00:00A wide open E.J. Jenkins and Jenkins up that far sideline is going to have a first down down at the 7, a 13-yard pickup.
00:10Man, I'm happy for Patrick Johnson. Nice catch there by Eli Jenkins who really was a part of this team last year.
00:17Got promoted a bunch based on how he played in these preseason games, but Johnson getting another opportunity back here in Philly.
00:26Maybe he's the guy to give them some quality snaps as a backup off the edge.
00:30Well, he's the reason we're going to go to the fourth quarter with the Eagles looking at a first and goal on the game's first turnover.
00:37Three quarters in the books. One more quarter to go.
00:42It's been an interest trying to add to that lead now.
00:44They'll start the fourth quarter with a first and goal, the 7-yard line.
00:49That guy, if you're joining us late, Tanner McKee had himself a night.
00:52And with most of the regular sitting,
00:59Royan Thompson-Robinson trying to use the short field to get his team back in the end zone.
01:04Empty set, alert quarterback legs.
01:07There they are.
01:08And Thompson-Robinson gets stopped before he can get to that hole.
01:12Not a whole lot there.
01:14As soon as you see an empty set with a mobile quarterback, you've got to be thinking about their legs.
01:23I don't know what the Eagles' blocking scheme was there, but they had two for two on the left side,
01:30and they left one guy totally unblocked.
01:32But I'm not sure if that's how they were supposed to block it,
01:35but it really didn't give Thompson-Robinson a chance.
01:42And back to the ground.
01:44Getting spun as Powell as he hits the 5-yard line.
01:49So a third down and goal coming up.
01:54So far, so good for that guy, huh, Scott?
01:57Kevin Petulo?
01:58Kevin Petulo's had a good night.
01:59I don't know that they've had a pre-snap penalty.
02:02I don't want to jinx him here, but I haven't noticed anything bad with the operation.
02:08And everything he's handled so far in this game is like a guy that's been doing it for years.
02:14His offense has 395 yards.
02:17Third down and goal.
02:18DTR goes up top.
02:20It's there.
02:21And incomplete.
02:25Trying to get it up into the hands of Johnny Wilson,
02:29who's made a couple catches like that tonight.
02:31He had to kind of turn his body, though.
02:38The Eagles are going to settle for a field goal attempt.
02:47Jake Elliott's made them from 44 and 36.
02:50This field goal, a 23-yarder.
03:00And it is good.
03:05Get some late flags in this second half.
03:09What if this changes things?
03:11He's wondering if it changes things.
03:13Yep.
03:25Personal foul.
03:27Defense number 93.
03:28Roughing the snapper.
03:30Passed it into the goal.
03:32Automatic first down.
03:33That really changes things.
03:34You cannot hit the snapper.
03:41The Eagles, by the way, I believe, have a backup snapper in there.
03:47Yeah, and you can see right in the middle.
03:48You cannot hit the snapper.
03:50They protect those guys so much more than they used to back in the day.
03:54Christian Johnstone is the backup with Charlie Hewlett, the veteran snapper that the Eagles signed, being banged up.
04:03So, first and goal.
04:04And an easy route to the end zone for the first touchdown for Shun Derrick Powell.
04:09A little two-yard run after the penalty.
04:15And that will stretch the Byrne's lead to 16.
04:20Let me just tell you, if you're 5'7", a puck 80, and you get signed by an NFL team, you are quick.
04:29And you can see it right there.
04:31I mean, look at the juke by Shun Derrick.
04:35But watch him.
04:35I mean, he's got some serious quicks.
04:38That second move right there, you've got to have some serious lateral agility at 5'7", a puck 80, to get signed by an NFL team.
04:48Ran for 4,000 yards in 44 college games with moves probably exactly like that one.
04:56An interception and a mistake by the Bengals' defense as the Eagles stretch their lead here early in the fourth quarter.

05:35I think I said this last year, Scott, but I played for five teams, and none of them had anything even close
05:44to what the Eagles have built here with the Eagles Autism Foundation.
05:48Ryan Hammond and her team, it's incredible.
05:53And a shout-out to the Kelsey family.
05:55Jason and Kylie in particular.
05:57I attended a couple of their events down in C.I.L. City.
06:01They raised a million dollars.
06:04I saw that.
06:04Eagles Autism Foundation in two days.
06:06Truly incredible.
06:08And it's a family affair, and Jason and Kylie put so much time and effort into it.
06:14It's really special just to be a small part of it.
06:20A.J. Woods spent last year on the practice squad.
06:24First down to Isaiah Williams on the kick return.
06:29And the Bengals started from their own 24.
06:31So we got Patrick Johnson making some plays along the defensive line.
06:35I'd like to see some more guys step up here on the D-line.
06:39D-line depth matters.
06:41These guys are going to rotate in with the starters.
06:45We don't need them to play at a high level.
06:46And again, it's talked about a lot at this time of year.
06:53But you've got players on the field right now who are playing to show what they can do.
06:59Trying to ensure themselves a job moving forward into this year and into the years in the future.
07:06This is, you know, people say a preseason game doesn't mean much.
07:11Tell that to these guys.
07:12This means everything to not only them, but their families.
07:16They've been working their whole lives for this opportunity.
07:21Desmond Ritter now in the game, the quarterback for the Bengals.
07:24And Skye has went over the top of his intended receiver, Tanner McLaughlin.
07:35Ty Robinson getting in the backfield again.
07:38You know, he did that once in the first half, Scott.
07:40And he got in the backfield so quickly, he thought it was a screen.
07:44And he slowed down.
07:45Let's watch him on this one.
07:48That's a bad blocking scheme.
07:50That is not Ty Robinson.
07:52Ty, I love you, but that is a missed assignment by either the right guard or the center for the Cincinnati Bengals.
08:00Credit to Robinson for taking advantage of it.
08:04On third and seven.
08:07And that throw with all kinds of contact going on on the far sideline was intended for Cole Burgess.
08:14And then he's going to end up going against the Eagles and Perry Nickerson.
08:17Perry Nickerson top of the screen.
08:24He's known more as a nickel corner.
08:27Getting some run on the outside.
08:29And, boy, he's hugging him up pretty good there.
08:33You know what is always frustrating to me in those situations, Scott?
08:36He didn't need to do that.
08:38He had absolutely fantastic coverage.
08:42And Perry's 30.
08:43I mean, he's been around a long time.
08:45And he knows better than that.
08:47He had him dead to rights.
08:51And that ultimately ends up giving the Bengals another opportunity.
08:55Perry Brightwell on the first carry.
08:58I think Ty Robinson is going to end up being a fan favorite.
09:01Watch how he attacks run blocks.
09:04I mean, you're not going to block him at a tight end.
09:06Rocking that number nine.
09:07And then the athleticism.
09:08Put him at fullback.
09:09Let him pancake that quarter off the edge.
09:12Sit down.
09:13And for a guy with all of that brute strength, would you peg him for somebody he once raised a camel?
09:23Raised a what?
09:24Camel.
09:25I don't know what that means.
09:27It's an animal.
09:28Like as a pet?
09:30Well, his neighbor had a camel, but his neighbor had to go somewhere.
09:34And he came in, stepped in, and actually helped raise the camel.
09:38Like Napoleon Dynamite?
09:40Something like that.
09:43Have you ever even seen Napoleon Dynamite?
09:44I have.
09:45You have?
09:46Yes, I have.
09:46What's the name of the camel?
09:48The llama.
09:48Multiple times.
09:49I do not remember.
09:50I have seen the film multiple times.
09:52I can't remember if it's a llama or a camel, but Tina needs to eat her supper.
09:56Right.
09:56That's all I remember from the movie.
09:58All right, third and five.
10:00Eagles.
10:01We got O'Shawn Mathis.
10:03Antoine Powell, Rylan off the edge.
10:05Gabe Hall, Ty Robinson.
10:07We'll see if the four-man rush can get there.
10:09Got to get home.
10:10Ritter through it very quickly, and that is all kinds of contact.
10:14It made sure that pass was not going to be complete.
10:17Tariq Pat Castro-Fields steps in with a big shot up near midfield.
10:22That is a terrific read by the former Penn Stater, Castro-Fields.
10:27It's either zone coverage, or he read the route quickly, and I love that he put the shoulder
10:35right in the chest of Hudson.
10:38You know, he didn't get near the head or neck area.
10:41You can still deliver a significant blow without hitting in the head or neck area and getting
10:47a penalty.
10:49So the Eagles have got the ball back.
10:57And a return for Avery Williams.
11:00That's been pretty good field position out at the 25-yard line as they begin their next drive.
11:0511-13 left to go here in preseason game number one.
11:10New quarterback for the Eagles, rookie Kyle McCord.
11:14Six-round draft pick out of Syracuse.
11:17Who for nearly 4,800 yards last year for the Orange and 34 touchdowns.
11:24I'm looking forward to this.
11:25I enjoyed watching Kyle in college, even in high school at St. Joe's Prep here in Philadelphia.
11:33Smart, accurate, tough, demonstrated track record of overcoming adversity.
11:40That's the profile of a long-time backup quarterback in the NFL.
11:45Well, the adversity will kick in right here.
11:49Off to number 78.
11:50Five-yard penalty.
11:52The first down.
11:52And that's a natural thing, Scott, when you have a new quarterback come in, right?
11:59So Miles Hinton, the big left tackle, was used to first Tanner McKee.
12:05Then it was DTR.
12:07And he get a new snap count, new cadence.
12:10And it's just a little bit different.
12:12Every quarterback, it's like a snowflake.
12:14No cadence is exactly the same.
12:20I was wondering where you were going with that.
12:23So was I.
12:25Got a flag on the play once again.
12:28Holding.
12:29Off to number 78.
12:30Ten-yard penalty.
12:32The first down.
12:33And Miles Hinton gets hit on back-to-back plays now.
12:36One of the things the birds will be talking about this week is nine penalties.
12:40A lot of them coming here in the second half.
12:42It's been kind of a rough night for Miles Hinton, the rookie six-round pick out of Michigan.
12:46Let's see him.
12:48Hands inside there.
12:49But once he's outside the framework of your body, you can't keep grabbing him like that.
12:55And it didn't look egregious there.
12:57But Hinton, you want to talk about pedigree.
13:01His father, Chris, was traded for John Elway back in 83.
13:07Colts and Broncos, perennial all-pro left tackle.
13:11Awesome, awesome football player.
13:12He's in the Indy Ring of Honor.
13:14That's a pretty move on the outside.
13:17Keenan Robinson, a spin.
13:19And a pickup with 14 yards to get a lot of it back.
13:22I kind of like what I've seen from some of these down-the-line Eagles runners.
13:27Nice spin move by Robinson to pick up the extra yard.
13:33Shunderek Powell has shown a little something-something, too.
13:37Eagles have 411 yards of offense.
13:40That also gets me thinking.
13:41Has Saquon Barkley spent any time in the offseason teaching the reverse vault?
13:46I don't think he's going to do that again.
13:48He took a pretty good lick.
13:49I think once was enough.
13:52McCord trying to buy some time, and Robinson can't throw it in on the near sideline.
14:02It's interesting, isn't it, just to watch McCord as a rookie, you know,
14:08and compare and contrast McCord and DTR to what we saw from McKee,
14:12just in terms of how quickly the ball comes out.
14:15In fairness to DTR and Kyle McCord, they don't get very many reps.
14:21Right.
14:21You know, we talked to Kevin Patool, the offensive coordinator, about that.
14:24It is primarily Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee getting those guys ready for the real game.
14:30So these guys battling for the number three quarterback job,
14:33they got to learn on the job here.
14:36McCord throwing.
14:37Ooh.
14:37And got picked off.
14:39On the deflection.
14:41That ball is intercepted.
14:43Joe Giles Harris still on his feet, and he's going all the way in.
14:52How about that?
14:54And to add injury to insult, there's an eagle that's down.
15:06I have no idea what happened there.
15:08I mean, it hit the linebacker in the face mask off EJ Jenkins.
15:13I don't know that he was, oh, no, he got touched down.
15:15I think Jenkins touched him, and then his knee went down.
15:18It's a scoring place.
15:20They got to review it.
15:20But tell me, went off John Yameda, and then watch.
15:24Went off his face mask.
15:25Did EJ Jenkins touch him there, and then he went down?
15:29I think so.
15:30I'm not sure if that was Jenkins or a bangle.
15:33Watch 84.
15:36Catches the ball.
15:36He has.
15:37Does 84 touch him?
15:37Yeah, that's the right hand.
15:39That's all we need is the right hand by Jenkins, and then he goes down.
15:43This is coming back.
15:47Or at least it should be.
15:50All turnovers are reviewed.
15:53So are all scoring plays.
15:55So they can review it twice?
15:56We got the daily double review here.
16:00And Kenyon Green is the eagle who is slow to get up on the 30-yard line.
16:07So they'll take a look at the video as Green gets to his feet here in Philly.
16:12The contact in the 35-yard line.
16:15He's just set the game for like 10 minutes even.
16:17From what we saw, tough one to see based upon the angle, but they got it right.
16:27Correct.
16:28I mean, you can see.
16:29Watch 84.
16:30Jink and D.J. Jink is the right hand on the back of the jersey.
16:34White glove on the back of the jersey.
16:36That's all the Eagles needed.
16:37Then he goes down.
16:38You'll see the knee go down.
16:40It's dead right there.
16:41So the interception stands.
16:46The touchdown return does not.
16:49Cincinnati will take over at the Eagles' 35-yard line.
16:52Defense has stood pretty tall.
17:02If you joined us late, Bengals played their first-team offense for the first quarter.
17:07And Joe Burrow looked a lot like Joe Burrow.
17:10Jamar Chase looked a lot like Jamar Chase.
17:13Since that time, though, the Eagles have really dug in defensively.
17:16That was Nickerson in coverage on that far side.
17:31Eagles have three Toledo Rockets on the field right now.
17:38And they're not going to put Quinion Mitchell out there, but they could.
17:40Both linebackers, Dallas Gantt and Lance Dixon,
17:44as well as the safety, Maxson Hook.
17:48They could have four Toledo Rockets on the field at the same time.
17:56Ritter throwing.
17:57Sky in it.
17:58Well over the head of his intended receiver, Jordan Moore.
18:01And the reason, one of the reasons I think they have so many guys from Toledo
18:06is because Toledo's head coach, Jason Candle,
18:10was a teammate of Nick Sirianni's in college and then coached him for a year.
18:14So those guys know each other very well.
18:17As you see, the linebackers are playing tonight.
18:19And obviously, N'Kobe Dean not on that list after the knee injury.
18:25You'd have to expect it'll be a while before N'Kobe's able to get back on the field.
18:29A lot of depth in linebacker, though.
18:34Third down, they've got to get it to the 25.
18:37This time, Ritter's throw is caught, but nowhere to run for more.
18:41That is well done again by Castro Fields.
18:44Let him catch it in front of you.
18:46It's third and ten.
18:49Rally to the football, make the tackle.
18:50Castro Fields, year three, he's played some ball from the DMV area,
18:55went to Penn State, drafted by the Commanders, spent some time in San Francisco.
19:00But you can tell sometimes the guys that are rookies
19:03and the guys that are in their third year like Castro Fields
19:06and have been around the block a little bit.
19:11Evan McPherson has a big leg.
19:14This is going to be a 51-yard attempt for him.
19:19As the Bengals try to get some points off the turnover.
19:25And he got it.
19:31So a 14-point game now with just under nine minutes left to go.
19:36This weekend is about the beginning of the preseason games.
19:40Last weekend in Canton, Ohio, it's about Eric Allen
19:44inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
19:47Got his gold jacket, gave his speech,
19:50recounted some of his best moments as a player,
19:53talked to him a couple of times.
19:56And that period of time, he just loved being a part of that gangrene defense.
20:03And his specialty was making plays after he got the ball in his hands,
20:07including four pick sixes in one season.
20:10They were so good.
20:11Congratulations to Eric.
20:13That was my heyday right there.
20:1588 to 94, nine years old to 15 years old.
20:19I think I could still name maybe every starter on the 91 defense.
20:25Even some backups.
20:27Golik, Clyde Simmons, Reggie White, Mike Pitts, Byron Evans,
20:31Seth Joyner, William Thomas, Wes Hopkins, Andre Waters, Eric Allen, Ben Smith.
20:36How do you like me now, Scott?
20:38What a great job.
20:40Izell Jenkins, maybe?
20:42Maybe.
20:42Well, Eric Allen, great career here in Philadelphia.
20:52Then after a not-so-great experience in New Orleans,
20:56went on to have almost a second career with the Raiders.
21:00Well-deserving after a long wait of the Hall of Fame accolades that he got last week.
21:05All right, I know we still got all the diehards with us here.
21:09Fourth quarter, preseason game number one.
21:13Let's see what we got with Kyle McCord here.
21:15They also have Lakin Vakalahi in the left guard.
21:20A little pitch play to Powell.
21:23And Powell kind of lassoed on his way out of bounds after a pickup of four or five.
21:32Let's watch Vakalahi here.
21:34Remember, last year against the Vikings,
21:36that was his first time ever playing in a football game.
21:40I don't love the angle there.
21:41Probably should have gone a little bit wider, but he got the job done.
21:45Really curious to see how much progress he's made after a year of playing the sport.
21:52You know, he's the Australian exemption,
21:54so he gets to be on the practice squad no matter what.
21:59You know, it's funny,
22:00and I'm not trying to draw unnecessary or unfair comparisons.
22:05But it wasn't all that long ago, maybe seven years ago or so,
22:10we were saying in the preseason.
22:12I wonder what kind of progress that guy has made in his one year playing the sport.
22:18You know, you had the number one grade of any player in football last year in pro football focus?
22:25Yes, I do know that, because in 2018, I wasn't doing the Eagles preseason yet,
22:29and sitting on my couch, I tweeted that I thought my lot of was so impressive.
22:34He might be an all-pro someday, and thank you so much, Jordan, for making me look good.
22:39Second-team all-pro last year.
22:42McCord gets away from Pursuit, lofted it up there,
22:47but there wasn't enough room on that far sideline for Taylor Marin to make the catch.
22:54So let's take a look at our guy playing in his second-ever football game.
22:58Vakalahi, okay?
22:59He's going to be one-on-one, a little bit of a bull, one-arm stab,
23:03and then he gets his arms knocked down.
23:07You know, just because you're in practice, that is not the same as—
23:11Can you imagine your first time ever playing a sport is at the professional level?
23:16Not easy.
23:16Like Mailata, he was a rugby player, but American football is just so different.
23:23Powell, that quick burst again at the outside.
23:27I think it's positive yardage.
23:29Clock keeps moving.
23:33It's remarkable what he's become, Mailata.
23:38I mean, obviously, he's got incredible physical ability,
23:42but a lot of these guys have awesome physical ability.
23:45I mean, look at the guys out there for the Eagles right now.
23:47They're both 6'8", 6'7", long arms.
23:52Jeff Stoutland deserves a ton of credit,
23:54not only for how good the offensive line is in general,
23:56but in particular, the development with Mailata.
23:59Well, he deserves and receives a lot of the credit from his own players
24:05any time they talk about him.
24:08That was kind of a touch throw for Morin down the right sideline
24:13and a little bit too strong for McCord.
24:16He's going to bring the punting unit out with 6.40 left.
24:18He had him, but again, with the lack of reps,
24:23you know, you wonder how many times has he actually thrown that route
24:26to Taylor Morin.
24:31Morin played six years at Wake Forest,
24:34graduated summa cum laude as an engineering major.
24:38Summa cum laude, laude, what do you think?
24:46Go halfway in between.
24:47I think you can tell I wasn't that.
24:54Well, truth be told,
24:55you had some trouble with months yesterday in our meeting, so...
24:58But these things happen.
25:03Let's bring Dave Spadaro into the conversation
25:05now here in the fourth quarter.
25:06Spad, you take a look at guys who had an opportunity
25:09to make an impression and a lasting impression after game.
25:12Yeah, I mean, I think we all had questions
25:14about the wide receivers and who would emerge,
25:16and we saw three of them emerge.
25:18We saw Cooper and Wilson and Aniah Smith really show up,
25:22and Smith adds the explosive play with the pun return.
25:26Really important that the Eagles see some depth
25:29behind their starters,
25:31and then Jahan Dotson also had a strong game.
25:33Linebackers, you know, Campbell around the football
25:35needs to secure the ball when he has an opportunity to do so.
25:38Mondin probably had a little bit of a lesson tonight
25:41learning about the game of football at the NFL level
25:44and the tempo of the game here.
25:45And then I think cornerback is also a position
25:48that we talked about,
25:49and did Ringo really step up?
25:52No, he had a tough night.
25:53So the Eagles will have some competition
25:56when they get back to practice on Saturday
25:58with their new quarterback.
26:00So the questions that we had going in
26:03maybe get a little bit closer being answered
26:05with this game tonight.
26:07Certainly Tanner McKee, no doubt about it.
26:09A terrific performance as the number two quarterback.
26:11Nobody within the Eagles organization
26:13has any doubt at all
26:14that if he has to play,
26:16he will play very, very well.
26:18The ball thrown way on top by Desmond Ritter,
26:21and it turns into a completion.
26:25Running that down, Jamoy Mays,
26:27a rookie out of Cincinnati.
26:28Desmond Ritter, that's one of the best throws
26:30I've ever seen him make.
26:32Top of your screen is going to be a deep post.
26:35Perry Nickerson looks like he's in man-to-man coverage.
26:39That's tough.
26:39I don't know where the safety is in the middle of the field,
26:42but that's asking a lot to have a corner
26:45cover a guy on a deep post with no help like that.
26:49And Nickerson was still right there,
26:51almost made a play on the football.
26:52It was a great throw,
26:54but if he let him, it's probably a touchdown.
26:55Now, that one way too much down the sideline.
27:02Trying to go back to the well with Mays.
27:07The other thing you've got to remember here
27:09is Ringo and company all finished their night's work,
27:13and now the evaluations will come.
27:16The work starts next week.
27:18Next week's a different kind of week.
27:19Well, yeah, the two joint practices.
27:22And you wonder, you know,
27:23obviously Ringo did not have a great night.
27:25He was also going against maybe the best receiver in the NFL.
27:28But in fairness, you know,
27:30if he's going to be a starting quarterback for the Eagles,
27:31he's going to go against good receivers.
27:33Although, interestingly,
27:35they've been moving around
27:36when Jan Mitchell at practice
27:38so that he has the ability to travel
27:41with an elite receiver like Chase
27:44if Fangio would elect to do that.
27:46So next week, as we said, it's different.
27:48Wednesday and Thursday, the Browns will be in town.
27:51There will be joint practices both days,
27:53and that's really all the regulars
27:55getting all their reps in
27:56and going close to full speed,
27:59as you're going to see,
27:59almost like a game.
28:01And then the game will come
28:03on Saturday at 1 p.m.
28:05here at the link.
28:06Those two joint practices, Scott,
28:08are probably the two most important days
28:10for this Eagles football team
28:12leading into the regular season.
28:18Wow.
28:20Ritter could have easily run for the first down.
28:24He elects to throw it
28:25because he's got an open cold Burgess,
28:28and Burgess just drops it.
28:29I bet you Ritter runs it the next time.
28:34I mean, look at that.
28:35There is nowhere to go.
28:38Nobody around, I should say,
28:40to tackle him,
28:41and that's one where Ritter
28:44would have been better off tucking it away.
28:45They're going to go for it here on fourth down.
28:47Big play.
28:48Ritter was 8-9 as a starter
28:50for the Atlanta Falcons.
28:53Trying to get his team down to the 32-yard line
28:55to keep this going.
28:57Got his man.
28:58He's got his first down.
29:00And a security blanket
29:01and a big tight end in Hudson
29:03making the catch
29:04and getting all the way down
29:05to the 19-yard line.
29:0719 on the play,
29:08and the drive continues to the Bengals.
29:10Yeah, I mean, fourth down
29:12and that distance,
29:14I'm not sure why the Eagles are dropping.
29:16Watch the second-level guys.
29:18I mean, they get so much depth.
29:20It's like they totally forgot
29:22that Tanner Hudson was an eligible receiver.
29:26That's a mental error by someone.
29:28It should never be that easy
29:29to convert a fourth and medium like that.
29:33Bengals in the red zone.
29:34Ritter throwing.
29:35Right back to Hudson.
29:37And he dances out of bounds.
29:40With an assist from Max and Hook.
29:42That stops the block with 3.38 left to go
29:44after a pickup of seven.
29:46Max and Hook, four-year starter at Toledo.
29:49Led the team in tackles.
29:53He's a guy that probably would have been drafted
29:55if he had better measurables, right?
29:57He's more of a baller than he is a workout guy
30:01at the combine or a pro day.
30:03But guys that fit that description,
30:06their best chances to make it
30:07are typically linebacker, safety, offensive line.
30:12And your linebacker and safety especially
30:14premiums on the football intelligence.
30:18Touch throw.
30:19It's there.
30:20Does he make the catch?
30:21He does.
30:22They're calling it a touchdown.
30:24Hudson did bring it in.
30:26Did both feet get in?
30:27If they did, that's a 12-yard touchdown.
30:29We got a one-score game.
30:31Catch.
30:32Left foot.
30:33That right foot's close.
30:35I think he got it in.
30:36That right foot is close.
30:39That's an experienced player right there.
30:41Left foot.
30:42Watch the right.
30:44Ooh.
30:46Tough to tell from that angle.
30:49From that angle.
30:50Oh, this will be the best one.
30:54I think he's in.
30:55I don't know how you overturn it.
31:00I think he just got that right foot down
31:02in time.
31:03Probably a good thing he's wearing
31:04white cleats, right?
31:05White on white, you can't see as well
31:07if he was wearing darker cleats.
31:09So touchdown stands.
31:12And as stated, we've got ourselves
31:13a one-score game now.
31:18It'll be a seven-point game
31:20with 3.33 to go.
31:26Eight-play, 92-yard drive.
31:29That big play to Jamoy Mays
31:33opening it up.
31:35So your notable players tonight.
31:36Tanner McKee was marvelous.
31:38Three total touchdowns, 252 yards.
31:41Will Shipley ran the ball well.
31:43Darius Cooper absolutely was eye-opening
31:46with his six catches
31:47and a touchdown.
31:49Jihad Campbell got onto the field,
31:55made some plays,
31:56missed out an opportunity
31:57for a tip-ball interception.
31:59But for him, it's got to just feel so good
32:01to get back to playing football again.
32:04No doubt.
32:05He was so excited about it.
32:07He said it was going to be surreal
32:08to take the field as a Philadelphia Eagle.
32:11Throwing up around here
32:13as a big Eagles fan.
32:15As you see, Will Shipley.
32:16But Campbell was, you know,
32:18I just rattled off the 91 defense.
32:21I didn't mention Jerome Brown.
32:22I should have.
32:23I went already to Golik, his backup.
32:25But Jihad Campbell, his favorite Eagles?
32:28LaShawn McCoy, Brian Dawkins,
32:30Trent Cole, and Deshaun Jackson.
32:33It's a pretty good fearsome foursome there, Scott.
32:35That's a very good mix, too.
32:36So, on the return now.
32:43Carlton Robinson gets it out across the 20,
32:46up near the 24.
32:48Eagles need to move the ball here.
32:51Right?
32:51They're trying to win the ball game.
32:53Four minutes.
32:54Well, 328.
32:55Both teams still have all their timeouts.
32:59Eagles going real deep
33:02along the offensive line.
33:04Holland Pierce,
33:06the big undrafted rookie pre-agent from Rutgers,
33:08I believe is in for the first time.
33:10Keegan,
33:11last year's draft pick out of Michigan,
33:13is getting some snaps at center.
33:15And they still got Vakalahi in at left guard.
33:20But the aim now is to get a couple of first downs
33:22and run the clock.
33:24There you go.
33:24There's your first first down.
33:25We got a flag on the play.
33:26Oh.
33:27We got a flag on the left guard.
33:28We got a flag on the left guard.
33:29We got a flag on the left guard.
33:30We got a flag on the left guard.
33:31We got a flag on the left guard.
33:32We got a flag on the left guard.
33:32We got a flag on the left guard.
33:32Holding.
33:33Office number 73.
33:3510-yard penalty.
33:37Repeat first down.
33:39Well, Cameron Williams gets called for the hold,
33:41and that negates that big first down run.
33:44Eagles 10 penalties tonight for 80 yards.
33:47Watch the sixth-round pick out of Texas.
33:49Cameron Williams.
33:51It's a run to the right.
33:52Watch his hands.
33:53Yeah, you can't do that.
33:54He's already outside the framework, right?
33:56So watch when the defender tries to disengage.
33:59He won't let him.
34:00He's pulling him.
34:01That is a blatant hold,
34:03and that's one of the reasons why Cameron didn't go until the sixth round.
34:08He had a ton of penalties and inconsistency at Texas.
34:18Not much on first down.
34:19Clock continues to move.
34:21We'll see what the Bengals decide to do with regard to their timeouts.
34:26Zach Taylor trying to get his team one more opportunity, perhaps,
34:32to score and get this game tied up.
34:34And, you know, that's something that Williams hopefully will learn from, Scott.
34:38You can get away sometimes with having your hands outside at the start of the play,
34:43but then you replace them, right?
34:45You bring them back inside.
34:47You don't keep them out there, so if the running back bounces it out,
34:50you're going to get called for a blatant hold.
34:52And now Robinson is dropped,
34:58and a quick timeout for the Bengals is expected with 2.32 to go.
35:02They've got two left.
35:04Eagles are going to have a third down and a bunch here.
35:06Bengals try to force a three and out to get the football back.
35:12Isaiah Thomas making that tackle.
35:16Probably a good time to remind everybody there is no overtime in the preseason.
35:23So if the Bengals score, you would like to think,
35:26if they get the ball here, that they would go for two.
35:29But I guess you never know.
35:31Maybe they like ties.
35:33I doubt it.
35:37Cincinnati, kind of a weird thing.
35:40They were in back-to-back AFC championships in the last two years,
35:43nine and eight.
35:45Missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
35:50Well, certainly, as much as Eagles fans are going to be talking about Tanner McKee,
35:55tomorrow Bengals fans are going to be talking about that defense.
35:57Third down, staying on the ground, forcing them to use the timeouts.
36:05And Cincinnati will use their second with 2.28 to go.
36:11So now here comes the punting unit.
36:13And the Bengals, it looks like, will get the ball back with some time on the clock.
36:18You know what's funny, too, Scott, in these situations is everybody will tell you nobody cares about the one-loss record in the preseason.
36:26And it's just about getting ready for the regular season.
36:29And it doesn't matter.
36:31I'm telling you right now, all these players and coaches really want to win this game.
36:36Whether they say it publicly or not, they just want to go in after the game and feel good about the reward that they had,
36:45that they got a victory.
36:47And so they're both going to do everything they can to try to get this win over the last two and a half minutes.
36:54Mann's trying to get a good putt away here.
36:56We're playing situational football late in the game.
36:58Isaiah Williams, who was the primary return man for Cincinnati late last year, waiting to return it.
37:08That's a boomer.
37:10Big one.
37:11All the way back inside the 15.
37:15A little bit of a lane to the outside, but a flag down on the play.
37:18In fact, two of them coming in.
37:20As Isaiah Williams makes it out here to the 35-yard line.
37:2665 yards on the punt.
37:28During the return, illegal block in the back.
37:32Receiving team number 45.
37:3410-yard penalty.
37:35First down.
37:44So the defense now comes out.
37:48Here are the players re-signed in the offseason.
37:52Zach Vaughn, what a year last year.
37:54Saquon Barkley, take that plus.
37:56Lane Johnson, who we talked to earlier.
37:59And Cam Juergens as well.
38:01And that's what the Eagles do.
38:03When they identify a core player, a guy that's a really good player, they reward them and they do it early.
38:11Evidently, not every team in the division necessarily feels the same way.
38:14And Hallie Roseman does an amazing job of not just putting the competitive team on the field, Ross, but looking ahead to how to stay competitive moving forward.
38:29There's no doubt that he always has one eye on this year, but one eye on the future.
38:36And I'm past talking about him as the best GM in the NFL.
38:39I don't follow the other sports as closely, but I'm wondering, are there front office executives in the other sports that are better than him?
38:47Because he's as good as it gets in pro football.
38:50Ritter throwing.
38:51Too high.
38:52For Mays, and that's going to bring up third down now for the Bengals.
38:57We still have 2-0-8 left to go.
38:59So the Bengals can stop the clock two more times.
39:04But they've got to get a first down first.
39:07And we'll see if the Eagles, do they come with a straight rush and let these guys out there like Gabe Hall and Ty Robinson straight rush?
39:15Or do they run some type of stunt?
39:18Antoine Powell-Ryland's 52 right there at 16 sacks for Virginia Tech last year.
39:25Let's see if somebody can get home.
39:29Ritter on third down.
39:32Dumps it down low, and the hurdle doesn't work for Tanner Hudson.
39:37Maxson Hook wasn't going to be denied.
39:39He gets the tackle.
39:41The Bengals will take one of their two remaining timeouts.
39:45Oh, check that.
39:48It is the two-minute warning.
39:49That's the preseason for everybody.
39:51Eagles lead it by seven.
39:5634-27, two minutes to go.
39:59Let's take a look at our player of the game.
40:01Presented by Independence, official health insurance partner of the Philadelphia Eagles.
40:05No doubt about who that is.
40:07Yeah, I mean, they didn't ask us.
40:08We didn't get a vote.
40:09But we both would have picked Tanner McKee, that's for sure.
40:12Just an incredible performance by him.
40:15Yet again, it feels like he's played well in any opportunities he's been given with this organization.
40:22And, man, you can see why the Eagles felt very comfortable to trade Kenny Pickett and make Tanner McKee the number two quarterback.
40:32He is exactly what you're looking for as a backup quarterback.
40:38And we talked about earlier, you know, he's making the third-year minimum.
40:41There are years where the Eagles have paid upwards of $6, $7, $8 million for backup quarterbacks.
40:48So with all these good players on the team, you've got to save money somewhere.
40:51And right now, they're saving money at number two quarterback.
40:54And that gives them a lot of flexibility, as you said, in that way.
40:57But the other thing that jumps out to me is if anybody, and probably nobody in that locker room or in that coaching room,
41:04had any doubt, if anybody who's watching had any doubt about whether or not they had a backup quarterback
41:10who could step in and help them win a game before tonight, I understand it's a preseason game.
41:14But you have to look at the reads he was making, the quickness with which he was throwing,
41:18the accuracy with which he delivered the ball.
41:21All of that was right there.
41:22And you know why I think it matters so much?
41:25You know, Hurts has, I think, missed a game, a game or two every year.
41:29He kind of gets banged up with the way he runs.
41:32Last year was just a concussion.
41:35But if Tanner McKee has to play in a game or two or more,
41:39those guys are going to have a lot of confidence in him.
41:42Because all they've ever done is seen him play well, just like us.
41:46And I think that's huge.
41:48You know, I've been in the huddle with starting quarterbacks.
41:50Then the backup quarterback comes in, and you're thinking, uh-oh.
41:53When Tanner McKee comes in, those guys aren't going to be thinking, uh-oh.
41:57They're going to be thinking, here we go.
42:01Well, this is whether or not we've got a ball game for the last two minutes.
42:05Fourth down.
42:07Bengals have to get to the 30.
42:10Ritter throwing.
42:12That's incomplete.
42:14Castro Fields there for the coverage.
42:17Good coverage downfield on Rashad Owens.
42:20And the Eagles will take over on downs at 156 left.
42:24And Castro Fields was three for three tonight.
42:27In terms of making plays, they tested them.
42:30It's man-to-man coverage.
42:32You know, they're not going to throw the flag unless they feel like
42:35someone's getting the advantage.
42:38They thought it was fair play there with Castro Fields and the Bengals' receiver,
42:45Rashad Owens.
42:46No call.
42:47Terrific job by Castro Fields, who made three big plays here in the second half
42:51for the Eagles.
42:52I think all three in the fourth quarter.
42:54Cincinnati does have the ability to stop the clock once.
42:58I doubt they'll do that.
43:04But the Eagles running the ball.
43:07Just in case they do.
43:09But it appears as though this one is counting its way down.
43:16And like you said, it's a preseason game.
43:19Will anybody remember in November whether they won this game?
43:22Probably not.
43:23But will it matter to them tonight and tomorrow that they did?
43:28And the answer is yes.
43:29Well, and Scott, let's not forget for people that tuned in late,
43:33the Bengals played their starters the whole first quarter.
43:36So that should give them a significant advantage in the outcome of the game.
43:41If they're playing their ones and the Eagles did not play very many of their starters,
43:46just really the guys that are battling for jobs.
43:48And yet, the Eagles still were going to come out on top.
43:53Well, the Eagles haven't put up a lot of offense over the course of this fourth quarter,
43:56and they still have more than 430 total yards in this game.
44:01That says a lot.
44:04Terrific start for Tyler Steen, who looks ready to go here in year three.
44:11And they've got a big, big week coming up against Cleveland.
44:14Wednesday and Thursday, that'll be a lot of starters.
44:18Tigers against starters.
44:20Eagles against the Browns to make sure the Birds' first stringers are ready for that Thursday night home opener here against Dallas.
44:28And this will be your last play of a ball game.
44:33As this one will come to an end,
44:36Nick Sirianni doesn't need to run another play.
44:39And Tanner McKee and his teammates will leave with a preseason opening victory by a final of 34-27.
44:58You're a coach, many ways a good night, Ross, because you've got some good performances and some things to work on.
45:04That's ideal, right?
45:05Obviously, the Eagles had a lot of positives in spots where they wanted to see them, especially quarterback and receiver.
45:12And they've got some things to work on, and that's exactly what they'll do right back to work tomorrow for the Birds.
45:18Thanks for joining us for the first game of the 2025 preseason.
45:21Join us next Saturday at 1.
45:23Eagles taking on the Cleveland Browns right here in Lincoln Financial Field.
45:26Stay tuned to NBC10 for the postgame show.
45:29For Ross Tucker and Dave Spadaro, our entire crew, I'm Scott Graham.
45:32Good night from Lincoln Financial Field.
