00:00CBS Sports welcomes you to the following presentation of the National Football League.
00:09Star power and stakes the recipe for a fun one at Pacor Stadium here in Cincy fans in all orange.
00:34Liam Cohen head coach for the Jaguars game number two shared a staff on the other sideline Zach Taylor they were both together with the Rams back in 2018 Taylor was a quarterback coach Liam Cohen was the assistant wide receivers coach have a good relationship.
00:51One in Cincinnati fans filing in early Zach Taylor made it known to the fan base here in Cincy he wanted the butts in the seats at least 10 minutes before kickoff and they showed up Sam Hubbard welcome to jungle and they are packed sea of orange out there Liam Cohen won the toss and took the ball he wants to start on offense.
01:19So the Jaguars to get the football first McPherson kicks off and this is Parker Washington from the end zone and Washington dances to the 30 he's upended and as you mentioned last week the Jaguars hit the football scored points on their opening drive they take the football here and Trevor Lawrence looking to start 2-0 for the first time in his career.
01:45Jackson Bell started past life last week getting an impressive win I love Trevor Lawrence and this system of Liam Cohen he has more responsibility at the line of scrimmage he played within the game last year this would be a much tougher test from the day on the road against the Bengals defense.
02:03First play from the 31 and Lawrence on a quick slant a feature to get the ball to Brian Thomas Jr. who only had one catch in the opener Dax Hill on the coverage.
02:25And I got my eye on Brian Thomas there only one catch last week getting started quickly.
02:30Etienne had a dominant game with 143 rush yards and anytime Trey Henderson's on the field you better have a game plan for him.
02:37League high eight pressures in week one.
02:40Got the Rays heading into this season Travis Hunter in on the slot bottom of the screen.
02:52Hunter's in motion.
02:53Lawrence off play action on second down setting up the screen as it completes Travis Etienne out of the backfield can't reach it in our first third down of the afternoon.
03:03Well you can anticipate it's going to be loud. The crowd's already deafening. You see Trevor Lawrence is trying his best to check plays at the line of scrimmage.
03:12But listen to this crowd noise here and you see an orange on third down.
03:205 of 12 last week on third down. That's okay but it's going to be tougher on third down.
03:263 to go. Lawrence with time. Swings near side. It is caught.
03:35Diami Brown the former Washington commander brings it in. D.J. Turner on the coverage.
03:43Diami Brown acquired from the commanders made a lot of key catches on third down last week.
03:48He had a fourth down conversion and he's the explosive receiver the downfield threat.
03:52I know you're worried about Thomas and I know you're worried about Hunter.
03:56But Diami Brown has been a key addition.
03:58Picked up 18 yards on that play and adding some speed to this offense.
04:04A lot of new toys as you mentioned in Florence. First half in plus territory.
04:10Zinging over the middle. There's Thomas. Slides at the 25.
04:15So Bryant Thomas has already exceeded his week one reception total here on this opening drive.
04:21That's not hard. We only have one reception last week. Get ready to beat that.
04:25Simple sitting down in the zone. Where's everybody at? I need Al Golden to tighten up this defense.
04:31For the Bengals. This is not what they did last week. I think they're putting too much respect on the Bengals receiver this early.
04:37Back to back plays of 18 yards.
04:47That was only three opening drive touchdowns on the road since 2021. Keeping it moving here with ETN.
04:54Off left side and gets a couple. Dax Hill and Logan Wilson combined on the tackle.
05:02Al Golden came over from Notre Dame. Boy, do they miss him right now.
05:06And he's bringing over a new defense. They played really well last week. You see, last season's not great.
05:12They had two turnovers and only 46 rushing yards allowed. They gotta tighten up the run defense like it just did.
05:18Tough loss to Texas A&M. Producer Deb Boulak. Went on an epic rant about it.
05:24Before the game. Before the game. Before the game.
05:29ETN lined up wide on second and seven. Lawrence floats. Brenton Strange slips in the pass wide.
05:38I really like the clean pockets Trevor Lawrence is getting. He has time. He seems comfortable.
05:44That one went errant there, that throw. But it's because Strange slips at the top of the route there. Gets bumped and loses his footing.
05:51But that might have been open as well. What do the Bengals do on this third down?
05:55You cannot allow Trevor Lawrence to be this comfortable. I would love to see they bring pressure on him and heat him up.
06:01And Logan, you highlighted at the top Trey Hendrickson. These are the situations that BN lives for.
06:08Trey Hendrickson right there. You see him, 91. There has to be a plan for him at the bottom of your screen.
06:17It's Laquint Allen Jr., the rookie from Syracuse in and running back. And the Jaguars need more time to talk about it.
06:23First coach timeout. Jacksonville. 32nd timeout.
06:27So a timeout for Liam Cohen's team. The aggressive head coach. We saw it on the first drive the Jaguars had in week one against the Panthers.
06:36They went for it on a fourth down in their own territory. And Trevor Lawrence's team made him look smart with that decision.
06:43And he looks good right now. Look at the clean pockets. He's taking his time. Chunk plays. Jacksonville won the toss and took the ball.
06:50As a former defensive player, that's disrespectful. You're not having that.
06:54You're not having that. But Liam Cohen believes in scoring first. That gives you a huge advantage for the rest of the game.
07:00And they don't want to just get a field goal. They want to get a touchdown on this one.
07:03Well, he mentioned going back to his time in Tampa studies of, hey, you get the ball, you score first.
07:09That's even more valuable than that double possession that you could have in the first half beginning of second.
07:16You see all the pressure at the line of scrimmage there.
07:23Some back off. They rush four. Lawrence examines. Sidearm throw to Strange.
07:29He has the first down. The second conversion on third down for Jacksonville on this opening drive.
07:37This one's on the offensive line with great protection. And Strange, nice little whip route, finding the empty zone there.
07:44Brenton Strange had a great game last week. He is the glue guy to this offense.
07:48He had two touchdown ceiling blocks. Crucial catches. And he's really a guy you cannot forget about all these weapons at Trevor Lawrence.
07:57Etienne up the middle. Gets inside the 10-yard line. Joseph Osai on the stop.
08:06And when you start with the ball, you're driving it down the field. The only way the defense can get a win now is to hold him to three.
08:13That's what you're thinking. The game changes in the red zone. We've got to tighten up the coverage. Tighten up the pass rush game.
08:19And hold Jacksonville to three points.
08:22See, Logan Wilson, strong member of the Cincinnati linebacking court.
08:26Travis Hunter back in. You can see him in motion from the bottom to the top of the screen.
08:32Takes the snap. Lawrence, pocket, rifles, back of the end zone. Hold in. De'Ami Brown pays it off. A smooth opening drive for Jacksonville.
08:49That's one way to silence the sea of orange. They came out and they were loud. But if you don't get a pass rush, it's going to be a long day.
09:01Look at the pocket for Trevor Lawrence. Nobody at his feet. De'Ami Brown, the explosive playmaker they added to this.
09:07Has been open all day long. The Bengals have not been tight enough in the pass rush or the coverage in this first drive.
09:14Well, we talked about, Logan, top of the show. How Cincinnati, a rare defensive win. How strong they played on that side of the ball in week one.
09:23Well, Jacksonville takes the ball. Goes nine plays, 69 yards as Cam Little drills the extra point.
09:32And De'Ami Brown, from nine yards away, his first touchdown as a Jaguar.
09:37De'Ami Brown gets both the feet in. Cross the T's. Dot your I's, brother. That's seven points for Jacksonville.
09:48CBS Premier Week.
09:52The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Capital One. What's in your wallet?
09:59Him's health care designed for you and delivered to your door. And by McDonald's.
10:15OK, that's a meme worthy photo. Little side eye. Yeah, no doubt.
10:19Now, I remember in our meeting, as you could see, the Jags and Bengals were in that game.
10:23It was loaded that 2019 championship.
10:25What would Bill Belichick have to say about what Joe Burrow told us that since it was a pretty much a home game for LSU in the Superdome,
10:32that the team was focused on the celebration after the game heading into it?
10:36Joe said they already had it won. And he, boy, he wasn't lying.
10:39That was a game that he remembered vividly. Trevor Lawrence says he tries to forget it.
10:43But both the quarterbacks actually played well in that game. Joe Burrow just a little bit better.
10:47That was just two loaded rosters going at it. Fun title.
10:51I don't know.
10:53Tamaj P. Ryan on this return for the Bengals gets lit up.
10:58Right after 25.
11:00Big hit by Yasir Abdullah.
11:03So the head-to-head comparison between the two, both number one picks, back-to-back seasons.
11:09And Joe Burrow in the NFL has had more success.
11:12Well, Trevor Lawrence, I feel like, has a fresh start. But Joe Burrow is that man. He is that guy for a reason.
11:18And he needs to bounce back today. Not his best game last week.
11:21And they're down 7-0. So Joe Cool's got to get him back in the game.
11:25Spread it out on a first down from the 26. Run up the middle for Chase Brown. Not much there.
11:38Let's check in with Tiff.
11:39Well, how Logan just mentioned how, you know, they're down right now, these Bengals are.
11:43When we talked to Joe Burrow about shaking off what happened last week.
11:46Obviously trying to shake off what's happening in this game.
11:48He said his process is just that you can't get frustrated.
11:51He has to stay focused on being in the present.
11:53And in times where their defense was playing well, like last week,
11:56it's on the offense to execute no matter what the game is presenting.
11:59Tiff, it had to be encouraging for Burrow to have the team win
12:04without him having to carry it in the way that the team had to do last year.
12:10Burrow in the pocket. That ball slapped away.
12:12Right now, Rule deflected. And now they whistle an incomplete.
12:16Well, Trayvon Walker coming, hauling in.
12:20Alon Smoot wants the touchdown.
12:22But they say it's incomplete with the arm going forward.
12:28The refs blow the play dead. They've ruled it incomplete.
12:31Let's see if this ball, that gets smacked out of his hands.
12:35I would love to see how the Jaguars handled this.
12:40I see the arm come forward, but that is worth the Jags coaching staff taking another view.
12:45I haven't seen a challenge flag yet.
12:53And finally a whistle, and there it is.
12:56So you mentioned it for Liam Cohen and his team.
12:59This is a potential huge swing here in this first quarter
13:03after getting the opening drive touchdown.
13:06They could have the football just shy of the red zone.
13:09Joe Burrow is challenging the ruling on the field with a forward pass.
13:12Time out.
13:16Alan Eck is our referee.
13:18So they'll take a look at it in the ruling when we return.
13:23So the call on the field of an incomplete pass stands.
13:30We bring in Gene Starator.
13:31Gene, what did you see?
13:33Yeah, you know what, Chris?
13:34Really tight play.
13:35But if you watch Joe Burrow, all you need to have is really like a camera frame, right?
13:40And the arm moving forward with possession.
13:42Great shot here.
13:43You see Burrow rise.
13:44And that arm just starts forward before contact was made by Walker.
13:48That's a forward pass.
13:49Good job.
13:50Incomplete.
13:51Appreciate that.
13:52And it's regardless an example of what this Jaguars bookend pass rushers,
13:58what they could do to make Burrow uncomfortable.
14:00Here's a third and nine.
14:02Again, uncomfortable.
14:03Sidesteps away, but can't escape.
14:06And brought down in the backfield.
14:08Eric Armstead and Foye Aloikian are both there.
14:12That brings up fourth down.
14:14This was the Bengals problem last week.
14:19The O-line not be able to keep Joe Burrow up and at him.
14:23They're going to have to get better really quickly.
14:26We'll be back in 30 seconds right after this from the Home Depot.
14:32Behind every DIY.
14:34It's more help than you think.
14:36Try this for a clean line.
14:39Nice.
14:40Sometimes help is delivered.
14:42It's a punt on fourth down from Cincinnati, Ryan Rico.
14:58And it brings the Jags back on the field with 916 to go in the first.
15:03It was a nine play drive to get the game's opening score for Trevor Lawrence and company.
15:08If I'm a Jags fan or a football fan in general, I am impressed with Liam Cohen and what he's doing with this offense and this team.
15:17They are taking the ball.
15:18They are starting fast.
15:19They're making plays defensively.
15:21And now Trevor Lawrence has a chance to lead a team down the field once again.
15:25Key fifth gear for Trevor Lawrence who spread the ball around the four different receivers on drive one.
15:44They shall tune in at running back on first down gets the carry.
15:50And tootin shows off the footwork across the 30 yard line.
15:54That's Hill the first to tag him.
15:56Of course, Jacksonville made the move this past week trading tanks tank big speed of Philadelphia getting a couple of late round draft picks.
16:03They have confidence in the rookies deep on the depth chart.
16:06They have a good problem in their running back room.
16:08They love to in and look quit now in the third down back and they also have at TN as well.
16:14But to inch is the most explosive of the three running a 4 3 3 40 at the combine the fastest running back there.
16:233 wide with Bretton strange tight end Lawrence quick toss Brown who caught the touchdown right at the sticks.
16:36Give him the first right in front of Logan Wilson.
16:39Chris.
16:40Here's I think what's happening to the Bengals defense Al Golden comes out of Notre Dame running predominantly man-to-man coverage coming back to the NFL at Cincy.
16:48He wants to run more of a zone.
16:50He doesn't want to give up explosive plays.
16:52He wants to play a little softer softer shell defense.
16:55And I think Trevor Lawrence is taking advantage of that right now.
16:57He said specifically with that guy Joe Burrow on your squad.
17:02The last thing you want to do as a defensive coordinator is allow quick scores.
17:13On first play action fake Lawrence on the screen to tootin tootin who has that speed that Logan just mentioned across the 40.
17:21Hit hard down by Geno Stone.
17:24But those type of plays are why the Jags staff loves the rookie from Virginia Tech.
17:30Tootin put that speed on display.
17:34We talked about the movement of big speed was because of this guy.
17:38They loved him in the preseason.
17:39He can run with the ball in his hands.
17:41Fastest player on the field.
17:43Tootin is going to get a lot of love today from Liam Cullen in this offense.
17:48That's a 24 yard screen.
17:58All receivers to the near side.
17:59Lone tight end.
18:00Screens to the top of the screen.
18:03Once again Tootin carrying the load to the 30 yard line.
18:08Let's check in for a studio update for the first time in New York.
18:12Chris, we got a Puka Nakua 45 yard touchdown run.
18:17This is the longest run by a Ram since Todd Gurley.
18:22You've got to love sports.
18:23Chris, back to you.
18:24How the sidelines like that for Puka Nakua.
18:30Physical wide receiver.
18:32Really do it all player for the Rams.
18:38Jags back at the 30.
18:40Lawrence again with time.
18:43Contested ball at the 10.
18:45Parker Washington climbs the ladder.
18:47Well done to silence this crowd.
18:50Another huge chunk for the Jaguars.
18:53The Jags receiver core just making plays.
18:56You see Parker Washington 11 here running the corner route.
18:59Look at the high point ability.
19:01Oh my.
19:02The fourth receiver on the depth chart is playing like that.
19:05This Jags offense is real this year.
19:08Parker Washington climbed the ladder for that one.
19:10How many times have you been on the other end of the receiver doing something like that?
19:14I can't remember.
19:15I do not recall.
19:16Bleed the fifth actually.
19:18Inside the 10.
19:20First and goal.
19:22Lawrence looking near side.
19:24Throws that way.
19:25Another contested ball.
19:26And it completes.
19:27Tim Patrick was the receiver testing Cam Taylor Britt.
19:32I love Cam Taylor Britt responding though.
19:36As a DB.
19:37When the receivers are making plays.
19:39Someone's got to step up.
19:40And get one back.
19:41Cam Taylor Britt.
19:42Did not have the best game last week.
19:44He said that personally.
19:45But he's a guy that plays with an edge.
19:47Extremely feisty.
19:48Al Golden trying to find a way to disrupt Lawrence.
19:51Seems like in the first two drives he's had plenty of time.
19:55E.T.
19:56And Carey stood up near the line of scrimmage.
20:01And.
20:02Who's the pile for a yard.
20:03Right into the belly of BJ Hill.
20:04Third and goal upcoming.
20:05This is a crucial third down.
20:06For the Bengals defense.
20:07You got to stop the bleeding.
20:08Right.
20:09Jacksonville's been on a roll.
20:10But they want to finish with a touchdown here.
20:11This all going to come down to.
20:12Where does Trey Henderson line up.
20:13He's going to move around a little bit this game.
20:14We're going to try to get him home.
20:15My eyes will be on number 91.
20:16You see him lined up right here.
20:17Lawrence on third.
20:18There is that pressure from Hendrickson.
20:19Gets rid of it.
20:20And it is.
20:21And it is.
20:22It is.
20:23It is.
20:24It is.
20:25It is.
20:26It is.
20:27It is.
20:28It is.
20:29It is.
20:30It is.
20:31It is.
20:32It is.
20:33It is.
20:34It is.
20:35It is.
20:36It is.
20:37It is.
20:38It is.
20:40It is.
20:41It is.
20:42It is.
20:43It is.
20:44It is.
20:45It is.
20:46Intercepted.
20:47That all started from the pressure.
20:48And Dax Hill dances.
20:50Since he gets the stop.
20:51And the jungle lets him know.
21:00I was just talking about it.
21:01We call it his name.
21:02He delivered.
21:03Trey Henderson wins right away off the edge.
21:06Gives a layup alley-oop to his teammate.
21:10For the pick.
21:11cbs wednesday september 24th the nfl on cbs is sponsored by lowe's tackle your to-do list early
21:24with lowe's to earn your sunday and by verizon the nfl is powered by verizon 5g
21:32a fitting choice for the home opener open in orange the ruler of the jungle sam hubbard
21:44former captain who could certainly appreciate what trey hendrickson just did to disrupt lawrence
21:51and allow dax hill to make that int let's check in with tiff and guys what did hendrickson tell us
21:58in that meeting he said sam is ohio through and through it's got to be special to be invited
22:02back but he learned a lot from him about how to be a pro that was ohio connections
22:06first down joe burrow after the int and that roar is for jamar chase they say incompletes
22:15perhaps bobbling the ball on the sideline let's go back to the int let's go back to the dax hill
22:20interception you see him in the slot right there second down and you play dre hendrickson's pressure
22:25dax hill's actually beat but because that pressure led to the errant throw
22:31leads dax hill to a pick and you see the bobble there
22:35by chase he's so good at this this is what he does but he double catches the ball
22:40not able to get his feet in bounds and by the effort there from jorian jones to do just enough
22:45to disrupt
22:46so after the incompletion second down and ten chase brown around the edge uses the stiff arm it's a monster
22:59andrew winger got taken for a ride again of 11 from chase brown we talk about the receivers all the time
23:08but give chase brown some respect not the biggest receiver or running back but that's an accurate
23:13stiff arm there he runs hard he's their every down back he's going to be what's needed to get this
23:18game back in balance
23:19it was five straight three announced for cincinnati back to last week finally a first down
23:27chase brown took off the second half of last season one of the most productive bats in the league
23:33four in this pattern and chase on the board right in front of jorian jones
23:38jamar chase is not going to bobble two of them i'll tell you that he is so good at what he does
23:46jorian jones giving him respect jamar chase with a clean route snap down good eyes good hands good feet
23:52jorian jones funny enough with the quote of the week saying he'll guard anybody with eyebrows
23:57i didn't know what that means that means he will guard any human being he's not afraid of jamar chase
24:02i'm going to make a bold statement i feel like us in the booth have the biggest eyebrows
24:06combined of any cbs team so we better look out for jorian jones what you saying about my eyebrows
24:12i mean i just know mine three in this pattern as burrow slings it's complete with a flag down
24:18no offense on the reception and that penalty marker in the secondary
24:25fan caught a touchdown in his bengal's debut
24:30illegal contact number two defense
24:35that's jordan lewis
24:39jordan lewis hooking jamar chase there down the field he can't make that but when you're running
24:50and chasing sometimes you're fighting and scrambling and that's the issue with this
24:54bengal's offense so explosive great receivers all over the field and no offense another one of them
24:59we saw anthony campanelli somebody that you go way back with your time at ruckers
25:03from the 31 burrow has slipped out of his hands and ruled incomplete
25:14he went chasing but that ball slipped forward backs passing arm is going forward second down
25:20that's the second time that burrow right on the release one time disrupted that time no defense near
25:26him yeah this is a miscommunication burrow's ready to throw the ball his back puts in the ground
25:30the receiver doesn't run the right route so i know this looks like this on joe burrow
25:35he'd expect this ball out and his guy doesn't snap down he tries to take the ball back luckily
25:41that one is in a fumble as well
25:43fortunate to keep the ball two-time pro bowler who last year led the nfl in yards and passing touchdowns
25:54burrow right in traffic but it's caught t higgins
25:58let the crowd tell the story they're setting up third down
26:01cincinnati this drive has been spreading it out letting joe burrow see it picking one-on-one matchups
26:08jacksonville has played soft defense i anticipate them maybe tighten it up here on this third down you got to
26:15defend those sticks i know the receivers can beat you deep
26:18but five yards give you a first down here you got to defend that
26:21trayvon walker josh heinz allen the pass rushers jaguars pinching in showing blitz a lot at the line of scrimmage
26:33this looks like a blitz look here
26:34empty it out for burrow looks near side scrambles and throws jamar chase all the in cuts right at the 15
26:45in front of tyson campbell bengals in the red zone
26:48sitting down with joe burrow he told his mobility to extend plays his feet buys him time to find jamar chase in the zone
26:58you played with tom brady and you said that joe burrow of all the guys now has the most similarities
27:03in terms of how he plays the game from the pocket on time he doesn't extend plays like josh allen and
27:09jamar jackson doing but he said he's working on that and he showed those legs to extend the play there
27:14from the 15
27:19burrow has an open chase cuts up the field bumped out
27:23before he could stride to the end zone by josh heinz allen
27:27that is the 400th career reception for jamar chase
27:31jamar chase told us he missed a few opportunities last week only two catches
27:37he already got more than that this drive
27:40we haven't seen any travis hunter on defense
27:43indeed where's he supposed to be we were told that he's going to
27:46play on defense more because of the wide receivers
27:48they need to bring him out there we're seeing a lot of jarion jones
27:52in the secondary
27:53fifth fastest to reach 400
27:56drew sample the motion tight end
28:00ground up the middle
28:02stop three yards shy
28:05the one hamilton the nose tackle on the stop inside the final minute of the opening quarter
28:14to think how good these guys are Chris
28:17jamar chase
28:19has had a better first four years of his career than randy moss that's insane
28:22that's insane
28:24the triple crown winner last year that is such a dynamic weapon they have with t higgins on the other side of it
28:30the other side of it.
28:32And he says he handles not getting the ball
28:34much better than he did early in his career
28:36coming off of the two catches
28:38in week one against Cleveland.
28:42Burrow
28:42wheels, turns, looks, fires, and completes.
28:49Higgins the target.
28:51Tyson Campbell running step for step.
28:57That's Jari and Jones still down.
28:59And we mentioned we haven't seen Travis Hunter
29:00much defensively yet.
29:02Well, Jones is a member of that secondary.
29:05And if he has to miss time,
29:08it could mean a larger role for Hunter.
29:11Key third down coming up next from Cincy.
29:19Week 2 continues later today on CBS, Fox,
29:22and with Sunday Night Football on NBC.
29:24Then two games tomorrow night.
29:26Buccaneers-Texans on ESPN and ABC.
29:29Followed by Chargers-Raiders on ESPN.
29:32Then week three kicks off with Thursday Night Football
29:34on Prime Video.
29:35Stream games live on your mobile device
29:37with NFL+.
29:38That's Jari and Jones being assisted to the sideline
29:45in his second year out of Florida State.
29:50You can always count on Sundays with the NFL on CBS
29:53and Paramount+.
29:55All right, so Logan, with Jones going out,
29:59Travis Hunter enters for his first defensive snap.
30:02And it's a key play here, third and goal.
30:04Yeah, and he has to play now.
30:06They're pretty thin at corner.
30:08Travis Hunter is on the field.
30:11And if I know how veteran quarterbacks operate,
30:13they go find a rookie.
30:14Do they target Travis Hunter here?
30:16See him lined up right there.
30:27Joe Burrow sees the pressure top of his screen.
30:30From the four, slant.
30:32Chase, cha-ching!
30:34You're right on it, Logan.
30:35Jamar Chase, gritties.
30:37Touchdown, Bengals.
30:49Too easy pitch and catch here.
30:51Joe Burrow saw the pressure.
30:53And this is hard as a corner.
30:55A slant or a fade.
30:56There's the two routes, Chris.
30:57You got to take the slant away first.
30:59You can't give up your inside.
31:01Campbell not able to do that.
31:03Pitch, catch, cha-ching!
31:05Jamar Chase.
31:07One of the best to do it.
31:09Career catch, 401.
31:12This career touchdown, 47.
31:15And then McPherson's extra point.
31:17Yes, sir.
31:18Tied at seven.
31:19We'll be back in 30 seconds after this from the Home Depot.
31:26Behind every DIY.
31:27It's more help than you think.
31:30Try this for a clean line.
31:33Nice.
31:33Sometimes help.
31:34It's delivered.
31:37And some things have just got to go.
31:39Don't worry.
31:40These will go up quick.
31:43I wonder if I can link two ropes together.
31:47Perfect.
31:48Because do-it-yourself doesn't have to mean all by yourself.
31:52What are you working on?
31:53Jamar Chase gets the touchdown to tie it up, but it all started with the INT, or the pressure
32:04from Hendrickson.
32:05Hendrickson forces the Aaron pass to Dax Hill.
32:08That's great teamwork defensively.
32:10Then you get the ball to your quarterback, who hooks up with his best friend, Jamar Chase, on the slant route, versus the pressure.
32:16That's the complimentary football that the Bengals want to play this year.
32:19The defense setting up the offense more.
32:21The Bengals were one of two teams in week one that had multiple interceptions.
32:27The other was Jacksonville.
32:2911 plays, 80 yards, and Jamar Chase, hey, a slow start to the season in week one.
32:36And you had a feeling it wouldn't take long for him to find the end zone in week two.
32:43Late first quarter, McPherson's kick.
32:46This is Maceal Tootin.
32:48The speedy running back.
32:50Upended at the 25.
32:54Oren Burks racing down the field on special teams.
32:58So with three seconds left in the first, here's Trevor Lawrence.
33:02Let's go back to that kick return.
33:03If he takes a knee in that end zone, you get the ball on the 35-yard line.
33:07That's a mistake by the rookie of taking it out there.
33:10Trevor Lawrence and his offense have looked good, but he's got to take care of the football.
33:14The only thing that stopped them so far was that turnover.
33:20Touchdown has re-energized.
33:22A crowd that did not need much to get hyped.
33:29Hunter, who was in on that last play on defense, in motion and makes his first catch.
33:33Screen through the middle and the final play of the first quarter gets up to the 31-yard line.
33:40Geno Stone ran him down.
33:43Boy, did these teams go up and down the field in the first quarter.
33:46We thought we'd get points.
33:48So far has lived up to the billing here in Cincy at the end of one.
33:52Live, CBS Tonight, and streaming on Paramount+.
33:55Welcome back to Pacor Stadium here in Cincinnati.
34:03Open in orange.
34:05You can see the crowd has followed directions.
34:08First quarter stats.
34:10133 yards for Jacksonville in that first quarter.
34:14But the big play was the red zone interception.
34:17Dax Hill picked off Lawrence.
34:29Trying to communicate through this loud crowd.
34:31Second down, Hunter.
34:33Second straight reception.
34:35And he has enough for the first down.
34:37Tag team down at the 38.
34:39Dax Hill and Logan Wilson combined.
34:41And Chris, you talked about, you've seen all that canning at the line of scrimmage.
34:46Trevor Lawrence changing plays to get the right play versus the defense.
34:49And that's what Liam Cohen has really changed.
34:52They don't want to run any bad plays.
34:53So they have a test or a tell what the defense is in.
34:56He will can, meaning trash can the last play, and check into the right play.
35:00And one of the things Liam Cohen mentioned to us,
35:02it's the first time in the NFL career that Trevor Lawrence calling plays without the wristband.
35:09And that's been an adjustment.
35:10The Ami Brown.
35:11That's the play they used on fourth down right around this part of the field last week
35:16against Carolina that picked up the first.
35:18And back to the wristband, Trevor Lawrence is used to calling plays off of that.
35:22So he just says, oh, play number five, and reads it one time.
35:24But now he has to remember the whole play call that's being told.
35:28And plays are a lot longer than the spider-wide two banana days.
35:31There's about 30 more words after that.
35:33But he says that's really made him study harder and understand each play that much better.
35:38Has more agency now.
35:42We were able to call the plays instead of just look at the wristband, play number five.
35:47Second down.
35:49A plunge up the middle for Etienne.
35:51He has enough for the first.
35:53From Rory Lawrence, let's go to Tiff.
35:54Guys, back to that wristband.
35:56What did Lawrence tell us?
35:57He said it's a lot more work Monday through Saturday, but it's helped him prepare more for games.
36:02He said it's also given him more of an ownership on what we're doing just on another level.
36:06He did it all throughout camp and actually said it helps him to visualize the plays even better.
36:11So that's clearly going to be a threat for another team.
36:14And Logan, what does that say about a franchise quarterback willing to try something new with a new head coach?
36:18He's all bought in and Liam Cohen's there.
36:20They all are, and that's the sense I got from talking to them.
36:24Play action from midfield.
36:27Lawrence to the flat.
36:28A bobble and a catch.
36:29Hunter again.
36:30Steps out of bounds.
36:32Near the sticks.
36:33It's time for Shine.
36:34Let's go to New York for an update.
36:36Chris, this is not a drill.
36:38The Miami Dolphins are on the board.
36:41To Otonga Vailoa.
36:43To Jalen Waddle.
36:44That was pretty.
36:4612-7.
36:47New England.
36:48Chris, back to you.
36:50Indeed.
36:51So you see, the Dolphins, they've won eight of their last nine against the Patriots.
36:55You said when you were a member of New England, Miami was a tough one.
36:58Yeah, we don't chalk it up to an hour, but we never won in Miami.
37:01I don't know why.
37:04Logan Ryan, Chris Lewis, Tiffany Blackman on the sideline.
37:07Second down and one.
37:09With Mutt in motion, they run that way with Etienne.
37:13Had a monster week one, and Etienne still going inside the 15.
37:19Bumped out of bounds by Jordan Battle.
37:23143 yards on the ground for Etienne in week one.
37:26His biggest play so far in week two.
37:29And, Chris, when you play defense in the league,
37:31every week the meeting starts with stop the run.
37:33You know Etienne had 143 yards,
37:35but no bangle defenders out there to set an edge.
37:38And that was an easy, huge game for the Jags right there.
37:45Moving the football close to 200 yards already.
37:51Now Golden trying to get another red zone stop.
37:55Tootin creeps inside the 10-yard line, marked down at the 8th.
38:01Remember, last time the Jags were in the red zone,
38:04when Dax Hill intercepted Trevor Lawrence.
38:07That's been the only error by the Jags offense.
38:09They've been marching it down the field.
38:11But Trey Henderson stepped up with the pressure.
38:14And that's why I believe in paying the star players.
38:16Trey Henderson earned himself that raise he waited for this offseason.
38:21It paid off.
38:22He's going to need to do that again on this one.
38:24The camp hold in already paying dividends.
38:26They can get to the 1-yard line to pick up the 1st down.
38:362nd down and 7.
38:37Check down.
38:38What a move by Trey...
38:39Oh, my!
38:41Scoots into the end zone with a dazzling move.
38:45What a way to score your first career touchdown!
38:54They said with the Bigsby trade, we'll see more Tootin.
38:57And now I know why.
39:00Trevor Lawrence just swings it to his back there.
39:02And he hit that stanky leg.
39:04And that explosion to the end zone.
39:07They said the young kid got some stuff.
39:09He showed it in the preseason.
39:11He showed it here in Week 2.
39:12Oh, my goodness.
39:16Leaving the defense in the dust.
39:19Low snap from Ross Madison.
39:22But the extra point is through.
39:25Basial Tootin at 25 touchdowns his last two years at Virginia Tech.
39:29I don't know how many were as smooth as this.
39:33Zipping to the end zone.
39:34Lawrence likes it.
39:36Jags on top.
39:368-0.
39:42Sunday, October 12th.
39:45Kickoff CBS Premier Week with Kathy Bates in her Emmy-nominated role as Matlock.
39:51The new season begins Sunday, October 12th on CBS.
39:55Look at the Ohio River and a look at Basial Tootin, rookie.
40:00Virginia Tech selected in the fourth round.
40:03You talked about his speed earlier on.
40:05Ran the fastest combine performance with his 4-3-2.
40:10But he put his foot in the ground and accelerated for that score.
40:13Little kicks off.
40:18And P. Ryan takes this from the end zone.
40:21Dances past the 25 and gets upended.
40:25The shy of the 35.
40:26And you take it from the end zone, you got to get to around that area to make it pay off.
40:31Joe Burrow.
40:32His start.
40:33He's an ER surgeon, man.
40:35His pulse is low.
40:36He's calm, cool, and operating.
40:38You play soft zones, you got no shot.
40:41You blitz and bring pressure, that's even worse because of Jamar Chase.
40:44Joe Burrow, he can't play defense for him.
40:47When he is on offense, he's matching everything on the other side.
40:53Burrow to Chase.
40:54Their first touchdown connection of 20-25 on their last drive.
40:58Looks far side.
41:00Retreats back near side.
41:01That pass batted.
41:03Looking for Chase Brown.
41:04There is a penalty marker down.
41:09It's in the secondary by midfield.
41:12Prior to the pass, illegal contact, number 12 defense.
41:16Five-yard penalty, automatic first down.
41:18And number 12 is the Heisman Trophy winner, Travis Hunter.
41:23Let's check in with Tiff.
41:24Hey, guys, we saw Jarrion Jones corner for the Jags hit injured earlier in the game.
41:28He's questionable with a back injury, but the helmet's on.
41:30He's on the sideline.
41:31And before this series had started, I did see him talk with Travis Hunter, guys, who's in the game.
41:36Logan, I imagine he probably got some words of advice.
41:39Yeah, and Travis Hunter's about to play a lot more now on defense.
41:42It's not a luxury.
41:42It's a have-to.
41:44Lift up the penalty on the last play.
41:47Brown pushed past the 40.
41:49Trayvon Walker coming in on the stop.
41:53So we saw Hunter have that larger role in offense on the last drive, a couple of catches.
41:57And now this guy has to go on and play that cornerback spot on defense.
42:02The stamina of this guy on a warm day in Cincinnati.
42:05They're saying he's like a greyhound.
42:07He can run all day long.
42:08He does not get tired.
42:09He can run with the best of them.
42:11Generational athlete, we're told.
42:13And that's what we saw in college.
42:14And he's going to need to run on this play.
42:16Joe Burrow's going to find the matchup.
42:19And he has a plethora of receivers he can go into.
42:20From the 42.
42:30Burrow with time.
42:31Jumps and throws.
42:32High pointed by the sideline.
42:35Andre Yosevich knocked out of bounds.
42:37And guess who?
42:38Travis Hunter right involved to make sure that wasn't a catch.
42:43That athleticism on display.
42:45Travis Hunter covers ground with the best of them.
42:48And he has ball skills.
42:49Look at him fight all the way to the ground.
42:52With Yosivas there.
42:53And that ball hits the ground there.
42:54Way too finished to play for Travis Hunter.
42:58So many skeptical that he can play these many snaps week after week.
43:04Both sides of the ball.
43:06Giving you a little show here in the seconds.
43:11We're good.
43:12We're good.
43:14Play clock winding down.
43:16And Cincinnati calls timeout.
43:19First charge timeout.
43:21Cincinnati.
43:2230-second timeout.
43:24We're going for a third down coming up.
43:27The NFL life.
43:28Travis Hunter.
43:29Well, you start to go back to his time in Colorado.
43:32Of course, the Heisman Trophy winner.
43:34Six receptions.
43:36Played 39 offensive snaps last week.
43:38Six defensive.
43:39Second game since 2016 with a player 30-plus offensive snaps and over five defensive snaps.
43:46And we're going to be tracking throughout this game how many he's playing on each side.
43:51But it's also fun to just watch him on the sideline when he's not in.
43:55It's not a guy who can sit on the sidelines on the bench and take a break.
43:58He has to be involved at all times.
44:00Oh, he doesn't sit down at all.
44:01He's up for both teams.
44:02So that is just so hard to do as a player, taking no seat the entire game.
44:09He's on the field here for his snap number 20.
44:13This is a third and seven.
44:15Burrow.
44:16Time.
44:17Throws.
44:18Strong hands on the outside.
44:21T. Higgins moved the chains.
44:23He had Tyson Campbell all over him.
44:26But it didn't matter.
44:27Gain of eight.
44:29It doesn't get tougher than this.
44:30Great coverage by Tyson Campbell.
44:32Nothing you can do.
44:34Great ball.
44:35Great receiver.
44:36Beats the great coverage all day long.
44:38Look at that.
44:39You're raking through.
44:40And T. Higgins is able to collapse that ball all the way to the ground.
44:44Joe Burrow takes a little hit there.
44:46Ted Karras' lineman protecting him.
44:51Nice grab by Higgins.
44:53Teammate of Trevor Lawrence.
44:54Zach Clemson.
44:56From midfield.
44:59Burrow.
44:59Scream blown up.
45:01And then a flag.
45:02At the Cincy lineman down the field.
45:08Before Burrow let loose of the pass.
45:15Holding.
45:15Number 89 offense.
45:1710-yard penalty.
45:18Free play first down.
45:20From 30 he was in the area of the pass.
45:21There is no intentional grounding.
45:23Drew Sample.
45:26Drew Sample right here.
45:28They get him from the hold.
45:28You see his right hand.
45:29You got to let that go.
45:31He hooks him and never lets it go.
45:32That's a clear holding call right there in front of the official.
45:35The seventh year from Washington.
45:39Sample of the longest tenured member of the Bengals.
45:50First down 20 to go.
45:51Josh Hines Allen with the pressure.
45:53Let's loose of it low and incomplete.
45:57Brown the target by the 40.
46:00Ventrell Miller was in the area.
46:02After studying the Bengals offense.
46:04It's all about the offensive line.
46:06You have to give Joe Burrow time.
46:08You see Josh Hines Allen wins right away around the edge on Orlando Brown.
46:11If he does not have time to set his feet a la Tom Brady, he cannot get the ball out.
46:17The offensive line play is going to be critical for the Bengals' success this year.
46:21On the flip side, what a starting point for Anthony Campanelli in his first year as the defensive coordinator
46:25to have two pass rushers like Walker and Hines Allen.
46:33On second, again pressure on Burrow.
46:36Dancers are out but brought down.
46:38Eric Armstead, a former teammate of Logan Ryan, rubs the belly.
46:45He's eating.
46:46Eric Armstead rubs his belly when he's hungry.
46:49The Walter Plante Man of the Year.
46:52They're just whipping butt up front.
46:53Simple bull rush.
46:55Everyone's at the quarterback.
46:57Speaking to Josh Hines Allen.
46:58He said it's a race to the quarterback.
47:00They love their pass rush, and that is not a good sign if you're a Bengals fan.
47:04Oh, no.
47:04Yeah, Joe Burrow still down.
47:06Looking at his ankle.
47:17For a guy who's battled injuries heading into seasons, which is why he was confident this year,
47:23just had the camp, was able to get some experience in the preseason.
47:27I hope he's okay.
47:29Let's see Joe here.
47:31His pocket collapsing on him.
47:32He's trying to escape.
47:33Nowhere to go.
47:35And Armstead kind of just jumps on that ankle there by Joe.
47:42And you see it kind of rolls over there.
47:44Everyone's hoping Joe Burrow can return to this game.
47:47The NFL on CBS is sponsored by Modelo, the mark of a fighter.
48:02FanDuel, play your game.
48:05And by Burger King at BK.
48:10Have it your way.
48:11You rule.
48:12Moments ago, Joe Burrow, able to walk without much assistance to the sideline and head into
48:23the medical tent, was sacked.
48:25And we're looking at his ankle.
48:29So, while he's in the tent, Jake Browning, who started the final seven games of 2023,
48:34including one of those against the Jaguars.
48:37On third and long, hands to Brown, who maneuvers outside and chased by Oluwikin.
48:43So, fourth down coming up.
48:45But right now, the attention for Bengals fans is on Burrow.
48:50Well, that Burrow play was the worst play of the day.
48:54For not only Bengals fans, football fans.
48:55We know how much, how important he is to the Bengals and the face of the league.
49:01And you see these fans here are not happy.
49:04They did not get here 10 minutes early and wear orange.
49:06Did not see Joe Burrow out there today.
49:07That's the defensive possession of the game for the Jaguars, as Rico does get this punt off.
49:17Parker Washington returns from the 10.
49:19Doesn't go far.
49:22Brought down immediately by Taj Brooks.
49:27We'll be back in 30 seconds after this from Progressive Insurance.
49:33Okay, Nate, it's just one smile, okay?
49:36One smile, and then we can go home, okay?
49:38Nope, that's too much teeth.
49:39Nate, come on.
49:40You gotta look at the camera, honey.
49:41Nate, listen to your mother.
49:42Buddy, look up, okay?
49:44Nope, not, that's too far up.
49:46This isn't working.
49:48Uh, DeVito, you're in.
49:50Tommy DeVito, back up Nate.
49:52If only there were backups in real life.
49:54Hey, guys, follow me on this one.
49:56But at least there's Progressive to protect your home and auto.
49:59See?
50:00Now that's a smile.
50:01Okay, now everybody look at DeVito on this one.
50:0350-yard punt, 4-yard return.
50:08Jack Roar's takeover.
50:10But moments ago, Burrow left the game, went into the medical tent.
50:13And as a player on the field, you look at one of your leaders having to leave like that,
50:19imagine that means that you guys have to bring the energy on the other side defensively.
50:23That's exactly what Cincy's trying to do here on this possession with a penalty marker in.
50:28Pass intended for Travis Hunter is incomplete.
50:39Illegal shift.
50:40Offense.
50:41The penalty has declined.
50:43It's second out.
50:43So the Bengals got the strong defensive performance in their opening game against Cleveland.
50:50Unit could use a stop here.
50:52Well, to your point, when a big player goes down, this is football.
50:56You're trained next man up.
50:57You can't replace Jogoro, but you can play a little better on your side.
51:01And the Bengals defense going to have to rally here for their quarterback.
51:03Second and ten for the third team.
51:13Etienne up the middle.
51:15Picks up about four.
51:17T.J. Slayton, the defensive tackle for the Bengals on the stop, bringing up third down.
51:24A three and out is exactly what this building needs right now.
51:28It's what the Bengals need.
51:30The crowd's on their feet.
51:31They're getting loud.
51:32They're back into it.
51:33They know they got a fight here, so they figure out what's going on with Joe.
51:38I would love to see some pressure from the Bengals defense.
