TV6'S Elizabeth Williams questioned Health Secretary Dr Faith Brebnor on the matter. More in this report.
Transcript
00:00The family is claiming he waited for 10 hours for a CT scan. Tell us about that.
00:05So I am not at liberty to speak about any specific case, but know that now that we have the CT scan in the Scarborough General Hospital,
00:14we hope to not have a repeat of whatever may have happened at that point.
00:18I would also like to say that I have asked that the Tobago Regional Health Authority to do an investigation into what has actually happened.
00:26Mr. Figaro died one day after he fell from a ladder while working at a private villa in Bonacord, Tobago on July 1st.
00:35Dr. Brebner said the report on Mr. Figaro being compiled at this time would not be made public.
00:42I'm sure you would appreciate the fact that that report and coming out of that will not be a public document
00:49because of the patient sensitivity and the patient and the family and patient confidentiality and so forth.
00:54But I am really, really glad that we are now in a space where we actually have a CT scanner,
00:59a functioning CT scanner in the Scarborough General Hospital so that we can provide the best care for the people of Tobago.
01:06Dr. Brebner spoke with the media as the TRHA unveiled a CT scan at the Scarborough General Hospital,
01:13the newest piece of equipment purchased by the TRHA, costing over $6 million.
01:18So there are now two machines in Tobago.
01:22The other CT scanner is located at the Roxborough Hospital.
01:26Dr. Brebner said they are considering charging a fee for providing a CT scan.
01:32And I know this is something that the board of directors has been working through,
01:35ensuring that we use this to full capacity, including providing services for our patients
01:42that we normally do free of charge.
01:44But the possibility of fee for service now becomes a real thing that we can do
01:49to ensure that when there are individuals who need to purchase the service,
01:54that we actually have a CT scan that can do that.
01:56Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
