00:06of Health.
00:07Sadly, it's that of a young pharmacist attached to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex
00:12in Mount Hope.
00:13Relatives of 35-year-old Rakesh Nandlal says he was at a hospital where he was diagnosed
00:19with dengue, then discharged.
00:22He spent time at his pre-sale home where it was hoped he would recover.
00:26Some time after, Nandlal started hemorrhaging from his nose and vomiting.
00:31The pharmacist was readmitted to hospital where he died around 4pm on Thursday.
00:37Saddened by his sudden death, those nearby are asking why corporations are not embarking
00:42on a more extensive eradication exercise.
00:46On the 24th of July, the Health Ministry reported 450 cases of dengue and five deaths.
00:53Today, the Ministry reports 635 laboratory-confirmed cases and still five laboratory-confirmed deaths.
01:02Of those major cases, the majority, or 86%, are coming from the counties of Victoria,
01:07St. Patrick and Kareny.
01:09Additionally, Minister of Health Terence Yeltsin has alerted the population that the age group
01:15of 6 to 20 years old is accounting for 78% of the cases.
01:21As it relates to eradication exercises, health officials are advocating for source reduction,
01:27that is, cleaning the breeding grounds in and around the home.
01:31As it relates to unkempt premises, public health inspectors have served 166 homeowners
01:38with notices to clean up their act, but as of July 28th, none have been fined.
01:45Officials also note some homeowners are getting hostile and being uncooperative with health
01:50inspectors.
01:51Here are some useful tips to help eradicate the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
01:57Dispose of all unwanted articles, derelict vehicles or appliances in the yard or environs
02:03which can collect water and become mosquito breeding grounds.
02:07Cover water containers such as tanks, barrels, drums or buckets with a mosquito-proof covering.
02:13Cut down and remove all bush or undergrowth that can harbor mosquitoes.
02:19Add drains and guttering to allow for the free flow of water.
02:23Use mosquito nets and insect repellents, when appropriate, as a means of personal protection.
02:29As it relates to spraying, health authorities are urging corporations against over-spraying
02:34and instead they advocate spraying when cases are detected to kill the adult mosquitoes.
02:42The ministry says spraying will not kill the eggs, pupa or larva.
02:46Meanwhile, UNC counselors and UNC-controlled areas are saying that by that time, multiple
02:52other individuals could be infected.
