregalas as he walks off the field.
36:02That is an inexcusable mistake.
36:06It just tells you how the new kicking, the new kickoff rule has affected that.
36:10Because in normal situations, that ball is out of the end zone, or you're kicking it deep, you don't worry.
36:15But now it's coming to the 35 anyway, right?
36:17So you're trying to make a play, and he mishit it.
36:21And now, as some special teams coaches told us, okay, it's bad.
36:25But remember, it was coming to the 35 anyway.
36:27Now it just comes to the 40.
36:28And Miami needs to score a touchdown.
36:32Field goal doesn't help him here with one timeout.
36:40Tua to Waddle.
36:41Wide open in the flat, and he runs out of bounds just in front of Alex Austin.
36:47And remember that last drive, Miami did not have to use all of their timeouts.
36:51They have one left in their pocket as they make this last attempt.
36:54Plenty of time for Tua Tonga-Vailoa in this offense.
36:57He can get the ball on the outside.
36:59He also can still work the middle of the field.
37:01To your point, Charles, with that one timeout left, and with a minute and 42,
37:05he has plenty of time to be able to drive this ball down the field.
37:09I mean, you're still looking at Craig Woodson, number 31, the rookie safety.
37:13If you're going to attack the middle of the field, you might look at him first.
37:15Tyreek Hill in motion, Tua looking his way, now comes back over the middle,
37:18and he's got the first down.
37:21Into New England territory.
37:23It's a gain of nine on the play.
37:301.25 and counting.
37:34After Ingold had the reception.
37:35From the 44-yard line, Tua in the shotgun.
37:41Hill in motion again.
37:43Tua locates A-Chan.
37:46Nice move by A-Chan.
37:48Pumping away from Mapu.
37:49It's still going.
37:50A-Chan.
37:5110-5.
37:52Touchdown.
37:53A-Chan.
37:54A-Chan.
37:54Kick-off short of the landing zone.
38:09Miami immediately responds, but now some discussion on the field.
38:14No flags down.
38:16That's one minute and nine seconds.
38:18It will be first and 10 at the 26-yard line.
38:20Wow, A-Chan went out of bounds.
38:22Right there.
38:26Literally did.
38:27Absolutely, the foot was in the white.
38:32There.
38:35Great replay by our crew.
38:38And they were trying to keep him in bounds to keep the clock running,
38:42but they didn't get him on the ground.
38:45What a wild, wild day here in South Florida.
38:52If you're New England defense, you've got to reprieve.
38:54What are you going to do with it?
38:55Got to play soft.
38:57You're protecting the touchdowns and more flags.
38:59Jeez.
39:04False start.
39:05All fits.
39:06Five-yard penalty.
39:08First down.
39:09Notice he's not giving us numbers anymore.
39:12Too many.
39:13So, let's say, don't look.
39:15Leave me out of it.
39:1711 penalties on New England.
39:19Now 10 against Miami.
39:24And to your point, Charles, if I'm the New England Patriots offense, defense right now,
39:28we're protecting the touchdown.
39:30We're staying back.
39:31We're keeping the ball in front of us,
39:32and we have to make tackles when the ball is checked down.
39:35And that's the big one.
39:37Can you get them on the ground?
39:39Look at the play clock.
39:41And there goes the last time out.
39:43Ho, ho, ho.
39:44And boos from the Dolphin fans here at home.
39:48Having to use your last time out because the play clock was going to expire.
39:52This was the apparent touchdown.
40:07But A-Chan stepping out of bounds right here.
40:14Boom.
40:16Definitely in the white.
40:18Mapu made the right play to force it back inside.
40:21You're going to eat up clock, but you're counting on other people being there.
40:25And there was space for him to go.
40:28He knows tough to corral, Devon A-Chan.
40:30So Miami is now out of timeouts.
40:32Play clock down to two.
40:33Tua taking a deep shot down the field, looking for Waddle, and it is incomplete.
40:39Two Patriots back there, Austin and Woodson.
40:46And that's where the plan changes a little bit for Miami.
40:49Now you've lost that timeout.
40:50So now you don't have a way to stop the clock.
40:53So a shot at the end zone right there to try to end this thing.
40:56Now if you don't get the ball on the outside and get out of bounds, you're moving extremely fast.
41:00I have to continue to get up and get plays now.
41:04With Jason McCourty, Charles Davis, A.J. Ross, I'm Andrew Catalan.
41:08We've had a wild game here between the Patriots and Dolphins, including a sequence of 12 seconds where we had a punt return for a touchdown and a kick return for a touchdown.
41:19Drake Bay, 19 of 23 for 230 yards today and two touchdowns.
41:27And if you're just joining us, this was the sequence.
41:30Malik Washington, a 74-yard punt return touchdown.
41:34And then on the ensuing kickoff, this is Antonio Gibson returning the favor and going 90 yards with Mike Grable frantically running down the sideline watching him score.
41:47New England kicked the 53-yard field goal.
41:59And here we go with 1-0-4 to go.
42:08Miami is out of timeouts.
42:10Tackling at a premium here, isn't it, Jason?
42:15Yeah.
42:15You're going to play zone.
42:16You're going to keep the ball in front of you.
42:18Now it's a matter of getting a guy on the ground.
42:21Second down and 20.
42:24Tua.
42:25And he's got a completion.
42:26That's Eskridge.
42:27And a good tackle made by Alex Austin.
42:30That'll keep the clock running.
42:31Miami can't stop it.
42:40Oh, so the previous timeout where Miami was charged was ruled an injury timeout.
42:46So that gave Miami, it was on New England, actually.
42:49So that was why they got hit with the timeout, not Miami.
42:53So now Mike McDaniel has used his final timeout.
42:57Because timeouts are like Cats lives, aren't they?
42:59Yeah.
43:00A couple extra points in there.
43:02And I guess since it's a third down play, that's why you call the timeout here.
43:10Because you could say, if you're Miami, why not keep that in your back pocket?
43:13But it's a huge play coming up right here.
43:15You really don't want to be rushed if you don't have to be in this situation.
43:19Come up with a little sense of calm and have a clear plan about what you're trying to accomplish.
43:24And it also got Jalen Waddell back on the field.
43:26So now him and Tyreek Hill are both in for this third down play.
43:32There's Waddell at the top of your screen on third down and 12.
43:42Tua chased out.
43:44On the move.
43:46Nobody open and he runs out of bounds.
43:48Boulain escorts him out.
43:49And now it's fourth down.
43:51And this is the ball game.
43:52The Dolphins in danger of falling to 0-2 with a trip to Buffalo coming up on Thursday.
44:04Where Tua's been at his best this afternoon has been in the middle of the field.
44:11You're the Miami Dolphins right now.
44:12You're going to want to try to run two guys on deeper routes in the middle of the field.
44:16The first one to go in to try to clear it out and maybe bring a guy behind him to try to get in that middle of the field.
44:22Because if you're the Patriots, you're protecting that outside to make sure they don't get out of bounds.
44:28Play clock winding down.
44:29Tua on fourth down.
44:30Pressure coming.
44:31Tua in trouble.
44:32Down he goes.
